I met Aleisha Weston at the Ausmumpreneur Conference where we were both finalists for Awards in our industries. At big events with wildly wealthy, successful incredible women every direction I turn ... it's easy to become scattered, chatty, working the room, handing out business cards and making as many contacts as possible. That doesn't work for me. At each event I attend I take a moment of gratitude & allow myself to feel humbled instead of intimidated by the high calibre people I am surrounded by, I trust my intuition on who and where I am drawn to cultivate genuine, authentic & reciprocated connections. And I take time with that person or group of people to ... LISTEN & CONNECT. And I meet the MOST INCREDIBLY humble, inspiring & authentic people!Aleisha is one of those people and now with so much delight, I get to connect her with YOU, to support Aleisha in sharing her message & medicine with the world through her voice. If you are a woman in business or a woman who needs permission to SHINE and it's your TIME, tune in to hear about Aleisha's journey & her wise words of wisdom & inspiration. I recently came back from Sydney where I spent the day with 450+ other amazing women in business at the Ausmumpreneur conference and awards. I love events like these, meeting other people who totally get me just fills my cup and I love hearing amazing stories from the speakers, and about the incredible businesses other attendees have. To top off the event, I was thrilled to be recognized as the national winner for Business 2 Business Services and Online Education. Winning the awards was such a wonderful achievement as it recognised all the hard work I put into making our training courses and community the absolute best they can be. Entering awards is great for your business for several reasons. I've made great friends through these events who I still connect with. Recognition Being a finalist, or winning an award is great recognition for your brand and you can leverage this to create PR opportunities. It also creates great trust for your website, so display those award badges proudly. Episode Highlights: Awards are a great way to take a look at your business. The journey of being a business owner AND a mum is a very special and unique experience. Adding the many challenges of being a mother to the constant day to day challenges of owning a business and you've got the perfect mix of overwhelm and frustration. And more often than not, it can be a very lonely journey. I know I certainly discovered this to be true when I started my first business during maternity leave with two babies. But thankfully, 12 years ago I became involved with the AusMumpreneur community which opened up a vast network of other mum business owners, all experiencing the exact same issues. Committed to providing a network of mum business owners, the Ausmumpreneur Conference and Awards were delivered to acknowledge the challenges we face and to allow for connection for sharing knowledge, collaborations, support and lifelong friendships. Today I get to interview my friend Peace Mitchell, one of the founders of AusMumpreneur and we talk about: The importance of a network and community for mums running a business The unique challenges that mums do face when running a business and often not being taken seriously enough The value of celebrating achievements within our community and why women tend to avoid putting their hands up for recognition What the benefits are for business owners in entering for awards and how to maximise the experience. How to make the most of attending a conference Why like minded conferences can transform your mindset from ‘at home mum business' to a multi-million dollar business owner Listen today as Peace and I discuss the importance of having a community to support your business journey. Our extra special guest today is Nikki McLennan with our interview titled, Photographer, entrepreneur, and all-around powerful Lioness. Before I introduce you to our wonderful guest, here's what you need to know….. Nikki McLennan is one of those people you can't quite believe exists. A multi-award-winning photographer and entrepreneur, Nikki defines what it means to take the bull by the horns. Nikki's work passionately combines a celebration of the power of women, with the lifetime preservation of precious family memories. Her work in this space is a clear reflection of herself. Nikki is the personification of her “Lioness” brand; as well as a dedicated and loving role model to her beautiful children. Nikki's journey into the photography space started at just 14 years old when she would constantly be taking photos of her salt-sprayed friends at the beach in Evans Head. Armed with an old-school film camera and the mentorship of her friend Stephen Blanch, Nikki quickly developed a love of the art of photography that grew to become her life's passion. I want to start the interview with a quote from Nikki - In an age where digital is king, Lion & Cub believes there is power and beauty in real art hung on the wall for everyone to see. Good afternoon, Nikki and welcome to the Every Day business show, so glad to have you here with us today. Let's take up your story from High school. What did you study after high school? What changes inspired the writing for Capture Magazine? In 2017 you were nominated for Ausmumpreneur, there's a great story around this can you tell the audience about that? You were blessed to be nominated again in 2019 which led to the Lion and Cub, can you tell us more about that progression? Family, Mum Bub Again in 2021 more awards what did this mean for you and the business? I love that you are best described as a fine art photographer, what does this mean to you and for your business? The link between art and photography is a beautiful one and you have captured this unique combination in your beautiful portraits. There have been lots of struggles for you and one of those is that of being a creative entrepreneur with ADHD. Nikki, can you please share with the audience how you manage these challenges and how they impact you and your business? A very special component of the way you do business is the empowerment of women. What does this mean to you in your business? She started as a primary school teacher but later realized that online business was going to be the answer to find a way that she could work at home and still be at home with her children, while still be able to pursue her professional career ambitions and bring to life all of her ideas and dreams and following her calling. Her love for the community began as an idea to bring women together, to support, to uplift and to provide them with the connections they need to succeed. Peace is a co-founder of the Women's Business School and Ausmumpreneur, author and host of Best And Brightest podcast. She is an Australian ambassador for women in tech with over 50,000 women in her community and a Forbes.com business expert. Her new book, The Women Changing The World will be out in December 2021. BIG IDEA 1 “Women are the world's greatest untapped resource; if we could encourage and support women to be everything that they want to be and know that they can be, it could be incredible.” (7:15) Peace believes that women see the world through a completely different lens by the natural instinct of women nurturing and caring for others, this means that women approach things in a different way than typically a man would. She thinks that it flows through to business; the way that women look after their customers, the way that they look after this staff and the way that they solve problems. She said that women hold the key to an unlocking and solving the problems that the world's facing everything from leadership. Peace believes that investing in women is the number one way to change the world and if we could invest in women and give them the support to really get their ideas off the ground, we would see big changes happening in the world. And from an investor perspective, she thinks that women are more likely to be successful and bring in more money. BIG IDEA 2 “Community is at the heart of everything we do and our vision has always been to create a circular community” (7:15) Peace talked about the communities being at the heart of everything. She believes that creating a circular community where the women who were starting out can get support and encouragement from the women who have more experience has always been at the core of why they started building a community. She said that it's all about working together and collaborating and connection. And being that women are just naturally good at communication and supporting each other, the generosity that we see within their community is incredible. It's about women going out of their way to help each other and really caring about each other. She strongly believes in the philosophy; “We rise by lifting others”, and that it's a huge key to building community. BIG IDEA 3 “Connections is everything. Success isn't just about how much money you make or whether you're famous, or whether you drive a great car. It's about the relationships you build as well.” (13:14) Peace pointed out on the connections that have opened the door
Delight. This was such a delightful conversation with Leonie. As an artist, writer and world changer, her energy is energizing and magnetic.Have you ever been afraid of trying something new? Thinking you won't stick with it or just talking yourself out of it because it sounds too hard or too far out there? Leonie is exploring 21 day challenges and I absolutely love this idea! I mean you can try anything for 21 days right? Meditation, no social media, yoga, reading, walking, etc. This led us into Leonie's relationship with social media, and how she is now completely off social media, and loving it! It's curious to think about isn't it? Not being so attached to socials. What would it feel like to not be constantly checking Instagram? What would you do with your time? What would you have the space for? Leonie has more time and space for her creative endeavors and is communicating more with her email list where she is having more real conversations now that social media is pulling away her attention and energy. When you think about wealth, what comes to mind? Do you ever think about your well being as an integral piece of building and sustaining wealth? Leonie chats with us about building wealth and how that has allowed her to serve herself, her family and her world in more ethical and aligned ways. It makes me think about what our world will be like as each of us build and sustain our own wealth. Think of the prosperous new world we will create on an individual and collective level as we each enter into deeper service and alignment as we build our wealth.Leonie DawsonLeonie Dawson is an internationally best-selling author of her yearly goal planner workbooks, which have helped over 400,000 people worldwide set & achieve their life & business goals.Leonie has generated over $10 million in revenue while only working 10 hours a week. Leonie has been recognized for her business acumen by winning Ausmumpreneur’s People’s Choice Business Coach, Global Brand & Businesses Making A Difference Awards. She is also a philanthropist, blogger, and podcast host, describes herself as a ‘highly-sensitive oddball,’ and is proudly neuro-diverse. Leonie has spent the last 10 years living in some of the most beautiful places around Australia. She currently lives with her two daughters and husband on the Sunshine Coast. Find her at www.leoniedawson.com In our interview, Leonie reflects on how:Growing up on a cattle farm created her rich relationship with nature and animals. "There's something quite ecstatic about the natural world."People who are true to themselves and their inner wisdom are much less likely to harm Earth. Leonie points out that "Being yourself is about the most fun you can have!" and describes how her authenticity promotes creativity. "My brain is a festival ground, a happy place; it just thinks about what I want to create next."Zebras don’t wish their stripes were differently shaped in order to feel more worthy and lovable. Animals model self-acceptance and authentic being. It doesn’t make sense for other animals to be happy within themselves but not humans. We can choose to be present, joyful in self-loving acceptance, and true to ourselves. Her philanthropy supports the Australian Wildlife Conservancy due to their focus on purchase and protection of wild lands, and Australia's Wilderness Society, which takes legal action to protect wild land. Her home-based life of quarantine “like our ancestors experienced,” with quiet, children playing at home, gardening, the magic of composting, and thoughtful management of local food brought her gladness, bliss, and presence. “It was a sweet and a kind time, living more in partnership with the seasons and your local community and the Earth around you.”Sustainability is “not about restricting ourselves to less, but it’s about embracing more depth, more value, more connection to the land around us.”Ultimately, “your relationship with yourself is the one that will sustain you.” When we feel lacking we turn outward and do things like buying. But having a relationship with yourself and your creativity is the real blessing.

How could prioritizing your workload provide you with more freedom in your business? It is common for entrepreneurs to set annual income goals; perhaps having a successful business to you might mean making $100,000 per year, or making $250,000 annually and still being able to take holidays off.Leonie Dawson started with this approach also: as the sole breadwinner for her family, she wanted to be able to support her family financially and make at least $30,000/year. But when she had a baby, she was forced to cut way back on her time spent working, and maximize her productivity in the short working hours she had. Do you want to become a bestselling author, but don't know where to begin? Many thought leaders lack the confidence to pursue book writing because they are afraid their book might flop. In today's episode, Natasa Denman, an author and entrepreneur, shares her book writing blueprint for aspiring authors. She also gives ideas on how pre-sale can help return an author's investment in an instant. About Our Guest: Natasa Denman is a world-class author who has published more than ten books, including “The Ultimate 48 Hour Author.” She is a sought after CSP-accredited professional speaker, mentor, and coach. Natasa has been recognised as the Telstra Businesswoman of the Year twice and an AusMumpreneur of the Year in Product Innovation finalist. If you want to get more ideas on how Natasa's blueprint works, check out the highlights below and don't miss this loaded episode! How to Start Writing Your First BookHow It Developed (1:12) Natasa always wanted to get things done fast. She and a co-author decided to finish writing a book in one weekend. She realised they already have the bulk of the content from their interviews. They spent three hours writing the book. From there, Natasa realised if she could write half a book on a weekend, she could get other people to do it as well. Multi-Speaker Books (3:55) You only say yes to these projects if you're offered to be part of one for free. Being a part of this multi-speaker book should lift your profile. She is not a big fan of multi-speaker books. She doesn't think you will shine because you are only among 12 to 15 other people in the book. Business on Steroids (5:16) Natasa has already written 11 books on different topics. Use reverse-engineering in organising information for writing a book. Take note though that this information organisation model will not work for fiction writing; the framework is applicable for personal stories. First Book Writing Experience (8:58) Natasa's confidence and self-worth grew when her first book came out. When she stood up and introduced herself, people became serious in learning she's doing. Benefits of Book Writing (11:56) "The book is somewhere near the top of your sales funnel." The book is an opportunity for people to get to know you without investing too much. You don't need to be a speaker to promote your book because the internet is an excellent platform for selling books. Some authors pre-launch their books. They receive payment in their Paypal account at a slightly lower price. Pre-launching creates leverage for the sales of the book. Common Problems of Book Writing (16:50) Natasa compiled her audience's responses regarding the reasons they are attending her workshop. She wrote the tips and pieces of advice in her book, which is divided into three parts. How to Get Authors Do Pre-Sale (18:58) It's all about making sure they finish the whole pre-sale process. It is essential to work on the foundation first, get your hands dirty, and build the funnel towards the success of your book. Highest Achievements of Authors (23:37) Natasa shared about an author who wrote a book on chalk paint because she wanted to sell more of the chalk paint she made. A psychologist got her return investment in 39 days, and Natasa praised her for improving her profile. This episode of Adding Up is listed as bonus content as it is a little different and takes a detour from focusing on Numbers. Who do you meet in your life that impacts you so profoundly with their vision that you find yourself inspired to connect and take action? It is however important when it comes to adding up the life experience that gets you to where you are. Peace Mitchell, little did I know, was one of those key people that has come into my life. Peace Mitchell Co-founded Ausmumpreneur and The Women's Business School. I met Peace in 2016 at the 2016 AusMumpreneur National Conference in Melbourne. To say this was a pivotal moment in my life is an understatement. This is an interview done in January 2018 for a different podcast, 'See Digital Clearly' with Serena Dot Ryan. It is a little different, but however instrumental in where I am today. I also find it a fascinating listen. In this episode Peace Mitchell shares: - What she wanted to be when she grew up. - What her 10 year vision is. - How she overcome her obstacles to be where she is today. If you're a woman, if you're a mum, if you're in business, if you're an entrepreneur, if you're a lover of great stories ... this is a wonderful story and I can't wait to share it with you!

“A lot of women label themselves as procrastinators, but is it really procrastination?” In this week’s episode, Sonya and Laura chat about a topic that has been coming up frequently in the Women in the Business Arena Facebook Group. The conversation centers around what procrastination really is and why many women perceive themselves as procrastinators when really there is something else going on that they need to pay attention to. Sonya discusses how the term “procrastination” is a blanket label that we can tend to give when we don’t accomplish what we think we “should”. “Sometimes, our intuition is telling us to postpone something because it’s not quite right yet. Sometimes, we’re in a cyclical stage where we need to slow down, stop, rethink things, and pivot, or we just need self-care. All of those things can be lumped in with procrastination.” Whether you struggle with perfectionism or just the cyclical nature of life and business, you’ve probably labelled your stand still as procrastination instead of looking deeper to see what it is telling you. We’re so used to hearing it thrown about in the business world as something that we all do. If we’re not hustling, or working on our businesses every moment of the day, we can label ourselves (or be labelled by others) as procrastinators. The problem is, we don’t ever stop to evaluate what our wise self is trying to say. What if we are moving in the wrong direction, and our procrastination is a sign to stop and go a different way? What if the right move is to slow down instead of speed up, but we railroad over it in an effort to stop our procrastination? “Sometimes, procrastination is our need to percolate, and we need permission to do it” Sonya and Laura redefine the nature of procrastination. Sometimes we actually need the space to process what is happening or contemplate big decisions that might need to be made. Taking some extra time for yourself to focus on what really matters, does not make you a procrastinator. Honor your procrastination. Celebrate your procrastination. Give yourself permission to procrastinate. Some Topics we talk about in this episode: Introduction - 0:58 Is It Really Procrastination? - 4:05 Accepting the Cyclical Nature Within Yourself - 6:57 Being OK With Not Being “Available” - 9:15 Feeling the Guilt of Procrastination - 12:10 Diagnosing What’s Actually Happening - 18:50 Processing vs. Procrastination - 24:05 Going Against the Current - 31:25 Wrap-up and Takeaways - 36:30 A message from Sonya: I have been honoured to be nominated for the Ausmumpreneur awards in the Making a Difference category. If you know me, you know that I am not into awards, but what I am into is making a difference for women across the globe. What winning this award gives me... is a voice. We need more women in power and we need to spread the message that there is a way to operate more effectively as women in business. It is about self-care and honouring our emotions. It is about learning balance. It is about making profit and impact. We don't have to compromise our values any more to succeed in business. Our success in business contributes to the whole world. In this episode of the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast, Julia talks with Leanne Mulcahy. Leanne found herself unexpectedly pregnant at 18 and when her relationship didn’t work out, she became a single mum when her daughter was 6 months old. She has since created an amazing life for herself. She is an award-winning designer and Founder of Stand Out Women, which is a global community for women who are ready to live life on their own terms. She’s also a speaker and an author. Her first book Notes to Self was released in 2015 and was a hit with women who connected with her story of overcoming severe shyness and lack of self-worth to have a business where she helps women have the life they really want. An updated version of this book - Imperfectly Perfect - has since been released. Leanne also works with women to design a clear vision and plan that helps them overcome mindset blocks that keep them stuck, boost their confidence so they can stop worrying and doubting themselves and feel good about taking deliberate and inspired action. Her online radio show, Stand Out Radio, is where women from around the world share inspirational stories, wisdom and answer the burning question "what does it mean to live life on your own terms". In this episode of the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast, Leanne tells us about her own journey of becoming a single mum, and what it was like being such a young single mum and how she coped. She also discusses the benefits she encountered in being a single mum, and what it has taught her daughter. She also shares what life looks like for her today, her advice for single mums, and what she’s learnt through her experience of being a single mum. In this solo episode of the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast, Julia talks about her last relationship and her experience of being ghosted. If you haven't heard of "ghosting", it's the practice of ending a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication. According to research a whooping 50 percent of men and women have experienced it and an almost equal number have done the ghosting.
