Just two years before winning the Joe McDonagh Cup final, Antrim Hurler Domhnall Nugent had been on the streets battling an addiction to alcohol.Domhnall was just 20 years old and living out of a rucksack, having spent every penny he had on the addiction that had brought him to rock bottom, where he was left to feel that his life was no longer worth living. And then there's Let's Face It.What started out as a shot to nothing podcast has evolved into something much more meaningful, to him and to those who have benefitted from conversations with guests from all walks of life.Talking saved him, and he believes it can do the same for others.Folllow Domhnall @letsfaceit_youcanyouwillFollow @acountydownunder on Instagram and TikTok and visit www.acountydownunder.com for all you need to know about life abroad .Join Caroline's amazing weekly Sunrise Social clubs across the world. The podcast is proudly sponsored by Gym+Coffee: 20% Discount code: DOWNUNDER

Critics Choice Award nominee Alex Rich joins us to talk all about his physically and emotionally taxing role on the chilling FX on Hulu series The Patient where he worked alongside Steve Carrell, Domhnall Gleeson, and Linda Emond (you can see our interview with Linda here) as Elias, who falls victim to Gleeson's psychotic, homicidal character Sam. Despite the heavy subject material, Alex describes his experience as “high stakes with a small cast, and the episodes read as a play. You're in one set and staying in the emotional peaks and valleys of these people in a confined area.” As his character Elias is captured, tied and blindfolded by Sam, Alex explained that he did all he could between takes and off set to keep a calm demeanor to not exhaust himself from the long days of shooting as his character is almost constantly under duress. “Staying in that space for days on end can be taxing. It was a really dynamic place to try to stay in. That experience, every actor should have the good fortune to sit in because it was a challenge but in the right ways.” “Domhnall is such a great guy and that made it easier,” he said of working with the actor in a very intense role. “I can't see what's happening because of [the blindfold] but Domhnall would come in and authentically scare me. He'd do something unexpected and it was really intimidating. He's scary! But we're able to separate the person from the character and he's lovely.” The Patient is now streaming on Hulu.

Three-time Tony Award nominated actress Linda Emond joins us to talk about her role in the chilling new series, FX on Hulu's The Patient where she stars alongside Steve Carrell and Domhnall Gleeson. The Joel Fields and Joseph Weisman-helmed series, who previously collaborated on FX's hit series The Americans, follows a psychotherapist (Carrell), who is imprisoned by his client Sam (Gleeson) who reveals himself to be a serial killer. Emond plays Sam's mother Candace who while not completely supportive of her son's behavior, certainly isn't discouraging of it either. “I felt lucky every single day. It was great writing, great acting,” Emond said of working on the series. “Most of my stuff was with Steve Carrell, so how bad can that be? And Domhnall was a doll, even though he's not playing a doll. It was a weird joy to go into such a dark show.” Emond talks with us about the challenges in tackling the dark subject material and finding levity in between scenes when not filming, especially with her two co-stars Carrell and Gleeson whose roles were very emotional and physical. “We had to work to stay sane, especially Steve. I don't know how he did that. Domhnall, too, but doing hours and hours in that basement? It was a great experience from top to bottom.” New episodes of The Patient are available to stream Tuesdays on Hulu
On Tuesday's Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Domhnall O'Loinsigh who is a representative of the Michael Cusack Centre. Domhnall came on air to outline the running of events to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the birth of Michael Cusack. Michael Cusack was born in Carron on September 20th 1847. A wreath laying ceremony was held at the Michael Cusack Centre on Saturday and there will also be one held at Cusack Park on Tuesday afternoon.

FX/Hulu continues their winning television streak with The Patient, a true two-hander starring Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson. If you've seen any marketing of the show, you'll know the high-concept premise. A serial killer abducts a therapist to try and get himself cured. Wild high-concept idea for a TV series, and through two episodes, they're pulling it off. A sneaky half-hour television drama (a rarity) that leaves you wanting more at the end of each episode (while avoiding dragging, since it's mostly Steve and Domhnall talking in a room). Let me know what you think of The Patient by writing to dan@voyagemedia.com or hitting me up on Twitter (@BenamorDan), Instagram (watch_this_tonight) or Facebook (Watch This Tonight). And keep an eye out for Voyage Media's upcoming podcast THE HITLER FILE (starring Peter Stormare and Denis O'Hare), which is surprisingly similar to this show, albeit with Hitler, coming soon.

Today's show is focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic which has taken control of pretty much the entire planet at the moment. We hear from local doctors, Dr. Domhnall Heron and Dr. Alan Loftus about the impact locally and from Enda McGloin, Chairman of Leitrim County Council about the impact on services and the changes that have been made to the operations of the County Council. Dr. Domhnall Heron (6:00), who has been to the fore of raising the discussion in recent weeks with open letters to the government which have featured heavily on the front pages of the Leitrim Observer for each of the last two weeks. He joins Breifne to discuss the situation and some of the nationwide steps that are required to keep the health service functional and able to cope with the inevitable spike in resources which is headed our way. He speaks about the experience we have seen play out in China and India and what we can learn from their mistakes and try to 'flatten the curve' to where we the HSE can cope. He proposes that the Government should take the advice of the WHO Executive Director, Dr. Michael Ryan to protect our citizens and act now to protect our citizens. Breifne also speaks to Dr. Alan Loftus (17:30), a GP based in Drumshanbo, about the impact the pandemic and the hysteria around it has had on the day to day running of a health centre in the county. He shares very simple advice on when and how to engage your doctor if you are concerned in any way about your own health. He also mentions the importance of looking out for mental health concerns in our communities with the nature of isolation in the coming weeks and months. Finally, the Chairman of Leitrim County Council, Enda McGloin (32:00), joins Breifne to discuss the reality of how the County Council is conducting it's work, having closed it's offices to the public and moving all services to phone and online. Details are available on their social media accounts and websites. Breifne also asks him to explain the economic effect on people and companies based in the county in terms of the various taxes payable to the local authority. For all advice and current policy please refer to www.hse.ie and follow all guidelines for the good of all members of our community.
This week is a little different on the show, with a relatively quiet weekend on the sporting action we’re taking a little look at the upcoming elections for the Chairman’s position of Leitrim GAA speaking to both candidates for the role. With a number of clubs holding their own AGM’s ahead of the county convention on the 15th December, we’ve put both potential chairmen in the spotlight to discuss their experience, their ambitions and what they would see as success, should they be elected to the head of the organisation in just three weeks. Enda Stenson (Eslin) joins Breifne to discuss decades of service to the association in the county as a player, administrator, referee and through his political life as the chairperson of the Leitrim Sports Partnership. Enda also deals with the question of whether there might be a conflict between winning this role and his two decades as an elected member of Leitrim County Council. Enda expresses his delight that there is an election for the position and that discussion will take place about the merits of both candidates. He also lets us know about his disappointment that it is the only role which will be contested at the convention. Stephen Flynn (Mohill) is also an administrator with four decades of experience in the game having been elected to the position of club secretary at just fifteen years of age and having served as secretary of both the County Board and Bord na nOg in the past. He details his ambitions for where Leitrim GAA can push on after a double promotion season with both the Footballers and Hurlers moving up a grade. Stephen discusses the potential conflict of interest with his son Domhnall an active member of the senior football squad. Finally on the show, newly appointed U17 county football manager Brendan Guckian drops in to discuss his return to the inter county sideline, two years after leaving the senior squad. With a hugely experienced support team with him, the future is looking very bright for the future generation of Leitrim footballers.

This week we talk to Domhnall Finch from the University of Sussex about bats, and how landscape features such as hedgerows, roads and lighting affect the rare greater horseshoe bat. We ask how our changing landscapes are affecting our only flying mammal, and Domhnall tells us about his data collection both monitoring greater horseshoe populations in underground caves, and investigating how bat activity is affected by road traffic noise. For a Planet PhD first, we bring a debate point to the podcast: do we actually need bats? (no spoilers.... but tequila) We discover that not all bats hang upside down, we confirm that everything comes back to insects, and (in the outtakes) we learn how to pronounce ‘Domhnall’. Find out more about Domhnall’s research on his Twitter and Instagram: @Domhnallfinch

Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective
Thanks for sticking with us as we are fixin' to unpack a Turducken of an episode in preparation for the Thanksgiving week. This week's show is about the Tom Cruise movie, American Made, where the questions of legality somehow apply differently if you’re doing it for the “good” guys. This international escapade is based on the outrageous, true exploits of a hustler and pilot recruited to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history. Based on an incredible true story of the CIA's biggest secret. Barry Seal is an impetuous and bored pilot who gets leveraged into doing more and more compromising activities for the CIA, the Contras in Nicaragua, and the Medellín Cartel down in Colombia. Once they get their foot in the door, there’s no way out for our hero. Join us next week as we’re gonna wreck it on “Wreck-it Ralph”! Show notes and more at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/103 As this is our Thanksgiving episode, we’d be remiss to not launch some deals in your direction. Black Friday Deals are at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/deals Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.com Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests. SUBSCRIBE, RATE AND REVIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS (or iTUNES)
Why do time travelers love Rachel McAdams so much? We watched The Time Traveler’s Wife, About Time, Doctor Strange, and Midnight in Paris to get to the bottom of this peculiar typecasting. Yep, it’s an episode all about Rachel McAdams, romance, and time travel—what’s not to love? (Special shout-out to Jaslyn of the High Expectations Podcast for convincing us to watch About Time.) We also play a game of Fictional Five and chat about our fave sci-fi crushes. Our intro/outro music is "We Are Highscore" by Krackatoa.
What looks to be a routine home call for Dr. Faraday turns into something much more when he realizes he has wandered back into the lives of a family with deep secrets that connect back to him. Admir and Chris discuss this peculiar horror film as they debate just how appropriate that film genre classification really is, examine Domhnall Gleeson magnetic performance and ponder the question of just how important external reading is to a film's review score.

It only seems like "Happy Sad Confused" has a Gleeson on every week what with Brendan making his debut a few weeks back and returning champion Domhnall back in the hot seat for a third time on this episode. But there's a reason the Gleesons are always welcome. On this visit to the show Domhnall nearly spills the beans on Episode IX, talks about his creepy mustache in his new film, and teases a return to comedy! Besides all the randomness and laughs Josh and Domhnall actually also talk about his new film, "The Little Stranger", which marks another collaboration with Lenny Abrahamson. You don't have to have the last name Gleeson to be a great actor but it certainly doesn't seem to hurt. If you're a "Happy Sad Confused" listener you already know Domhnall but today it's time to recognize the accomplishments of dear old dad, Brendan. And there's a lot to recognize. Brendan only became a feature film actor in his mid 30s but he's made up for lost time ever since, working with the likes of Scorsese, Martin and John Michael McDonagh, Danny Boyle, John Boorman, Neil Jordan, and countless other notables. In this chat with Josh, he talks about what he needed to learn about film acting when he made the leap, embracing the magical world of Harry Potter, and at long last working for the Coen brothers in the upcoming "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs". Plus, Gleeson talks about making the plunge into television for Stephen King and David E. Kelly in the series, "Mr. Mercedes". The 2nd season premieres August 22nd on the Audience Network. Tonight I'm heading all the way up to the Isle of Lewis, in the beautiful Western Isles of North West Scotland to talk to crofter and broadcaster Domhnall McSween @SweenyNess After my pathetic attempts at Gallic pronunciation, Domhnall tells us all about the unique part of the World that he lives, some of the amazing archaeological remains he's found there, and the connection he and his family have to the island. We discover what a croft actually is, and how the society works. We also talk about how he came to be back on the family croft after a brief stint away at Glasgow University studying Maths. We go on to talk about how his thinking outside the box, and the importance of marketing, has led to him becoming the biggest egg and pork producer on the Western Isles. We discuss his fantastic blog - airanlot.com - and the extensive amount of TV work he's done for BBC Alba, that's led to him travelling the length and breadth of Britain. We also hear the greatest football story ever. Don't miss this one! All this and lots more, in a specially extended edition of Rock & Roll Farming..

A wife faces an onslaught of invaders into her home as her husband keeps welcoming them in to party and ransack the place without any regard for the home or its owners. It’s a metaphor. Joe invites Phil Forsyth back to the show to discuss this polarizing film to discuss Phil’s affection for it, Joe’s hatred for it, whiz bang thrill-rides, the lack of subtlety, the confusing nature of the religious parallels vs. the confusing nature of the non-religious parallels, misogyny, irresponsible native American messages, paycheck movies, uncomfortable attacks on religion, funny bits, theatrical elements, the correct pronunciation of Domhnall, how actors react to failed movies, and introverted Bible scholars. Discussing the literary roots of the film and how the PETER RABBIT cinematic universe seems to have branched off into a much darker and grittier narrative. PLUS we ask questions like: are the Beatrix Potter books actually science fiction masterpieces which explore string theory and parallel universes and alternate realities? AND is PETER RABBIT actually a STAR WARS anthology movie? Starring the likes of Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, and Daisy Ridley! All this and LESS on this shorter BONUS episode of TRIO SIMPATICO! It's the 200th episode of "Happy Sad Confused" and what better way to celebrate than to bring back one of our favorite guests, Domhnall Gleeson! It seems like it's always an embarrassment of riches when Domhnall re-enters the spotlight and that's certainly the case right now with no less than three films out within weeks of each other, "A Futile and Stupid Gesture", "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", and "Peter Rabbit". Josh visits with Domhnall who is enjoying his first Sundance film festival with the story of the rise and fall of the National Lampoon, "A Futile and Stupid Gesture", premiering there. But of course this conversation veers all over the place in the best possible way with plenty of fun Star Wars talk and much more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this installment of our bonus segment "In Theaters," we give you our immediate reaction to seeing a new movie on the big screen. This time, we tackled the newest "Star Wars" episode, "The Last Jedi." We discuss what we thought of Luke Skywalker's story, porgs, milked aliens, and which child actor we think Supreme Leader Snoke looks like. **NOTE: THIS EPISODE CONTAINS SPOILERS** Quick Facts Release date: Dec. 15, 2017 Runtime: 2 hour 32 minutes Starring: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio del Toro, Gwendoline Christie Directed by: Rian Johnson Tell us what you think by chatting with us (@filmsnuff) on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, or by shooting us an email over at mailbag@filmsnuff.com. Star Wars and Paddington - two films that smack of adult nostalgia for their childhoods, now re-marketed to children today. Paddington 2, directed by Paul King, conjures up a sense of Englishness that is at once classic, but also modern. It's a charming film that is well worth your time. The latest Star Wars - which Stevie has not seen, so Emmet is left to be interrogated on its merits - is brought to the screen by Rian Johnson. Instead of heavily relying on the established Star Wars formula, Johnson chooses to highlight the use of those repeated plot threads - temptation by the dark side, a Jedi mentor crippled by failure, a resistance army forced to continually retreat from an evil empire in pursuit - then flips these narratives in interesting ways. This is a spoiler free discussion that treats of The Last Jedi's position in relation to the original films - and the whole Star Wars marketing phenomenon.
Two years ago in a studio not far away.... J.J. "Jar-Jar" Abrams rebooted yet another franchise with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." It's Disney's cynical ripoff of the original 1977 "Star Wars" plot, but it has a spherical R2-D2, an angsty, millennial Darth Vader with a slightly different lightsaber and a female Luke Skywalker. All of these decisions were unquestionably made in order to manipulate a whole new generation of children into begging their parents into purchasing a bunch of plastic toys made from earth-destroying chemicals (who needs the Death Star?). Daisy Ridley plays Rey, a character whose family abandoned her as a child on the desert planet of Jakku without even a last name. At the beginning of the movie, she's selling space junk for scraps of bread, but, by the end of the movie, she's inexplicably beating up a 6'2" lifelong warrior who knows all kinds of Dark Side tricks and was trained as a Jedi Knight by Luke Skywalker himself. Adam Driver plays Kylo Ren — Han Solo and Princess Leia's tantrum-throwing, Darth Vader wannabe of a son. He has somehow managed to become a high-ranking official in an evil interstellar organization known as The First Order, despite the fact that he demonstrates total incompetence in everything he does. John Boyega plays Finn, a Stormtrooper who defects from The First Order after he is asked to massacre a village on his first mission. This was actually an interesting introduction to this new character, but the movie never even slightly develops him and instead merely makes him Rey's sidekick and occasional cheesy comic relief. Oscar Issac, the highly-accomplished, Juilliard-trained actor who should have been nominated for an Oscar for his role in "Ex Machina," plays Poe Dameron, a happy-go-lucky resistance fighter pilot who spends most of his screen time making bad quips while flying around and blowing stuff up. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hammill, Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels play old Han Solo, old Princess Leia, old Luke Skywalker, old Chewbacca and old C-3PO respectively. Join us as we wonder why the humans in this movie have either American, English or Scottish accents, what "force-sensitive" actually means, and whether the First Order's ships have toilets.
