*Viewer Discretion advised.  Mature Audiences only. Vulgarity, Profanity, and Sexual Themes in this episode* In this episode, we discuss the shocking story of OnlyFans Creator Lilly Phillips.  Lily Phillips, a 23-year-old OnlyFans creator, shocked the internet by sleeping with 100 men in 24 hours—a stunt captured in a safe-for-work documentary by Josh Pieters. The film shows everything from the chaotic buildup to her tearful aftermath, where she confessed, “I don't know if I'd recommend it.” Despite speculation about regret, she insists her tears were out of exhaustion and frustration over poor logistics, vowing to fix it next year when she aims to attempt 1,000 men in 24 hours. The documentary highlights her complicated outlook—she speaks candidly about moral boundaries, fears of finding love, and the pressures of her controversial industry.  What are our views on this stunning, controversial woman?  Listen now to this podcast!

In 15th and 16th century Scotland, in the highest courts of the land, you'd find esteemed poets hurling insults at each other. This was flyting, a sort of medieval equivalent of battle rap, and it was so popular at the time that the King himself wrote instructions for how to do it well. Writer and Scots language campaigner Ishbel McFarlane and historical linguist Joanna Kopaczyk explain the art of flyting, where an insult becomes slander, what's going on within the speech act of performative diss-trading, and what the legal consequences could be of being accused of witchcraft. Find out more about the episode and read the transcript at theallusionist.org/flyting.  Content note: this episode contains brief references to historical capital and corporal punishments, and discussion of insults and slurs; there is also a derogatory term for sex workers, and category A and B swears. In this episode, I sit down with the brilliant Professor Shailaja Paik, renowned scholar, MacArthur Genius Grant winner, and author of acclaimed books such as Dalit Women's Education in Modern India and The Vulgarity of Caste. We explore the untold stories of Dalit women artists whose contributions to Indian culture were marginalized and labeled “vulgar,” particularly in the world of Tamasha Theater. Through her extensive research, Professor Paik reveals how these women, despite facing caste and gender discrimination, used dance and theater not only as a means of survival but as acts of defiance and creativity. We dive deep into how art, caste, and gender intersect in India, and why the voices of Dalit women have often been ignored or misunderstood. If you like our work then consider supporting: 1. How does the interplay between vulgarity and societal norms reflect and shape the human experience of freedom, creativity, and psychological depth?   Our collective fascination with vulgarity, obscenity, and profanity lies in the thrill of transgression and the need to articulate the unspoken aspects of human experience. As we navigate social acceptability, the vulgar mirrors our deepest shadow and wildest laughter, a space where sacred and profane dance in the liminal light of truth and rebellion. Engaging vulgarity challenges the rigid confines of propriety. Embracing discomfort and delight, it forges connections, releases pent-up emotions, and confronts the complexities of existence. In the laughter that follows the shock, the shared glance of understanding, and the relief of tension, we discover the power of vulgarity to unite us, to reveal our shared vulnerabilities that bind us as a community. By acknowledging and exploring the collective allure of vulgarity, we embrace a deeper understanding of ourselves and each other, where we discover the full spectrum of our humanity with all its messiness, beauty, and transcendent potential. Prepare to discover…when societal norms around vulgarity have shifted, revealing the acceptance and rejection of vulgar expressions as mirrors of cultural transformations; how vulgarity serves as a complex tool for challenging, mocking, and sometimes reinforcing societal norms, acting as both a disruptor and a reflector of cultural attitudes; what roles vulgarity plays in humor, rebellion, and the psychological exploration of shadow; where vulgarity is variably accepted or condemned; whether vulgarity acts merely as a social faux pas or plays a more profound role in challenging taboos and sparking necessary dialogue; which aspects of vulgarity transcend cultural boundaries to be universally recognized; why vulgarity continues to be a potent and dynamic form of human expression, serving not only as a mirror to society's evolving values and limits but also as a catalyst for reflection, dialogue, and change…and so much more. I o tom jsme s profesorem Právnické fakulty Univerzity Karlovy a poradcem prezidenta Petra Pavla mluvili.

One of life's greatest gifts is music. Many feel like, to quote a Beach Boys song, “music is in my soul.” Yet what some call music, others do not. Some music can be vulgar or not used at the right time. Does the Church say anything about music? What if I like a song that I know is bad but it has such a great rhythm? Or what if the music at Mass is just not doing it for me? We delve into these topics and more, including a debate between our moderator and a panelist with strong, differing opinions.  Check out our parent network: thequestatlanta Listen On Spotify Listen on the quest app: Android Apple Follow us on Instagram: @honest2god_ya Watch us on Youtube: @Honest2God Stuff Mentioned: “Sing to the Lord” document by USCCB “Be sure of this, that no immoral or impure or greedy person, that is, an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God” – Ephesians 5:5 Guests Socials: Producer Ben: Website

Prighozhin's calculated outbursts, the incursion into Belgorod, the fall and then encirclement of Bakhmut by Ukraine… everything seems to be happening all at once. What is going on – and could this war be over much sooner than most military experts predict? Here's a quote from the latest video dropped by Prighozhin, and he says a lot in it that Ukrainians could actually concur with: “We came here in vulgarity and trampled all over their territory looking for Nazis. While we were searching for Nazis, we nailed anyone else we could find. We approached Kyiv, and then, as is said in Russian, shat ourselves and retreated. Came upon Kherson, shat ourselves and withdrew… We conducted the Special Military Operation to de-nazify and demilitarise Ukraine, but instead of denazification we turned Ukraine into a country that the whole world knows about.” ---------- SPEAKER: Graeme Robertson is a Professor of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Director of the Centre for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies. But, what does this have to do with Battle Rap ? Glad you asked. Battle Rap is a Sub- Cultural aspect of Hip Hop. Mc Shan said “Hip Hop was set out in the DARK, They use to do it out in the Park “…… You see, Battle Rap is the purest form of Hip Hop , in this technological society especially now with AI we are going to loose certain aspects of our Humanity. And as Krs One once said , “Hip Hop connects us back to our Humanity “ because Hip Hop in its purest form doesn't require any technology it only requires the Human Body and the courage to express yourself. We encourage you to Check out this interview and look through the Vulgarity and Gun Bars that's on the surface and to look a little bit deeper into the Discipline, the Focus, the Toughness, of this beautiful Art of Battling. Shailaja Paik's book The Vulgarity of Caste: Dalits, Sexuality, and Humanity in Modern India (Stanford UP, 2022) is an important reflection on the question of Dalit women and their sexuality question. Through the performance of Tamasha, Paik has relooked into the lifeworld of Dalit women and has argued about what the performance of Tamasha means in Dalit women's everydayness rather than conventionally understanding it through a moral lens of good vs bad. The framework of ‘manuski' and ‘assli' reflects upon the Dalit women quest to transgress ascribed identities and it reinforces Dalit performance as a weapon for the weak. The work is a watershed as it re-centers Dalit woman's experiences in the sex-gender-caste complex, rather than looking at them as passive recipients of male-centered Dalit assertion. Shailaja Paik is an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati. She is Taft's Distinguished Professor of History and Affiliate Faculty in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Asian Studies. The Vulgarity of Caste: Dalits, Sexuality, and Humanity in Modern India (Stanford UP, 2022) offers the first social and intellectual history of Dalit performance of Tamasha—a popular form of public, secular, traveling theater in Maharashtra—and places Dalit Tamasha women who represented the desire and disgust of the patriarchal society at the heart of modernization in twentieth century India. Drawing on ethnographies, films, and untapped archival materials, Shailaja Paik illuminates how Tamasha was produced and shaped through conflicts over caste, gender, sexuality, and culture. Dalit performers, activists, and leaders negotiated the violence and stigma in Tamasha as they struggled to claim manuski (human dignity) and transform themselves from ashlil(vulgar) to assli (authentic) and manus (human beings). Building on and departing from the Ambedkar-centered historiography and movement-focused approach of Dalit studies, Paik examines the ordinary and everydayness in Dalit lives. Ultimately, she demonstrates how the choices that communities make about culture speak to much larger questions about inclusion, inequality, and structures of violence of caste within Indian society, and opens up new approaches for the transformative potential of Dalit politics and the global history of gender, sexuality, and the human. Excuse me for using explicit language here, but it seems to me that today's most vulgar expression of right-wing extremist dogma is its unhealthy obsession with banning books. It's a political perversion that, ironically, its participants usually rationalize by claiming they are “battling vulgarity.” And, boy, are they hot to trot! There's a surge of them these days, because stripping books out of schools and public libraries has become a favorite way for autocratic right-wingers to stimulate their supporters' political passion for engaging in culture wars against their neighbors... and common sense. Until recently, there were only a couple of hundred isolated book challenges a year in our entire country, and local school boards and city councils generally handled them properly – without starting an uncivil war. But now, attempted book bans are erupting everywhere, orchestrated by a few extremist political groups and a flock of opportunistic Republican politicians. PEN, a nonprofit watchdog that monitors these attacks on our freedom of expression, has documented 2,532 copycat campaigns across America in the past year to ban more than 1,600 works from our schools. They've even targeted the Bible! They uniformly assert that they are defending “parental rights” and protecting children from “sensitive materials” that raise topics like slavery and sexual identities. Bovine excrement. First, their naked censorship is just a power play to impose their hang-ups on you and your children. In a recent poll, 71 percent of Americans oppose these partisan efforts to ban library books in the name of “protecting” young people. Second, have these political nannies not heard of the Internet? I can assure them that most of their own children already know about the truths these so-called adults are trying to censor. Nothing is so foolish – or wrong – as trying to put blinders on young people's natural curiosity.
