(…and what we can do about it). Dermot Whelan and I worked together in Today FM for many years, until he made the decision to leave the Dermot and Dave show to focus on his wellness business and pursue his passion for making mindfulness accessible and relatable to everyone. And since he has been doing this work, the two words that people have said to him most are ‘busy and wrecked'. So he set out to find out why we are all so busy so much of the time, why burnout is becoming so prominent, and what are the small, achievable actions we can take every day to buy some of that precious time back for ourselves. And he joins me on this episode of the Mario Rosenstock Podcast to tell me what he found out.COMEDY - Some well-known characters share their tips for staying mindful and avoiding burnout Produced by Patrick Haughey, AudioBrand
Dermot Whelan, author of Busy and Wrecked, and formerly of Dermot & Dave joined us this week - And Calvin only called him Dave by accident once which is a win!Dermot explained how he went from being an altar boy to dreaming of being Indiana Jones, to where he is now. For years, Dermot suffered with anxiety and didn't understand it - But he didn't let it stop him from getting on stage for stand up or presenting shows like Republic of Telly. He told us how meditation helped him transform his anxiety from something that held him back to a superpower and how he uses comedy to pass on the same tools. Sponsored by FBT Gyms

In the modern world, being “flat out” has become a way of life—but it's leaving us burned out, disconnected, and running on empty. In this episode, Niall sits down with Dermot Whelan—TV and radio broadcaster, comedian, author, mindfulness teacher and long time friend of the podcast—to unravel Ireland's obsession with busyness and the toll it's taking on our well-being. Dermot's new book, Busy and Wrecked, explores how we've come to wear exhaustion like a badge of honor, why we struggle to slow down, and how we can break free from a system that constantly demands more. Together, he and Niall discuss the roots of Ireland's culture of busyness, the inherited stress of our history, and the guilt that comes with stepping off the treadmill. Dermot shares his own journey recovering from burnout, the practical tools that helped him shift his mindset, and how sometimes eating the metaphorical frog can help us refocus on what's really important (although we're not sure Niall's dog Stevie would agree). While we're on our short summer break, I'm playing some of my favourite episodes from the series so far. This one is from May 2021, its with my friend and colleague Dermot Whelan, who has just announced that he's leaving the Dermot and Dave Show on Today FM to focus on his mindfulness business. When we record this episode, Dermot had just released his bestselling book Mind Full. He told me all about the book, the business and how and why it all started. Dermot is also a very talented impressionist. Diarmuid Gavin, Rory McIlroy, Professor Snape from Harry Potter and even the late great Terry Wogan all make an appearance in this interview. Enjoy the chat and don't forget to follow the series for free, and drop us a rating and review if you're feeling generous! Produced by Patrick Haughey, AudioBrand

I work with Dave Moore every day. We sit mere yards from each other in Today FM, have done for years. We've shared studios and the odd night out. So naturally I thought I knew Dave well, but it turns out that there is SO much to this man that I had no idea about. Like his successful career as a songwriter and music producer before he ever started to work in radio. Like the totally random and unexpected way he ended up working with Dermot Whelan over 20 years ago now. Or like the recent hit Netflix series that featured Dave's reworking of a Radiohead classic. And so much more besides. So in this episode of The Mario Rosenstock Podcast, you're going to learn a lot more about Dave Moore, and I think you'll get a good laugh too. COMEDY: What a week it has been for Irish sport, as the women's football team beat Scotland to qualify for the World Cup in Australia.
