As free agency negotiations officially begin around the NBA, the Rockets are continuing a busy offseason. With Kevin Durant already in the fold, Houston has recently agreed to new contracts with Jabari Smith Jr. and Fred VanVleet, and there are rumors that Lakers forward Dorian Finney-Smith could be an attainable target during the opening days of 2025 free agency.Sponsored by Karbach Brewing, Monday's episode explores all the various implications. Discussion topics include include how Smith and VanVleet's relatively inexpensive deals could the Rockets help fill out future rosters, as well as why Finney-Smith is a worthwhile target to potentially backfill the role of Dillon Brooks (traded to Phoenix in the Durant deal).

In all likelihood, Dorian Finney-Smith is going to be back with the Lakers after either opting into his player option or after opting out and re-signing a longer deal for less per year. But, if DFS does leave, Anthony explains how it could open up options for the Lakers while also freeing up minutes at the four. Anthony was thinking about the whole "will or won't LeBron take the pay cut" subject and wondered whether people are going about that all wrong. He then explains how Dorian Finney-Smith opting out and walking wouldn't necessarily be the worst thing. He points out how Austin Ainge's new gig is just the latest example of nepotism in the NBA and then discusses the Jazz apparently coming to their senses about tanking. In this episode of the Kevin O'Connor Show, KOC is joined by Dan Titus to break down some of the NBA's biggest trade moves and coaching shakeups before deep diving on the Detroit Pistons with Bryce Simon. KOC and Dan start with the recent D'Angelo Russell trade, with the Los Angeles Lakers acquiring Dorian Finney-Smith. KOC and Dan discuss what else the Lakers need before the conversation turns to the Memphis Grizzlies, who missed out on DFS in this deal. KOC and Titus evaluate what this means for Memphis, which has been struggling to find its footing this season. Meanwhile, over in Brooklyn, the Nets' latest moves signal a full rebuild. KOC also takes a moment to reflect on the Orlando Magic's standout Tristan Da Silva turning heads as the team's depth continues to shine.Later in the episode, the guys discuss a range of topics, from Mike Brown's firing in Sacramento to the state of the NBA's culture around fighting and villains in the game. KOC and DT weigh in on the Sacramento Kings' disappointing start and the reality that the team needs a full reset. They debate the best landing spots for D'Aaron Fox, with the San Antonio Spurs emerging as a dream destination.Later, KOC and Bryce Simon dive into the Detroit Pistons' early season performance, with a focus on Cade Cunningham's development. While Cunningham has made significant strides in his shooting, KOC questions whether his struggles with finishing at the rim and turnovers could hinder his potential as a true #1 option. They also discuss the inconsistency of Ivey and Duren, the Pistons' potential draft plans and whether adding a player like Zach LaVine could be the key to unlocking the team's next level.(1:10) - D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets, Dorian Finney-Smith to the Lakers(11:05) - Should Grizzlies fans be concerned about missing out on Finney-Smith?(17:15) - Magic depth pieces shine in comeback win(20:10) - Should the NBA allow fights?(23:35) - Mike Brown fired: will the Kings finally reset?(43:05) - Pistons deep dive with Bryce Simon

We are BACK from the holiday break with the news that Robert Horry is on the HALL OF FAME BALLOT! And while he isn't sure he will get in with a crowded nomination class, the fact that he's officially in the conversation is huge. He tells us how he found out, what the reactions have been from friends and fans and why he believes he deserves to be there. Rob also gets into the D'Angelo Russell trade from LA to the Nets (again) and admits that he likes the move for D-Lo's future. Harper thinks Finney-Smith is a great fit for the Lakers if he sticks to his role as a perimeter shooter and defender. And the firing of Mike Brown threw everyone for a loop - and Rob speculates that one of the Kings star players must have sounded off to management and that's what made it happen so abruptly. Mike Malone held nothing back by saying the move shows that Sacramento management has "no class" and how that message resonates to the owners and GMs around the league. Everyone talks about the fun they had on Christmas break, until Rob decided to shoot Jenners a text to remind him that Draymond Green already has 7 techs, as Jenners bet of "under 10" for the season really starts to implode. That leads us into the incident caught on tape where Draymond was cursing out Buddy Hield on the floor and later saying it was his was of motivating him. Rob sounds off, saying he was never motivated by people yelling at him and had a huge disagreement with a teammate in Houston over that. Which spins us into a conversation about how guys choose to motivate their teammates and what really works. Anthony Edwards got popped $100K for cursing on live TV, and Rob says the big fine was the NBA trying to send a message to players to watch their language on live TV. And we celebrate the return of NBA fights, after Amen Thompson threw down Tyler Herro - and the Marshall-Nurkic suspensions came down in the Dallas-Phoenix fight. We also jump into the College Playoff picks for the quarter finals games this week, which has us all going in different directions. And we close with a Big Shot of the Week to the National Police of Peru for arresting drug dealers on Christmas dressed as the Grinch - and a hilarious round of "It Happened This Year" where we try to remember specifics about stuff that went down in 2024.
