I discuss “Cry Like A Man” by Jason Wilson in this episode. Jason shares his life story, how he overcame “emotional incarceration” and healed himself of childhood trauma. I identify with many portions of Jason's story, I also went through the bulk of my life suppressing and mismanaging my emotions. Most importantly, this book teaches men that despite gender and societal norms, it's okay to cry. Some other things we talk about: What board breaking in martial arts signifies - overcoming the emotional barriers in our lives Jason says, “When you allow a man to become whole or comprehensive, instead of just living life as a masculine male, he becomes more aware of the wrongs and the rights that he flicked on the women in his life.” Hence, it's essential to teach the men in our lives that it's okay to cry, to express, to feel so they learn to treat women the way they're supposed to. “Just be a man!” How many times have we heard this said before? The truth is, many men are hurting. The view of “tough guy” masculinity is preventing so many from expressing what is going on inside their hearts and mind. Jason Wilson experienced the murders of his two older brothers, a verbally harsh and absent father, and his mother spiralled into depression. He had been raised with one view of what it means to be a man, but his decision to acknowledge his emotions is what made him the man and leader he is today. In this podcast, Jason Wilson will help us understand how God wants men to process their emotions. Discover the power, love, and self-control it takes to cry like a man. Jason Wilson is the founder and CEO of Yunion, and he has over 14 years of experience in training and developing young black men. Under his leadership, Yunion has effectively reached more than 10,000 youth and young adults in Metro Detroit.

Gentlemen, I don’t know about you, but I am exhausted. I’m exhausted trying to keep up with the EVER CHANGING definitions of manhood. Some men say NEVER cry. Some say Cry Like A Man. Some say real men do this thing, some say real men do that thing. I got tired of the noise guys, and maybe you are too so TUNE IN TODAY, as we look at what God’s Word has to say about “acting like a man”.

Jason Wilson, author of Cry Like a Man, discusses what it means to be a man, a real man, and how he has evolved to become one. (Lurie Daniel Favors and Karen Hunter are interviewing).
The conversation was focused on ‘What Modern Masculinity’ is all about. Does being heterosexual vs being gay makes one still identify as masculine? How about male insecurities and how to approach the red and blue pill aspect of masculinity... also based the discussion on mentorship and how to pick up women as a man! “...there is no man who has been known to be proud of his insecurities and being vulnerable... men are in constant quest to show a macho-trait... no one is proud to state they have a small dick...” This is an interesting take by Rophus in expressing his though from the book ‘Cry Like A Man’. JayBlack did ask, should men prioritize emotion over reason, when identifying masculinity? As men, we are currently told it is okay to cry... do you think it is right?
The Guys Like Us Podcast is joined with Jason Wilson who is the founder and CEO of Yunion, the Cave of Adullam Transformational Training Academy (CATTA), and author of Cry Like a Man: Fighting for Freedom from Emotional Incarceration. Jason shares the inspiration behind his book and message for readers. Masculinity does not define all of being human, it’s only part of a man. “There is no such thing as toxic masculinity, I say a man becomes toxic when he only allows himself to be defined or live under the attributes of masculinity.” We dig into some of Jason’s profound experiences that have shaped his walk with Christ. At CATTA, he is more interested in sharpening each other rather than polishing. Hear more the creative and strategic language that Jason uses to rethink clichés. Finally, some advice for fathers, and for all men! You can find Jason’s book where books are sold and Jason’s latest news @mrjasonowilson on social media.
