7on7 teams hit the turf in Poth for State qualifier

The 7on7 State qualifying tournament in Poth was held May 31. Poth and Santa Rosa both advanced to the State championship in College Station in June. The Poth Pirates went 4-0 to qualify for State and were the only team to go 4-0 at the tournament. Santa Rosa also qualified with a 3-1 record. Tournament scores: Pool 1 Poth def. Congratulations to the 2023 Poth Pirate 7on7 team! The Pirates competed June 2 at Jack Lane Field to earn a spot for the 2023 State 7on7 tournament. The Pirates went 4-0, defeating George West 21-0, Karnes City 35-6, Dilley 26- 7, and Three Rivers 41-18. This was the first time since the year 2000 that the girls track team placed in the top three spots in the Regional meet. The Poth Pirates won the 7on7 State Qualifying Tournament they hosted June 3 in Poth. The Pirates beat George West, Santa Rosa, and Comfort in pool play before defeating Falls City in the finals. The Stockdale High School Brahma football team defeated the George West Longhorns 40-7 Nov. 5 in George West. Game highlights include sophomore quarterback Camden Derricoatte's 65-yard touchdown run and another 58-yard touchdown run. Derricoatte also had a 64-yard touchdown pass to junior Parker Martinez. Quarterback senior Cutter Clancy also had impressive plays with a 44-yard run and a 15-yard touchdown pass to senior Jermy Irwin. The Brahmas finish the season third in district with a 4-2 record and will take on Hebbronville Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m.Article Link

In this episode, I speak to George West from Learn Diabetes who has been living with type 1 diabetes for 3.5 years. George was diagnosed with type 1 whilst he was in medical school. We discuss the challenges that his diagnosis bought in particular how George processed the mental aspect of it. In his first appointment with his endocrinologist, which was the day after he was diagnosed he asked to put on a flash glucose monitor! George talks about the first six months after his diagnosis and how he navigated various challenges including medical school, friends and exercise. Exercise was and still is a big part of George's life and we talk about how a poignant moment with a psychologist help George to overcome the barrier of exercising with type 1 diabetes. George and his friend have set up an Instagram page called Learn Diabetes which we discuss towards the end of our chat. In this episode when talking about glucose levels we use mmols.
