#ThrowbackThursday This week on Finding PROOF, we're revisiting our earlier conversation with NVCA and Bobby Franklin. While this conversation originally aired just over a year ago, with the election approaching, it's a timely reminder of the vital role lobbyists play—and how fortunate the venture capital ecosystem is to have such a strong, passionate advocate for the innovation economy in Washington. NVCA has played an invaluable role in VC wins, such as securing block grant funding for entrepreneurial ecosystems through the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), supporting tech-driven initiatives in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and advancing the CHIPS and Science Act, which originated as the Endless Frontier Act—a generational investment in technology and entrepreneurship across the country.

It is time to move into the full expression and the best possible version of you. But you have to be able to find that person and become that person as those shoes are just waiting for you to step in. However, when your head is in a lot of negative self-talk, it doesn't matter if anyone and everyone tells you how amazing you are – unless you consciously change that self-talk and make it a habit. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: What is an imposter syndrome How to overcome imposter syndrome Making it a habit to find evidence Changing your self-talk Episode Highlights: What Is The Imposter Syndrome The imposter syndrome is telling us we're not worthy. We're not good enough. We're a fraud and we're going to get found out. It's super fictitious, but it seems incredibly real in the moment. Now, it's time to outsmart this negative self-talk. Finding Proof and Evidence Here's your challenge: Look around and see where there's proof, or evidence that we actually do know what we're doing. Find the proof and evidence that you are good at this or that, and here's the reality of it. People may come to you time and time and time again because they may want to be mentored by you. Or maybe someone just sent you an email telling you how great of a mentor you are. Make it a habit to find that evidence. And make sure to catch yourself in that negative web. No one else can do it for us – that negative story that goes on and on. You have to change the story legitimately. Changing Your Self-Talk No matter how many Instagram posts you're seeing about how you are so worthy and how you're deserving of so much, and that you are enough. But it all starts within us. So it is time to internalize your successes. It is time to change the story you are telling yourselves. You need to change your self-talk and what your subconscious is picking up on. No one else can do it for you, but only you.

his is a nugget of wisdom I gained during my discussion with Anthony Trucks last week. (Check out the Finding Proof podcast episode where I interview him about the similarities between parenting and business ownership, and between business coaching and being coached as an NFL player.) If you are the sole or major revenue stream in your business, how much freedom and flexibility do you have? If you don’t have others around you sharing the responsibility, how much freedom and flexibility do you have? If your business can’t cope in your absence, how much freedom and flexibility do you have? If these questions make you wince, do you really have a thriving business? Or do you have a job? And it gets worse … If your business can’t pay you a decent income (in addition to keeping its nose clean), do you really have a business, or do you have a hobby? Think about the systems and team you need to support you in order to ensure that (a) your business can not only survive, but thrive in your absence and (b) it can pay you a decent income along the way. If you want your business to be a legacy for your family and a constant for your community, you really need to be thinking about these things too. So, which is it? Do you have a business? Or a job? Or just a hobby? I’ll leave that for you to ponder. Much love, Tess x p.s. If you need to challenge your psychological barriers to business success, don’t forget both my 12 Month (Like A Boss 2.0 - where you get access to me and all my stuff!) I made an unexpected new friendship today. I love it when life throws joy my way, don’t you? We were supposed to be recording a podcast interview for my podcast, Finding Proof, but instead we just talked and talked and talked. We talked about our shared journeys of being mothers and business owners. We talked about what it’s like when people let you down in business. We talked about some of the assumptions people make about business owners, and the reality behind that … for example, does it surprise you to know that I’m actually an introvert? And we talked about what we could learn from each other. My new friend is Amberly Lago. She’s from Texas, but lives in LA. She’s a Queen of Instagram, but a bit of a Facebook rookie. She’s got an incredible backstory (which we didn’t really cover today, we’ll save that for the podcast). And she’s just so delightful. She’s a mindset coach and a public speaker. And she’s really smart. Amberly talked about how people often assume that as business owners, our world’s expand. People assume that all doors open to us. That we’ve got it all and more. BUT the reality is, as Amberly so eloquently put it, our worlds actually shrink. We have less time for friends, because we greedily hoard any spare time for our families. We have fewer people around us who “get” what we do or why we do it. We have fewer people to turn to who can normalise our journey. As so the dark side of the business owner journey is that over time you begin to feel increasingly isolated. This is a massive psychological issue for business owners. Especially in difficult times when we feel that we are truly alone and in the dark. We internalise difficult times as being personal failures, instead of recognising them for what they are - the normal ups and downs of business. We feel like failures instead of feeling like experienced ship’s captains of a boat navigating choppy waters - just like every other ship’s captain experiences from time to time. So today was yet another magical moment of connection between two likeminded business owners, social media boss ladies, and public speakers. We “got” each other so much we didn’t get around to recording the podcast episode! The great thing about that is we get to do it all over again, but this time for your benefit! I have a feeling Amberly and I will be having many more conversations as time goes by. We’ll both be bringing you along for the ride, so you’d better follow us both - on Instagram and Facebook and wherever else you can find us! This is going to be fun! Much love, Tess x p.s. If you need to challenge your psychological barriers to business success, don’t forget both my 30 Day (Firestarters - closing this Sunday!) and 12 Month (Like A Boss 2.0 - where you get access to me and all my stuff!) In this interview for the Finding Proof podcast, I had a rip-roaring chat with Canadian digital media and marketing whizz and president of Phanta Media, Mark Drager. We talk about all things social media, marketing, confidence, and doing what we do to serve the greater purpose of helping others. This was a great chat with someone who is becoming a rather good friend of mine. I hope you'll enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed chatting!
An inspiring conversation recently with recovery coach, Tracy O'Malley, for the Finding Proof podcast. Tracy is a woman with a lived experience of multiple generations of addition. Not only has she overcome the struggle of her own recovery, she now coaches others to overcome addiction, break the multi-generational patterns that keep them stuck, and cheerleads them on to achieve great things in their own lives. I loved this discussion about the work we both do, and the challenges of vulnerability, parenting, business, and much more! p.s. There may be the odd salty word or two.
An inspiring chat today with addictions coach, Tracy O'Malley, for the Finding Proof podcast prompted these thoughts on vulnerability. It is THE secret weapon. THE secret sauce. Listen to your wise, experienced, vulnerable self. It’s everything! p.s. There may be the odd salty word or two.
It was my great pleasure to speak this week with the very lovely Jeannette Fuentes successful Los Angeles entrepreneur and speaker. Our conversation covered her experiences as the child of immigrants and how that influenced her business career, her early setbacks before the power of #MeToo could give her a voice, and how as a successful realtor in Los Angeles she still manages to the busyness of business with her own self-development and the empowerment of other female realtors. This was a delightful conversation, as Jeannette and I found that we had so much in common. Meanwhile you can follow Jeannette on Facebook or on Instagram (@_JeannetteFuentes).
I've had a few conversations over the past week that have led me to wonder about bullying between professionals. I've also had the opportunity to compare how kids handle their peer relationships and what we can learn from them. Enjoy.
In this (my 5oth!!) episode of the Finding Proof podcast I meet with the fabulous Peace Mitchell, co-founder of AusMumpreneur and the Women's Business School. Peace and her sister Katy have done more for women in business than any other organisation I can think of, in particular mums in business. If you're a woman, if you're a mum, if you're in business, if you're an entrepreneur, if you're a lover of great stories ... this is a wonderful story and I can't wait to share it with you!
This week's Finding Proof podcast saw me interviewing my wonderful friend, Dr Amy Talbot, who was last week announced as the inaugural Psychologist of the Year at the Allied Health Awards. Amy talks about her journey to becoming a psychologist, the isolation that can come with being a young leader and business owner, and how she hopes her award will shine a light on the treatment of eating disorders.
This week on the Finding Proof podcast I'm interviewing my dear friend and all-round top Aussie bloke, musician and songwriter David Fuller. We go from laughter to darkness and back again. We share a glass of wine while our conversation covers his lifelong dedication to music, launching a music presence when you're not an 18 year old in a boy band, his years in the darkness of depression, and what saved him. One heck of a chat! Check out his tunes at www.davidfullermusic.com
In this episode of the Finding Proof podcast I have a relaxed chat with my son about what it's like living with dyspraxia. Never heard of dyspraxia? Harry Potter actor, Daniel Radcliffe, has it. One of the Doctor's newest companions on Doctor Who also has it. It's a coordination disorder affecting on average one kid in every class, and often goes undiagnosed. You'll learn a bit about dyspraxia in this episode, but you'll also learn how my family and I managed to find our own proof of how courageous and creative we could be in the face of our struggles. And the good news is, we're a happier family for it!
What are the emotions involved in leaving a job? How do you leave with your dignity intact and your reputation in mind? I'll share a couple of personal stories (not my best moments in some cases) to help you find your own evidence to courageously leap from one job to the next without being labelled an arsehole! Meanwhile, in case you missed it, the intense emotional rollercoaster of being an employer when staff leave was this week's topic on the Finding Proof live show on FB. Check it out. (p.s. My apologies for the sound quality, and my sincere thanks to Danielle Kessler of 2MarketMedia for doing her level best over the past couple of days to tidy up the worst of it so I could publish this week as planned. Superstar!)
In this episode of the Finding Proof podcast, I'll talk you through just what Finding Proof is all about and where it came from. I'll also give you a couple of little hints to start you on your way towards finding proof of your own incredible awesomeness!
Did you notice that the name of this podcast has changed? What's it all about, and how does it relate to you? Have a listen and I'll explain as we make the transition from Quiet Confidence to Finding Proof.
