IndyCar's return to Iowa this past weekend brought plenty of surprises as Speed Street host Conor Daly was called last minute to fill-in for Jack Harvey at Dale Coyne Racing. He joins co-host Chase Holden to detail how he got the call Friday night and boarded Roger Penske's plane Saturday morning to be on stand-by as the situation developed by the minute. While the IndyCar rulebook kept him out of the driver's seat for race one, due to his lack of seat time during the event weekend, he was granted a special session Sunday morning to help him prepare for race two. He and Chase recap both races and break down how the recent track repave and additional weight from the new hybrid system led to an overall lack of racing action.Race winners Scott McLaughlin and Will Power both joined the show this week to discuss how Team Penske utilized fuel strategy and quick pit stops to sweep the weekend. Scott laid down a lap fast enough to break the track record and captured the pole for the second race, but found his way to the front during race one to capture his first ever IndyCar oval victory. He explains that it was apparent early on in the race that the second lane would be ineffective, and he credits his pit crew with helping him overtake Colton Herta. Will Power started farther back in race two and immediately went into fuel saving mode to help chop his way through the field. Another quick Penske pit stop helped him get by Alex Palou and he held on for his second win of the 2024 season.

Jack Harvey has won nearly a dozen championships in his career including the prestigious British F3 championship in 2012. He finished runner-up in the Indy Lights championship in both 2014 and 2015. He's one of only six drivers to have won on both the Indianapolis road course and the oval where he took those wins in Indy Lights. Moving from the Meyer Shank NTT IndyCar Series team to Rahal Letterman Lanigan has proven to be quite challenging for both him and the team. We caught up with Harvey as he was taking some photos of his girlfriend Gracie Norton just off of the red carpet at the 100 Days To Indy Premiere just prior to the 2023 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. He talks about the mental aspect of staying positive and how he wants to continue to motivate the team, work hard, and be competitive for the rest of the season. Candid and stoic, you can tell that Harvey is extremely motivated to return to qualifying well and finishing on the podium. Enjoy! NOTE: At Indianapolis, major drama unfolded as he bumped his teammate Graham Rahal out of the race with time expiring on the clock to qualify 33rd. After the August 12, 2023 road course race at Indy, Harvey was released from RLL with three races left to run in the season. Part of the team statement from Bobby Rahal reads: “First, I would like to thank Jack Harvey for all of his efforts on behalf of RLL for the last year and a half. He committed fully to the team, but for whatever reason, we weren't able to achieve the results that he or the team deserves, and we wish him well in the future.” Where will he end up? Only time will tell. We wish him the best. By Larry Mason Copyright © 2023 Larry Mason

So the latest chapter of the Palou dispute has now had the Champion-Elect Spaniard tell Zak Brown he's backing out of his agreement to join McLaren in 2024 despite having an agreement in place. It's caused yet more tension as Zak's kicked up a stink and ran to Jenna Fryer, Chip Ganassi has commented on the story for the first time ever and rips into McLaren, and even Palou's old management has severed ties with Palou as a fall out of the drama. What the fuck is going on here and what the heck happens next?! We also talk about the Gallagher GP of last weekend and Scott Dixon shocked the world to pull off the Spin-And-Win from the back of the field and the opening lap of the race to win by getting back on sequence via a 2-stopper in a race of 3's. And he had to stop a dominant, 36-lap leading Graham Rahal to do it, after his first pole position in six years. Things kick things off with a celebratory lap as "The Money Lap" hits a century mark in reviews on Apple. In light of this milestone, there's playful banter about Parker finally needing to set up his Cameo. Switching gears, Parker shares his track exploits, highlighting a commendable rally at Indy, securing a 7th place finish. The excitement is palpable as they delve into the buzz around motorsports possibly making a grand entry into the 2028 Olympics, and the recent happenings in NASCAR, especially focusing on McDowell's sensational win at Indy. But that's not all! Our hosts steer the conversation towards the age-old debate: is a trip to the Indy Oval superior to the Indianapolis Road Course? Trackhouse's Team Owner chimes in, leaving fans musing about the real worth of Charters. The duo doesn't miss a beat as they dissect IndyCar's eventful weekend, highlighting Dixon's win and the unexpected news of the switch-up with Conor Daly stepping in for Jack Harvey next week. Landon, ever the passionate early bird, shares his take on the seemingly late start times in Dirt Racing. And if you thought the track action was heating up, the off-track drama doesn't disappoint. From Chip Ganassi's exasperation with McLaren to Chipotle's F1 aspirations and Helmut Marko's antics that seem to irk Landon, this episode is packed with high octane insights and laughs! Graham Rahal has been winning races since his very first race in the NTT IndyCar Series back when he was only 19 years old. That was a long time ago and his winning ways have been on hiatus for a while too. A super talented guy like that doesn't forget how to drive fast and win. This series is super competitive and everything has to be perfect (or you have to be super lucky) to get on the podium these days. We had the opportunity to talk with Rahal at the 2023 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach about the challenges of going through the non-winning times and how he deals with it while also working to motivate those around him. He also talks about how he works with his teammates on set-up and balance of the race car. Being a family man (married to drag racer Courtney Force), Rahal also talks about balancing his life outside of racing. Enjoy! NOTE: Graham Rahal finished 12th at Long Beach after qualifying 24th. The real drama came on bump day at Indianapolis where his teammate Jack Harvey bumped him out of the race! The next day, Stephan Wilson crashed and broke his back at the Speedway and Rahal was tapped to fill in for the “500.” Although he started last in 33rd, he finished 22nd. On a more positive note, Rahal qualified on the front row for the race at Mid-Ohio on July 2nd. Unfortunately, a stuck wheel during a pit stop slowed his momentum yet he still finished in the top ten (7th). By Larry Mason Copyright © 2023 Larry Mason

The Month of May is here, and it's time to get through the half way point of IndyCar's biggest month of the year. In this episode, Dre Harrison and RJ O'Connell break down both the GMR Grand Prix on the Indy Road Course, and Qualifying for this weekend's 107th Running of the Indianapolis 500. And so far, Alex Palou is one step away from doing what Simon Pagenaud did in 2019 and sweeping the entire month! He dominated the GMR Grand Prix and then broke Scott Dixon's new record of the fastest pole run in Indy 500 history, with the entire front row cracking 234mph. Is Palou the greatest #10 car driver since Dario Franchitti? And should he really be considering a McLaren switch if the 2024 rumours are true? And we swing the pendulum on a rollercoaster month for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Christian Lundgaard had another incredible race at the road course finishing 4th, only to nearly get bumped in a disastrous qualifying session for the 500 where all of their cars were stuck in 30th or lower, and only Katherine Legge making the show automatically. Jack Harvey bumping out his own teammate, another Bump Day shock for the ages... or so we thought at the time... ...All that and some of the incredible stories that made up the grid, like RC Enerson, Callum Illot, Agustin Canapino and more mentioned in a Month of May Indianapolis special!

Alex Palou, the fastest ever Indianapolis 500 pole-winner, is our star guest for this episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast. The first Spaniard to win an Indy 500 pole is in good form, discussing why securing pole led to such an emotional celebration, how his analytical nature helped him capture P1, and his motivation and desire to score more poles, this being his first on an oval. The 2021 IndyCar champion also looks at how his team-mates - especially Scott Dixon - helped him to win the pole, and how the changing conditions meant he thought his chance for pole on Sunday had slipped away before turning it around for the final showdown. Co-hosts Jack Benyon and JR Hildebrand also break down the bump day drama, where Graham Rahal was expelled from the event by RLL team-mate Jack Harvey, who we also hear from. And finally, Juncos Hollinger's Callum Ilott stops by to explain his remarkable qualifying journey, which saw him dramatically switch to a backup car that he had just 12 laps in before delivering a run that got him in the field.
