The Lakers looked to close out what could have been a very good week as the freefalling Brooklyn Nets made their way to the Crypt on Friday night. But the Lakers, given every opportunity to take control of the game in the first half decided to make little effort to defend the 19 threes made by Brooklyn as they swept on by the Lakers and cruised to a 130-112 victory over LA. Tune in as the guys from the Lakers Fast Break share their disgust and anger over how the Lakers let it fall apart, why Darvin Ham's coaching is again of great concern to Lakers fans, and why this team's prospects for the season seem to be fading into dust. The guys are mad they had to sit through a dumpster fire yet again and they'll let you know about it on the Lakers Fast Break podcast! Jason Timpf breaks down the Los Angeles Lakers preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets last night where LeBron James saw his first action of the 2023-24 season and he didn't miss a beat. Ben Simmons also returned to the floor for the Brooklyn Nets last night and looked like his old self from a few years ago. Looking athletic and healthy again, this could be a bounce-back year for Simmons. Plus, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren made their preseason debuts, and they did not disappoint. Wemby finished with a dominating 20 points, and Chet answered with 21 points of his own to go along with 9 rebounds in only 16 minutes. #VolumeSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Monday night brought us the second Lakers exhibition game, this time on the Las Vegas strip as they played host against the Brooklyn Nets. Tune in as the guys from the Lakers Fast Break recap the game, how LeBron and Austin Reaves looked in their first exhibition action, and if the rest of the rotation as a whole looked better on Monday. After the robbery in Boston, the Lakers head to New York for a back-to-back starting with the Brooklyn Nets. And without Anthony Davis and LeBron James in the lineup, the Lakers overcame a terrible first half with one of their best 3rd quarters of the season to keep things close. But the rally ended in the fourth quarter as the Lakers self-destructed and gave the Nets a 121-104 victory. Tune in as Joe Soro from lakersball.com/SynBlades.com, "MagicMan" Sean Grice, and Gerald Glassford from the Lakers Fast Break break down how the Lakers fared without their main two, how things look tomorrow at MSG vs. the Knicks, and why we're frustrated over the continual load management. I'm in a championship mood as the sun is starting to set on the month of October, but your little sports podcast host continues to rise as to what the sports world has to offer. On deck: (3:05) The World Series stage is set as the Phillies will invade Houston on Friday and Saturday night to play Games 1 & 2. I'll have all of the juicy storylines, the road for the AL & NL Champions to this point and predict who'll win the Fall Classic? There's also been some news regarding impending free agent, Aaron Judge, as rumors of the Dodgers being a participant in the sweepstakes of the Yankee slugger. Was this too soon? Speaking of the Yankees, it's been reported that manager, Aaron Boone will return for his sixth season in pinstripes. Is Brian Cashman not to far behind in joining him as his contract is up? And why did the Yankees use the 2004 Red Sox for motivation as they were down 0-3 vs. the Astros in the ALCS? (30:44) NFL Week 8 is another snoozefest of a schedule, although the Thursday night matchup (Ravens at Buccaneers) is intriguing. If things broke right, you can have all four teams in the NFC South tied for first place with 3-5 records! I'll touch on some of the big stories that took place this week (Colts Matt Ryan benched for Sam Ehlinger, Matt Jones starting for the Patriots and the Jets trading for RB James Robinson) as we get through a bore of a slate and into November. (39:30) College football's schedule is just about the same, although you do have #2 Ohio State visiting 13th ranked Penn St. Do the Nittany Lions have a shot to upset the Buckeyes and throw a wrinkle into the playoff discussion? (42:15) Nine days into the NBA season has (who else?) the Lakers and Nets being the talk of the league. Is there concern over the Lakers 0-4 start? What about the Nets beginning their season at 1-3? Kyrie Irving is telling Ben Simmons to shoot! Do we have to keep our eye on that development? I'll take a look at the landscape throughout the Association as to what's the latest and greatest. (52:13) Golden Knights Phil Kessel is your new NHL ironman as he eclipsed the record just recently held by longtime defenseman, Keith Yandle. Is this a record that should be cherished? I'll also get into what else is happening on the ice as the season is barely three weeks old. After a bit of a break due we are back to finish up the coverage of the remaining 5 teams in our Look Around the NBA Series. Who's a contender and who's a pretender? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
A day barely passes without some news leaking about the Los Angeles Lakers, the Brooklyn Nets, and some trade that will affect Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Anthony Davis... even folks like Joe Harris, Seth Curry, and Talen Horton-Tucker, or teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, Indiana Pacers or Charlotte Hornets. So much of the NBA landscape is essentially stuck in neutral as the Nets sort out their conflict with the disgruntled Durant, which could create a butterfly effect of massive proportions. So what's happening these days in Brooklyn? To break it all down, Andy Kamenetzky (with Brian Kamenetzky out on vacation) spoke with Adam Armbrecht from Locked On Nets. The topics included the trade offers thus far declined for Durant, what makes him difficult to move, why he even wants out in the first place, and where things stand between the Nets and Irving, the Lakers' high profile target. Would the Nets move him without first having a resolution one way or the other with KD? Could Kyrie even co-exist with the franchise next season? Does he actually *prefer* to be back? Hosts: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT ONE: Why haven't the Nets found an offer they like for Durant? SEGMENT TWO: What's the deal between Durant and Brooklyn? How did it get this bad? SEGMENT THREE: Is Kyrie staying in Brooklyn a viable option? Andy and Brian Kamenetzky bring you a daily look into the Los Angeles Lakers and the NBA. The Kamenetzkys have covered the Lakers since 2005 for a variety of outlets including the LA Times, ESPN and The Athletic, with a unique style combining traditional journalism, informal commentary and offbeat humor. Does he actually *prefer* to be back?Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT ONE: Why haven't the Nets found an offer they like for Durant?SEGMENT TWO: What's the deal between Durant and Brooklyn? How did it get this bad?SEGMENT THREE: Is Kyrie staying in Brooklyn a viable option?Andy and Brian Kamenetzky bring you a daily look into the Los Angeles Lakers and the NBA. The Kamenetzkys have covered the Lakers since 2005 for a variety of outlets including the LA Times, ESPN and The Athletic, with a unique style combining traditional journalism, informal commentary and offbeat humor. Cousin Sal and the Degenerate Trifecta are back after hitting a big night of winners. First, the guys look at FanDuel's early Super Bowl MVP odds as Brother Brian sees potential in a long shot for the LA Rams. Then it's a preview of tonight's NBA games as Lebron James and the Lakers head to Brooklyn to take on James Harden and the Nets. Plus, Harry's old couch reminds Sal of his brother's odd bed growing up and teases telling the towel story at some point. Then it's back to the NBA for a preview of Dallas Mavericks @ Golden State Warriors and the big game in college basketball Arizona @ UCLA. The guys react to the breaking news Sean Payton is stepping down as the New Orleans Saints head coach and taking a break. Finally, it's a ride on the Make-Believe Riverboat Casino as the captain asks, which would be the funniest team for Tom Brady to win a championship next season? Speaking of rings, the guys close things out with a huge update on Harry's personal life that could happen in the next 7-10 days!
The Lakers kicked off their preseason Sunday, losing to the Brooklyn Nets )or people wearing Brooklyn Nets uniforms, at least), 123-97. Save a break-a-sweat first quarter from Anthony Davis, both teams ran without their stars, so it's hard to draw too much meaning from the result, but certain things did stick out:It was nice to see Davis back on the floor, even playing a little in a game where if he took the afternoon off nobody would have blinked. There's a lot riding on this season for Davis, and just choosing to get out on the floor and begin the process of getting back to the elite levels not reached last season is encouraging.Malik Monk (6-12, 15 points) showed some of the skills that attracted the Lakers to him, and left teammates surprised he was available at the minimum. If he provides the type of offense he did Sunday along with passable D, at the least he'll answer the question of where he fits into a crowded rotation. The answer would be decidedly "somewhere."Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn shared a backcourt. Were the different responsibilities each seemed to carry an indicator of how - and with whom- the coaching staff might deploy both?Dwight Howard is back, and to say the least, brought some Dwight Howard vibes.HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: The Lakers lose, Anthony Davis plays... did he make an impression? And what about Malik Monk? He certainly got Lakers Twitter going.SEGMENT 2: More on Monk. How could something that builds on his career performance last season impact the upside for the team? And what did we see from THT and Nunn that might be a clue for where the coaching staff is leaning in terms of responsibilities, roles and floor combinations?SEGMENT 3: Dwight Howard is back, and he's bringing that Dwight Howard vibe once again. Is that a good thing?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!SweatBlockGet it today for 20% off at SweatBlock.com with promo code LockedOn, or at Amazon and CVS.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. At long last (or more specifically, 48 hours, the time it took to clear waivers), DeAndre Jordan officially signed his contract with the Lakers on Thursday, and did an introductory press conference. The most interesting aspects to the Kamenetzky Brothers weren't as much about the details he offered (although he did seem excited to compete and amiable towards whatever role is needed of him), but rather how he was asked questions that framed Lakers-Nets as a rivalry. It is... in the sense that these are the consensus picks to make the Finals, and the storylines are incredibly juicy fun. But it's also not, in the sense that there's no recent history to speak of whatsoever between these squads. In fact, they've barely even faced each. other in their current incarnations. From there, a listener question from John Smith (@boom_shaka), who asked which young Laker has the best chance of breaking out: Talen Horton-Tucker or Malik Monk? For the sake of variety, Kendrick Nunn was also included in the discussion, but in reality, on several fronts, the answer not only feels like THT, but really needs to be.And finally, with the Hall of Fame ceremony this weekend, the Kamenetzkys enjoy some "What if?" over inductee Chris Webber's recent comments that before getting traded to Sacramento in 1998, he'd been holding out hope of a move to the Lakers in exchange for Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel, and Elden Campbell. Um... Shaq, Kobe AND C-Webb. Holy crap, what a fun team that would have been!!!Hosts: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Reactions to DeAndre Jordan's press conference.SEGMENT 2: How impactful can THT be next season?SEGMENT 3: C-Webb the Laker???Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!SweatBlockGet it today for 20% off at SweatBlock.com with promo code LockedOn, or at Amazon and CVS.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Nick Angstadt (@NickVanExit) and Isaac Harris (@IsaacLHarris) discuss the NBA teams with the most at stake over the last few weeks of the season and in the Playoffs. The last eight games for the Dallas Mavericks could be crucial but depending on how the rest of the league shakes out it may not matter. Which teams are 'Finals or Bust' in the league? Do the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz have big consequences if they don't advance?
