Foreigners at War 1 Peter 2:11-17 Teacher: Brent Buttermore, Missions, Outreach, & Kids Pastor at Oak Pointe Church In an effort to preserve endangered animals, scientists have created programs to breed those animals in captivity and then release them into the wild. Unfortunately, the captive-bred animals often do not survive after being released. They're not accustomed to the environment, they haven't learned enough survival skills, and they don't fear humans enough to stay away from poachers. They become foreigners in their own land. Likewise, we become foreigners and aliens when we bear the name of Christ. We look, act, and think differently. There is a great temptation to blend in and ease the strain, however Peter reminds us that Jesus has paved the way for us to live joyfully as foreigners as we await our true home. Join us tomorrow for a time of equipping and encouraging in the Word.

What keeps people out of the Kingdom of God? Mistakes? Pride? Continual sinning? No, there are plenty of examples in Jesus' ministry of people who did all of those things and more but were forgiven and accepted into the kingdom. Jesus did, however, point out certain people that would have a hard time entering the kingdom of heaven. And when he did that, the disciples, in amazement and disbelief said, “Who then can be saved?” According to Jesus, part of the problem is our human tendency to compare and compete with each other. We think there has to be a pecking order. Surely someone has to be greatest in the kingdom! But what if Jesus' criterion for who is in the kingdom makes us uneasy? It certainly made the disciples uneasy. Pastor Mike Leno explores the stories of Jesus blessing the children and turning away the Rich Young Ruler. In these stories Jesus tells us what sort of kingdom he is offering, and how we can get in on it. With God, all things are possible.

Karista Paredes is a soon-to-be published author, full-time Kids Pastor, and a community leader. She is an exemplar of how vulnerability can lead to breakthrough. Oftentimes on this podcast we talk about the importance of relationships. What we rarely touch on is what happens when relationships go wrong. Typically, we want to hide all of our relational problems, stow them away and pretend that everything is copacetic. But doing this will hurt us, our family, and prevent us from healing. In this episode, you can expect to hear: what to do when a relationship turns abusivewhy people stay in abusive relationshipsindicators that you should watch out forthe psychology behind why people return to toxic relationshipshow to let others into your life to help you assess your situationhow to make a strategy of leaving an abusive relationshipwhy sharing your story gives you and others powerthe key to preserving your self-worthand the one piece of advice Karista would give her younger self. THANK YOU for being here. Thanks again to Karista for sharing her story. Remember, life is better when we talk to people and live socially connected. Episode 44: We are so excited to have Terry Parkman join us again for today's episode on what it truly means to disciple this next generation. Pastor Terry explains that our world today is post modernism, post church, and post truth. This means that culture today is moving from facts and truth and toward feelings, personal desires, and sin to be their truth. In the world's view, it doesn't matter what the facts say, because you can just create your own truth. The next generation is getting taught to live this way, and we need to be equipped to truly minister to them!

We may not always think of it in these terms, but ministry is a stewardship, and your volunteers are a huge part of that stewardship. However, unlike finances and time, when it comes to our volunteers, we're talking about people. So, how do we steward people well? In today's episode of the podcast, we sit down with our friend Evan Fortunato, Kids Pastor at Grace Assembly of God in Greenwood, IN, and talk about 4 key, and measurable ways we can steward our volunteers well based on the teachings of scripture. We hope you enjoy episode 134 of the Lead Volunteers Podcast and share it with a ministry leader you know who may find this beneficial for their ministry context!
