"Listening is suspending disbelief." (Rick Rubin, The Creative Act)Though I didn't know it then, the back door was like most. The cement was smooth and discolored by the thousands of bags of trash dragged, pushed, and willed outside—a dumpster to the right and a pile of cigarette butts to the left. After swinging and slamming for over a decade, the metal door sounded like most metal doors. It was brown and heavy, at least for this prepubescent fellow. It creaked as I struggled to pull it open. I moved through the dark and musty storeroom with shelves that were twenty feet high. Thinking back, that couldn't have been true because there were no ladders, but everything seems bigger when you're young. Things, people, and possibilities. That day, I had a small section of tables. No doubt some law was being violated given my age, but it was the Caribbean, and this was a family business. The kitchen clanged, banged, and slid as eggs, toast, and hash browns made their way to the dining room. Perpetually hungry and encouraged by the French toast unceremoniously dropped on the stainless steel counter, I grabbed a piece of bacon and headed to my first table. Still chewing and partially coughing as I worked to swallow, I arrived to find a mother, father, and young son. He was probably 12. I don't know what the parents ordered, but I know what he ordered. “Coffee, please.” At 12. Coffee?! I wrote it on my little pad and weaved back to the kitchen in disbelief. My age, drinking coffee? When I asked one of the old timers how and why a 12-year-old kid would be drinking coffee, they said, “They do that.”I remember the use of the word “They.” Vividly. A distinct separation between us and them. I want to believe she was grabbing any old pronoun during a busy breakfast rush, but this burned into my conciseness. So much so that I'm sharing it with you thirty years later. That family was different than “us” in some way because of what they drank. Where is that little boy now? Does he have kids? Do they drink coffee? I have a child the same age as that coffee-ordering kid in the booth that morning, and if he wants coffee…sure. It's interesting how one word can make all the difference. I wonder if that wise old waiter had used the word “We” if I'd have remembered any of this? Are we really that different? When we take the time to go below the surface, I doubt it. Sublties, yes. But we all have strengths and struggles, hopes and horrors, and dreams and doubts. WE are just people, peopling. WE have much to learn from each other if we take the time. "To see each other clearly, you need to take turns sharing your perspective. When one is sharing their perspective, the other needs to do their best to listen selflessly." (Yung Pueblo, Lighter)Take care,

That's a big problem because magnesium is involved in more than 600 biochemical reactions in your body. Now here's what most people DON'T know: taking just any magnesium supplement won't solve your problem because most supplements use the cheapest kinds that your body can't use or absorb. That's why I exclusively recommend Magnesium Breakthrough. It's the only full-spectrum magnesium supplement with seven unique forms of magnesium that your body can actually use and absorb. When you get all seven critical forms of magnesium, pretty much every function in your body gets upgraded. From your brain to your sleep, pain, inflammation and less stress. Join Kathryn and Grace as they break down S1E16: "Star-Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers!" (Content warning: this episode of the podcast contains a discussion of verbally abusive relationships. If you want to listen to the rest of the episode but skip that part, stop at 1:02:00.) We talk about one of our favorite minor characters (hello, Chase!), why we're huge fans of Rachel, and why we would love to get the chance to attend Miss Patty's Story Hour. We also discuss everything that goes down the night of Stars Hollow's Firelight Festival, whether that's Lorelai and Richard reconciling, Rachel and Luke's define-the-relationship moment, or one of our least favorite scenes in Gilmore Girls history. Plus: more David Lynch/Gilmore Girls parallels, some all-time fashion highs and lows, and Grace's truly awful Richard impression!

In episode 19 of the Primal Pioneer, I discuss mindful coffee consumption with Andrea Obregón, one of the most amazing coffee experts I have met in my life. Some topics we touch on include: Andrea's personal journey to becoming a coffee connoisseur and the cultural value of coffee in some countries. How coffee has a mind of its own and how it affects the labor intensive and difficult process of coffee production. The process of coffee production and the problems that come with it. What constitutes a good coffee? Diving into Andrea's coffee preference and the best coffee machine to use. Coffee offers more than just a caffeine-fix and delicious drink. If we learn the ins-and-outs of coffee processing and how to ask the right questions, we'll be able to start our journey towards mindful coffee consumption and improve our health. I'm certain that after you tune in to episode 19, you'll be more elucidated on how coffee affects your daily life and overall health, and you'll be empowered to take action on knowing more about the coffee you consume. Be sure to tune in to episode 19 to learn more on how coffee can transform your health and take your drinking experience to the next level. If you're a parent you are familiar with asking your kids to do the chores or complete their homework only to have them respond I'll do it later. This often frustrating response is due to a child's need for instant gratification to continue what fun chosen activity they are doing. On this week's show, Mark and fellow MindsetGo trainer Joseph Lyman discuss why leaders and managers struggle with delayed gratification and how much that struggle adversely plays a factor in motivating, developing, and supporting the teams they guide. The mere connotation of the word instant feels wonderful for impatient people while delayed feels long or arduous, not to mention encourages procrastination in the world of busyness, bottom line, and strict deadlines. Segment 1: Too often, we find ourselves expecting instant gratification largely due to the ease of access allowed to us through technology, which inadvertently makes assessing ourselves through delayed gratification more difficult. How can we properly self reflect on our abilities to determine our effectiveness as salespeople? Segment 2: In a number of cases, the needs of our team tend to come second to personal victories and instant gratification, which often eliminates opportunities for learning and development. What makes self-control and time management so difficult and how can we overcome that? Segment 3: Setting goals for ourselves and our team brings up questions around trust in our ability to sustain success over the long term. How can we set goals for our team that push for long term success? What strategies can we use to motivate and develop our team moving forward? Segment 4: Networking events provide opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefits for salespeople, but our mindset going into these events may not complement our approach towards seeking potential relationships. How can we take advantage of networking events without the mindset of instant gratification to create more opportunities for referrals and sales?

R and R Property Podcast With The Real Estate Girl Denise Haynes
More Money in Your Pocket - Selling Tips for a Quick & Well Priced Sale Presentation! Presentation! Presentation! I cannot express to you enough how important this is to a sale & a great price. Good presentation is not only easy on the eye but it also leaves the prospective buyer feeling as though there isn’t too much to do. If a property is poorly presented with daggy dated furniture, needs painting and even minor repairs your prospective purchaser may be left thinking the property needs updating & a fortune spent on it. A well-presented home is also a good blank canvas, usually allowing your buyer to feel uncluttered and unstressed enough to visualise their furniture in this home. The proof is in the results - why do you think Selling Houses Australia is so successful! Lawns and Gardens Please have these tidy! The lawn needs to be kept constantly mowed, any potholes/bare patches need to be filled and grassed over. Water if necessary. Gardens should be weeded and preferably no fuss. High maintenance gardens can definitely be a purchaser turn-off. But again, presentation is important as your lawns and gardens provide the framework for your homes street appeal. Doggy No.2’s need to be cleaned up and preferably your pets restrained or even better visiting elsewhere for an inspection. Get Cracking & Start Packing! Clutter can be a major killer for your homes sale so why not take the opportunity upon listing your property to cull anything you haven’t used for a long time or start packing away decorations and furniture that you don’t use on a regular basis. Have a garage sale and make some money! Self-storage is always a good option or if not appropriate store it in a shed. A clear and uncluttered home is always a pleasure to show, clients can walk clearly through the property and it gives off a more light and spacious feel making the home seem even larger. Go & Have a Coffee Please vacate the property for the sales inspection. We sometimes have vendors who insist upon staying in the home for the viewing, quite often interrupting, trying to do our job for us whilst we are showing the clients through. Although we realise that the vendor is only trying to help it is actually at a huge disadvantage to themselves. The prospective purchaser will usually feel uncomfortable; not inspecting as thoroughly, not openly asking questions or commenting as freely as what they would if you’re not there. This can be detrimental because if we are unaware of any objections we cannot try to overcome them. So go and have a coffee up the street if you have nowhere else you need to be. Listen to your Agent If your property is reportedly receiving lots of views online but no inspections are being booked your agent will possibly be contacting you to advise that the problem could be price. Although we always like to test the market, we also have to listen to it loud and clear. An agent can usually tell within the first 3 – 4 weeks if the property’s price has missed the mark. At this point you need to listen to your agent’s advice and re-consider listed price. Overall everybody involved dreams of an easy and speedy sale and if vendors are prepared to work hand in hand with their chosen agent by doing the prep work to present as best as possible then the odds are that it will flow onto a clean and quick sale – Happy Days! My guest on the show today is one of the original gangstas of the digital music business: Larry Miller. Half a decade before Apple launched iTunes, Larry was carving a path. In 1998, he co-founded a2b music, one of the first digital music distribution companies. He went on to become President of Reciprocal Music, another groundbreaking digitial distribution & technology company, and later co-founded the Or Music label, which won a Grammy with their artist Los Lonely Boys. These days, Larry is the Director of the NYU Steinhardt Music Business Program, where he’s shaping the intellect of young people who will write the next chapter in the history of the music business. There’s a very wise saying: History is written by the victors. Here’s the accepted history of the digital music business: The major labels were clueless about the internet and were doing nothing until Napster appeared and killed the music business. Luckily, Steve Jobs and Apple saved the day by inventing digital downloads and selling them in iTunes. True veterans of the early digital music business know that things were a bit more complex than that. It was an exciting time and things evolved very quickly, too fast to keep up with. The truth is that starting in the mid-90’s, many technology pioneers were working closely with the major labels to shape the digital future of the music business. It was an incredible time of experimentation and learning. Of course the ideas weren’t all viable, so the labels cautiously dabbled, thinking they’d control the timetable of how these new technologies would roll out. After all, that’s how it always worked whenever a new format came along. Of course this time they were wrong. Napster came along and burned all the cautious optimism to the ground. Steve Jobs had great timing, arriving when the majors were fatigued from fighting and desperate for an easy fix to complex problems. So a new history was written, and the story of what came before was brushed away like ashes.
