Welcome back to the Sorry to Interrupt podcast! On another edition of College Hopps Corner, Sean and Will recap the week starting with a strong Kansas win over Houston on Monday at the Phog and what it means for both teams as conference play winds downs. Next, they recap the rest of the week highlighted by Uconn's destruction of St. John's and what future takeaways can be made from both teams going forward. Finally, they preview the weekend ahead. Everyone enjoy the pod and dont forget to rate, review and subscribe!
St. John's gets embarrassed by UConn, and the reaction swings between “flush it” and “this is exactly what can sink you in March.” The guys break down how a team that dominated the Big East can look completely unrecognizable on a cold shooting night, and why that is what makes the tournament so terrifying. Is it a one off anomaly, or a warning sign that the Johnnies are one bad stretch away from an early exit? Plus, CC Sabathia's number is officially headed to the rafters, and it sparks a bigger conversation about legacy, peaks, and what it means to be forever tied to New York. The segment also circles back through the morning's hottest topics with calls pouring in, including more Jets trade talk and what building in the trenches actually says about a team's plan.

St. John's dismantled Creighton at MSG on Saturday to make it 13 wins in a row. The Johnnies are in first place in the Big East at 15-1 in conference play. Dylan Darling has continued to shine and the front court of Zuby Ejiofor, Bryce Hopkins and Dillon Mitchell continue to be unstoppable. Plus we start talking about the week ahead, games against UConn and Villanova, the tournament is on the horizon and seeding is a big talking point. Back at home after a week in Chicago, Brendan is joined by "The Boys" for this beefy Monday show. This episode was recorded late on Sunday night after BP was issued a technical foul during a youth basketball game and needed time to "decompress" before using a microphone. Joseph immediately wants to learn why Brendan was T'd up and finds that his actions were completely justified after a complete rules breakdown. While the technical foul may be a big story for this podcast, the biggest story in sports this weekend belongs to LIV Golf following Anthony Kim's win in Adelaide. AK erased a five-shot Sunday deficit playing in a group with major champions Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, defeating Rahm by three shots for his first win in 16 years. Brendan, Joseph, and PJ recap the final round, covering Kim's outstanding iron play, the return of the swagger that made him captivating to begin with, and the many inspiring quotes from after the tournament wrapped up. They also question some of the broadcast's hyperbolic statements about the magnitude of the moment. There is also plenty of discussion about brutal Sundays from Rahm and Bryson, adding yet another week without a win for both of them on the LIV Golf tour. Not to be completely outdone, the PGA Tour had an "A+ week" at Pebble Beach according to Brendan. Collin Morikawa came from behind to secure his first win since the 2023 Zozo, making a four on the 18th hole for the win. Joseph and Brendan break down performances from Morikawa, Akshay Bhatia, and even Scottie Scheffler, who found himself in the mix again after a slow start on Thursday. Joseph also calls out Sam Burns for his club choice on the final hole, something that only a Deputy would do. In news, Gary Player remains upset with Augusta National (and Brendan may have an idea of why), sponsor exemptions go to - who else? - Jordan Spieth and Tony Finau, and Brendan and PJ go in on the Providence Friars following a dirty Saturday game against the Johnnies. On this segment of Evan & Tiki, the guys dive into the latest reports from Adam Schefter regarding potential NFL rule changes. Evan and Tiki debate the pros and cons of allowing teams to trade draft picks up to five years in advance and whether the league should finally replace the onside kick with a 4th-and-13 play from the 25-yard line. Then, the show goes off the rails when a caller claims Patriots QB Drake Maye is already "leaps and bounds" better than Eli Manning after just two seasons. Evan loses his cool, defending Eli's clutch legacy against what he calls "stat-padding" from the Patriots' young star. Also in this hour: St. John's Expectations: With the Johnnies sitting at 19-5, is it "Elite Eight or Bust" for Rick Pitino? If there was any doubt before if this team had guts, that goes out the window. In back to back games St. John's was down by at least 15 points in the second half and dug in deep. They came away with two wins, and at the Cintas Center, it was St. John's having to rely on once again use their defense to lead to offense. Thanks to Dillon Mitchell, Bryce Hopkins and Dylan Darling, the Johnnies made sure that Father Knew Best once again and St. John's got Rick Pitino win #900 - coming over Xavier coached by his son Richard. The Red Storm are road warriors as they've gotten their third road conference win of the season knocking off the Creighton Blue Jays at home 90-73. Lefty has come on strong the last two games, earning a spot in the rotation and making the most of his opportunities, leading the Johnnies with 17 points in this game. The Red Storm dominated this game, which featured their best offensive half of the season and seemingly looks like the rotations are coming into focus. BT and Sal dive into the state of St. John's basketball following a tough loss to Iowa State in the stacked Vegas tournament. Tierney expresses his frustration, stating the team is having a "rough time finding their identity" and is filled with "puppies" who lack the "dog" mentality of last year's squad. He questions whether point guard Dylan Darling is a full-time solution and notes that star forwards Zuby Ejiofor and Bryce Hopkins seem to be playing in each other's way. The hosts lament the loss of the old Big East rivalries (like St. John's vs. Syracuse) due to the "unforgivable" nature of conference realignment. The segment wraps up by looking ahead to the Johnnies' pivotal matchup against Baylor, demanding a bounce-back performance.

The Garden was rocking, the Johnnies had the lead in the second half, but the trio of Labaron Philon, Aden Holloway and Latrell Wrightsell Jr were too much for St. John's to withstand. The Red Storm offense scored 96 points, even with a low volume and poor three point output, but it's the defense that left many fans scratching their heads. Powered by Zuby Ejiofor's All-American like 27 points and 10 rebound performance it took until the second half for the guards to get going. Alabama got great product from Taylor Bol Bowen to supplement the firepower from the guards at every turn. So St. John's loses their first big game of the season, one of potentially six big non conference games, we discuss what needs to improve quickly if this team is to make noise later this season. We're joined this episode by Charles Branch of the Crimson Crossover Podcast covering Alabama.Follow the podcast on Twitter:@EyeonStormPod = Eye on the Storm Podcast#sjubb
In their first game of the season, St. John's certainly looked the part of a top 5 team in the country. St. John's had five players score in double figures, 12 total Johnnies notched points, and it was a dominant effort start to finish with a 108-74 win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Led by Dillon Mitchell and Zuby Ejiofor the big men in the paint set the tone. Ian Jackson was perfect from the floor, for 15 points and adding three triples. Ayo, Darling and Sanon all contributed greatly as St. John's kept their foot on the gas until the clock read 0:00. Follow the podcast on Twitter:@EyeonStormPod = Eye on the Storm Podcast#sjubb

Adh Mór CatherineThe Presidential election is on Friday. Many of you reading this column or listening to it on social media platforms, will not have a vote. But some of you will. So, I am asking you to cast your first preference for Catherine Connolly and to encourage everyone else to do the same. The last week has seen a significant increase in negative campaigning against Catherine by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil and by the establishment media. Why has Catherine Connolly, who most of the media ignored during her time as a TD, become the bête noire of the establishment? Is it because she has unashamedly challenged Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil on their appalling record in government – on health, on homelessness, on the cost-of-living crisis, and on carers? Is it because of her fluency in the Irish language? Is it because she has defended neutrality and condemned genocide against the Palestinian people? Is it because of her support for a United Ireland.Hiding the TruthLast Sunday was the anniversary of the imposition on 19 October 1988 of the broadcasting ban by British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Prior to that censorship in one form or another had operated in the North and in Britain, and also in the 26 counties. The rational for this had long been the desire of the two governments to deny citizens their right to information. In this way it was easier to promote the establishment's narrative. In Ireland the British media strategy had its roots in Britain's colonial experience. But it was especially influenced by the writings in the late 1960s of General Frank Kitson who believed that all governmental structures; the judiciary, the law, the police and the media, must be part of a co-ordinated strategy to defeat ‘the enemy' while suppressing citizens and their rights.Legacy Bill deeply flawedPresented by the Irish and British governments as the resolution to the long running legacy issue the ‘Northern Ireland Troubles Bill' is anything but that. Once again the British government, with the support of the Irish government, is introducing a legal structure that provides the British state with the means to deny the truth to families.Under draft legislation, drawn from the two governments Framework Agreement, the British Secretary of State will have the power to withhold information from families and inquests; from the information retrieval body, the Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery (CRIR), and from the new Legacy Commission. In addition, agencies like MI5 will have the power to vet all reports. The British Secretary of State will also be able to make various regulations and guidance, including the power to make an award to cover legal representation/expenses etc. for participation in inquisitorial proceedings.Comhghairdeas Naomh EoinWell done to Naomh Eoin's Senior hurlers. For the first time, we whipped out our passport to go abroad to cover a Division III football story. Twenty-six years into running the website and in the 19th year of the podcast and yes, there can still be new things. A number of Division III schools left the country to give their student-athletes an educational experience and to also play a spring football game, and we followed along with one of those teams and you can follow along with three of them in this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast. Plus ... This edition of the podcast is sponsored by GameStrat: The Most Reliable & Fastest In-Game Video Replay System on The Market. D-III football coaches should click here to learn more. St. John's went up to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to play the Winnipeg Rifles of the Canadian Junior Football League, and the Johnnies were hoping to learn a little bit more about what they have at quarterback. Since Aaron Syverson has graduated, the Johnnies were looking at five quarterback candidates, one of whom noped out before the trip even started. So four players got snaps up north on Saturday, May 17, and two are in the mix to get the start in Week 1 against Minnesota-Morris. You'll meet them and hear what their receivers, offensive coordinator, and head coach Gary Fasching think of their performance, plus you'll hear about the most Canadian thing ever that happened before the game and meet a few SJU transfers whose names you could be hearing this fall. Carnegie Mellon went to Spain, and we'll find out from coach Ryan Larsen what the Tartans were hoping to get out of their trip, since they lost so many starters and key contributors from a team which had Mount Union on the ropes in the fourth quarter of last year's playoff game. And Hampden-Sydney took its team to Italy, where coach Vince Luvara had a quite different take on what was important for his program and his student-athletes. Plus, you'll be hungry after you hear about the great eating both teams did in Europe! Also, Patrick and Greg will give their take on the top five quarterbacks in D-III football since 1999, and will present two teams which could contend for conference titles after not making the playoffs last year, thanks to two great questions from our mailbag segment. Patrick and Greg cover it all in the latest edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast.

The Transfer Portal window is officially closed. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) breaks down his way too early top 25 for the 2025-2026 season. Have Houston and Purdue separated themselves with all their experience returning? Are Mark Pope and John Calipari leading the way so far in the SEC with their large NIL budgets? Where do the defending National Champions in Gainesville stack up with their new look roster? Are BYU and Texas Tech in position to push Houston after a massive offseason of spending in the Portal? Are Kansas and Iowa State flying under the radar? Who is the top dog in the Big East: Rick Pitino and the Johnnies or Dan Hurley and the Huskies? Is the Big Ten having an underrated offseason with quality teams like Sparty, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, UCLA, and Oregon all looking good on paper?
