How have asthma inhalers changed as understanding of asthma has broadened? How could obesity, low Vitamin D, and other factors trigger asthma? Historically, asthma medication has targeted the tightening of the airways (or bronchial tubes) that accompanies an asthma attack. But according to pulmonologist Dr Edward Eden, this has only addressed on part of the problem: “The medications that have been developed now target particular areas of the immune system that we feel are responsible for causing inflammation in the lungs.” Consequently, asthma sufferers are seeing a tighter and longer-lasting control of their symptoms on the newer asthma inhalers–if they're able to afford them. Importantly, Vital Signs host Brendon Fallon explores with Dr. Eden how insurance hurdles–to getting these drugs affordably–might be negotiated. As a pulmonologist, Dr. Eden is focused on treating diseases of the respiratory system, including asthma. He is Professor of Medicine and Clinical Director of the James P. Mara Center for lung disease. Despite the drop in tobacco smoking in recent decades we continue to see a rise in asthma in both adults and children. What role could obesity, low Vitamin D, and exercising–in the wrong time and place–play in triggering asthma? ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

[06:15] Exploring the Impact of UV Light on Opioid Receptors - Alastair based his hypothesis on research papers he uncovered, particularly focusing on UV light's effects on opioid receptors in the brain. - He spoke to a doctor at Mass General who was conducting research on this topic, primarily with mice. The hypothesis suggested that UV light could affect opioid receptors in human brains. - Alastair took a proactive approach to test his hypothesis by exposing himself aggressively to UV light. Living in New York City, he deliberately spent two hours in the sun every day during the summer, in addition to using a tanning bed vigorously. The goal was to maximize exposure to UV light. - Alastair was strategic about the timing of UV exposure, going out between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., which is considered the highest UV index. He aimed to expose himself during the peak hours of UV intensity to enhance the effectiveness of the experiment. [08:30] Narcan's Swift Action and Alastair's UV Light Experiment - Narcan rapidly detaches substances that bind to opioid receptors in the brain. It acts quickly, causing not only a reversal of the respiratory effects but also inducing withdrawal symptoms if the person is not breathing. This mechanism serves as the basis for Alastair's experiment. - Alastair hypothesized that if there is a correlation between UV light and the opioid effect in the brain, Narcan, known to work on normal opioid usage, should have a similar effect in the presence of UV light. This led him to experiment by exposing himself to UV light and then taking Narcan, resulting in a full withdrawal experience. - According to him, the consistent results indicated that UV light does indeed affect opioid receptors in the brain. - Alastair's experience lends support to the notion that UV light has a significant and consistent impact on opioid receptors in the brain. [12:30] An Exploration of Light, Mood, and the Subtle Opioid Influence of UV Rays - Alastair decided to dig deeper into the connection between light exposure, particularly visible light, and mood disorders like SAD. - He discovered that, separate from the positive effects of visible light seen in SAD treatment, there's another aspect involving UV light, which is not visible to the human eye. - UV light, distinct from visible light, has effects on the body, including replenishing vitamin D levels and influencing opioid receptors. - Alastair explained that UV light, over time, subtly affects human opioid receptors, similar to substances like heroin, morphine, fentanyl, and Vicodin. - While the response is not as strong, prolonged exposure to sunlight can lead to feelings of tiredness or reinvigoration, akin to experiencing a mild opioid stimulation. This sheds light on why people may enjoy spending a day at the beach or using tanning beds to achieve a subtle opioid effect. [19:20] Addressing Opioid Addiction and Tanning Bed Dualities - Alastair suggests that one approach to address opioid addiction is to ensure individuals receive enough sunlight and vitamin D throughout their lives. By maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D, the brain may be less likely to respond to prescription painkillers in an addictive manner, potentially preventing addiction from the outset. - Researchers are exploring an alternative approach for individuals already abusing or dependent on opioids. Instead of traditional methods like methadone clinics, where individuals are gradually tapered off opioids, there is evidence suggesting that ultraviolet (UV) light could serve as a substitute. - Alastair discusses the dual nature of tanning beds. While he initially doubted the concept of tanning bed addiction, he acknowledges that there is compelling evidence from esteemed researchers suggesting that tanning beds, with their potent UVA light, can be as addictive as synthetic opioids like Vicodin or Oxycodone. - However, he also highlights the potential use of tanning beds as a tool to help individuals transition off synthetic opioids. [23:45] Sunblock Controversies: Balancing Skin Cancer Prevention and Vitamin D Synthesis - The use of sunblock is a controversial subject, particularly in discussions involving dermatologists who often focus on skin cancer prevention. - Overexposure to ultraviolet radiation, especially from the sun, is known to cause skin cancer. While some doctors recommend avoiding UV light and using vitamin D supplements, Alastair suggests a more relaxed approach, emphasizing the benefits of an active lifestyle and time spent outdoors. - Some doctors advocate for sunblock as a means to prevent skin cancer, while others, like Alastair, express concerns about its potential negative impact on vitamin D synthesis. - Alastair expresses skepticism about the marketing behind sunblocks, suggesting that it may not always be honest. [48:00] A Journey through Mood Changes and Tanning Bed Seeking Behavior - As the seasons changed, Alastair noticed a shift in his mood and described feeling a compulsion in the back of his mind. This compulsion led to what he referred to as "tanning bed seeking behavior." - He experienced a sense of low-level gloom and a compulsion to seek out tanning, akin to textbook drug-seeking behavior. - Alastair was mindful of the behavioral changes he observed in himself, characterized by a compulsion to seek out tanning beds. - He noted that the compulsion to seek out tanning eventually went away. While he initially felt the urge to address the low mood through tanning, with time, the compulsion subsided. AND MUCH MORE! In today's world we face pain and illness all around us. We face the risk of different diseases that can impact our lives. Now, more than ever, taking care of ourselves is essential. Through God's guidance, we can find healing and protection from disease for our mind, body, and spirit. He has given us the ability to become healthy and stay strong through faith, prevention, and nature's medicine.[1]God's Word and natural medicine can help us tap into this God-given ability to heal our mind, body, and spirit. In this episode of the Revelations Podcast, Dr. George Kramer shares his experience using natural medicine, prayer and the Word of God. We dig into the roots of medicine and talk about the role of spiritual medicine in illness and healing and dive into what Scripture says about our health and treatment. Dr. George also shares his advice to help us start caring for ourselves with natural and regenerative medicine.Join us in this conversation to learn more about what the Holy Bible says about health and God's role as our healer. Here are three reasons why you should listen to this episode:Discover how to use nature's medicine to heal and prevent illnesses.Understand more about God's Word as we dive into the scriptures about health and healing.Take an active role in your health with the simple things you can do to care for yourself.ResourcesMore from the Revelations Podcast: Website | Instagram | Apple PodcastLearn about Dr. George Kramer and his practice on his websiteHidden Bible Health Secrets by Reginald Cherry, M.D.Bible Verses:1 John 1:9Proverbs 17:22Exodus 15:26Proverbs 4: 20-22Proverbs 14:30Jeremiah 17:14Deuteronomy 28Deuteronomy 30:193 John 1:2This Episode is brought to you by Advanced Medicine AlternativesGet back to the active life you love through natural & regenerative musculoskeletal healing: https://www.georgekramermd.com/Episode Highlights[03:35] A Healthy Spirit, Mind, and BodyDisease is unease, strife, and struggle. The Scripture says that a crushed spirit dries up the bone. Dr. Kramer explains how a crushed spirit can dry the bone marrow and affect the immune system. There needs to be a holistic approach to health. Our spiritual and emotional health affects our physical body. The Bible has directions on how to treat our body, mind, and spirit. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit; we need to take care of it.Taking care of your body can mean a healthy diet and avoiding toxins in your mind, body, and spirit.[08:06] The History of MedicineMedical school started in Europe in the 15th or 16th century. Hippocrates is the Father of Medicine. He separated medicine from philosophy, but still called on gods for healing.During the 19th and 20th centuries, Western medicine separated God from medicine. We've recently begun to look at the spiritual roots of illnesses. For Israelites and Hebrew, healing was in the hands of God. Doctors are helpers who administer treatment while God heals.[12:41] Choosing Nature's MedicineThere were already different forms of natural healing in early medicine. Different civilizations used nature's medicine: plants, herbs, and diets.Natural medicine or naturopathy doctors use natural techniques, diets, and supplements to encourage natural healing. While Western medicine has many techniques and medicines that are lifesaving, simply taking care of oneself shouldn't be excluded. The drug industry has taken over the country10.George: “[Pills are] adulterating your body's function rather than stimulating to heal itself, which is a natural medicine way. And God commands us to take care of ourselves naturally.”Unfortunately, drugs are often advertised and encouraged in the U.S. Pharmaceutical medicines have many side effects that might lead to more sickness.[20:00] Preventative MedicineNowadays, preventative medicine has become a specialty. Unfortunately, it still focuses more on pharmaceuticals rather than lifestyle changes.Only a few doctors are educated about this and don't have the time to educate others as well.People often expect prescriptions for treatment. People prefer pills to get better right away instead of changing their lifestyles to prevent disease. It's best to talk to a doctor to find out what we can best do for ourselves. A naturopath consultant can advise on ways to lessen the number of drugs we might need to take.We must actively choose and try to use nature's medicine. A healthy life is worth investing our time, money, and energy in.[23:15] God's Words of HealingRaegan shares how she prefers working with a Christian doctor who understands God.There was a time when she had an atheist physician, and they prayed together for him. God may want us to share Jesus with others who are helping us.The Word of God can help us understand what, why, and how we can heal.God's words are life and healing.[26:19] Heal the Mind to Heal the BodyOur psychological and emotional state can affect the body. Envy, jealousy, bitterness, unforgiveness, trauma, and woundedness can lead to illness. These emotions can be the root of disease. We must stay healthy and care for ourselves physically, emotionally, and mentally. We can do this by knowing the Word, getting social support, and working on our psychological wounds to allow healing.[30:08] God's Paths for HealingIn the Old Testament, God asks for our obedience for His healing and protection from disease. We have a responsibility to understand how God wants us to live.Reagan: “We can live in freedom in that, but also know that we are living in spirit and truth and following the spirit and how he wants us to live. And that brings blessing and that brings healing.”God can provide healing in many different ways. We can use the natural things God gave us and follow practices from the Old Testament to stay healthy. Some Christians who pray for healing receive it, while others can take a slower healing path. God calls on us to take an active role in our healing. In the Bible, Jesus doesn't always heal people right away. He uses natural things and instructs them on treating and caring for themselves.[35:53] Simple Ways to Help OurselvesGod has taught George about healing and taking care of people. He has been able to see the miracle of people's recoveries. One simple way we can help ourselves is by taking Vitamin D supplements. Supplements can help prevent different diseases and support our various organ systems.Low Vitamin D levels can even cause some chronic pain. We need optimal nutrition. It's essential to do everything we can to get what we want. We can't just rely on prayer.[43:44] Different Types of MedicinesTraditional Western medicine or allopathic medicine is disease-oriented. It focuses on identifying the disease before treating it.Natural medicine or naturopathy looks at the balance in the person. It aims to correct the imbalance and optimize the body to heal itself naturally.George: “Our bodies are designed by God to heal if given the right tools and the right situation and the right environment and support.”Alternative medicine includes different techniques from various cultures and traditions. Subgroups include acupuncture, reiki healing, and shamanism.Integrative medicine integrates the different types of medicine. Vitamins, meditation, and others can support modern medical treatment.George uses more natural musculoskeletal medicine to stimulate the body for long-term healing. [49:23] How to Choose LifeGod tells us to choose life. Jesus came down on Earth so that we live our lives fully. The first step is to listen to God's Word and choose to follow Him.The second thing is to learn how to treat our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit. We must care for our heart, mind, body, and spirit. It can be a long process. We need to put in the effort and stay healthy continuously. We can only expect progress if we act.Disease can be caused by getting too much of what we don't need and not enough of what we do need.[53:35] Integrating Prayer in Medical PracticeIn the Scripture, John prays for his friends to enjoy good health and for the soul to get along well. Many people have good health but don't enjoy it. They don't realize what they have until they lose it.George encourages those with good health to enjoy their good health. He prays with them if they want to. Prayer gives glory to God and calls upon His healing. It also encourages people to pray for themselves and can awaken their faith.About Dr. George KramerDr. George Kramer is a doctor practicing musculoskeletal medicine and is board certified in physical medicine, rehabilitation, and pain medicine. Do you sit in an office all day or avoid sun exposure? If so, you may be deficient in Vitamin D. Everyone needs Vitamin D for optimal health. Low Vitamin D causes a chain of events which ultimately results in your body not expressing DNA properly. Whatever condition you may have will be heightened if you are Vitamin D deficient. There is also a correlation between low Vitamin D and depression. Vitamin D and Vitamin K2 work hand in hand to increase the body's absorption of calcium into the bones. Vitamin D is vital to a healthy immune system, which is our best insurance against multiple illnesses. Vidcast: https://youtu.be/F2ENtjzemsg CoVid-infected persons were 61% more likely to have low serum levels of Vitamin D than the uninfected, and this phenomenon was more prominent in women than in men. This diminished Vitamin D was more strongly associated with contracting CoVid than other medical issues or so-called comorbidities. These conclusions are the result of a large collaborative meta-analysis by researchers in India and in the UK. Sixteen eligible studies yield 386,631 patients for analysis. The Vitamin D levels were more than 2-fold lower in CoVid-infected women compared with uninfected women while infected men had Vitamin D levels 74% lower. The presence or absence of comorbidities including excess weight, diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, and mental illness were not as strongly associated with CoVid infection as were Vitamin D levels. A potential vulnerability to a CoVid infection is yet another reason for you to ask your medical team to assess your serum Vitamin D level. Add this reason to the long list including bone weakness and dissolution, cardiovascular disease, asthma in children, cognitive problems, and cancer. https://jpmph.org/upload/pdf/jpmph-21-640.pdf #vitaminD #CoVid #osteoporosis #cardiovascular #dementia #cancer

Do you experience any of the following:1. Poor sleep; insomnia, restless, waking up flat and fatigued2. Metabolic distress and disorders, digestion, insulin resistance, cancer3. Weakened immune system 4. Inflammatory disease5. Low Vitamin D status6. Psychological distress, mood swings, memory loss, and impaired brain function7. Profound decrease in energy8. Accelerated aging9. Loss of connection, feeling isolated, lonely, depression10. Increased levels of cortisol - the stress hormone Listen into this episode all the way to the end as we navigate through Nathan sharing how he lost his health and wellbeing and took it back by learning how to reset his inner biological clock to the Circadian Rhythm of nature. As I mention all the time, in order to live disease free, you must learn to live more in accordance with Nature's Law and your true authentic nature as a Child of God - the author and creator of your life experiences. A study I read recently talked about how vitamin D levels could be linked to depressed teens. A few symptoms linked to a vitamin D deficiency are sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest, loss of concentration, and even thoughts of suicide. Potential causes of a vitamin D deficiency in teens: • Not getting enough sun • Not consuming enough vegetables (not enough magnesium) • Snacking (insulin resistance blocks vitamin D) • A high carb diet (fructose blocks vitamin D) • Obesity (increases the need for vitamin D) • Darker skin blocks vitamin D absorption Other symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency: • Achy joints • Low back pain • Lethargy • Insomnia • Anxiety Natural remedies: • Vitamin D (10,000 IUs) • Magnesium • Vitamin K2 A few more things for teens to do: • Get out in the sun • Consume more vegetables • Stop snacking (do intermittent fasting) • Get on a low-carb diet (healthy keto) Dr. Berg's D3 & K2 Vitamin: https://bit.ly/37zYdLc DATA: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22372... Based on epidemiology data, as to the higher incidence of risk to complications related to Covid-19 exposure in African Americans, science has been exploring a number of possible reasons. New research – “Does the High Prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency in African Americans Contribute to Health Disparities” – which appeared in the online, peer-reviewed journal Nutrients in February of 2021 – says there is a higher prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency in many African Americans – the result of people of African descent having brown-black melanin skin pigment, versus Angelo-Celtics, who have a yellow-to-reddish melanin. That means African Americans are particularly at risk for vitamin D deficiency (less than 20 ng/mL in the blood) at high latitudes, where vitamin D synthesis depends on exposure to solar UVB radiation. At high latitudes, the UVB radiation dose is lower – causing a lower Vitamin D production, which starts in the skin. The researchers from the University of California, Berkley, Sunlight, Nutrition and Health Research Center in San Francisco, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital – both in Boston, comment that, “vitamin D deficiency can be corrected rapidly and inexpensively.”Vitamin D, a seco-hormone, which is a critical component of skeletal integrity, also regulates the activity of many thousand protein-encoding human genes. Vitamin D’s conversion from 25(OH)D2 to 1,25(OH)D3 is a multi-step process in the body. The process begins, when “vitamin D3 is synthesized in human skin by the UVB-dependent conversion of 7-dehydrocholesterol to vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is then converted to 25(OH)D3, a precursor of the crucial vitamin D steroid hormone, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, or calcitriol, in a reaction requiring magnesium.”Evidence points to the fact that higher serum 25(OH)D levels can reduce the risk or severity of acute respiratory tract infections, possibly including COVID-19 – with Vitamin D’s positive impact on innate and acquired immunity. The researchers cite evidence, which says the, “incidence and mortality of COVID have been far higher in African Americans than in European Americans; after adjustment for age, African Americans are 4.5 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than European Americans. As for Vitamin D’s effect on reducing Covid-19 patients from advancing into intensive care units, “in a non-randomized intervention study conducted in Spain among hospitalized patients hospitalized for COVID-19, high doses of vitamin D (as 25(OH) D3) were administered in combination with standard care; only 1/50 required admission to the intensive care unit compared to 13/26 comparable control patients.”Vitamin D is mainly found in fish and fortified foods, such as milk, and sun exposure (if possible), which is why vitamin D supplementation, based on laboratory studies, is required to meet Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) level of at least 20ng/mL. However, “levels between 20 and 30 ng/mL have also been associated with lower risks of colorectal cancer, total mortality, dementia, multiple sclerosis, and bone mineral density.”Yet, according to the Nutrient’s investigators, “three-quarters of African Americans not already taking supplements have levels that do not ensure adequacy even by the IOM definition (20 ng/mL), and 96% have levels below 30 ng/mL. Notably, for African Americans living in Boston, 4000 IU/day was required to achieve serum levels of 30 ng/mL.”Read the rest at MaxWellNutrition.com

In honor of Black History Month, this week's show is about how the Black community was hit harder by COVID-19 than any other population group. In this episode, you'll find out: —How the new Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine has several advantages over the other brands, including the lack of allergic responses seen in other vaccine brands. —When herd immunity for COVID-19 is expected to be reached and restrictions (like lockdowns) reduced. —Why they currently expect the COVID-19 vaccine to be an annual shot, similar to the flu. And which masks are "worse than not wearing a mask at all". —How the CDC reports we have lost, on average, a year of life expectancy for the first time since World War II. But the Black community lost almost three times as much life expectancy during the pandemic. —The underlying health risks in the Black community (such as Hypertension, Obesity, Type II Diabetes) and how these issues contributed to the higher adverse reactions to COVID-19. —How the natural African diet is higher in Arginine, which is a supplement Dr. Prather finds to be especially helpful in combating Kidney Disease and Hypertension for Black patients. —Why Dr. Prather says Vitamin D needs to be tested more for patients with darker skin, which has been a key factor in how people have reacted to COVID-19. —The damaging effects of Low Vitamin D on Cardiovascular Health, Cancer, Autoimmune Disease, and Asthma. —The importance of increased use of Structure-Function Health Care to see improvements in the health of the Black population. www.TheVoiceOfHealthRadio.com
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Cara: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am one of your IHPs and unfortunately it always seems like it's more difficult when we're addressing our own health concerns. In May my father passed away and this was onto of many other stressors. At that time I developed a quarter size rash on both my hips. It took a couple weeks to go away but then an insatiable itching took it's place. This has been going on for 7 months now. If I have a compromised gut due to stress, I have no other symptoms so Im not sure if thats a place to start investigating. The itching usually happens twice a day. I have done a 7 day FM detox during this time and no improvement. I also had a colonic 2 weeks ago and there was no candida or parasites. Please point me in the right direction. I cannot afford my own personal health coach at this time... I'm a newly single mom and trying to figure it all out in the most precarious of times. Thank you Dr. Cabral for all you do!! Mike: Hello. Wondering what the investment is to work with Stephen Cabral and how his waiting list is? Thank you Mike Kica: Hello Dr. Cabral, My husband has been suffering from chronic pain for the last 7 years. He’s about 53 years of age now. It started with a bad cold he got from our son and since then he’s never been the same. He’s had all sorts of test done, seen neurologist, taken antidepressants. By the western medics standers he’s a health man. On top of all this , physical activity makes him feel worse. The only thing he can do is walk. So he doesn’t have a way of releasing his stress by sweating it off. He also has mild sleep apnea. He recently told me he never feels good. It’s very sad. He’s a very bright man! Before we make the financial commitment, as I’m sure your services are not covered by insurance, I was wondering if you can help him. Do you have any cases like this? I also, would like to understand better your approach. Is it nutrition and vitamins? He’s tried cleanings and detox but it has not made a difference on his pain at all. Looking forward to hearing back from you.Best, Kica Flossie: Since the first time I heard you on Allison Melody's podcast Food Heals, I have been hooked to your podcasts. Your story is extremely inspiring and you have a wealth of knowledge. Your story inspired me to write my book "Village Vibes" on my story on reversing an autoimmune disease. I am looking to raise up my low Vitamin D levels of 18 that was recently tested to the recommended 50 -70. What are your recommendations especially because I have a history of HTN. Thank you Flossie Carla: Hey Dr Cabral, thank you so much for everything that you do. Well all truly appreciate your dedication to help others. My question is regarding my husband, he’s 30 (pitta body type) and EXTREMELY fidgety. I’ve never met anyone as fidgety as he is and it is extremely irritating not only for the people around him but for himself as well. He has done various 21 day functional medicine detox and has just finished month 3 of the CBO finisher after completing the CBO. He takes the daily foundational protocol level 3 every single day with the additional of balanced zinc, full spectrum magnesium and adrenal soothe. His nutrition is based on your recommendations and he exercises more days than not. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks! Arthur: I believe I've been suffering from mercury poisoning, from my 12 amalgam fillings, most of my life. I mean suffering. I've recently had half of them safely removed (SMART) and the rest soon. Mercury in my blood was at 11, but I feel there is a lot of mercury in my cells and it has started affecting my organs and especially my brain. I need a detox program. I'm a little worried about doing it wrong. So, where should I start? Researchers from the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Heidelberg, Germany, report in the September issue of the online, peer-reviewed journal Nutrients, an association between vitamin D deficiency and the severity/mortality of COVID-19 – which, they say, highlighs the need for interventional studies on vitamin D supplementation in SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals. The study - "Vitamin D Deficiency and Outcome of COVID-19" – said the clinical features of this SARS coronavirus can vary from those people, who present with no symptoms, to those people with upper respiratory tract symptoms, and patients with severe lung injury – yielding inflammation, multiorgan failure, and a fatal outcome. At present, there is no causal treatment for COVID-19, according to the study. Age, male gender, and underlying comorbidities, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular and lung disease, have been associated with a severe COVID outcome. The patient population of this investigational study included 185, “consecutive symptomatic SARS-CoV-2-positive patients admitted to the Medical University Hospital Heidelberg, who were enrolled onto a prospective, non-interventional register. Included in the analysis were patients diagnosed and treated between 18 March and 18 June 2020, who had consented to study participation and had serum samples available for analysis.”The Germans point to a controversial association of a low vitamin D status with increased susceptibility to infectious disease. They reference the fact that the active form of vitamin D3, also known as calcitriol, is a “pluripotent” (capable of differentiating into one of many cell types) hormone, and an important modulator of both innate and adaptive immunity. The serum level of total 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) is commonly used to assess individual vitamin D status. The German researchers defined vitamin D deficiency, as serum total 25-hydroxyvitamin D level < 12 ng/mL (nanograms per milliliter of blood). The study patients were screened and diagnosed for the SARS-CoV-2 infection based on recognized diagnostic procedures and standards. The patient’s vitamin D status was assessed at the time of first presentation - using accredited laboratory methods. As noted in the study, “the decision for inpatient versus outpatient admission was based on the level of spontaneous oxygen saturation (SpO2 ≤ 93%), comorbidities, and the overall performance status.’With regard to established COVID-19 severity classifications, “all inpatients had severe disease, oxygen saturation ≤ 93% at rest, or critical disease – stated as respiratory failure, requiring mechanical ventilation, septic shock, or other organ dysfunction, or failure that requires intensive care.”From an outpatient standpoint, symptomatic disease presented with fever, cough, sore throat, myalgia, and/or fatigue. Outpatients, as noted, were visited in their home quarantine on a regular basis and their clinical conditions were regularly evaluated. In all cases, appropriate treatment modalities and care was administered. The researchers reported that, “the present study demonstrates an association between VitD deficiency and severity of COVID-19. VitD-deficient patients had a higher hospitalization rate, and required more (intensive) oxygen therapy and IMV (invasive mechanical ventilation).”“In our patients, when adjusted for age, gender, and comorbidities, VitD deficiency was associated with a 6-fold higher hazard of severe course of disease and a ~15-fold higher risk of death,” commented the Germans. The Germans stated, “prospective, randomized controlled studies on VitD supplementation in SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals are highly warranted.”Read the rest on Mackieshilstone.com

Researchers from the Department of Medicine and Center for Health and the Social Sciences, University of Chicago, reported in the September 3rd. 2020 online edition of JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) Network Open that, “in this single-center, retrospective, cohort study, likely deficient vitamin D status was associated with increased COVID-19 risk, a finding that suggests that randomized trials may be needed to determine whether vitamin D affects COVID-19 risk.”Vitamin D deficiency affects roughly half of the US population—with higher deficiency rates in people of darker skin or reduced sun exposure, which included people residing at higher latitudes. According to the Illinois researchers, “vitamin D treatment has been found to decrease other viral respiratory infections, especially in persons with vitamin D deficiency.”The study—"The Association of Vitamin D Status and Other Clinical Characteristics with Covid-19 Test Results"–included data taken from 4314 patients, who were tested from March 3 to April 10, 2020. Patients were considered vitamin D deficient, if their most recent serum D level within one year before their first Covid-19 tests, was less than 20 ng/mL (25-hydroxycholecalciferol) or their 1,25 vitamin D status was less than 18 pg/mL.“Vitamin D3 dosing was defined, based on most recent daily dose recorded over the past year, excluding the 14 days before testing: none, 1 to 1000 IU or a multivitamin, 2000 IU, or greater than or equal to 3000 IU. Indicators for treatment with vitamin D2 and calcitriol were also included,” commented the study authors.Based on assessments, the patient were assigned to 1 of 4 categories, which reflected their likelihood of being vitamin D deficient at the time of COVID-19 testing: “likely deficient (last level deficient and treatment not increased), likely sufficient (last level not deficient and treatment not decreased), and 2 groups with uncertain deficiency (last level deficient and treatment increased, and last level not deficient and treatment decreased).”The researchers said, “our results raise the consideration of whether treatment for vitamin D deficiency is associated with reductions in the risk of COVID-19, since vitamin D deficiency may be increased by many factors that could be associated with COVID-19 risk, including age, obesity, diabetes, and chronic illness.”That conclusion led to the comment that, “the low costs of vitamin D and its general safety, at least at doses of up to 4000 IU per day, support arguments for population-level supplementation, perhaps for targeting groups at high risk for vitamin D deficiency and/or COVID-19.”Before you decide to supplement with vitamin D beyond what is found in a multi-vitamin/mineral formulation, it's best to check with your personal physician, who can order a vitamin D lab test, to ascertain your status—yielding appropriate intake guidelines.

Coronavirus and Low Vitamin D Levels - Is There An Increased Risk? | Podcast #286 Podcast Transcription: https://justinhealth.com/coronavirus-and-low-vitamin-d-levels-is-there-an-increased-risk-podcast-286/ Get Show Updates Here: http://justinhealth.com/beyondwellness-newsletter You-tube Podcast Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=justinhealth Recommended glandular support: http://www.justinhealth.com/ancestral Schedule a FREE Consult: http://www.justinhealth.com/free-consultation We know that Coronavirus is causing a lot of inflammation in the lungs, so Dr. J is looking at HOW we can help quench that inflammation, and how to address low Vitamin D levels. Dr. Justin Marchegiani is honing in on antioxidants, Vitamin C, glutathione (which will help with electrolytes), and Vitamin D as an immunomodulator (which gives us a better, more intelligent immune response). And what lowers our Vitamin D levels? Lack of sunlight is a big one. If you've been indoors almost 24/7, you're probably not getting enough Vitamin D and this is crucial for physical and mental health. The Coronavirus cannot survive outside in direct sunlight with at least 40% humidity for more than a minute, so going out into your own backyard or walking along the sidewalk while keeping six feet away from any passerbys won't hurt you, it'll help you get in some Vitamin D, get some fresh air into those lungs, increase your physical movement, and more! Dr. J and Dr. Evan Brand also look at Coronavirus case fatality by age, lending us more perspective to help lessen stress. Still, Dr. J encourages you to try and get in the foundational nutrients and minerals to strengthen your immune system: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D (5000 IUs), glutathione or NaC, and Zinc (30-50mg/day). ===================================== Subscribe on I-Tunes: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com/itunes Review us at: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com/itunes Visit us at: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com Have a question: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com/question
Host: Elizabeth Esty, MD. At this point, with so many of the studies we’ve digested exploring correlations, associations, observational studies and anecdotal reports and speculation, we could subtitle the show: what we don’t know about COVID. And so, today, we’ll look at what we don’t know about Vitamin D and COVID. There have been a number of studies and a fair amount of media coverage in recent weeks that look at a possible link between low Vitamin D levels and severity of COVID. Vitamin D plays a role in both adaptive and innate immunity, which we discussed at some length in our episode on the BCG vaccine and COVID. Macrophages starved for Vitamin D can’t produce peroxide to kill microbes, and some of the toll-like receptors crucial to innate immunity that recognize pathogen molecules don't work right without Vitamin D. Finally, Vitamin D modulates the immune response, preventing release of too many cytokines. The potential for Vitamin D to play a role in preventing severe COVID-19 seems plausible, but what does the science say? Research By: Elizabeth Esty and Nathan Novotny. This is a solo episode. My ravings will address some thoughts on the relaxing of the constraints on our daily lives and possibly a country that we can analyze to predict what will happen as result: Sweden. I am optimistic.COVID-19 statistics and connections between virus risk and gender, race, age and co-morbidities. Also, the darker your skin, the higher the risk of COVID-19 death. The statistics thus far are frightening. Many light skinned people have co-morbidities like our darker brethren; but we have less melanin thus absorb more UV B light. Could this be at least one part of the increased virus risk: Low Vitamin D levels.https://www.foundmyfitness.com/ Dr. Rhonda Patrickhttps://www.youtube.com/user/Campbellteaching Dr. John Campbellhttps://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Worldmeters
Question: Would a seasonally low vitamin D intake and high calcium intake cause soft tissue calcification? Chris: Yeah, okay. The end of this question is would the calcium simply be excreted due to the low vitamin D levels. Your vitamin D level being low, the first thing that's going to do and the major thing that's going to do is it's going to lower your calcium absorption. You would have more calcium excreted in the feces as a result of not absorbing it if your vitamin D level is low. However, a high enough calcium intake is going to more than compensate for that. It depends how low it is. If you live in northern Michigan and you're not supplementing with vitamin D in the winter, but you're outdoors a lot, your vitamin D is probably not going like rickets level low. It's probably dipping a bit. A calcium intake of 2,000 milligrams is so high that you're probably absorbing at least enough calcium. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Aaron: My wife's friend was in a motorcycle accident and has spinal cord damage that left her paralyzed. I'm looking for any naturopathic, ayurvedic, or "woo-woo" modalities that have evidence based practice for nerve repair. Several searches on your podcasts have come up with no results (the closest being to run tests to discover cause of Huntingtons). I've seen video of Chinese practitioners eliminating a tumor while being viewed with ultrasound, and heard of similar miracles that seem to be faith based. I'm a little more "practical" but open to possibilty. Mantras? Herbs? Laser therapy? ANY info appreciated! Desiree: Hello again, I've read that salivary amylase becomes inactive in stomach acid and also that part of the reason the pancreas releases bicarbonate into the duodenum is to create the correct pH environment for the enzymes to function. I know it takes a little while for stomach acid to actually saturate the food so the amylase can remain active in the stomach for 30 minutes or so. Are there enzymes that can function in stomach acid? When taking a digestive enzyme supplement, do these all become inactive when saturated with stomach acid? 2nd question:I've heard on a podcast that freeze dried probiotics become reactivated by absorbing the moisture around them and that if you take them with a meal that they can end up absorbing bile or stomach acid that is present for digesting food which ends up killing the bacteria. Is this accurate? If so, can you explain why the CBO is still effective even though all the probiotics are taken with a meal? Dimitri: Hey Dr.Cabral, thank you for the constant inspiration and sharing of your knowledge with the world. I am a 21 year old college student currently IHP level 1 certified and working on level 2 along with my NASM certification. As you did in your early 20’s, I have aspirations to build my physique as big and strong as I can for the next few years. If you could give suggestions on the most optimal way to do so that would be great. I just watched your podcast with Ben Pakulski and feel like I could use a more definitive or specific answer to 1) protein intake for optimal muscle growth but also not too far. 2)training frequency. 3) how to optimize gut function when taking in higher amounts of calories and more specifically protein.Again, thank you so much Dr. Cabral Samantha: Dear Dr Cabral, I have been listening to your podcasts for about 3 hours per day lately and driving my husband nuts lol. I have been to more doctors than you possibly could imagine, spent more money than you possibly could imagine and have had more tests run than yes, even you could possibly imagine. :) While I have yet to solve my issues I just know for a fact that these protocols are where I am going to finally heal and feel like myself again. I am 41 years old and from the outside seem to others to be a very healthy, fit and active person. What most don't realize is I'm hanging on by a teeny tiny thread. My initial diagnosis was chronic fatigue syndrome post pregnancy. I was given Prozac to help with my "post partum depression." I didn't feel depressed. I felt tired! My journey since then has been a long one since my son will be 12 this month but here's what I know. Currently I'm being treated for Thyroid Issues (tsh and conversion problems), Low Testosterone, Low Vitamin D, I also take spirolactone for hair loss and edema. I take vyvanse for adhd. It helps me to "get out of bed." I realize this is so wrong but it's my band aid and my crutch for now. All the Medicine I'm taking for each problem isn't working. I'm more anxious than ever, I have horrific foggy brain and am running off of nervous energy. I also have: Poor circulation, Low Progesterone, Gluten intolerance, H Pylori, parasites, Leaky Gut, alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation, hemorrhoids, bloated stomach. I can go from looking like I have washboard abs to 9 months pregnant instantly, I have a sugar addiction and thus yeast candida. I cannot sleep at night and need to take Xanax to sleep otherwise I can't sleep at all. I am the type that loves to go all out, no pain no gain. I am balancing that with things like restorative yoga, breathing exercises and acupuncture. There's not a doubt in my mind that I need to order every single protocol you have. I already ordered the 21 day detox. Can you give your recommendation to people out there who need all of them? Is it best to start with the detox (7, 14, or 21?)? Then move onto which protocol? I am not concerned with the supplement cost so anything you can recommend would be greatly appreciated.Thank you so much for what you do. You truly are healing the world.Sincerely,Samantha Rachael:Hi Dr. Cabral. This is a 2 part question. I’ve been trying to drink more water, currently I drink a cup or 2 a day. I’m very rarely thirsty, I don’t drink a lot of other drinks either but I do have a cup of soda almost everyday. The first question is how can I drink more water when I never feel thirsty? Sometimes the thought of forcing myself to drink makes me gag. The other question is, every time I increase my water, even by a cup, I get splitting migraines. This happens if I drink the soda with increased water so I don’t think it is coffee/sugar withdrawal. Why does this keep happening to me? I feel as though I will never get passed drink 1 or 2 cups of water day + a soda. In this episode, Shan interviews Dr Samanta Nagpal, a consultant psychiatrist with the NHS and host of 'The Therapy Suite' with UK Health Radio. Today, we highlight the importance of maintaining brain health and function. According to Dr Nagpal, we can prevent (and combat) many mental health ailments through mindfulness, nutrition and exercise. Being mindful is a powerful skill which can be done anywhere regardless of whatever you’re doing. Certain nutritional deficiencies can also result to illness that can improve once recognised and addressed. Discover also how your gut bacteria is linked to mental health and why exercising should be done no matter how busy life gets.. KEY TAKEAWAYS According to World Health Organisation (WHO), depression and heart disease will be among the most common illnesses in 2020. When we or anything in our environment undergo a sudden stressful change, our body’s adrenal glands release cortisol, the stress hormone. High levels of cortisol can result to anxiety, depression, fatigue, etc. Stress resilience can be practised through: Mindfulness Healthy Diet Exercise Mindfulness does not clear your thoughts; it helps you become present and aware. “Observe your thoughts and allow them to pass. Don’t give them energy.” Mental health issues can sometimes be linked to nutritional deficiencies: Low B12 and folate is associated with depression and poor cognition. Magnesium is an element which can be found in leafy greens, seeds, and fibre-rich carbohydrates. Deficiency of magnesium has been linked with depression and anxiety. Low iodine can cause thyroid problems and subsequent mood changes. Low Vitamin D has recently been linked to autism. Omega-3, an essential fatty acid which can be found in fish oil, can treat and prevent depression. Gut bacteria can play a role in supporting our mood and mental state. The more diverse the bacteria are, the heathier the gut is. Exercising might be a difficult habit to fit in our daily schedule if you’re too busy, but it can prevent and improve many different mental illnesses. BEST MOMENTS “As psychiatrists, we’re taught to look at the person not just the illness.” “Lives are different these days. Pressures are different, expectations are different. People’s finances are not in the way they used to be.” “When we’re stressed, we make poor choices.” “Mindfulness might bring stuff from the past. But that’s good, just let it go.” “Exercise is a natural antidepressant. It can boost the natural 'happy hormones' – serotonin, dopamine, and adrenaline.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Move Nourish Change UK Health Radio ABOUT THE GUEST Dr Samanta Nagpal is a consultant psychiatrist working in the NHS. Did you know that having low Vitamin D levels can increase your risk for type 2 diabetes? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young medical minute. Vitamin D is known to help with bone development and strength, but new research out of University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Seoul National University suggests that it can also decrease your chances of type 2 diabetes. The 2 year study started with 903 healthy adults. The participants gave multiple blood samples, to check their Vitamin D levels. A 20 year follow up showed 47 of the 903 adults had type 2 diabetes. 337 participants were found to be prediabetic. The participants with lower Vitamin D in the earlier study developed trouble with their blood sugar later in life. It's important to have your Vitamin D levels checked yearly and keep your level at 60 or greater. [Read the Article] About 42 percent of the general U.S. population has low vitamin D levels. In addition to promoting calcium and bone health, vitamin D may also affect the brain and cognitive function. A new study by JAMA Neurology looked at the association between baseline vitamin D levels and the rate of cognitive decline in a group of ethnically diverse older adults. A researcher from Rutgers University, along with colleagues from the University of California Davis, studied 382 older adults with an average age of 75. Among the group, 61 percent of participants were women, 41 percent white, about 30 percent were African American and 25 percent were Hispanic. At study enrollment, about 18 percent had dementia, 33 percent had mild cognitive impairment and half were cognitively normal. Vitamin D levels and cognitive function were measured at baseline. Cognitive function was also followed in 318 of the participants for an average of 5 years. Researchers found:- About 60 percent of the group, regardless of their race or ethnicity, was low in vitamin D.- Vitamin D levels were lower for African American and Hispanics, compared with their white counterparts.- …

Imagine that you are an experienced mother of 4 and have a new baby with a medical condition that predisposes her to fractures? You have all the medical evidence for EDS, low Vitamin D, expert opinions but the state comes in a KIDNAPS all your 5 children!!! What would you do?!! On Monday, 6/15/15, at 8PM eastern, Dr. Jess Armine interviews Rebecca Wanosik. A few weeks after her birth, Rebecca took her daughter to see her regular pediatrician because she could feel her baby’s ribs “popping and cracking” when she touched her back. The pediatrician told the worried mother that the baby was perfectly healthy and not to be concerned about the noise. The baby later developed arm pain. A worried mother took her 2-month-old daughter to a doctor, looking for an answer to the baby’s mysterious arm pain. Little did she know, she would be leaving the hospital that day without her children, accused of child abuse. Subsequently, ALL of her children were kidnapped by the state of Missouri. With all the evidence the doctors refused to listen to Rebecca and they allegedly did not believe that her vitamin D levels had anything to do with her daughter’s bones, then accused the parents of abuse and took their children. I have reviewed and confirmed the evidence myself. This should not be allowed! Join us as Rebecca tells her story and learn about EDS, low Vitamin D and the genetics that can predispose your child to a similar situation (I am told that Sterling Hill may make a cameo appearence to share with us about the relevant genetics...shhh! Its only a rumor) See you then! Dr. Jess ;-)

The main ways our bodies age are through the mechanisms of drying up, burning up, turn to stone and we rust. Drying up is through dehydration and the deficiency of certain minerals. We burn up through the process of inflammation. We deposit Calcium into our arteries and we turn to stone. Lastly, we rust through oxidative stress. Our bodies are inflamed for a number of reasons. We are exposed to so many environmental toxins that are aggravating inflammation in our body. We are eating more and more GMOs that cause inflammation and we're not eating foods that are naturally anti-inflammatory. The healthy consumption of good oils helps reduce inflammation. You also need to eat a nutrient-dense diet and if you're not then you need to make sure you supplement your diet. Most people are deficient in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, which decrease inflammation. Triton Nutrition's Omega Prime Fish Oil contains 950mg per capsule. The fish oil is isolated from small cold-water fish under the polar ice cap, which are more pure than large fish, which usually absorb more toxins. Omega 3-Fatty Acid consumption can reduce a number of inflammatory markers like hs-CRP (high-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein) as well as many other areas in the body. It inhibits a cascade of cytokines or eicosanoids that can aggravate inflammation. The more we train, the more fatty acids are required. Those who are on certain medications that deplete their fatty acids or those with certain diseases such as diabetes also require more of these Omega-3 Fatty Acids. These Omega-3 Fatty Acids also lower triglycerides and help balance cholesterol levels. Another product that reduces inflammation is the D3 Ultra Drops. Vitamin D deficiency is rampant here in the United States. The Harvard School of Public Health states that the best benefits of 25-hydroxy vitamin D is seen in the 70-90 ranges. Vitamin D below 50 is associated with insomnia. Low Vitamin D means that there is an increased production of inflammatory cytokines like IL-6, IL-17, TNF alpha. Vitamin D drops are relatively inexpensive. D3 Ultra Drops are 1200 units per drop and because it is miscellized it is highly absorbable. Immune Boost Spray is an isolated form of colostrum produced from grass-fed, organically raised cows. PRPs are extracted from this colostrum. Dr. Andrew Keech's Peptide Immunotherapy book emphasizes the importance of colostrum and the proline-rich polypeptides (PRPs). These PRPs balance the process of inflammation and balance a healthy immune system. This is very important in times of autoimmune diseases like Lupus and Scleroderma. For more information on the benefits of PRPs please see the article Viruses and the Advantages of PRPs. by Robert Seik, PharmD
