What do you do when the role that defined you disappears? Many people struggle with mental health challenges not just because of trauma, stress, or anxiety—but because they've lost a sense of identity and purpose. In this episode of Normalize The Conversation, host Francesca Reicherter sits down with Jeremy Stalnecker to explore how identity, purpose, and hope shape our mental wellbeing.Jeremy shares his personal journey transitioning from the United States Marine Corps into civilian life—and the unexpected emotional struggle that followed. After leaving a career that gave him structure, mission, and identity, he found himself wrestling with the same questions many people face after major life changes: Who am I without this role? Where do I fit now? Why am I here?Together, Francesca and Jeremy unpack how identity loss can impact mental health—from military transition to career shifts, life changes, and even the pressure young adults face when figuring out who they want to become. This conversation explores:Why identity loss can feel like hopelessnessThe difference between who you are and what you doHow purpose can create resilience during difficult seasonsWhy negative environments (including social media) shape our self-perceptionHow community, mentors, and self-reflection help us rediscover meaningJeremy also shares practical ways to begin reconnecting with your sense of purpose—from identifying your strengths to asking meaningful questions about what motivates and energizes you.If you've ever felt lost, uncertain about your future, or disconnected from your sense of purpose, this episode offers a compassionate and grounded perspective on how to move forward. Because mental health isn't just about managing thoughts—it's also about finding meaning in the life you're living.
Jeremy Stalnecker is the CEO of the Mighty Oaks Foundation and a former platoon commander in the Marine Corps. He served in Iraq and now works with first responders and military personnel who are suffering from PTSD. This podcast is well worth the listen and time.
Ryan Ackerman did three combat tours with 1st Battalion 5th Marines, the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the first push into Fallujah in 2004, and a return to Ramadi. Then he came home. "It was a roller coaster ride without a seatbelt." In this conversation, Ryan tells Jeremy Stalnecker, his brother from the same battalion, what it took to come back from absolute rock bottom. The lying to himself. The running. The career on paper that was hiding everything underneath. And the moment he finally stopped. This is a conversation about what every man avoids until he can't anymore: the truth about who he is when the uniform comes off, the title fades, or the season of life ends. And why the only way back is through. What happens when the uniform comes off and the identity you built underneath it goes with it? Marine Scout Sniper Dagan Van Oosten sat down with Jeremy Stalnecker, his platoon commander from the 2003 push into Iraq, and opened up about the moment a counselor asked him a question that hit "like a bolt of lightning" "If you died tomorrow, what would your tombstone say?" In this episode of The March or Die Show, Dagan walks through his journey as a Marine sniper in 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, three-plus years instructing at Quantico Sniper School, 14 years in federal contracting, training the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team, and the painful realization that the institution he'd given everything to was never going to love him back the way he loved it. He gets honest about the marriage he almost wrecked chasing the mission, the brother-in-law (Justice Bartelt) the family lost in Afghanistan, the fear of leaving the uniform behind, and what it took to reset his identity around three words: husband, father, friend. Whether you're an active-duty service member, a first responder, a veteran in transition, or anyone whose job has become their identity, this conversation will give you a roadmap for the chapter after the chapter you can't imagine ending. Every man is one choice away from stupid. Jim Ramos, bestselling author and host of the #1 Christian men's podcast Men in the Arena, sits down with Jeremy Stalnecker to talk about the guardrails every man needs to protect his marriage, why Gen Z men are filling churches in record numbers, and what it looks like when Christian leaders fall. Jim shares a story about the time the Holy Spirit quoted John Wayne to him in the middle of a counseling session and the lesson that came out of it changed the way he approaches every relationship in his life. He also reveals what's happening on college football fields across the country: 90 athletes praying in the end zone before games, teammates baptizing each other on the 15-yard line, and a generation of young men who are hungry for something real. When war dominates the headlines, parents are left asking an important question: How do we talk to our kids about it? In this episode of March or Die, Jeremy Stalnecker shares practical and biblical principles for guiding young people through confusing and frightening global events. Drawing from his experience as a Marine who lived through the wars following 9/11, Jeremy explains why moments of global conflict can become powerful opportunities for parents to teach their children about courage, faith, and moral clarity. Rather than avoiding difficult conversations, parents can use them to help their kids understand fear, the reality of evil in the world, and the responsibility we have to stand for what is right. This conversation explores how parents can alleviate fear, explain why conflict exists, and demonstrate a faith-filled response when the world seems chaotic. Jeremy also discusses the importance of teaching children the difference between necessary and unnecessary violence, why standing against evil matters, and how faith in God provides stability even in uncertain times. Ultimately, the goal is not just to help kids understand today’s headlines, but to prepare them for the battles they will face in their own lives. If you are raising the next generation in a confusing world, this episode will help you equip them with truth, courage, and faith. When the mission ends, the questions often begin. Jeremy Stalnecker spent years building his identity around service, leadership, and responsibility as a United States Marine infantry officer. But when combat ended and the uniform came off, Jeremy found himself facing a different kind of battle, one marked by anger, isolation, loss of identity, and a quiet belief that he was completely alone. This episode traces Jeremy's journey from combat leadership to personal collapse, and ultimately to clarity. Through painful self-reflection, accountability, faith, and community, Jeremy discovered that the wounds carried after service are not signs of weakness, they are invitations to heal. His story speaks to anyone who has ever lost their sense of purpose after a major life transition and wondered if hope was still possible. Guest Bio Jeremy Stalnecker is the CEO of the Mighty Oaks Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping military service members, veterans, first responders, and their families heal from the unseen wounds of trauma, including PTSD. In 2003, Jeremy deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where his unit breached the berm separating Kuwait and Iraq and helped secure Baghdad. Following his return from combat, Jeremy transitioned into full-time ministry, serving first as an Assistant Pastor at Coastline Baptist Church in Oceanside, California, and later as Senior Pastor of Bay Area Baptist Church in Fremont, California. In 2015, he joined Mighty Oaks full time, uniting his military experience and ministry calling to help others find healing, identity, and purpose after trauma. In this episode of Finding Freedom, host John Odermatt sits down with Jeremy Stalnecker, former US Marine Corps infantry officer, combat veteran, and executive director of Mighty Oaks Foundation. Jeremy shares his journey from leading Marines during the 2003 invasion of Iraq to struggling with identity loss after leaving the military, and ultimately finding purpose through faith-based veteran support work. The conversation explores how military service creates a deeply ingrained identity that can leave veterans lost when they transition to civilian life, often leading to anger, isolation, and even suicidal thoughts. Jeremy explains how Mighty Oaks Foundation addresses the root cause—identity crisis—rather than just treating symptoms, helping over 7,000 veterans, first responders, and their spouses rebuild their lives on a foundation of faith and purpose. The discussion covers leadership principles from Jeremy's book "Leadership by Design," emphasizing that true leadership is about serving others and helping them reach their potential, not about rank or authority. Jeremy advocates for a holistic approach to veteran care that combines clinical therapies with spiritual foundation, arguing that without clarity on identity and purpose, other interventions fall short. The episode concludes with information on how Mighty Oaks provides free five-day programs and ongoing aftercare to help those struggling with post-traumatic stress and transition challenges. Dave Grossman, author of On Killing, On Combat, and co-author of On Spiritual Combat, to discuss the psychology of combat, the spiritual battle facing our nation, and the responsibility of men and women to stand as protectors in their homes and communities. From his experience as an Army Ranger and West Point psychology professor to his pioneering work in “killology,” Grossman unpacks: - Why preparation, realistic preparation, determines survival- The difference between PTSD and post-traumatic growth- The hidden epidemic of sleep deprivation and its connection to suicide- Why fasting builds spiritual and mental resilience- What it truly means to be a “sheepdog”- Why prayer is the ultimate weapon in spiritual warfare This conversation bridges combat psychology, spiritual discipline, and practical leadership for men who refuse to drift and choose instead to march. What happens when a professional athlete, police officer, and MMA fighter is suddenly forced to "crawl" forward? For the last several months, Sean Kennard has been fighting a battle with no name. Losing nearly 50lbs to a mystery illness while doctors offer no answers. In this raw and honest episode of the March or Die show, Jeremy Stalnecker and Sean Kennard pull back the curtain on the "sacred space" of suffering that most of our culture tries to avoid at all costs. The hardest truth? A faith that has not been tested is a faith that cannot be trusted. We often believe God is only good when He answers our earthly pleas, but true intimacy is found when everything else is stripped away and all you have left is the ability to cry out to the Lord. If you are currently in a season of uncertainty, learn why clarity is not required for faith and why the lack of it might be exactly what you need to please God. In this episode of Thinking Christian, Dr. James Spencer explores what it means to live faithfully in increasingly secular spaces—from youth sports and public education to workplace dynamics and political culture. Drawing from personal reflection and current cultural trends, Dr. Spencer challenges listeners to reconsider what Christian influence really looks like in a pluralistic society. Rather than grasping for control, he calls believers to embrace a posture of witness—anchored in Scripture, driven by discernment, and shaped by hope in Christ. Whether you’re a parent navigating public schools, a coach facing ethical tensions in youth sports, or a believer feeling squeezed by culture wars, this episode offers a thoughtful framework for living out the gospel with clarity and grace. Faith isn’t about feelings. Too many believers give up because they don’t feel close to God, thinking their faith is gone. But the Bible is clear: faith is a decision, not an emotion. In this episode of March or Die, Jeremy Stalnecker and Sean Kennard break down the reality that faith is built on trust, obedience, and discipline not fleeting emotions. Drawing from Hebrews 11, they explore how biblical heroes like Abraham, Moses, and Noah lived by faith even when emotions weren’t on their side. Whether you’re in a spiritual “dry season,” wrestling with doubt, or feeling far from God, this conversation will help you take the next step forward. “The design is that men would be protectors, leaders, providers” yet our culture seems determined to erase that calling through a war on masculinity. In this March or Die episode, Jeremy Stalnecker and Sean Kennard expose the spiritual and cultural war on masculinity, trace its roots back to Genesis, and show why fatherless homes, rising violence, and confusion about gender roles are no accident. More than analysis, they deliver a roadmap: accept God-given responsibility, lead with sacrificial humility, surround yourself with brothers who sharpen you, and start right where you are imperfect but present. Whether you’re a husband, dad, single man, or a woman who cares about the men in her life, you’ll find truth, encouragement, and practical steps to stand in the gap. Watch, share, and join the movement to build men who march forward instead of staying where they are and dying.
