CHRISTIAN-ISH 1 of 5 The Trap of Comfortable Christianity
Swindon Church's homegroup-based vision offers a return to the biblical foundation of church life, emphasising discipleship, fellowship, and authentic faith over cultural or Sunday Christianity. By rejecting passive religious traditions and prioritising daily spiritual growth, this vision encourages deep community, accountability, and mission-driven faith. As society moves further into an era where institutional religion is losing influence, churches like Swindon Church provide a compelling alternative: a vibrant, engaged, and transformative Christian community that reflects the heart of the early church.

In this podcast episode, Tim introduces Oliver as a guest and they dive into Oliver's journey of faith. Oliver shares his experiences growing up in an emotionally abusive home and battling depression, until a friend's mother introduced him to the gospel. This encounter led Oliver to pursue full-time ministry and attend seminary, but he felt something was missing in traditional church settings. This led him to start the "Keeping it Real" podcast, where he challenges the superficiality of institutional churches and promotes authenticity and vulnerability. Oliver emphasizes the importance of addressing topics like depression and addiction and connecting with listeners on a deeper level. He encourages male listeners to prioritize Jesus and break free from negative influences. -- Title [00:00:35] Oliver's Journey of Faith Oliver shares his experience of growing up in an emotionally abusive home, battling depression, and finding faith in Jesus. Comfort is, well, comfortable. It feels safe, secure, it's easy. But is it what you're pursuing instead of Jesus? If so, please listen. Pastor Danny will tell you today that it's time to shift your priorities. God wants to do something in your life, something big. He wants to use you to share love and hope with the world. In a way that is unique to you, but you will never know what that is if you don't set the time aside to talk with him about it. It might be time to set aside some comfort for the kingdom.
As with each church in the beginning of Revelation, there is a profound lesson to be found in today's message. Pastor Danny will be talking about Laodicea, the church that was considered lukewarm. Basically they were comfortable Christians. These people had given their lives to Jesus but that was it. There wasn't the passion or deep pursuit of the relationship. You can probably see examples of that today but don't let that example be you. As Pastor Danny will share, God doesn't tolerate it forever.

The Bible is full of amazing truth we should apply to our lives. But too many of us misunderstand what God intended for us to apply and have ended up with some pretty twisted theology. In this series – we'll explore some of the biggest ways we twist and misunderstand Scripture.

This message takes a look at the current culture and spiritual atmosphere in the United States and looks forward to what Christians and the church might expect moving ahead. Will the current compartmentalized, compromised, cultural and comfortable Christianity that is so prevalent in America today flourish or flounder when faced with opposition or even persecution? Was Christianity ever meant to be "comfortable" in the first place? We examine the Apostle Paul and the early churches example as well as the words of Jesus concerning what it might actually look like to live out his call to "Love the Lord your God with all you heart, soul, mind and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself". In a day where so many want to redefine Christianity into some type of self-help religious parachute - Jesus' words warn that we had better count the cost because to truly follow him will cost everything. When we look around our nation today, it is easy for Christ followers to be discouraged, but have no fear, the church is right where God wants her to be - the real question is will Christians repent and submit to the power of the Holy Spirit and get out of the way to allow Him to Shine? From Luke 14:25-35.
The Lord is calling His Church into a ‘New Era’. As the Body of Christ enters into 2021 — Denise shares how we, as the body, need to do away with comfortable Christianity. There’s a fire and boldness coming upon His people. Denise reveals more depth to Isaiah’s throne room encounter and how we, as believers, are called to a higher level of holiness in the body of Christ. As sons and daughters, we have access to the Father through Holy Spirit. Take time and get to know Him, He’ll change your life and you'll impact lives around you.
How broken are you? How comfortable are you with how things are in your life? These questions, and many more, need to be asked more often. Jesus didn't teach that pain and suffering are the only way to heaven, but He did teach that "foxes have dens, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head" (Luke 9:57-58). We would be remiss to allow or encourage a false Gospel claiming that faithfulness will result in God 'taking care' of us. Too much is dependent on you getting comfortable being uncomfortable. Today we'll talk about why. We are so glad you joined us today for this important message of redirection. No rights are reserved: share this message of hope and life with those who need it. Help point people to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Scriptures today: Galatians 1:6-9 // Galatians 1:10 // Matthew 16:24 // Luke 14:27 // John 15:20 // 2 Timothy 3:12 // Luke 9:57-58 // Luke 14:26 // Matthew 19:21 // Galatians 2:20 // Matthew 3:8-9 // Matthew 7:21-23 // Matthew 7:24-29 // Revelation 3:15-22 // Matthew 23:37-38
You cannot be what you do not see. You cannot change what you do not touch. You cannot heal what you will not lay a hand on. If you intend to be Kingdom residence, it is time to say bye bye to comfortable Christianity. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jack-barrow-iii/message

Comfortable Christianity by Hancock Assembly of God
Joe and Jimmy talk about the danger of "comfortable Christianity." How is comfort potentially at odds with the nature of the Christian life in the world? The Jesus Church is an uncomfortable church. Discomfort is the natural result of simple obedience to Jesus. Comfortable Christianity is not an accurate reflection of the church Jesus gave His life for. Acts 8 gives us a glimpse of our history as the Jesus Church, as a church that endured suffering for the sake of love.

Our culture craves and promotes comfort at all costs. It's not that comfort is a bad thing, but could it become dangerous to have too much comfort? Jesus invites us to pursue the way of the cross over the way of comfort. Comfortable Christianity wasn't the primary goal for the crucified Christ. Friends, Jesus is much more interested in getting us into a growth zone than comfort zone.

Sermon on Mark 8.38-50
She had all of her “Christian” ducks in a row…. until God swept them all to the side. Jen Hatmaker was a Christian speaker and author, married to a PASTOR for heaven's sake who spent every day of her life doing the church thing and doing it well. But then, Jen prayed a prayer: “God, raise up in me a holy passion.” And that's when her whole life got completely messed up. In this episode of “So Here's the Thing” Kathi and Erin talk to Jen about her book, “Interrupted: When Jesus Wrecks Your Comfortable Christianity” and discuss how that one simple prayer led her to flip her life upside down… and do everything from serving the poor to letting HGTV invade her home. Tell us in the comments below how Jen's experience of being interrupted has inspired you to pray for a holy passion or what is keeping you in your comfortable Christianity. Two winners will be randomly chosen and will receive two copies of Interrupted.

On Sunday we looked at five reasons that the neXt generation may chose to walk away from the Christian faith:1. Compulsory Christianity – following Christ is a duty not a passion.2. Cliché Christianity – knowing the right answers, but never internalizing them. No heart change.3.Comfortable Christianity – believing that Jesus saves us from sin and for eternity, but not pursuing a relationship with Him that impacts your life today. Not enjoying an adventure, but managing your faith.4.Cocoon Christianity – being so protected that you never get to see God at work in and through you.5.Compromised Christianity – lack of integrity cast seeds of doubt in others. The Christian environment we’ve put in place to encourage our children toward a faith in Jesus could be the very thing that drives many of them away from God. Children are often driven away from a relationship with God by what we thought were the right things to do.
