Ingredients (to make 2 big Okonomiyaki)250 grams of dried yaki noodles or ramen noodlesOne cup of green cabbage, finally shredded2 green onions, finely choppedOne cup of snow peas washed and trimmed6 thin slices of bacon 170 grams)2 eggs1 heaped tablespoon of potato or cornstarch2/3 of a cup 80 grams of flour1/3 of a cup plus one tablespoon of dashi broth or chicken stockPLUSSunflower oil for cooking, Okonomiyaki sauce (yakisoba sauce also works) and Kewpie Mayo for servingMix the flours, starch and dashi/chicken broth until you get a smooth consistency. Refrigerate. (Remember, Chrissie insists it need to be cold!)Meanwhile cook with the noodles in boiling water according to the package instructions. Wash and finally chop the cabbage and green onions.Oil the teppanyaki stainless steel with a paper towel and heat it over medium heat. Poor half of the batter, spreading it into a pan cake shape with a spatula. Top with half of the cabbage, green onions, snow peas, and 3 slices of bacon. Cook for 3 minutesAnd the same time, next to the pancakes spread half of the cooked noodles into a circle of the same size.Cook for three minutes then flip them. Crack one egg onto the griddle and spread it out with a spatula. Once it starts to set on top, place the noodles circle over it, then cover with the flipped pan cake so the noodles are now between the egg and the bacon flip everything again to the egg is on top and cook for another three minutes. Repeat the same process for each pancake and the remaining ingredients. To serve drizzle over the economyaki sauce and Japanese (Kewpie) mayonnaise. After decades of the community being split into two rival factions, the two brothers who led the rival factions met again. But not just anywhere, but at the White House. After so much time of hurt and estrangement, the rabbis wished each other a sweet year before heading into the White House to meet with the president, Trump, and advocate on behalf of their Jewish community. This is a great time to look back at how this split happened and record some oral history. Yumi Lowy grew up Satmar and paid a lot of attention to the battles. These are his memories. As is the case with oral histories, other people will have other stories. Op een paar dagen tijd transformeerden de Hoge Venen – een populaire trekpleister – van idylle naar inferno. De grootste natuurbrand uit de recente geschiedenis legde al 3.000 hectare in de as. Nochtans wíst men van bepaalde risico's. Hoe is het zover kunnen komen? ­ De koning zakte maandag af naar de Hoge Venen, om de hulpdiensten en buurtbewoners een hart onder de riem te steken. Sinds vrijdag woedt in de streek rond de Baraque Michel een wilde veenbrand, die bij het opnemen van deze podcast nog altijd niet onder controle was. Volgens minister van Binnenlandse Zaken Bernard Quintin (MR) is het duidelijk dat "de klimaatverandering de brand heeft doen ontsporen". De kamercommissie Binnenlandse Zaken komt vervroegd bijeen. ­ Dé vraag: hoe is het zo snel kunnen escaleren? Ter plaatse zijn de mensen (nog) niet bezig met de zoektocht naar een zondenbok, vertelt collega Yumi Demeyere, die sinds zaterdag in de regio is. "Er heerst een enorme solidariteit onder de mensen en met de hulpverleners", stelt ze vast. Yumi ondervond aan den lijve hoe akelig het is als de rook met rasse schreden nadert en 's nachts de lucht verandert in een oranjerode gloed. "Ik heb mijn wekker elke twee uur laten afgaan om te kunnen vertrekken als het vuur te dichtbij zou komen." ­ ­ Nochtans komt de brand niet uit de lucht vallen, weet Lennart Fernandes van de wetenschapsredactie. De veengrond van de Hoge Venen zou de natste van België moeten zijn, maar door (bewuste) drainage is hij enorm brandbaar geworden. "Daar komt bij dat we net als in de rest van Europa deze zomer een uitzonderlijke droogte hebben meegemaakt, aangewakkerd door de klimaatverandering.
