Gov. Newsom recently ordered homeless encampments on property under the state's jurisdiction to be cleared due to the Grants Pass Supreme Court decision that ruled that it is not cruel and unusual punishment to forbid people from camping on public property. This podcast is an audio version of Free Cities Center director Steve Greenhut's interview with Erica Sandberg, a freelance journalist and frequent commentator on San Francisco's homeless crisis.

Journalist, author, speaker & strategist Erica Sandberg is best known for giving sound and practical financial guidance to readers & viewers. But more than a personal finance expert, she's a resident of San Francisco. She has seen for herself the escalating issues with the city's homeless population, especially in its Tenderloin neighborhood, which has rapidly devolved into a modern skid row. The culprit? Easy accessibility to drugs. So she went undercover to three facilities where local addicts can get supplies for their habits, ostensibly for the benefit of public health. What she found there shocked her, and it will probably shock you as well. Hear in her own words why she believes San Francisco's lax drug policies are making matters much worse, and much, much more deadly. ***** TOP STORIES: FBI Releases Affidavit on Trump's Mar-a-Lago Home Raid. The City Journal and Erica Sandberg in particular has written a detailed account of the Harm Reduction drug culture in San Francisco. Her chilling account of how they facilitate drug use and abuse among the homeless on our streets is shocking. Erica Sandberg joins City Journal associate editor Seth Barron to discuss the deteriorating state of public order in San Francisco. The Bay Area's most densely populated and desirable neighborhoods are being destroyed by lawlessness and squalor. San Francisco now leads the nation in property crime, according to the FBI. "Other low-level offenses," Sandberg reports for City Journal, "including drug dealing, street harassment, encampments, indecent exposure, public intoxication, simple assault, and disorderly conduct are also rampant." With the situation growing more dire, residents are organizing to demand that the city take action against repeat offenders and strengthen quality-of-life laws. It remains to be seen whether the city will change its approach to public safety. "Meantime," Sandberg writes, "the poor bear the brunt of low-level and property crimes."
