Coy Jandreau (DC Studios), Tara Erickson, & Aaron Alexander are BACK to React to Alien: Earth Episode 5, "In Space, No One..." Dive into the dystopian depths of Alien: Earth, the audacious FX/Hulu sci-fi horror series from Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), set in 2120—two years before the events of the original Alien film. This world-blending prequel explores a fragmented society ruled by ruthless corporations through the lens of hybrid beings with human consciousness and synthetic bodies. Harkening back to the classic isolation, suspense, and vicious horror of the original films, Episode 5 isolates us to the halls of the USCSS Maginot, revealing the harrowing fate of the crew, as alluded to in the series' opening moments. Complete with facehuggers & grisly Xenomorph attacks along with various other of the show's now-iconic specimens, including the Trypanohyncha Ocellus, "In Space, No One..." brings a tense bottle episode, providing a welcome flashback while incorporating the franchise's classic aesthetics. This episode stamps Alien: Earth as a genre-defining standout, combining visceral horror with sharply observed corporate dystopia—humanity itself becomes the scariest monster..... Dive into the dystopian depths of Alien: Earth, the audacious FX/Hulu sci-fi horror series from Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), set in 2120—two years before the events of the original Alien film. This world-blending prequel explores a fragmented society ruled by ruthless corporations through the lens of hybrid beings with human consciousness and synthetic bodies. Send us a textThis week on The Fixate & Binge Podcast, I go beyond the jump scares and alien horror of FX/Hulu's ALIEN EARTH to uncover the deeper philosophical questions lurking beneath. *What does it mean to be conscious? *Who controls our autonomy in a world dominated by corporate titans acting as modern-day world powers? *And what does the pursuit of knowledge and exploration—whether into deep space or deep AI—say about humanity's relentless drive to become gods, or perhaps greater than God Himself?Through the prism of ALIEN EARTH, I'll examine our present reality: corporations that rival nations, the commodification of human individuality, and the ethical risks of unchecked ambition. Along the way, I'll weave in Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER (because of course I'm never not going to drop a reference to BR when I have the chance), exploring what it means to exist when identity, consciousness, and even the soul can be manufactured.ALIEN EARTH isn't just about monsters—it's about us, the monsters we may already be, and the uncertain future we're building.Thank you for listening! Apologies for any audio issues, we recorded with a different headset and a different website. This month Steve and Chris are checking out 3 new shows which all live in Disney +... sort of. Well Hulu is merging into Disney Plus, but a lot of Hulu content is already on Disney +, and while America is not getting Star, most other countries can watch these titles on Disney + Star already. So, Good luck, but you can probably find the shows on Disney+ one way or another. First off right around 3:00 we talk about season 14 of King of the Hill (a rare case where we've watched more than just t he first episode) and well, we love it. at 30:00 we talk briefly about Eyes of Wakanda and dig into it's history and how doing a "Wakanda in mythological history" show came off. Then at 39:00 we deep dive into Episode one of the new FX/Hulu/Noah Hawley show Alien:Earth. And there is a lot to talk about for a show we're both eager to dive into more. All this plus crossovers and 30 second pitches on the Episode One Podcast
This Tuesday, after host Blaine gives a brief overview (0:02), Adam and Donovan join to give some cursory thoughts into the gripping BritBox series 'Blue Lights,' which is also available on HBO Max (1:02). They offer ideas on how the show subverts expectations. Also in the non-spoiler section which begins each episode, the hosts tease upcoming discussions about 'Alien: Earth' from FX/Hulu (8:25). In spoilers, all three have ideas on the first three episodes of 'Blue Lights' and how it centers on fear in modern Northern Ireland (13:03). For more, visit The Alabama Take website with this link. (Yes). What did we make of the fact that the show splits its attention between two major plotlines? And what about all the information that's revealed about the main characters in the first two episodes? In this episode we interview D. Óg, an Irish Republican and Irish language activist who works with Iskra Books, and their Irish language imprint Bradán Feasa. In this discussion we talk about the Iskra Books publication The Dark: Selected Writings of Brendan Hughes. Hughes, was a former Irish Republican Army volunteer, political prisoner, and Hunger Striker. And while he is a very well known figure within Irish Republican circles and among those who have studied the provisional IRA, some folks may also have become introduced to him through the book and the Fx/Hulu series Say Nothing. In this episode I talk to D a bit about several of The Dark's writings, about the politics of Brendan Hughes, his internationalism, his solidarity with Palestinians, and his lifelong commitment to a 32 county socialist Irish Republic. Along the way we talk about Hughes' response to the so-called Good Friday Agreement, or has Hughes called it “Got F*ck All,” his critiques of the political trajectory of Sinn Féin, and more. We highly recommend you check out this book from the comrades at Iskra Books. As with all their work there is a free pdf version you can download from there website, so do that to check it out, but also I really recommend ordering yourself a physical copy to support their work and to add this beautiful book to your collection. I also just want to mention that if you're interested in conversations about counterinsurgency, Orisanmi Burton and I have released part one of a two part conversation on Frank Kitson and his book Low Intensity Operations, for a brief period Kitson was in charge of the counterrevolutionary campaign against the IRA, as well as counterrevolutionary wars in Kenya against the Mau Mau, and in Malaya. We will link that in the show notes along with some other discussions we've had about Ireland and Irish revolutionary politics over the years. And part two of my conversation with Orisanmi Burton about Kitson's Low Intensity Operations will be this coming Friday at 10 AM Eastern Time (US) on our YouTube channel. A link to that will be in the show notes as well. In addition, we also have a conversation with Mark Neocleous tomorrow Tuesday the 18th at 12:30 PM ET on his new book Pacification: Social War and the Power of Police, and one on Thursday with James Kilgore the new zine he's put together with Vic Liu on Lessons in Global Solidarity. Canadian chef Matty Matheson has been a force in the culinary world for over two decades, but the non-foodies of the world recognize him as Neil Fak, the goofy, handyman-come-waiter-in-training on the FX/Hulu hit series The Bear. Aside from being the show's much-needed comic relief, Matheson is an executive producer and a culinary consultant on set. Matheson first became chef de cuisine in his early 20s and now owns over a dozen restaurants. He also runs an incredibly popular YouTube channel with over 1.5 million subscribers and he's authored three cookbooks – his latest, Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, came out in October. Kara and Matty talk about the good, bad and ugly of the restaurant industry, why he loves both haute cuisine and homestyle cooking and how his YouTube persona changes when he puts on his chef's hat.
