THIS WEEK IN CELTIC MUSIC 0:09 - Amelia Hogan "No Irish Need Apply" from Transplants: From the Old to the New 5:02 - WELCOME 8:14 - Dropkick Murphys "Who'll Stand With Us?" from For The People (Expanded Edition) 12:03 - Bealtaine "Worker's Song" from Factories & Mills, Shipyards & Mines Written by Ed Pickford in the mid-1970s as a direct response to arguments blaming Britain's economic woes on workers rather than the wealthy. That's a typical tactic that continues today. If we want free and fair elections, we will stop letting billionaires buy our politicians. The was first recorded by Scottish legend Dick Gaughan in 1981, it's been taken up by everyone from the Dropkick Murphys to The Longest Johns. 16:22 - Ed Miller "Blood upon the Grass" from Generations of Change In 1977, Scotland traveled to Chile to play a friendly match at the very stadium where, just four years earlier, Pinochet's regime had tortured and killed political prisoners after the 1973 coup. Back in Scotland, a powerful solidarity campaign urged the Scottish Football Association to pull their team from what would become known as the 'Match of Shame.' Folk singer Adam McNaughtan captured that outrage in his song 'Blood Upon the Grass,' and Edinburgh-born singer Ed Miller later recorded it on his album Generations of Change — keeping this powerful story alive for new generations. 19:16 - Black 47 "San Patricio Brigade" from Rise Up and The Secret World of Celtic Rock 24:18 - FEEDBACK The Great Hunger in Ireland took place from 1845 to 1852. Irish immigrants migrated to the U.S. They were treated as second-class citizens. There are still newspapers that refer to them as lazy and criminals, thus the "No Irish Need Apply" song at the start of the show. These were hungry people. They were just looking for opportunities in a new land. Much like the immigrants of today. But they too were treated inhumanely. They were demonized. So when the Mexican-American War broke out from 1846-1848, many Irish looked at how poorly they were treated in America. They found greater kinship to their Catholic cousins in Mexico. That's why the Saint Patrick's Battalion was formed. Interestingly, it wasn't just Irish Catholics. There were Catholics from throughout Europe in the battalion including: German, Canadian, English, French, Italian, Polish, Scottish, Spanish, Swiss and Mexican. These were people who were attacked and belittled for their culture and their faith. It should serve as a warning and a reminder for all of us today. 30:04 - David Rovics "St. Patrick Battalion" from Historic Times 32:58 - Wild Colonial Bhoys "Dying Rebel" from Century A song that reflects on the human cost of rebellion rather than the glorification of the conflict and the martyrdom of its leaders. Here's what history keeps teaching us. People don't start out wanting to fight. They start out wanting to be heard. On January 30, 1972, in Derry, Northern Ireland, somewhere between ten and fifteen thousand people joined a peaceful civil rights march. They weren't armed. They were protesting the British government's policy of locking people up without trial. Sort of like what's happening in America now. British paratroopers opened fire. Thirteen people were killed. Fourteen others were wounded. The incident caused widespread anger and led to a surge in IRA recruitment. The argument was simple and devastating: peaceful protest could no longer achieve change. I hope to God America never comes to that. But peaceful protesters were murdered in Minneapolis. I lost a fan because I took my kids to a peaceful No Kings Protest last summer. When the state fires on and demonizes its own people, it doesn't end the resistance. It just changes its shape. That's the lesson history keeps trying to teach us. I hope we don't need to learn that the hard way. So please keep peacefully protesting 37:46 - BREAK 39:10 - Eddie Biggins "The Rising of the Moon" from Hey, I'm Singing Over Here! 41:29 - The Haar "Óró Sé Do Bheatha' Bhaile" from The Lost Day "Óró sé do bheatha abhaile" sounds like a joyful welcome song — and once, it was. The original Irish tune dates back centuries, used to greet returning chieftains and even Bonnie Prince Charlie. But the version we know today is something altogether fiercer. Around 1910, Patrick Pearse — poet, teacher, and revolutionary — rewrote the lyrics. He replaced the old imagery with a new vision: Gráinne Mhaol, the legendary 16th century pirate queen, sailing home with soldiers to drive the English from Ireland. Pearse was executed after the 1916 Easter Rising. And his words lived on. The song became a rallying cry, a promise that resistance wasn't finished, that Ireland would be free. That's why it's still sung today. Not as nostalgia, but as defiance. Every generation that lifts their voice in this song is answering Pearse's call across more than a hundred years. 48:04 - Marc Gunn & The Dubliners' Tabby Cats "Patriot Game" from Irish Drinking Songs: The Cat Lover's Companion In my opinion, "Patriot Game" is one of the best Irish rebel songs ever written. It cuts deeper than most rebel songs because it doesn't glorify. It questions. It was written by Dominic Behan in 1961. The song is based on the true story of Fergal O'Hanlon, an IRA volunteer killed during a 1957 border raid in County Fermanagh. He was just nineteen years old. But Behan wasn't writing a hero's ballad. He was writing a warning. The song is sung in the voice of a young man who died for a cause he barely understood. Seduced by romantic notions of patriotism before he had the wisdom to weigh the cost. That's the same as putting the party over the country. Our politicians have fallen into that trap. So I want to ask you to reach out to your representatives. Tell them you've had enough of this insanity. 51:12 - THANKS Back in December, I got an email from Troy of The Secret Commonwealth. He was letting me know about a man who's been part of his community for over 40 years. His friend is being held by ICE for nearly a year. His friend is hospitalized with a serious infection and awaiting heart surgery, all while being denied adequate medical care and due process. He suffers from a cracked vertebra and a history of cardiac issues, yet remains in unsanitary conditions with limited access to clean water or medical attention. My friend said, 'I'm feeling pretty damn rebellious right now,' and honestly, I am too. I'm also sad that I didn't bring this to your attention sooner, especially in the wake of the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis back in Janaury. These are not abstract political issues. These are real people, real families, real communities torn apart. This next song feels like the right response. 'Till Jamie Comes Hame' features traditional words sometimes credited to Robert Burns, with music written by Rob Campbell of the band. And today, it's for everyone waiting for someone to come home. 58:35 - The Secret Commonwealth "Til Jamie Comes Hame" from Last Call 1:02:45 - Redhill Rats "White, Orange and Green" from Some Heroes 1:06:37 - Scythian "Follow Me Up to Carlow" from Immigrant Road Show 1:10:06 - House Of Hamill "Pound A Week Rise" from MARCH THROUGH STORMS 1:14:12 - Medusa's Wake "War of Independence" from War of Independence 1:17:37 - CLOSING "The World Turned Upside Down" was written in 1975, but it reaches back to 1649 — and maybe even further than that. Leon Rosselson based the song on the Diggers, a radical movement in England led by Gerrard Winstanley. After the English Civil War, they began farming common land, declaring simply that the earth belonged to everyone. Not to kings. Not to landlords. Not to those who had seized it by force and called it theirs. They were destroyed for that idea. But here's something worth sitting with. The Irish language doesn't have a word for "to have." You cannot own anything in Irish. Instead, things exist in relationship with you. A book is at you. Hunger is on you. Joy is on you. Even land. Not mine. Just... with me for now. That's not just a quirk of grammar. It's a completely different way of seeing the world. One where ownership itself is the strange idea. The foreign concept. This the idea that declaring land your private property is an act of violence against everyone else. The Diggers lost. The language nearly did too. But both survived. And this song is proof that the idea refuses to die. 1:20:18 - Melanie Gruben "The World Turned Upside Down" from Like a Tide Upon the Land 1:22:37 - CREDITS Support for this program comes from International speaker, Joseph Dumond, teaching the ancient roots of the Gaelic people. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an dara lá de mhí Lúnasa. Is mise Eoin Ó Seachnasaigh.Tá sé fógartha ag gníomhaireacht de chuid na Náisiún Aontaithe go bhfuil 20,000 páiste tugtha isteach i Stráice Gaza le haghaidh cúram éigeandála agus iad ag fulaingt de bharr easpa bia. Tuairiscíodh freisin go bhfuil méadú suntasach ar an líon páistí áta ag fáil bháis agus an t-ocras ina chúis leis. Tá níos mó ná 1,000 Palaistíneach maraithe ag fórsaí Iosrael ó dheireadh mhí na Bealtaine nuair a bhí na híospartaigh ag iarraidh bia a fháil ag ionaid a bhí á reáchtáil ag Iosrael agus na Stáit Aontaithe. Fiú gan na hionsaithe, dar le breathnóirí, ní leor na hionaid chun dul i ngleic leis an ngorta áta le feiceáil ar an talamh. Muna gcuirtear uisce glan, bia ceart agus cúram leighis ar fáil, leanfaidh líon na marbh os cionn na 60,000 bás a tuairiscíodh cheana féin. Tá sé ráite ag tíortha lena n-áirítear Ceanada, an Fhrainc, an Astráil, an Nua-Shéalainn agus an Ríocht Aontaithe go bhfuil siad ag smaoineamh ar aitheantas oifigiúil a thabhairt don Pháilistín, chun brú a chur ar Iosrael stop a chur leis an gcogadh.Ag cruinniú speisialta an tseachtain seo, thug rialtais na hÉireann a cheadú do mhaoiniú úr seacht gcéad milliún chun a thuilleadh tithíocht shóisialta agus acmhainní a sholáthar. Is maoiniú breise é seo anuas ar an airgead a fograíodh le déanaí sa leagan nua den phlean forbartha náisiúnta. Chomh maith leis sin, chun an mheánaicme a shásamh, tá tús curtha ag an rialtais le proiseás comhairliúcháin faoi rialacha pleanála a bhaineann le tithe mórscála. Amach anseo, ní bheidh gá cead pleanála a fháil má chloíonn úinéirí le rialacháin áirithe, mar shampla, má tá gairdín mór go leor ann.Is chun na Ríochta atá Corn Sam Mhig Uighir ag dul i ndiaidh an bhua chuimsithigh a fuair Ciarraí in aghaidh Dhún na nGall i gCluiche Ceannais Peile na hÉireann. Bhí deich bpointe idir an dá fhoireann ag an bhfheadóg dheireanach, le cúl agus sé pointe is fiche scóráilte ag an Ríocht agus naoi bpointe déag scóráilte ag na fir ón iarthuaisceart. Mar a thuar go leor tráchtairí, bhí an tionchar ba láidre ag David Clifford, go háirithe sa chéad leath, nuair a d'aimsigh sé trí scor dhá phointe chun Ciarraí a chur i gceannas go compordach. Ach cé go raibh Clifford ina laoch, ní raibh sé ina aonar. Ba é a dheartháir Paudie a bhí ina cheannaire i lár na páirce agus threoraigh sé ionsaithe Chiarraí ar bhealach nárbh fhéidir le cosantóirí Dhún na nGall déileáil leis. In ainneoin taispeántas cróga ó Michael Murphy, a fuair ocht bpointe ar an lá, bhí lúth na ngéag caillte ag a fhoireann faoin am a scóráil Joe O'Connor an t-aon chúl den chluiche sa nóiméad deireanach. Tá naoi chraobh is tríocha buaite ag Ciarraí i stair an chomórtais anois.*gníomhaireacht - agencyag fulaingt de bharr easpa bia - suffering from starvationmaoiniú breise - extra fundingproiseás comhairliúcháin - consultation processlúth na ngéag - swiftness of limbs
Léiríonn figiúirí atá faighte ag an bhFeisire Ní Mhurchú faoin Acht um Shaoráil Faisnéise, go raibh 800 ciontóir gnéis i bpríosúin na tíre ag deireadh mhí na Bealtaine i mbliana - sin méadú 16% i gcomparáid leis an mbliain roimhe sin.

An album pin is a lapel pin with artwork inspired by a specific album or song from an album. It could be the actual album artwork or it could be inspired by a specific track on the album. The best album pins stand out on their own. They appeal to more than just your fans. It is simple, bold, and visually engaging. This particular conversation is between our Co-Artistic Producer Ryan Borochovitz and Beatriz Lôbo Campos the Program Manager for the Canada Ireland Foundation. They discuss the recently wrapped the inaugural Bealtaine Theatre Festival, which ran from April 25 to May 25, 2025, the contemporary Irish theatre, the intricacies of programming, and the carnivalesque spirit of seeing weird stuff a theatre festival. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an seachtú lá de mhí an Mheithimh. Is mise Siubhán Nic Amhlaoibh.Tá an suíomh UNESCO Sceilg Mhichíl, a bhfuil clú agus cáil air mar shampla de lonnaíocht luath-chreidimh, le hathoscailt aríst inniu, i ndiaidh conspóid dlí maidir le ceadúnais bháid a ghlacann daoine anonn agus anall ón oileán. Bíonn an t-oileán, a bhí ina shuíomh scannánaíochta sna scannáin Star Wars, druidte i rith an gheimridh, idir mí Mheán Fómhair agus mí Aibreáin. Osclaíonn an suíomh aríst don tréimhse úr samhraidh gach bliain i lár mhí na Bealtaine, ach tháinig moill ar an oscailt i mbliana mar gheall ar an chonspóid seo, inar ghlac dhá chomhlacht nar éirigh leo i gcomórtas d'oibreoirí báid éileamh dlíthiúil chuig an ardchúirt. Agus an cás seo beo, cuireadh bac ar aon oibreoir báid seirbhís a chur ar fáil chuig an oileán. Dúirt an tAire Norma Moriarty go bhfuil faoiseamh le mothú sa phobal i ndiaidh an chinnidh seo. “Níl aon áibhéil faoin tionchar a bhí ag an chinneadh seo ar an cheantar. Bhí sé ríthábhachtach gur athosclaíodh an suíomh. Is é an príomháit turasóireachta sa cheantar é agus bhí gnólachtaí ag fulaingt mar gheall ar a dhúnadh,” a dúirt sí.An tseachtain seo, chuir Uachtarán na Stát Aontaithe Donald Trump cosc ar dhaoine ag taisteal ó thíortha eagsúla go dtí na Stáit Aontaithe. Chuir foireann an Tí Bháin síos ar an pholasaí seo mar “choscanna ciallmhara” a dhéanfadh Meiriceánaigh a chosaint ó eachtrannaigh chontúirteacha. Is é seo an dara huair a chuir an tUachtarán Trump cosc ar an taisteal. Agus é ina chéad téarma in 2017, chuir sé cosc ar an taisteal, agus tháinig éileamh dlíthiúil mar gheall air. Rinne an tUachtarán Biden é a aisghairm in 2021. I measc na dtíortha a bhfuil tionchar ag an bheartas seo orthu ná an Afganastáin, Maenmar, Sead, Poblacht an Chongó, an Ghuine Mheánchiorclach, an Eiritré, Háítí, an Iaráin, an Libia, an tSomáil, an tSúdáin agus Éimin. Tá leathchosc tagtha ar thíortha eile mar chuid den bheartas seo, Tóga, Laos, Cúba agus Siarra Leon san áireamh. Shéan urlabhraí ón Teach Bhán gur beartas frith-Mhoslamach atá ann.Tá Mark Shields, imreoir CLG le Contae Ard Mhacha agus buaiteoir Chraobh na hÉireann anuraidh, i ndiaidh a thaithí ar theacht amach mar dhuine aerach a roinnt go poiblí i ndiaidh deich mbliana ag imirt leis an chontae. I bhfíseán a roinneadh ag ócáid Bhróid a d'eagraigh Cumann na nImreoirí Gaelacha, rinne sé cur síos ar an dúshlán a bhí roimhe teacht amach i dtimpeallacht CLG atá faoi thionchar na bhfear. Mar sin féin, luaigh sé fosta an t-athrú dearfach atá tagtha ar an chultúr, agus thug le fíos go bhfuil dearcadh laistigh de ghrúpa Ard Mhacha agus laistigh den CLG níos tuisceanaí ná mar a bhí blianta ó shin. Aithníonn Shields go bhfuil athrú tagtha ar an teanga agus ar an tacaíocht laistigh den ghrúpa, agus go bhfuil comhoibritheoirí ag seasamh an fhóid le daoine aeracha ar bhealach nach raibh siad ariamh roimhe seo. Agus a scéal féin á roinnt, tá sé ag súil go gcuideoidh sé le himreoirí eile—fir, mná nó daoine neamh-dhénartha— béim a leagan ar a gcultúir féin agus a bheith tacaithe agus sábháilte. Chomh maith leis sin, chuir Shields béim ar an tábhacht atá le daoine iontaofa, cosúil lena dheirfiúr agus lena pháirtí féin, chun comhráite pearsanta a dhéanamh. *Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. Ba do chlár a craoladh ó oileán Árainn Mhór i mí na Bealtaine anuraidh a bronnadh an gradam. Ba í Michelle Nic Grianna a láithrigh an clár agus ba é Dónall Mac Ruairí a léirigh an clár.
Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an t-aonú lá is tríocha de mhí na Bealtaine. Is mise Gwyneth Nic Aidicín Ní Loingsigh.Leanann an t-uafás sa Phalaistín agus brú ar rialtais an domhain ag fás gach lá chun smachtbhannaí a chur ar Iosrael. Níl aon bhia ná cúnamh ag dul isteach go Gaza fós. Tá plean sos cogaidh ó Stáit Aontaithe Mheiriceá faoi bhreithniú faoi láthair, den chéad uair ón sos cogaidh ar theip air i mí an Mhárta. Ghlac Iosraelleis an bplean agus tá freagra foirmiúil fós le teacht ó Hamas ach dúirt urlabhraí nach ngeallann an beart sos cogaidh buan ná go leor soláthar cúnaimh. Sa Ríocht Aontaithe scríobh 828 saineolaí dlí litir chuig an bPríomh-Aire Keir Starmer ag lua go bhfuil cinedhíothú ag tarlú agus ag cur brú ar an rialtas úsáid abhaint as gach acmhainn atá ar fáil chun stop a chur leis. In Éirinn, cáineadh an rialtas as an easpa gníomh dleathúil i gcoinne Iosrael. Chuaigh bean as Gaillimh, Sophie Ní Choimín ar stailc ocrais le brú a chur orthu an Bille Críoch FaoiFhorghabháil a hachtú. I rith na seachtaine fuarthas ceadú sa Dáil cosc a chur ar iompórtáil ón Iosrael, ach baineann sé seo le táirgí amháin agus níl seirbhisí san áireamh, cé gurb iadsan a dhéanann an chuid is mó d'iomportáil ó Iosrael go hÉirinn.Tháinig rialú ón gCúirt um Thrádáil Idirnáisiúnta sna Stáit Aontaithe Dé Céadaoin, ina ndúradh go bhfuil an chuid is mó de na táillí atá an tUachtarán Trump ag achtú neamhdhleathach. Ghlac an Chúirt Achomhairc Fheidearálaigh le hiarracht ó riarachán Trump sos sealadach a chur ar an rialú seo, agusleanfaidh siad ag bailiú cánach don am seo. Tá sos curtha ar roinnt dualgas an riaracháin agus idirbheartaíocht trádála ar siúl, agus beidh an chéad éisteacht eile ar siúl ar an 5ú Meitheamh. Ceaptar go rachfaidh an cás go dtí an Chúirt Uachtarach. Dúirt Peter Navarro, comhairleoir trádála Trump, “fiú má chaillfimid (sa chúirt), déanfaimid iad (na táillí) i slí éígin eile.”Tá chuid den sráidbhaile Blatten san Eilvéis scriosta tar éis intitim oighearshrutha Dé Céadaoin. Tá duine amháin ar iarraidh agus tá an-chuid tithe scriosta. Tá tacaíocht ó rialtas na hEilvéise, ag cinntiú go mbeidh daoine in ann filleadh ar a mbaile, nó an ceantar ara laghad. Toradh athrú aeráide an tubaiste seo, agus teochtaí ag ardú tá na oighearshruthanna agus talamh síorshioctha sa cheantar ag leá. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an ceathrú lá fichead de mhí na Bealtaine. Is mise Eoin Ó Seachnasaigh.Tá gorta faoi lán seoil in Gaza. Tá sé fógartha ag ceannaire gnóthaí daonnúla na Náisiún Aontaithe, Stephen Fletcher, go bhféadfadh 14,000 páiste bás a fháil mura gcuirtear bia ar fáil dóibh láithreach. In ainneoin cáineadh forleathan ón bpobal idirnáisiúnta, níor cheadaigh Iosrael ach naoi leoraí cúnaimh isteach i nGaza, cé go bhfuil níos mó ná 2.3 milliún duine ocrach le beagnach trí mhí. I dteachtaireacht físe ar na meáin shóisialta, dúirt Príomh-aire Iosrael, Benjamin Netanyahu, go bhfuil Iosrael chun smacht a fháil ar Gaza ar fad. Mar gheall ar an ngéarchéim atá ag dul in olcas, cháin Príomh-aire na Ríochta Aontaithe, Keir Starmer, Iosrael agus é ag labhairt os comhair na parlaiminte níos luaithe sa tseachtain. Bíodh sin mar atá, sheachain sé úsáid a bhaint as na focail ‘glanadh eitneach' nó ‘cinedhíothú', agus níor gheall sé ach oiread go stopfadh sé ag díol arm le hIosrael.Tá fáilte curtha ag Gaeilgeoirí i dTuaisceart na hÉireann roimh an gcinneadh tuairim is 100 comhartha dhátheangacha a chur suas i gContae an Dúin agus i gContae Ard Mhacha. Cé go raibh polaiteoirí Aontachtacha ina choinne le sé bliana, tá sé deimhnithe anois ag an dá chomhairle contae go mbeidh na comharthaí le feiceáil go luath. Leanann sé seo le polasaí na gcomhairlí contae an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn. Úsáidtear comharthaí dátheangacha cheana féin ar fhoirgnimh údaráis áitiúil sna ceantair seo. Tagann an scéal seo ag an am céanna go bhfuil mic léinn ag Ollscoil na Banríona agus Ollscoil Uladh ag éileamh comharthaí Gaeilge ar an gcampas.Tá painéal imreoirí roghnaithe ag bainisteoir fhoireann sacair ban na hÉireann, Carla Ward, don dá chluiche dheireanacha i Sraith na Náisiún. Imreofar an chéad chluiche in aghaidh na Tuirce thall in Iostanbúl an deireadh seachtaine seo chugainn, agus beidh siad ar ais sa bhaile an tseachtain dár gcionn in aghaidh na Slóivéine i gCorcaigh. Má tá seans ar bith acu críochnú ar bharr an ghrúpa, caithfidh siad an dá chluiche a bhuachaint. Tá Erin Healy, tosaí le Adelaide United san Astráil, ar an bpainéal den chéad uair riamh, chomh maith le Louise Quinn sula n-éireoidh sí as sacar gairmiúil go hiomlán. Go n-éirí go geal leis an mbeirt acu, agus leis an bhfoireann uilig.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an seachtú lá déag de mhí na Bealtaine. Is mise Alanna Ní Ghallachóir. Cuireadh breith ar neamhní tar éis fianaise nua ADN a léiriú, agus 38 bliain caite ag fear i ngéibheann i gcás dúnmharaithe mná. Fuarthas Peter Sullivan ciontach sa bhliain 1986 maidir le dúnmharú Diane Sindall, bean óg a ndearnadh tromionsaí gnéasach uirthi agus í ag siúl abhaile tar éis seal ag obair i mbeár. Dé réir ráiteas a léigh a dhlíodóir, dúirt an tUasal Ó Sullivan “níl fearg orm, nílim searbh”. Agus í ag labhairt i ndiaidh na héisteachta, dúirt deirfiúr Sullivan, Kim Smith, “nach raibh an bua ag éinne” agus chuir sí comhbhá in iúl do mhuintir Iníon Uí Sindall. Rinne Médecins San Frontières cáineadh ar Iosrael maidir le “tubaiste dhaonnúil d'aon ghnó” a chruthú agus chuir an carthanas iomardú ar Iosrael faoi chuidiú coinníollach ar easáitiú éigeantach na bPalaistíneach a chothú. “Tá muid inár bhfinnéithe, lom láithreach, ag cruthaíocht coinníollacha le deireadh a chur le saol na bPalaistíneach in Gaza,” a dhearbhaigh an charthúnacht leighis MSF. “Tá ifreann ar talamh cruthaithe in Gaza do na Palaistínigh.” Chuir Iosrael imshuí i bhfeidhm ar Gaza ar an 2 Márta nuair a theip ar chainteanna a bhí dírithe ar fad a chur le sos cogaidh agus Iosrael tar éis tús a chur le hionsaithe ar Gaza arís. Mac léinn as Baile Átha Cliath a bhí i gceannas ar fhoireann ó Ollscoil Cambridge a fuair an bua i gceann de na comórtais is measúla agus ina bhfuil an iomaíocht is géire ar an teilifís. B'é Oscar Despard a bhí ina chaptaen ar fhoireann Choláiste Chríost in Cambridge, nuair a thug siad an lá leo i gcluiche ceannais University Challenge oíche Dé Luain seo a chuaigh thart. Dálta ilchumasach a bhí ann, de réir a iarphríomhoide, Edith Byrne, agus bhí sé go mór mór gnóthach i ndíospóireachtaí trí Ghaeilge, trí Bhéarla, agus trí Fhraincis, agus é ar meánscoil. Ba mhian a chroí é páirt a ghlacadh sa tráth na gceist cáiliúil, ar a mbíodh sé ag amharc lena mháthair le linn a óige.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. It is May which means a whole host of things from Bealtaine to the emergence of the Oak King and Holly King, the Green Man, Persephone, the May Queen and other figures associated with rebirth and fertility. So, in honour of these celebrations and folk figures, we turn to the Welsh Mabinogion, a collection of stories from the 12th-13th centuries. Our first story is the abduction of Creiddylad and our second is the creation of the flower queen, Blodeuwedd. Inniu an deichiú lá de mhí na Bealtaine. Is mise Oisín Mac Conamhna.Toghadh Robert Prevost mar Pápa Leo a Ceathair Déag, ag an gceathrú vóta de chomhthionóil na gcairdinéal sa Séipéal Sistíneach sa Róimh Déardaoin. Is eisean an dá chéad seachtó seachtú Pápa ó Pheadar. Is as Chicago dó, an chéad Phápa as na Stáit Aontaithe, agus chaith sé cuid mhór dá shaol i bPeiriú. Rinne an Pápa Proinsias easpag de in 2014, agus cairdinéal de in 2023. Nuair a fógraíodh é tar éis an toghcháin, labhair sé in Iodáilís, in Spáinnís, agus i Laidin. Tá leid i rogha a ainm phápaigh go mbeidh an ceartas sóisialta ina théama tábhachtach dá phápacht. Tá cáil ar an bPápa Leo deireanach, a Trí Déag, as a imlitir Rerum Novarum, a chuir cearta an lucht oibre go lárnach i dteagasc na heaglaise Rómánaí.Tá cluiche ceannais camógaíochta na Mumhan idir Corcaigh agus Port Láirge curtha siar ag Camógaíocht na Mumhan, mar tá an dá fhoireann ag diúltú scórtaí a chaitheamh. Bhi agóid eile faoin cheist an deireadh seachtaine seo caite, nuair a d'fheistigh foirne Bhaile Átha Cliath agus Chill Cheannaigh chun cluiche ag caitheamh brístí gearra, acht bhí orthu na bristí gearra a athrú go scórtaí sular cuireadh tús leis an gcluiche. An babhta seo tá na himreoirí uilig go soiléir nach nglacfaidh siad leis na scórtaí in aon chur. Beidh comhdháil speisialta ag an gCumann Camógaíochta ar an dara lá is fiche den mhí seo, chun riail na scórtaí éigeantacha a phlé.Bhuaigh Zhao Xintong craobh an domhain sa snúcar in Amharclann an Bhreogáin in Sheffield Dé Luain, an chéad bhuaiteoir ón tSín riamh. Bhuaigh sé ocht bhfráma dhéag in aghaidh a dó dhéag i gcoinne Mark Williams, iarchuradh ón mBreatain Bheag, sa chluiche ceannais; agus bhuaigh sé ar Ronnie O'Sullivan, duine de na himreoirí snúcair is fearr riamh, le seisiún le spáráil sa chluiche leathcheannais. Dar le máthair Zhao, toisc nach raibh sé ró-ard nuair a raibh sé ina ghasúr, bhí nós aige cleachtadh ag caitheamh scataí rollála, mar gheall ar na horlaí breise a thug siad dó.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. Na Príomhscéalta Náisiúnta, Idirnáisiúnta agus Áitiuil, 5u Bealtaine 2025.
Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an tríú lá de mhí na Bealtaine. Is mise Liam Ó Brádaigh. Sa Spáinn, leantar le himscrúduithe ar cad ba chúis le gearradh cumhachta tubaisteach an tseachtain seo, ceann de na bristeacha leictreachais is mó san Eoraip riamh. De réir anailísithe, thit an mhinicíocht ar eangach leictreachais na Spáinne go tobann, rud a chuir tús le múchadh go leor stáisiún cumhachta. Tá sé ráite ag Príomh-aire na Spáinne, Pedro Sánchez, go bhfuil an rialtas ag fiosrú gach cúis fhéideartha. Mar sin féin, tá polaiteoirí an fhreasúra ag cur an mhilleáin ar spleáchas na Spáinne ar fhuinneamh in-athnuaite. Fágadh thart ar 55 milliún duine sa Spáinn, sa Phortaingéil agus in áiteanna eile i ndeisceart na Fraince gan leictreachas Dé Luain. I measc na ngnéithe den saol ar cuireadh isteach orthu bhí comharthaí soghluaiste, soilse tráchta agus baincéireacht dhigiteach.Tá an grúpa rapcheoil ó Bhéal Feirste Kneecap á fhiosrú ag póilíní frithsceimhlitheoireachta sa Ríocht Aontaithe tar éis físeáin a tháinig chun cinn ina dtaispeántar an banna, de réir líomhaintí, ag iarraidh básanna Feisirí de chuid an Pháirtí Choimeádaigh agus ag béicíl "Up Hamas, up Hezbollah". D'eisigh Kneecap ráiteas ag rá nach nglacann siad leis an bhforéigean agus nach dtacaíonn siad le Hamas ná Hezbollah, ach gur cuireadh feachtas smearaidh orthu mar gheall ar a dtacaíocht leanúnach don Phalaistín agus ar a gcáineadh ar Iosrael. Tá litir oscailte sínithe ag na scórtha de cheoltóirí as Éirinn agus an Ríocht Aontaithe araon ag tacú leis an triúr agus ag rá go raibh “iarracht shoiléir, chomhbheartaithe idir lámha chun cinsireacht a dhéanamh ar an mbanna agus ar deireadh thiar iad a chur ó ardán”.Sna Toghcháin do Theach na dTeachtaí i gCeanada tá téarma eile i gcumhacht faighte ag an bPáirtí Liobrálach. Tá na Liobrálaithe i gcumhacht ó bhí 2015 ann ach seo é an chéad bhua ag an bpáirtí faoin bPríomh-Aire Mark Carney. Oíche Dé Luain labhair Mark Carney faoi theannas leanúnach taidhleoireachta agus eacnamaíoch le Stáit Aontaithe Mheiriceá agus a n-uachtarán, ag rá, “Tá an tUachtarán Trump ag iarraidh sinn a bhriseadh ionas go mbeimid i seilbh Mheiriceá. Ní dhéanfaidh sé sin - ní tharlóidh sé sin choíche.”*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. An album pin is a lapel pin with artwork inspired by a specific album or song from an album. It could be the actual album artwork or it could be inspired by a specific track on the album. The best album pins stand out on their own. They appeal to more than just your fans. It is simple, bold, and visually engaging. However, what truly makes it an “album pin” is that the purchaser also gets a digital album with their pin.
