Margins aren't the most important thing in business. They're the only thing. Omar opened with something he says constantly on his own show, and it bears repeating here. If your margins aren't healthy, you can't hire great people, you can't delegate, you can't step back, and you definitely can't build a business that serves your life. He says sixty percent is the floor, and anything below that puts you on life support. Software, digital products, service businesses built on systems, these are the models that get you there. Get the margins right first, then build everything else on top. Stop trying to find a diamond in the rough when it comes to hiring. Omar went looking for the most expensive engineer he could find on Upwork, a former engineering exec at Yahoo, because his software needed someone elite. That one person did in ten hours a week what five cheaper engineers couldn't. You pay for it upfront or you pay for it later in messes, rewrites, and wasted time. The same goes for editors, videographers, anyone whose taste and skill directly affects the quality of what you're putting into the world. One great hire changes everything. Validate before you build. Before Webinar Ninja was a real product, Omar and Nicole pre-sold it. One hundred and fifty spots in 48 hours, just on the promise of a solution four months out. That told them everything. People don't just say they want something when they put actual money down. If you're sitting on a business idea right now and haven't tested whether anyone will pay for it yet, that's the only thing that matters next. Embrace the struggle as part of the deal. Omar grew up watching his Egyptian immigrant parents rebuild their lives from scratch in America. That foundation gave him something money can't buy, a high tolerance for discomfort and a genuinely low floor for what counts as failure. He says his fondest memories from ten years at Webinar Ninja are the hard moments, the fires, the pivots, the times he had no idea how he'd get out of something. That mindset isn't just feel-good advice. It's a practical edge. When you stop treating struggle as a sign something's wrong and start treating it as the job, you get a lot harder to shake. AI is not optional anymore, and using it to figure out how to use it better is the move. Omar is building new software on weekends using Claude and Windsurf, no code, no development team. He's using Claude to write his prompts before he even opens the builder. What used to take years now takes a few weekends. He's clear that the people who are thriving right now aren't just using AI, they're building the habit of reaching for it first, staying curious about its limits, and using it to multiply everything they already do well. If you're still on the fence, he'd tell you that fence is expensive. We also get into what it's actually like to sell a business, the 16 months it took, the emotional whiplash of feeling relief and then feeling lost, the NDA that keeps him from saying the number but also the fact that he blinked twice. What would you be doing if nobody judged you? That answer is probably what your soul is calling you toward. Step into that and serve people from that place. That's where your real power lives. This episode is going to hit you right where it counts. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I sit down with David Allen, the bestselling author of "Getting Things Done" and the creator of the GTD methodology that has genuinely changed how millions of people think about productivity. With over three million books sold across 30 plus countries, David is one of the most influential voices in personal effectiveness on the planet. He's also a husband, a dog dad, a student of Zen, a former karate black belt, a guy who had 35 jobs before the age of 35, and someone who has been living his best life in Amsterdam for the last 12 years. Oh, and he just turned 80 and still does everything he teaches. That detail alone stopped me in my tracks. What makes this episode matter is that David doesn't talk about productivity as a hustle metric. He talks about it as a path to mental freedom. From the moment he started consulting entrepreneurs and CEOs in the 80s, he noticed one universal pattern: people were trying to use their brains as their office, and it was quietly wrecking them. We talk about why ambient anxiety is the silent epidemic no one's addressing, how the modern world has multiplied the volume of inputs to an almost unbearable level, and why the most productive thing you can do has nothing to do with working harder. Here are a few powerful takeaways from this conversation: Your brain is a terrible office, and it's time to stop treating it like one. David makes it crystal clear that your mind was not built to remember, remind, prioritize, or manage the relationships between more than about four things at once. It's the kind you just learn to live with, until you decide you don't want to anymore. Most people never get a reference point for what it actually feels like to have nothing on your mind except what you want on it. That clarity is available to you, and this episode shows you how to get there. Capture, clarify, organize, reflect, engage. In that order, every time. The GTD methodology is five steps, and David walks through each one in a way that finally makes it click. The biggest mistake most people make is skipping the clarify step, collecting tasks without ever deciding what they actually mean or what the next action is. Outcome thinking plus action thinking, together, is the engine of real productivity. Miss either one, and you end up with either a dream that goes nowhere or busyness that produces nothing. Reflection isn't a luxury. It's the step that holds everything together. David recommends a thorough weekly review of all your commitments, not because it's a nice habit, but because without it your system goes stale and your trust in it collapses. When you reflect consistently, you've already done the thinking. In the moment, you just pick and shoot. That's the kind of clear, confident decision making we all want, and it starts with scheduled stillness. The two minute rule is still one of the most underrated productivity moves out there. If something takes less than two minutes, do it now. David told me he has zero backlog of two minute tasks because they're already done. Walk around your house right now and notice how many little things are nagging at you that would take under two minutes to fix. Do them. Your environment will feel completely different, and so will your head. We also get into the six horizons of thinking, how "channel creep" is quietly overwhelming your focus, what David would tell his younger self, his take on procrastinating the things you love most, and the publishing advice he wishes more aspiring authors knew before writing their first word. This episode is a reminder that happy hustling isn't about doing more. It's about being appropriately engaged with everything you've committed to, so you can actually show up fully for the things and people that matter most. It's about getting honest with yourself, backed by real science and real data, so you can finally understand why chasing more keeps leaving you empty, and what to focus on instead. Here's the big shift: the villain isn't ambition. It's misdirected ambition. Most of us are running harder and staying in the same spot emotionally, because we're chasing things that science already proves won't bring lasting happiness. The cure isn't deprivation. It's redirection toward the things that actually move the needle on fulfillment. A few key takeaways from this episode: Money is a tool, not a cure. Research from Princeton, Penn, and a joint 2023 study all point to the same truth. If you're unhappy, more income won't fix it. Past a certain threshold, you'd have to double your earnings just for a tiny bump in satisfaction. Money buys you options, and options are beautiful. But it won't buy you peace. Social media is engineered to keep you wanting more. The 2026 World Happiness Report found that more than five hours a day on social media links directly to lower well-being, more stress, and more depression. It was built like a slot machine, wired to trigger the same novelty craving. The wildest stat? Most US college students wish it didn't exist, but keep using it because everyone else does. Your stuff owns you more than you own it. Study after study shows high materialism links to lower life satisfaction. Buying things to fill a void doesn't fill it, it just makes the void louder. Past a point, your possessions cost you your time, your attention, and your peace. Presence is the actual cure. A Harvard study tracking over 2,000 people found that our minds wander 47% of the time, and that wandering is what makes us unhappy. How present you are predicts your happiness better than what you're actually doing. The things that bring the most genuine joy, real connection, movement, nature, being fully in the moment, none of them are for sale. Define your true freedom number. Enough isn't a feeling that shows up on its own. You have to define it. Get crystal clear on what financial and creative freedom actually look like for you. When you hit it, celebrate it. Stop moving the goalpost. Measure yourself against where you've been, not some ever-shifting version of where you think you should be. What if the key to building something truly great wasn't perfect balance, but the courage to be temporarily out of it? That question hit me hard in this week's conversation, and I think it's going to hit you the same way. This episode of the Happy Hustle Podcast is one of those conversations that just fires you up from start to finish. My guest is Tayson Whitaker, founder and president of Outdoor Vitals, a performance ultralight backpacking company he started at just 23 years old with $500 in his pocket and a whole lot of grit. Ten years later, Outdoor Vitals has grown into a multimillion dollar direct to consumer brand that's helping thousands of people build the confidence to get outside and actually live. Tayson didn't take investor money. He didn't chase REI shelf space. He built something real, stayed true to his mission, and somehow managed to keep his soul in the process. That's the kind of story that belongs on this podcast. We covered a ton of ground in this one. From bootstrapping and Kickstarter campaigns that generated over two and a half million dollars, to using AI as a tool to give small teams the firepower of big ones, to the Masogi concept and why doing something that scares the heck out of you once a year might just reset your entire life. There's something in this episode for every happy hustler out there, whether you're an entrepreneur, an outdoor enthusiast, or someone just trying to figure out how to build something meaningful without losing yourself along the way. Here are some of the biggest lessons I pulled from this conversation. First, focus on one thing and beat the best at it. Tayson was crystal clear on this. The online marketplace is wide open competition, and the entrepreneurs who win are the ones willing to go narrow and go deep. He's seen friends build eight figure businesses off essentially one product. Not because they were lucky, but because they committed, perfected it, and refused to chase every shiny object in sight. He's honest about struggling with this himself, which makes it land even harder. Second, constraints breed creativity. Tayson never took outside funding, and that decision forced him to innovate in ways he never would have otherwise. Kickstarter, a membership program that turns into store credit, building a loyal customer base from scratch. None of that gets created if you've got a VC writing checks and calling the shots. He said it plainly. Once you define what you will and won't do, you can innovate within those boundaries. That's it. That's the whole game. Third, the Masogi mindset will change how you see hard things. A Masogi is a challenge you take on where you've got roughly a 50/50 shot of actually pulling it off. Not something that's going to kill you, but something real enough that failure is genuinely on the table. Tayson has done hundred mile solo hikes, ultra marathons, and rim to rim to rim in the Grand Canyon. And his takeaway every time is the same. When life throws a curveball the next day, it just doesn't feel that heavy anymore. Because you know what hard really looks like now. Fourth, temporary imbalance is not the enemy. This one really got me. Tayson flips the whole balance conversation on its head, and honestly, I think he's right. You don't build anything great living in perfect daily balance. You sprint when it's time to sprint, and you back off when you've made the gains. The key is just being honest with yourself about what season you're in and making sure you find your way back. He's been running Outdoor Vitals for twelve years and still loves it. That's not an accident. That's someone who learned to listen to his own signals. Fifth, AI is a tool for magnifying people, not replacing them. Tayson's take on AI is grounded and practical. He sees it the same way he sees the internet or the smartphone. It's technology. It gives small teams the ability to do what only big teams could do before. One person managing AI focused entirely on email, or ads, or brand messaging, is a multiplier that wasn't available even five years ago. The opportunity isn't in fearing it. It's in being the one who figures out how to pull the lever well. This conversation reminded me of everything I love about building a business with purpose. Tayson isn't just selling gear. Garrett Gunderson said it clearly. Cash flow beats net worth. Invest in assets that pay you monthly. Kiana Danial backed this up with a deceptively simple move, dollar cost averaging into the market every single month without fail. The reason most people aren't building wealth isn't a lack of access. It's a lack of consistency. Buy, hold, repeat. Here's what I want you to walk away with. Five moves you can make right now. Calculate your buyback rate, which is your annual income divided by roughly 2000 hours, then stop spending time on anything below that number. Reprice at least one offer based on the value it delivers, not the hours it took you. Add one cash flowing asset this quarter, whether that's real estate, dividend stocks, or a digital product. But what sets him apart, what makes him the real deal, is how intentionally he has built his life from the inside out. His five sons each launched million-dollar businesses before the age of 19. Not because Rich handed them anything, but because he built a framework, a living, breathing family legacy system he calls Legato, that shaped them into powerful, centered, contributing men. This episode is one of those rare ones you'll want to come back to. Whether you're a husband, a father, an entrepreneur, or all three, Rich drops wisdom that will genuinely stop you mid-scroll and make you think hard about how you're spending your time, your energy, and your love. The first big takeaway is what Rich calls the 2-Minute Surrender. Most of us are walking around in limbic brain all day, stuck in a primal loop of fight or flight, triggered by every notification, every bad email, every scroll through social media. Rich breaks down a five-step sequence you can run through in under two minutes to snap out of that fog and get back into your frontal cortex, where clear, powerful decisions actually happen. The steps are simple: move your body, take three deep breaths, say a power mantra, ask your higher power for what you need, and visualize a moment or place that brings you genuine joy. That's it. Rich runs through this sequence four or five times a day, especially before big meetings or high-stakes moments, and the research backs him up. Visualization alone has been shown to be nearly as effective as physical practice. Your mind is that powerful. The second takeaway is the Values Blueprint. Rich has spent over 20 years as what he calls "the values guy," and he makes a sharp point most of us miss: we are great at defining values for our companies, we're getting better at it for our families, but very few individuals can clearly articulate their own personal value system. That gap is where the chaos lives. Rich's process walks you through identifying your core values, emotionally anchoring them with mantras and phrases that actually stick, defining what they mean in real concrete terms, and building screening questions to test whether the people in your life are genuinely in alignment with what you stand for. The whole workbook is free on his website, richchristensen.com, and I'd strongly encourage you to grab it. The third takeaway is the circles of relationship, and this one hit me like a truck. Rich breaks down the layers of connection in our lives from blood brothers, the one or two people who'd give you a kidney, to your trust network, your tribe, your community, and your contacts. Here's the part that stings: most of us are pouring our absolute best energy into the outer circle, our social media followers, our casual contacts, the people who don't even know our middle names, while we're giving the leftover, burned out, depleted version of ourselves to the people who love us most. Rich challenges us to flip that completely. Give 60 to 70 percent of your best to your inner circle. The people who'd show up at 3 in the morning. That's where real wealth lives. The fourth takeaway is the Legato rites of passage, and honestly, this part of the conversation is worth the full listen on its own. Rich designed intentional milestones for each of his five sons at ages 8, 12, 14, 16, and 18. At 12, he took each son on a three-week trip that included a deep adventure followed by serving orphaned children in Nepal, connecting them to something much bigger than themselves. At 14, each son climbed a major mountain peak to prove to himself he could do hard, genuinely hard things. At 16, each son shook Rich's hand and declared his independence, committing to never ask for financial support again, then built a business to back it up. The goal wasn't to produce rich kids. The goal was to produce sovereign men. Centered, purposeful, and powerful in their own right. The fifth takeaway is the straight truth about value alignment in business. Rich is clear: smart people who like each other but aren't values-aligned will blow up a company. Full stop. He built teams of 15 that outperformed teams of 50, not because they worked harder but because the speed of trust was so high there were no unnecessary stops, no friction, no second-guessing. Value congruency is your competitive advantage. Screen for it. Build around it. Protect it. Rich also touches on digital unplugging and the danger of technology keeping us locked in limbic brain, something we talk about a lot in the Happy Hustle world. The bottom line is this: your best thinking, your deepest relationships, and your most meaningful decisions don't happen on the screen. They happen when you're present, grounded, and actually in the room with the people who matter. If you want to live a life of real flow, not just hustle for its own sake, you need value alignment at every level: personally, in your relationships, in your business, and in how you spend your time and money. If I couldn't sit around a campfire, crack open a beer, and genuinely enjoy an hour of uninterrupted conversation with this person, I'm not bringing them into my world. No resume, no portfolio, no fancy credentials are going to override that gut check. Skills can be trained. Character can't. I get real in this episode about the mistakes I made early on in the Happy Hustle. I was working with people who were perfectly qualified on paper but had nothing in common with me or the culture I was building. Corporate grinders who wanted a business, clients I had zero connection with. The conversations were flat. The energy was off. And it dragged everything down. The moment I started filtering for personality first and skills second, everything shifted. There are also some cold hard numbers in here that'll wake you up fast. According to the US Department of Labor, one bad hire can cost you 30% of that person's first year salary. At the executive level, we're talking up to $240,000 in lost productivity, churn, and opportunity cost. That's real money walking out the door because you skipped the right filter. Most entrepreneurs spend more time picking out a truck than they do choosing a teammate. That stops now. The other thing I want you to think about is contagion. One person with bad energy, bad habits, or a bad attitude doesn't just underperform. They drag the whole team down with them. Late on tasks, missing meetings, not following through. It spreads. And by the time you realize what's happening, the damage is done. The Beer Test is my answer to all of that. It's not about whether someone's a perfect culture fit on paper. In this conversation, I got to sit down with my good friend Nick Hutchison, bestselling author of "Rise of the Reader," keynote speaker, and founder of Book Thinkers, a company that helps authors promote and market their books so they actually get read. But five weeks later, he was making friends, learning Spanish, and becoming a more confident, self-reliant human. That's what books do when you actually act on them. He has done business in over 14 countries, written multiple bestselling books, and created programs like Legato Family that have genuinely changed the trajectory of my own family's life. He is also a husband, father of five sons, a man of deep faith, and someone who walks his talk every single day. Rich has spent decades helping legacy families and high-performing entrepreneurs get out of chaos by getting clear on what they actually stand for, and that is exactly what we get into today. This episode is centered around Rich's values workbook, a practical, deeply personal framework he has been privately using in two-day intensive mentoring sessions for 15 years with some of the most successful people in the world. Because here is the truth: most of us think we know our values, but we actually do not. We have borrowed them from our business, our sports team, or our parents, and we have never stopped to do the real work of figuring out what we actually stand for. That gap is costing us peace, costing us relationships, and costing us way more than we realize. Here are the key takeaways from this episode that I think every Happy Hustler needs to sit with: The first is that identifying your real values is the foundation of everything. Rich walks through all eight components of his values workbook in this episode, and it starts with uncovering your true core values, not the ones you borrowed from somewhere else, but the ones that are genuinely yours. He uses seven generation thinking, looking back at the wisdom of your ancestors and forward to what you want to leave for your great-grandchildren, to help you find what you actually stand for. Most people skip this step entirely and wonder why they feel so scattered. The second is that your trash can values matter just as much as your core ones. Rich opens up about his own journey of identifying and eliminating guilt, shame, and scarcity from his life, values he inherited but never chose. He shares a beautiful story about his 240-pound son grabbing him by the shoulders during a game of pool after Rich muttered something self-critical, and reminding him that those are not the values they agreed to live by. That story hit me hard, and I think it will hit you too. The third is that you have to emotionalize your values or they will never stick. Rich talks about naming your values in a way that fires something up inside you. Not boring corporate words like integrity or hard work, but names like hope gripper, or work win waddle, names that carry meaning and create an inside language between the people in your world. This is how culture gets built in a family or a business, through that inside emotional connection. The fourth is that your values become the mediator in every hard conversation. Instead of pointing the finger at another person when conflict shows up, you point to the shared value and have the conversation from there. Rich calls this the ligament in the relationship, and once you hear him explain it, you will never want to have a hard conversation any other way again. The fifth is one that shook me: most of us are giving 60 to 80 percent of our best energy to the outermost circle of our lives, the contacts, the followers, the people scrolling past our posts, and only 5 to 10 percent to the blood brothers and sisters who would actually show up for us at 2 in the morning. Rich challenges you to flip that, to protect your inner circle like it is sacred, because it is. I want to leave you with something Rich said near the end of this conversation that I have not been able to stop thinking about. He talked about a billionaire who sat across from him and wept, not because of money problems or business failures, but because he had 10,000 people he could call and not one who loved his soul enough to give him a kidney without expecting something in return. You started your business to build a better life. Somewhere along the way, though, the business became your whole life. Sound familiar? Trust me, I've been there, and that's exactly why I wanted to have this conversation. Here's the real question I want you to sit with. What if the reason, you're stuck right now isn't because you're not working hard enough, but because you're working too much the wrong way? Most entrepreneurs are convinced that grinding 24/7 is the path to success. But the data and real life say otherwise. Founders who get seven to eight hours of sleep and train consistently outperform sleep deprived grinders every single time. And according to Owl Labs, 67% of people actually work better in energy driven bursts, not rigid nine to five blocks. So let me say this clearly. Balance isn't soft. It's a performance strategy. The big lie most of us bought into is that hustle harder equals results. It doesn't. Grinding more hours does not equal better results. Optimized energy equals exponential output. You don't need more time. You need more aligned energy. So here's where I want you to start. Audit your last seven days. Write down what you did in 15 minute increments and ask yourself two honest questions. When were you most productive? And when were you completely fried? That exercise alone will show you your peak power windows, and once you know them, everything changes. Now let's talk about sleep, because this one is non-negotiable. Sleep isn't just recovery. It's performance enhancement. Seven to eight hours a night leads to better decision making, sharper creativity, and stronger emotional regulation. Skip it and you're showing up slower, making worse deals, and leading poorly without even realizing it. I personally stack magnesium glycinate before bed, wear blue light blockers after sunset, and keep my room cold and dark right around 65 to 68 degrees. I also keep consistent sleep and wake times even on weekends. Simple stuff, but it works. Win the night and you dominate the day. Third, your body is the hardware and your brain is the software. You have to train both. Exercise boosts cognitive function, lifts your mood through dopamine and serotonin, and builds your resilience under stress. The minimum effective dose I recommend is three to four strength sessions a week, 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day, and one to two high intensity sessions to get your heart rate up. And I'll be straight with you, I haven't been nailing this lately with a newborn at home. But the goal isn't perfection. It's treating your workouts like investor calls. Non-negotiable. Locked in. No excuses. Fourth, stop working in time blocks and start working in energy sprints. The world is shifting from time based work to energy based work, and for good reason. Your brain naturally operates in 90 minute cycles. So here's the framework I use. Lock in for 90 minutes of pure deep work with zero distractions, no social media, no notifications, no context switching. Just you and your three most valuable tasks. Then step away for 10 to 20 minutes. Walk outside, do some breathwork, stretch, get some fresh air. Then come back and go again. Work like a lion, not a cow. Sprint, recover, and repeat. That's how I get more done in 20 hours a week than I used to in 50. Fifth, strategic downtime is not laziness. It's actually one of the most powerful business growth tools you have. Your best ideas don't happen at your desk. They happen in nature, in the shower, on a walk, or while you're completely unplugged doing something you love. I block out a minimum of two to four hours each week for a full digital detox. I schedule think time in my calendar like any other important meeting. And I make it a point to get out into nature as much as possible because when you get quiet, the best ideas come. Replace one hour of low quality, distracted work with one hour of intentional recovery and watch what happens to your output. And sixth, balance isn't accidental. It's engineered. That's why I created the Soul Mapping System, what I call S.O.U.L.M.A.P.P.I.N., which covers 10 key areas of life including optimized health, unplugging digitally, loving relationships, passionate hobbies, and nature connection, among others. Every Sunday evening I score myself from one to five in each category. I look at where I'm crushing it and where I'm slacking, and I adjust my priorities for the week ahead. Now here's how I put it all together in what I call the Anti-Burnout Productivity Stack. Seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Three to five training sessions a week. Two to four focused deep work sprints daily. Daily and weekly recovery blocks built into your schedule. And a flex calendar that's aligned with your energy, not just your obligations. If something on your calendar doesn't bring you expansive energy, it's draining you. And that drain is costing you income and impact. So here's my challenge to you. Try this for just three days. Sleep seven to eight hours each night. Do one workout or long walk each day. Work only in 90 minute sprints. And take one intentional recovery block daily. Then track your productivity, your mood, and your output. I promise you'll be surprised by what you see. If you want to 10x your output, stop trying to 10x your hours. That equation never works. The kind of insights people usually pay a lot of money to be in the room for. We also had some amazing speakers join us. Joey Klein, founder of the Inner Matrix System, shared powerful insights on mastering your internal state. Jason Gaddis, relationship expert and founder of The Relationship School, walked us through how to repair and strengthen relationships. Garrett Gunderson, a financial strategist and wealth expert, broke down smarter ways to think about taxes and money. And Rudi Riekstins brought a fresh perspective on energy, alignment, and how it directly impacts your business. This episode matters because most entrepreneurs are chasing success from a place that's slightly off. It looks good on the outside, but something feels off on the inside. And that misalignment eventually catches up. Here are a few of the biggest takeaways that really landed for me. First, everything starts with your internal state. Joey Klein reminded us that your external results are just a mirror of what's going on inside. If you're operating from fear, scarcity, or control, it's going to show up in your business and your life. Awareness is the first step. Then comes choice. Then repatterning. It's not about grinding harder. It's about rewiring what's underneath. Second, your relationships matter more than your revenue. Jason Gaddis said it best. You can't be crushing it in business and failing at home. That's not success. His framework, listen, understand, feel understood, and then connect deeper, is simple but powerful. Most people avoid conflict. But leaning into it the right way can actually strengthen your relationships in a big way. Third, it's not just about making money, it's about keeping it. Garrett Gunderson challenged the way most entrepreneurs think about taxes. Instead of reacting at the end of the year, you want a strategy from the start. The tax code isn't there to punish you. It's a set of rules you can learn and use to your advantage. That shift alone can change everything financially. Fourth, your energy drives your results. Rudi Riekstins talked about how every business has an energetic frequency. If you're forcing outcomes, you're probably feeling stuck. But when you're aligned, things start to flow. It sounds simple, but it's real. Where you have energy leaks, you often have revenue leaks too. And finally, none of this works without the right people around you. Have you ever poured years of your life into something, only to realize you've completely lost yourself in it? Yeah. Most entrepreneurs know that feeling way too well. And today's guest has lived it, learned from it, and built something pretty incredible on the other side of it. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I sit down with Nic De Castro, founder and CEO of LandTrust, a land sharing marketplace that connects hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts with private landowners across the country. Nic spent most of his twenties working in early-stage tech startups, living out of a suitcase, crossing a million flight miles before he ever got serious about the things he actually loved. He grew up spearfishing in Southern California, moved to Montana in 2016, and pretty much immediately stumbled onto the idea that would become LandTrust. Six and a half years later, he's running a platform with over a million and a half acres, tens of thousands of users, and a lean team that's growing faster than ever. He's also a husband and a dad to three girls, which, trust me, comes up in the conversation in the best way. This episode matters because Nic isn't some billion dollar exit guy telling you how easy it all was. He's in it right now, doing the work, navigating the hard stuff, and being real about all of it. One of the biggest things Nic drives home is this: don't make your company your identity. It's so easy, especially as a first time founder, to let your business become who you are. When it's doing well, you feel great. When it tanks, you feel like a failure as a human. Nic's been there. He's had investors he shouldn't have taken money from, he's had near acquisitions fall apart, he lost 15 pounds in a month during one of the hardest stretches. And what got him through it wasn't hustle. It was faith. Surrendering control, trusting that God's plans are bigger than his plans, and slowly learning to hold the business a little looser. On the venture capital side, Nic is refreshingly honest. His advice? Don't take outside money unless you absolutely have to. Once you do, you've got partners, you've got a board, and you've got pressure that changes everything. He's navigated some genuinely tough investor situations and come out the other side, but he's clear that bootstrap founders have a freedom he genuinely envies. If you're thinking about raising capital, this part of the conversation alone is worth your time. Nic also talks about how LandTrust is using AI in a way that actually makes sense. They built an AI trip planning assistant named Buck, and the goal is to have 85% of all bookings happen through him by end of year. What's cool is how Nic thinks about trust with AI agents. Same as hiring a new employee, you check their work, you ask why they made the decisions they made, and over time, as they prove themselves, you give them more room. It's a practical, grounded way to think about bringing AI into your business without just slapping the word on your branding and calling it a day. And then there's the balance piece. Nic started LandTrust full time on July 1st, 2019. His first daughter was born August 5th, 2019. One month later. He was waking up at 3:30 in the morning for years. He'll be the first to tell you the balance wasn't great back then. But he's course corrected. His team is the smallest it's been in years and they're growing faster than ever. His word for it is sustainability, not grinding until you break, but building something you can actually show up for, year after year, without losing your family or yourself in the process. And he went from out-of-shape insurance salesman to five-time Ironman World Championship competitor. So it's safe to say he figured some things out along the way. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I'm resharing the Guest Guru Training that Eric Hinman delivered exclusively to our Happy Hustle Club. Eric is an endurance athlete, serial entrepreneur, investor, and content creator who's built an entire life and business around optimized health. He grew up in a tiny town in upstate New York, started his first business three weeks after graduating college, and spent years building companies, losing money, getting hurt, burning out, and coming back stronger every single time. Now in his mid-40s, he's competing in Ironmans, hosting wellness retreats for founders, and honestly just living what most guys only dream about. This episode matters because Eric doesn't just talk about health in theory. He lives it every single day, and he breaks it all down in a way that's practical, honest, and straight to the point. One of the biggest things Eric drives home is this: don't try to fix everything at once. When he made his health shift, he didn't overhaul his entire life overnight. He started with exercise. Just that. Once it became second nature, he moved on to diet. Then sleep. Then recovery. Each thing got his full attention before he touched the next one. It sounds almost too simple, but that's exactly why it works. Most people quit because they try to change ten things at once and get overwhelmed. Eric's approach is patient, focused, and it compounds over time in a serious way. Eric also talks a lot about designing your environment to match the life you want. His home in Austin isn't just where he lives. It's a content hub, a product seeding space, a wellness retreat, and a lead generation tool all in one. People come over almost every night to use his sauna and cold plunge, and he's met thousands of people that way. Some of them become collaborators, investors, or brand partners. None of that was forced. It just happened because he built his environment around the things he loves most. That's a mindset shift worth sitting with. On the supplement side, Eric keeps it pretty clean and practical. Creatine has been a staple for him since college, and he's a big believer in getting enough protein daily, aiming for at least one gram per pound of bodyweight.
