Let's be honest conflict can feel scary. Whether it's with a partner, a friend, a co-worker, or even within ourselves, most of us would rather avoid the awkward conversation and just keep the peace. But what if that's not real peace? In this week's episode of the Positive Talk Podcast, Chuck and Julie take us into one of the most universally challenging topics:CONFLICT: Why We Avoid It & How to Face It.Together, they explore:Why some of us shut down in the face of disagreementHow conflict avoidance may be costing us more than we realizeA biblical view of confrontation, connection, and forgivenessPractical steps to handle conflict with calm, clarity, and courageHow forgiveness frees you, not just the other personIf you've ever walked away from a hard conversation and thought, “There has to be a better way…” this episode is for you.

Pick it up ! Karel Cast 24-176 Face It, You're Not Sorry He's Dead But You're Mad At Wrong People The CEO of United Health Care gets shot in cold blood and the world is shocked at the response from the US citizens on social media. Joy, happiness, justification, rooting for the criminal to get away, thirsting after the shooter…is it the ugly side of America? Or is this the side of humans that's there all along. Let's face it, the guy ran a company that literally causes pain, suffering and kills people. But who is responsible for that, him, United Health Care or Congress? Are we mad at the wrong people? There's a rodeo in Las Vegas, and most of these cowboys don't know they're calling themselves slaves. Why do we keep words around that are rooted in hatred? I still haven't gotten to Christmas. Face It, You Can't Afford to Eat Karel Cast 24-163 A new report is out about how much a family spends to eat in each state in the USA. It ranges from $211 per week, or $844 a month to over $300 a week, or $1200 a month. In CA it's $297 a week and Nevada $295. What do you do when food costs as much as rent per month? Cut back, that's what. So, what are you buying these days, and NOT buying. And is there any relief in sight for this? I've spent the last few days in depression, fear, anticipation...looking at various spots in the world I could flee to because of what's happening in Washington. Is there a very real danger, or do I just need to get more involved in life and ignore what's going on? The USA is going to swing hard right, but it's done it before... Gladiator II is going to dominate the box office. Is this really the time for a film about blood lettings for an emperor and the blood lust of the people? Was hat dazu beigetragen? Wo steht der E-Sport heute? Und wie groß ist das Potenzial für die Zukunft?

In this episode, my guest is Mark Meier, the executive director at Face It, an organisation set up to help men understand and overcome depression and reduce the rate of male suicide. Mark shares his personal struggle with depression. In 2002, he faced severe depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, leading to hospitalisation. His journey of recovery highlights the importance of seeking help and sharing struggles, even when feeling ashamed or burdened. Mark emphasises the significance of talking to someone, reaching out for support, and finding resources to navigate mental health challenges. The stigma surrounding men's mental health is real, but Mark advocates for open conversations, providing care and encouraging men to seek help, irrespective of societal expectations or perceived weakness. Through Face It, Mark offers a safe space for men to share, connect, and receive support without judgment or financial barriers. The podcast delves into strategies for supporting individuals dealing with overwhelming feelings, emphasizing the importance of taking small steps and seeking professional help or reaching out to support groups for guidance. Mark's insights underscore the transformative power of vulnerability, honesty, and the willingness to take that crucial step towards healing and coping with mental health struggles. If you or someone you know is struggling with depression the Face It Foundation website is: https://www.faceitfoundation.org/ or you can email Mark directly at: info@faceitfoundation.org.There are also organisations you can call right now, for example, in the UK, the Samaritans on 116 123, and if you are in the US, you can call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

EPISODE 27 - “Dona Drake: What Price Fame” - 03/18/2024 Latina star DONA DRAKE, who signed a contract with Paramount Pictures in 1941, was many things — singer, dancer, actress, bandleader, musician — but one thing she wasn't, as it turned out, was Latin! While Paramount promoted their new discovery as a spitfire Latina born in Mexico City, Drake was, in fact, an African-American woman from Florida who pretended to be Latin, going so far as to learn Spanish fluently, in order to have a better chance at a Hollywood career. Listen to this fascinating story of one woman who went undercover just so she wouldn't have to play the maid. Do you know the secrets to business growth & wealth creation?
Have you ever had something reallllly painful in your past you don't like to think about? Or maybe its feelings of regret, shame, or guilt? Or maybe, its just a person or situation you'd like to forget about. But whatever it was, it was such a profound moment, you felt the only way to escape it was by running. Whether that be physically, like moving cities or states, OR simply by removing yourself from a certain place or group of people. You just… kind of ran away from it? I'll be honest, I've done both. If there's anything God has shown me in the last few years it's that I'm really good at running and disassociating. So today's topic is one that will take us back to the beginning of the Bible. In an attempt to read the Bible in chronological order this year, I have found myself back in Genesis and I've come across a story that made me think of HOW applicable it is to each of us today. This is (part of) the story of Esau and Jacob. Here are the takeaways I get from this story: As a broken people living in a broken world, we mess up. We make mistakes. Regardless of the size and scope of the pain, we all carry something. And many of us even run. But here's the truth. God will call us back to the point of pain, fear, or shame to FACE IT. See, God loves us so much, that He will call you back to that very thing that almost broke you. He calls you back, not to hurt you, but to heal you. We must face it in order to walk fully into what God has for our future. It takes courage, discipline, and obedience. But do you know what the reward is? It is healing and freedom. We must face it to receive what is on the other side. The future God has for you. Your inheritance. Your peace. Your healing and your freedom. Listen, I know I'm talking to someone today. I don't know how long your journey has been. Maybe you're even like Jacob, who ran for 20 years! I don't know who or what you're running from. But I do know that God is asking you to face it. He is waiting to take your hand and walk with you. Just like Jacob. And it doesn't have to be a graceful thing. It just needs to be done. See, just like us, Jacob was human. In his story, you can see how his reaction is all over the place. First, he panics! He panics at the thought of facing his brother. And then… he prays. He literally repeats back to God what He promised him. He acknowledges that God has sent him back. He even reminds God that He promised him a future! (This was the right thing to do)! WE should do the same! But then… what does he do? He takes it back into his own hands. He starts planning what HE can do. He hedges his bets by sending herd after herd of livestock as gifts. In hopes of softening his brother's heart. As if he didn't just take the matter to God!! But.. such is our nature. This is where the final showdown happens. Jacob wrestles with God. And in the wrestling, he held on. For a blessing. He held on because he knew God was in it and if God was in it, His word was in it, too. His word for a future. When the wrestling was over, Jacob was given a new name. Makes me think about us. About how sometimes when we face a thing. When we waffle back and forth, hedge our bets, wrestle with God…and come out the other side.. we are new. We are changed. We may walk with a limp, but we will never forget the path that brought us back. Back into the fullness and freedom God called us to all along. If that is you today, sweet friend, I pray you'll have the courage this year to face it. It's okay to feel all the things. It's okay to panic, to pray, to plan, to wrestle.. just as long as you face it. Remember, God wouldn't call you to it, if He wouldn't see you through it. Not just see you through it but see you healed and restored. Just as Jacob was returned to his home land and restored back to his promised inheritance. There's an inheritance for you. Just on the other side.

In 2022, ESL Gaming and FACEIT merged to create one of esports' most important companies: ESL FACEIT Group (EFG). This operating group, fully owned by Saudi Arabia's Savvy Games Group, manages esports tournaments (via ESL), gaming festivals (via Dreamhack), a platform for superior PvP play (via FACEIT), and gaming audience management tools (via Vindex, acquired this year). In this episode, we chat with EFG's co-CEOs, Craig Levine and Niccolo Maisto, about how this company came together, how esports has evolved in recent years, and what it's like operating within Savvy Games. We also discuss how merging has unlocked a larger vision with new growth opportunities, EFG's aspiration to grow “beyond play,” and what both leaders learned from integrating different teams and managing esports' never-ending change over the past few years. This episode is also part one in a three part series about Savvy Games Group, which continues to deploy its $38 billion in dedicated capital. The first CD Sadie Dupuis saved up her own money to purchase was "Let's Face It" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The first concert she begged her mom to take her to was No Doubt. And on a recent NPR segment, Sadie talked about the huge influence The Selecter's Pauline Black had on her. Pauline, through example, taught her that music could be a political toolThese days Sadie plays in the indie-rock band Speedy Ortiz, and she also releases music under the moniker Sad13. But she hasn't forgotten about her love for ska. In fact, she makes a plea to JER for a Sadie Dupuis / Skatune Network collaboration. (Hopefully, you're listening JER!) We also get into a lot more, like how Sadie's parents worked at record labels in the 70s. Her mom worked at the UK ska/reggae label Rock Steady Records. We talk about how The Specials' "Ghost Town" is a perfect song, we discuss the ska leanings of 100 gecs. And she talks about sending an AIM message to I Voted For Kodos. We also talk about booking MySpace tours, Sinéad O'Connor, and her love for Weezer. (Her favorite non-album track is "Blast Off!!"). We also talk about a ska band Sadie played in when she was a kid called "Walker Exists." They had no bass player! (She also mentions the ska band that Kevin Bacon's kid used to play in.) We talk about her songwriting process, fostering dogs, and get into the 2 Tone ska influences on the Brit-pop genre. But most importantly, she tells us her AOL and AIM screen names from back in the day. They both are ska-related. You may think you'll do anything to close a sports marketing partnership, but how about eating bullfrog soup? That's what this episode's guest Yao Williams did once. (Yes, just the once). Currently the VP of Global Partnerships for eSports juggernaut ESL FACEIT Group, Yao's path through the sports business world has been a remarkable one. He started out like so many of us do in this industry: in ticket sales. But his unique blend of grit, competitiveness, and thoughtfulness is what has put him at the center of one of the most dynamic parts of this industry today. In this episode, Yao and I talk about his origin story in sports business, and the skill sets he employed to aid his rise. We discuss how those same skill sets helped him succeed in China, a country he'd never visited or had any language skills. We also review the state of the ever shifting eSports business, and where he sees that industry headed. Oh, and he provides some tips on what to do if ever served that steaming helping of bullfrog soup. So bon appetit.

In this episode, she shares 6 steps to FACE your pain and accept yourself for who you've become.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones had the biggest ska-punk hit of the '90s. Their song "The Impression That I Get" was huge and made them legit stars for a while. But they were a band that earned it. They got their start in the 80s, signed to Taang Records in 1989, got a major label deal in 1993 and released several records before hitting it big with their 1997 record Let's Face It. Not to mention, they were a huge influence on the sound of US ska-punk in the 90s. Today, we talk to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' bassist Joe Gittleman (aka the Bass Fiddleman). He tells us stories from the Bosstones year, working at SideOneDummy in the 2000s, producing Big D and the Table's "Strictly Rude" record, playing in Gang Green and he gives us his side perspective regarding The Bosstones' breakup last year. He also talks about playing Lollapalooza in 1995, quitting drinking, and Bouncing Souls covering his song "Lean On Sheena" from his other band Avoid One Thing, and how the song ended up being one of the Souls most popular songs. We talk about Brian Fallon and Gaslight Anthem's landmark record The 59 Sound, playing Warped Tour and the significance of seeing Fishbone play in the 80s. Plus we talk about Joe's upcoming Wavebreaker release on Bad Time Records with the great Bad Operation. You're going to want to grab a copy ASAP! Support the show

Niccolo Maisto and Michele Attisani founded FACEIT in 2011, together with their third co-founder, Alessandro Avallone and the company grew to become the world's largest eSports platform in the world. It hosts competitive gamings for egames, like Counterstrike and Dota 2. In 2021, FACEIT was acquired by Savvy Games in a deal, valued at $500 million, and then merged with ESL gaming in a deal that was itself valued at $1.5 billion. One of the pillars of FACEIT's success as been the incredibly strong community that the company built amongst gamers especially, but also game developers and content creators. To quote Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit on this topic, who said, "Community is everything, it's what helps companies thrive and survive and it, and it's what's keep and what keeps people engaged and coming back". Today, there are more than 30 million users playing over 30 million game sessions each month on FACEIT. So we think we have the right experts to cover the topic. Power Quotes From The Show Meet A Part Of Yourself "Any single thing I don't like about my day, or an interaction, or a direction that my life is going in, for me is an opportunity to meet a part of myself." - Kelly Brogan MD Judgment + Choice = Discernment "Judgment + choice = discernment. When you recognize that you don't like something, you're judging it. And when you can see that you have choices, you're actually taking responsibility for what you control. Then you can exercise discernment which is basically: "Does this work for me or does it not work for me?" It helps us to smoke out where it is that we're power-overing and it's never more relevant than in the area of parenting."- Kelly Brogan MD Get Real With Yourself "I have had an opportunity to recognize where I am sourcing something that's not available and semi-insisting that it should be and that can lead to ruptures where both parties are seeing that something is not working here. That is the opportunity for me to get real with myself and to say with a sober mind, sober heart, and sober eyes: 'What are my choices here? Can I interact with this painful process without needing the individuals that I'm in dynamic with to be bad and wrong? What if they're not bad and wrong?' And yet I still get to choose to exit and express my needs. I get to choose to make requests. I have all sorts of choices and I would never be aware of those choices if my energy was focused on being right and on how wronged I've been." - Kelly Brogan MD Links From Today's Show Kelly Brogan, MD Sovereignty Series - 20% off with code "JOSH20" Own Your Self: The Surprising Path beyond Depression, Anxiety, and Fatigue to Reclaiming Your Authenticity, Vitality, and Freedom by Kelly Brogan, MD Karpman Drama Triangle 535 Aaron Abke: The Law of ONE + How To Live In Love's Alignment Wild Wild Country Graham Hancock Sovereignty Seres American Circumcision Tom Cowan Om Rupani The Surrendered Wife: A Practical Guide To Finding Intimacy, Passion and Peace by Laura Doyle The Way of the Superior Man: A Spiritual Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Women, Work, and Sexual Desire by David Deida Dr. Stan Tatkin 463 JP Sears | This Is How Media HIJACKS Your Mind: Stop Censoring Yourself & Heal The Tyrant Within Daily Mail: Disney executive who is the mother of a transgender and a pansexual child wants at least half of ALL future characters to be LGBTQIA or racial minorities Mike Dillard Jordan Peterson Aubrey Marcus No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model by Dick Schwartz Parts Work: An Illustrated Guide to Your Inner Life by Tom Holmes Existential Kink: Unmask Your Shadow and Embrace Your Power by Carolyn Elliott Shop the Wellness Force Media Store breathwork.io MANNA Vitality - Save 20% with the code "JOSH20" Mendi.io - Save 20% with the code "JOSH20" HIGHER DOSE INFRARED MAT, RED LIGHT FACE MASK, SAUNA BLANKET - Get 15% off with the code “JOSH15“ (link + code must be used together for discount) Cured Nutrition CBD - Save 20% with the CODE "WELLNESSFORCE" PLUNGE – Save $150 with the code “WELLNESSFORCE" LiftMode - Save 10% with the code "JOSH10" Organifi – Special 20% off to our listeners with the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' HVMN - Get 20% off your Ketone IQ order with the code "JOSH" MitoZen – Save 10% with the code “WELLNESSFORCE” NOOTOPIA - Save 10% with the code "JOSH10" ActivationProducts – Save 20% with the code “WELLNESSFORCE” NEUVANA - Save 15% with the code “WELLNESSFORCE” SENSATE - Save $25 on your order with the code "JOSH25" DRY FARM WINES - Get an extra bottle of Pure Natural Wine with your order for just 1¢ CHILISLEEP - Save 25% on Josh's favorite ChiliSleep products with the code "JOSH" ION - Save 15% off sitewide with the code ‘JOSH1KS' TOUPS - Save 15% with the code "JOSH" Feel Free from Botanic Tonics – Save $40 when you use the code ‘WELLNESS40′ Drink LMNT – Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, with any purchase BREATHE - Save 20% by using the code “PODCAST20” Essential Oil Wizardry: Save 10% with the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' MY GREEN MATTRESS - Save up to $125 on your order with the code "JOSH" NEUROHACKER - Save 15% with the code "WELLNESSFORCE" ALIVE WATER - Save 33% on your first order with the code "JOSH33" M21 Wellness Guide Wellness + Wisdom Community Leave Wellness + Wisdom a review on Apple Podcasts Dr. Kelly Brogan Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube About Kelly Brogan MD Dr. Kelly Brogan is a holistic psychiatrist, author of the NY Times Bestselling book, A Mind of Your Own, Own Your Self, the children's book, A Time For Rain, and co-editor of the landmark textbook, Integrative Therapies for Depression. As traditional investors turn their eyes away from esports, Saudi Arabia is continuing its aggressive acquisition of esports companies. In January 2022, Savvy Gaming Group, a subsidiary of the state-backed Public Investment Fund, acquired independent tournament organizers ESL and FACEIT for $1.5 billion, merging the two competitors into one and forming a super group. Now, just over a year later, that company's purchased Vindex, who are the owners of one of their competitors, Esports Engine. With that acquisition, the Saudi government holds a near monopoly on esports that aren't run by the game developers and publishers. This week on the pod, veteran esports journalist Richard Lewis and Washington Post editor Mikhail Klimentov, who've been covering the stories, joined to discuss the dangers a Saudi-backed monopoly on the esports industry. Let's Face It, No One Wants To Talk About Mental Health - The topic has many stigmasMany people are afraid to share with coworkers because they worry about being judged, or worse, that they could lose their job. Even friends and family are often left in the dark, unaware of how symptoms of conditions such as depression and PTSD affect our daily lives.News, television programs, and films often show people with mental illness as dangerous. Research shows news outlets are more likely to cover dramatic crimes committed by people with mental illness instead of similar crimes done by those who are not formally diagnosed. In 2019, 1 in every 8 people, or 970 million people around the world were living with a mental disorder, with anxiety and depressive disorders the most common. In 2020, that number rose by almost 30% in just one year. While effective prevention and treatment options exist, most people with mental disorders do not have access to effective care. Many people also experience stigma, discrimination, and violations of human rights. What You Can Do To Help Reduce Mental Health StigmaResearchers have identified three ways to combat stigma:Educate yourself and others about mental illnessProtest against unfair depictions of mental illnessInteract with people who experience mental illnessSo for that reason, I have the pleasure of bringing to this podcast a very accomplished woman that is devoted to changing the conversation around mental health. Sarah Fay was diagnosed with six different mental health disorders and finding no relief led her to write her journalistic memoir: Pathological. With her we talk about :How are mental diagnoses created, what they are good for and what they are not good forThe stigmas attached to mental health issues, and how to helpHow to switch the conversation around mental illnesses. How she uses reframing the symptoms she feels to help herself navigate better through a crisis. We talk about whether social media has an effect on mental illnesses and the answer will surprise youHow some mental illnesses can be curedHow do we measure success and a full lifeTwo questions she uses to not feel overwhelmed with society's pressure about success and recoveryThe importance of family support and what she recommends for those that don't have it.The importance of celebrating. What she currently does to deal with her panic attacksThe importance of recognizing your own signalsAnd so much more. These are conversations we need to have, so we can all contribute to mental health.Thank you so much for sharing your LOVE for the Podcast by sharing it with Friends, Subscribing, Rating & Leaving a Review.
