Cohen Miles-Rath (Mending Reality: An Advocate's Existential Journey with Mental Health) is a mental health advocate, author, and suicide prevention professional. Cohen joins Armchair Expert to discuss growing up between two wildly different households in upstate New York, finding his footing as a distance runner while becoming the first in his family to go to college, and how injuries and pressure began to unravel his sense of self. Cohen and Dax talk about the psychotic break that led him to try to kill his father, the role weed and sleeplessness played in his crisis, and the unconditional love that helped him rebuild his life after jail. Cohen explains what hallucinations and delusions feel like from the inside, why recovery requires daily vigilance and a strong support system, and how sharing his story helps reduce stigma around severe mental illness.Check Allstate first for a quote that could save you hundreds: https://www.allstate.com/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this episode of the ZenRUN Podcast, I chat with the wonderful Suzanne Rath - Irish farm girl, physio, business owner, leadership coach, trail runner, adventure collector, and someone who seems to casually say yes to things like cycling across South America, running from Sydney to Newcastle, and possibly signing up for Delirious WEST. As you do. Suzanne grew up on a farm in Wexford, Ireland, where resilience, self-reliance, and a “how hard can it be?” attitude were basically part of daily life. From there, her story takes us through physio study, hospital work, Uganda, Sydney, a serious cycling accident, concussion recovery, Katherine in the Northern Territory, and eventually Cairns - where she now runs a multidisciplinary allied health clinic. But this conversation is much more than a running story. It's about what happens when life knocks you sideways. It's about rebuilding after injury. It's about adventure, identity, leadership, values, community, and learning that running doesn't have to be about pace, PBs, or proving anything. Sometimes running becomes the place where we get space to think. Sometimes it becomes the thing that reminds us what we're capable of. And sometimes it becomes the reason we find ourselves surrounded by people who think running 270km from Sydney to Newcastle sounds like a perfectly reasonable personal challenge. Which, obviously, it is not. But also… I get it. Why You'll Love This Episode In this conversation, Suzanne shares: What it was like growing up on a farm in Ireland How running first became part of her life through community and connection Her time working as a physio in Uganda The serious bike accident that led to a broken jaw, post-concussion symptoms, pain, anxiety, and a long recovery Why trail running helped her fall back in love with running How she built a whole-person allied health clinic in Cairns Why running and leadership have more in common than most people think Her Sydney to Newcastle trail adventure - including flash flooding, leeches, getting lost, wet feet, and a very patient support crew Why she believes organised 200-mile races might actually be easier than self-supported chaos How she fits running, business, travel, speaking, leadership coaching, and big adventures into real life Why motivation is not the thing to rely on Why running is a privilege - especially when it's hard Suzanne's Running Tips Suzanne shared so many great reminders in this episode, including: Minimise the friction. Have your gear ready. Know what you're doing. Remove as many tiny obstacles as possible so getting out the door doesn't become a negotiation. Put your running in the calendar first. Suzanne plans her week around the things that matter - including training, adventure, family, and recovery - rather than waiting to “find time” later. Don't rely on motivation. As Suzanne says, if she waited until she felt motivated, she might never run again. Make it easier to start instead. Have something to aim for. It doesn't have to be a huge event. It can be a small goal, a race, a trail, an adventure, or simply something that gives your running a little spark. Stay connected when you're injured. If you can't run, don't disappear. Go to breakfast. Cheer people on. Stay part of the running community. Remember what a privilege it is. Even when it's hard, even when you're tired, even when your feet are wet and your brain is questioning your life choices - it's still a privilege to be able to move, explore, and do these things. A Favourite Moment One of my favourite parts of this conversation was Suzanne talking about how the joy came back into running when it became aligned with her values. Not when she got faster. Not when she ticked off another race. Not when she proved anything. But when running became connected to adventure, community, potential, and living in a way that felt true to her. And honestly, that feels very ZenRUN. Listen To This Episode If… You'll love this episode if you've ever: Come back from injury Lost your running mojo Wanted more adventure in your life Felt like your business, work, or responsibilities were swallowing all your time Used running as thinking space Wondered whether trail runners are all slightly unhinged Signed up for something before fully understanding the logistics Needed a reminder that running can be about joy, freedom, and possibility This is such a rich, funny, thoughtful conversation with a woman who has lived a lot of life, taken a lot of brave turns, and somehow still has more adventures planned. I loved this chat. And I think you will too. Suzanne's practice in Cairns - Wellness Embodied: https://www.wellnessembodiedcairns.com/
Brook, Mike and A'marri talk RATH, reactions from the City and how we plan to turn these neglected houses around.Only use first half of recording and stop when Mike says that the podcast section is done.Should include none of the meeting after where we talk about Brook's week next week and more specific work items.[1:00] Mike introduces the latest Project RATH developments and explains how the team is starting to see movement on neglected properties.[4:00] Mike compares Project RATH to getting in the end zone, focusing on before-and-after results that show real progress.[8:00] The group discusses using updates, email blasts, and investor communication to track problem houses and pressure action.[13:00] A'marri explains how one property owner appears to move ownership through different LLCs, making it harder for the city to collect taxes and liens.[19:00] Mike connects vacant homes to Cleveland Heights' larger housing problem, including lost property tax revenue and the impact on surrounding neighborhoods.
Send us Fan MailYour hosts Yajaira and Cheli are back with another chaotic, thirst-filled episode of The Book Fix—and this time, they're diving skates-first into Pucking Around by Emily Rath… and yeah, things get messy in the best way.Rachel Price just landed her dream role as a sports medicine practitioner for Jacksonville's hottest NHL team—career secured, boundaries clear… until her past literally skates back into her life. The one-night, no-names, “I'll never see you again” guy? He's now one of the team's star players—and he doesn't even recognize her. Add in his brooding best friend (the equipment manager) and a superstitious goalie who's way too attached to her presence, and suddenly Rachel's juggling way more than just her job.In this episode, Yajaira and Cheli break down the why choose chaos, the tension, the dynamics between all three men, and whether Rachel is really in control—or just barely holding it together. Expect lots of screaming, moral debates (kind of), and the ultimate question: is this empowerment… or a full-on emotional risk we would NOT survive?Support the showOur Linktree: https://linktr.ee/thebookfix?utm_source=linktree_admin_sharebecome our Patron ♡ https://www.patreon.com/BookFixbuy us a book ♡ https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thebookfixBusiness Inquiries: thebookfixpodcast@gmail.comfollow us on Tiktok! ♡ https://www.tiktok.com/@thebookfix

Football is evolving fast, and the coaches who keep pace are the ones who control what they can and win the little details. Ted Rath, Director of Sports Performance for the New Orleans Saints, reflects on over 15 years in the National Football League (NFL). He explains how training times, availability, and sheer athleticism have shifted with the game's expansion. Rath makes the case for gaining a well-rounded experience by coaching different sports, seeking knowledge, and being patient on your path. He also shares his linear progression approach to sport science that keeps new tools actionable and avoids technology overload. With players now arriving more educated and invested in their data, creating understanding and buy-in remains essential. Rath reveals that his coaching philosophy and culture starts with “leading yourself,” emphasizing ownership and helping others. Apply his perspective to protect availability, dial in the little details, and integrate sport science with purpose. We're in this together and we're competing for the same things and we're trying to help each other get better. But that also goes down to families. We work incredibly long hours, as you know, it's stressful. There are times where it's hard. It's extremely hard. You're going to face adversity. You're going to have ups, you're going to have downs, you're going to have great years. You're going to have very trying years. But all that also reflects upon your family and the people that you choose to surround yourself with.” 5:00 “I always tell the younger coaches that I'm talking to or asking me similar questions. Gain a well-rounded experience and what does that mean? Go see coaches with different philosophical approaches. Go see different sports like we talked about earlier. Go learn wherever you can go. Work with golf athletes and rotational athletes. Go. Just go seek knowledge wherever you can and try to make that as well-rounded as possible. And then don't rush it.” 9:20 “The only wrong step is not taking a step. So, I try to operate with a level of urgency. If you take the wrong step, that's okay. Just learn from it. Don't make that same mistake again.” 11:20

This episode focuses on housing neglect and lack of enforcement in Cleveland Heights, and how it's impacting property values and neighborhood stability. We discuss the inconsistency in city response—highlighting areas like Fernway where issues are addressed quickly, versus other neighborhoods where violations are largely ignored.A major theme is the normalization of neglect (“defining deviancy down”), with repeat-offender landlords facing little consequence. Roughly 400 distressed properties were identified, with about 100 tied to just five landlords. The episode introduces RATH, an action-driven group modeled after Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Unlike traditional nonprofits, RATH focuses on enforcement—identifying problem properties, contacting owners, and pursuing legal action when necessary (including financial claims for property value impact). We also emphasize resident involvement—giving homeowners tools and support to take action when the city fails to respond—and explore solutions like proactive “house policing,” fines, and stricter accountability for both landlords and tenants.Overall, the conversation is a call to restore standards, protect property values, and end the cycle of neglect at the neighborhood level.[1:10] Mike introduces Project RATH and explains the overall objective and strategy behind the deal.[5:05] The group discusses the planning process, including how they evaluate opportunities and structure projects for long-term success.[9:30] They break down key decisions involved in execution, including budgeting, timelines, and managing risk.[15:10] The conversation shifts to challenges encountered during the project and how they adapt their strategy when things don't go as planned.[22:40] They discuss lessons learned from Project RATH and how investors can apply similar thinking to their own deals.

Alberta independence is no longer just a fringe idea, it's becoming a serious conversation.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 18, 2026) – March Madness is built on split-second decisions, emotional swings and the thrill of uncertainty. From game-winning shots and busted brackets to late-night tip-offs and watch parties with friends, the NCAA tournament offers more than drama on the court — it also creates a window into how people think, react, connect and make meaning through sports. Using the science and humanity behind those moments, the tournament can serve as a lens to explore pressure, sleep, brain health and identity. Across UK's campus, experts in social work, neurology, aging and sociology study the kinds of moments March Madness brings into focus — from performance under pressure to the effects of lost sleep, from the role of social connection in brain health to the personal and cultural identities reflected in the brackets fans fill out each spring. On this episode of 'Behind the Blue', we talk with several of those experts: Matt Moore, associate dean of academic and student affairs in the UK College of Social Work; Dr. Subhendu Rath, assistant professor of neurology with UK HealthCare's Kentucky Neuroscience Institute; Dr. Elizabeth Rhodus and Dr. Gregory Jicha of UK's Sanders-Brown Center on Aging; and Caroline Brooks, a sociology professor in the UK College of Arts and Sciences. Moore explains why athletes who appear "clutch" are often relying on preparation, repetition and the ability to focus on what they can control; Rath outlines how even modest sleep loss during tournament season can affect attention, memory, mood and reaction time; and Rhodus, Jicha and Brooks examine how March Madness can foster brain engagement, social connection and a sense of belonging — while also revealing the subtle biases fans bring to the brackets they fill out each spring.

Surviving can look successful from the outside—yet feel exhausting on the inside. This episode explores the shift from pushing through to living well, even when life is demanding. If you feel stuck in reactivity, “Groundhog Day,” or constant busyness, Suzanne Rath shares practical ways to rebuild focus, momentum, and capacity. You'll learn why resilience isn't endless grit—it's resourcefulness, recovery, and intentional pauses that help you adapt, lead, and thrive long-term. About the Guest: Suzanne Rath is an endurance athlete, physiotherapist, and health coach based in Queensland, Australia (originally from Ireland). After a life-changing bike accident and traumatic brain injury, she developed the NDOS framework to support recovery, adaptability, and sustainable high performance. Episode Chapters: 00:06:10 – Survival vs thriving: the real shift 00:07:29 – Suzanne's accident and the long road back 00:09:23 – What resilience is (and isn't) 00:12:30 – Why survival mode accelerates time and fuels reactivity 00:15:07 – Signs you're stuck: focus, momentum, potential 00:17:57 – NDOS: vision, noise reduction, and recovery 00:23:18 – Support systems + adaptability as a modern superpower Key Takeaways: Treat purpose as a daily practice, not a feeling you “wait for.” Use micro-breaks to shift brain state (5 minutes counts). Create a “recovery menu” so breaks don't become more screen time. Reduce noise: close tabs, step away, and return to one priority. Build a support system with roles: cheerleader, accountability, wisdom. Strengthen adaptability by normalizing learning and mistakes at work. AI Regulation: The Danger of Fear and the Need for a National Framework — Kevin Fraaser — Fraser critiques the regulatory rush surrounding AI, faulting the EU's approach to establishing guardrails based on "speculative fears" rather than documented harms. He warns against allowing "robophobia"—unfounded fear of artificial intelligence—to drive policy, advocating instead for regulatory focus on beneficial applications including healthcare diagnostics and educational access. Fraaser advocates for a unified U.S. regulatory framework to prevent a fragmented patchwork of state laws and excessive litigation that stifles technological innovation. 1930

Always, Never, Either or. These are words that are often used when we get stuck in "All or Nothing" thinking. Our brains love to know, to hae clarity and understanding, so it is very easy for quick decisions and judgements to be made. However, sometimes these quick judgments lead to all-or-nothing thinking that isn't correct and allows little room for middle ground or a grey area. In today's podcast, we are going to talk about all-or-nothing thinking. We are going to discuss some examples of some times I've seen this show up in myself, my coaching, and with family, and how to navigate through this! First, instead of using the more rigid words like always and never, try using more flexible language. Second, catch yourself when you are using all-or-nothing or black and white talk. This awareness is a HUGE first step! Another tip, say BOTH! Rath than assume that things have to be either/or, they can be BOTH! We are all awesome and flawed! Ask Questions! "Is this true?" Is always a great place to start! And last, COMPASSION! Talk to yourself like a trusted friend, family member, or the Savior. As you practice these tips even one time a day, this will give you so much leverage and awareness on your thought patterns and expand our all-or-nothing thinking into an approach with room for the middle ground!
The gopīs spoke thus: Dear Lord, whose navel is just like a lotus flower, Your lotus feet are the only shelter for those who have fallen into the deep well of material existence. Your feet are worshiped and meditated upon by great mystic yogīs and highly learned philosophers. We wish that these lotus feet may also be awakened within our hearts, although we are only ordinary persons engaged in household affairs.
