I was given advice from a colleague a few years ago as I left an organization as an employee to venture out on my own - yet again - as a coach, consultant, facilitator. He told me, "Whatever you do, don't talk about culture." I took his advice seriously at the time. But the more I've been back at my own business full time, the more crucial I feel this concept of company culture really is. Culture is the container that holds all of the organization's activities. It's not what you do, it's how you do it that reflects the culture for the people doing the work. Today I mention several books: "The Power of Company Culture" by Chris Dyer, "Holacracy" by Brian Robertson, "Human-Centered Communication" by Ethan Beute and Stephen Pacinelli, and "Humanocracy," by Gary Hamel and Michele Zanini.

It took some time, but by the time they recorded Jailbreak, Thin Lizzy's had figured out their formula and Jailbreak became their breakout LP. Showcasing the tuneful songs of Phil Lynott and the expert twin guitar interplay of Scott Gorman and Brian Robertson, the album is the ultimate combination or power and melody.Lyrically,  Lynott tapped into mythos of both Irish folklore and the American west to create his own version of story songs written by the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison. Musically, Jailbreak is an absolute blast to listen to, providing future inspiration for both punk bands and bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.  Visit us at www.tappingvinyl.com.

Rockshow episode 210 The Story of Phil Lynott and Thin LizzyPhilip Parris Lynott, born on August 20, 1949, in West Bromwich, England, and raised in Dublin, Ireland, was the charismatic frontman, bassist, and primary songwriter of Thin Lizzy—one of the most influential rock bands of the 1970s and early 80s. Known for his poetic lyrics, distinctive voice, and commanding stage presence, Lynott played a crucial role in shaping the band's signature sound, blending hard rock with Celtic influences and storytelling. The Formation of Thin Lizzy (1969-1972)Lynott formed Thin Lizzy in Dublin in 1969, along with drummer Brian Downey, guitarist Eric Bell, and organist Eric Wrixon (who left shortly after). The band was named after a character from a comic book (The Dandy's “Tin Lizzie”). They signed with Decca Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1971, but mainstream success eluded them at first.Their breakthrough came in 1972 with their reworking of the traditional Irish folk song “Whiskey in the Jar,” which became a major hit in Ireland and the UK. However, after their next few albums underperformed, Eric Bell left the band, leading to a major lineup change that would define their classic sound. The Classic Thin Lizzy Lineup (1974-1980)After Bell's departure, Thin Lizzy transitioned into a twin-guitar rock powerhouse. Lynott recruited Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson, forming the band's legendary dual-guitar attack. Their first major success in this era came with “The Boys Are Back in Town” (1976) from the Jailbreak album, which remains their most famous song.Notable Albums & Songs:•Jailbreak (1976) – “The Boys Are Back in Town,” “Jailbreak” •Johnny the Fox (1976) – “Don't Believe a Word” •Bad Reputation (1977) – “Dancing in the Moonlight,” “Bad Reputation”•Live and Dangerous (1978) – Regarded as one of the greatest live rock albums of all time•Black Rose: A Rock Legend (1979) – “Do Anything You Want To,” “Waiting for an Alibi,” “Black Rose”Thin Lizzy became known for their explosive live performances, poetic lyrics, and blending of hard rock with Irish storytelling. However, internal tensions, particularly with Brian Robertson's unreliability, led to lineup changes. The Later Years & Decline (1980-1983)Thin Lizzy disbanded in 1983 after a farewell tour, marking the end of an era.Phil Lynott's Solo Career & Tragic DeathAfter Thin Lizzy, Lynott pursued a solo career, releasing two albums:•Solo in Soho (1980) – “King's Call,” “Dear Miss Lonelyhearts”•The Philip Lynott Album (1982) He also collaborated with musicians like Gary Moore (“Out in the Fields”) and worked on various projects. However, his drug addiction worsened, and in late 1985, he collapsed due to complications from heroin and alcohol abuse.Phil Lynott passed away on January 4, 1986, at the age of 36.Thin Lizzy's LegacyDespite Lynott's passing, Thin Lizzy's influence remains strong. Various members have carried on the band's music, with Scott Gorham leading tribute tours. Lynott's lyrical storytelling, stage presence, and fusion of Celtic themes with hard rock inspired countless musicians, including Metallica, Iron Maiden, and U2.Today, Lynott is celebrated as Ireland's first great rock star, with statues, documentaries, and tributes keeping his legacy alive.Essential Listening for New Fans: Phil Lynott remains one of rock's most beloved and tragic figures—a poet, a rocker, and a legend whose music still resonates today.http://www.thinlizzy.org/phil.htmlhttps://youtube.com/@thinlizzyofficial?si=HtxqVIFF3_AuRiWrhttps://www.thinlizzyofficial.com/https://www.facebook.com/share/15serR1qV2/?mibextid=wwXIfrhttps://x.com/thinlizzy_?s=21&t=Mzw5de5zsR-SDDbhyzH0Lghttps://www.instagram.com/thinlizzy?igsh=bjE3aXRvdnhnMDVh#ThinLizzy #PhilLynott #RockLegends #ClassicRock #IrishRock #TheBoysAreBackInTown #Jailbreak #LiveAndDangerous #70sRock #HardRock #WhiskeyInTheJar #BlackRose #DancingInTheMoonlight #RockNRoll #LegendaryBands

Je reçois aujourd'hui Lorraine Margherita, consultante collaborative, membre de Sociocracy For All et  autrice du livre Shared Decision Making in the Corporate Arena.

Winnie and Mark explore the interconnectedness of systems, people, and relationships within an organization, emphasizing the importance of curiosity, humility, and intentionality in navigating the shift towards more empowered and adaptive operating models.Leaderless Teams Misconception: Leaderless teams do not mean less leadership but rather more distributed leadership and ownership within a team.Holacracy Framework: Holacracy is a specific framework for self-management developed by Brian Robertson in 2006 or 2007, used by many self-managed organizations worldwide.Organization Design: Organizations need to evolve their own ways of self-organization and self-management beyond frameworks like Holacracy to truly embody their unique culture and values.Playbook of the Organization: Organizations already have implicit ways of working, but making these explicit and aligning them with intentions and values is crucial for effective functioning.Cultivating Safety: Cultivating psychological safety and inclusiveness within a team is essential for enabling participation and harnessing the full potential of team members.Disagreement in Teams: Disagreement is a natural part of diverse teams and should be harnessed as a source of innovation and growth rather than avoided.Decision-Making Clarity: Making decision ownership explicit and editable within an organization fosters clarity and empowers individuals to contribute effectively.Humility in Leadership: Humility is a key trait for effective leadership, acknowledging uncertainty and creating space for learning and growth within the organization.ResourcesMark Raheja | LinkedInWinnie da Silva | LinkedIn

Lord of the Les Paul and Mariscal of the Marshall Stack, Scott Gorham shot to worldwide prominence with the legendary rock band Thin Lizzy. He created what would become known subsequently as “The Twin Guitar Attack” - a harmonised lead guitar style developed alongside players such as Brian Robertson and Gary Moore, driving home the larger-than-life persona of frontman and bass player Phil Lynott. At the height of their powers, Thin Lizzy were a world-straddling colossus of a band - hard rocking for sure but real songwriters, too. And just incredible live! I caught up with Scott at what used to be Olympic Recording Studios in Barnes (Led Zeppelin, Queen, Lizzy ... they all made records there). It's now a cinema complex and restaurant with a private members club hidden away for those in the know.  We talk about Scott's early exposure to the guitar and live music, his relocation from California to London, and an audition for Thin Lizzy which I suspect would have broken most of us. We discuss the iconography of Gibson's Les Paul model. In particular, the heavily supervised shopping trip for the mini-humbucker Deluxe model with which Scott has become synonymous. We go deep on the semantics of scratch plates, amplifiers the size of a family SUV, and what happens when your guitar gets famous without you.  But it wasn't all gold tops, champagne and caviar, life in Thin Lizzy could be tempestuous and Scott is candid about the darker times including how golf helped with the pain of recovery from addiction. Hey, if it works… right? We talk in depth about Scott's secret double life as a visual artist, discuss two of the rarest materials in the universe and share a fond hope that benevolent extraterrestrial life might just have our backs after all. Now, what no-one knew - because he had kept it a secret from the world - is that Scott Gorham is an extremely skilled artist and some of his extraordinarily detailed pencil drawings from the Thin Lizzy period have been rediscovered and are now available as fine art prints. He's had his first gallery showing and it's all going rather well. You can see more here: https://scottgorhamworld.com Take a look at Pain, Curiosity and Apocalypse, three works that we discuss in detail.  Be advised - the language gets a little fruity as we progress. It doesn't get too awful, but listeners with delicate sensibilities or the under-fives should proceed with caution. This episode was brought to you by the kind sponsorship of Guitar Tech Courses. The first Motörhead release without Fast Eddie Clarke and the only to include his replacement, ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson could have been a disaster.  Instead, it's Another Perfect Day.  Lemmy's rasp and bass roar remain in tack as does Filthy Phil's frenetic pounding, and while Fast Eddie's speedy riffing is missed, in it's place are Robertson's newly welcomed guitar melodies that add another dimension to the ferocity of the patented Motörhead sound.  The band would soon return to their meat and potatoes approach but the outlier that is APD remains a bright stop in their glorious catalog.     RIP Lemmy RIP Fast Eddie RIP Filthy Phil    Recommended Listening:    EP134:  Motörhead “Ace of Spades” https://huntsmanhill.com/2020/08/17/ep134-motorhead-ace-of-spades-soundtrack-to-the-apocalypse-vol-20/   EP219:  Motörhead “Overkill” https://huntsmanhill.com/2023/04/22/ep219-motorhead-overkill/   Spotify Playlist Track:   “Shine” https://open.spotify.com/track/5yaNFVKP8KGTFgj8td5tGU?si=1662a5c41b9d4e72   Spotify Playlist:  https://open.spotify.com/user/1298220429/playlist/4gy1wWwypkoFS2lUztvZ44?si=waSq07DBQlq3x9G1_nK0pg   Contact us at:  huntsmanhillpodcast@gmail.com   Our Music manhuntsman:  https://open.spotify.com/artist/7tFBWn0UFkdOEMf67TRD6W?si=vzllkbDwSEmfZFlj02GLRw Academy O.C:  https://academyoc.bandcamp.com/album/academy-o-c   Omertà 68:  https://open.spotify.com/artist/6dfiCa0qTlbPQUrqtIkStS?si=6SCjNtXbSO2xRBDuBKJelQ MidCityThree:  https://open.spotify.com/artist/2LW7wWSHd9bi3n3Q5N8i35?si=4UnUthYNR4K9FMv2dqFOVw   huntsmanhill.com instagram.com/huntsmanhill https://twitter.com/HuntsmanHill

This episode is such a gem for all the Holacracy enthusiasts out there. It is the second time that I had a pleasure to sit down with Dennis Wittrock, one of the early pioneers of Holacracy in Europe, and discuss the intricacies of Holacracy. Dennis is a certified Holacracy Master Coach and currently works for an official Holacracy provider Xpreneurs. Apart from that, he is also partner at encode.org., a consulting company powered by Holacracy which is creating legal, social and financial foundations for self-organization. In addition, Dennis is a co-founder of Integral European Conference. And on top of that, Dennis has just published his first book called “Holacracy verstehen: Kritik – Wissenschaft – Praxis” (in German). I am grateful to Dennis for taking these 1.5 hours to delve into the most important topics covered in the book. If you want to learn more about Dennis, then visit his webpage: www.denniswittrock.com “Holacracy can be a tremendous catalyst for transformation, where people say, ‘Oh, the way Holacracy taught me to manage my tensions as a role filler helped me with my psychological work.' I think Brian (Robertson) cites people that have said to him, ‘What I learned in practicing Holacracy for three months surprised even my therapist.' In Holacracy people start to relate to tensions they sense in a different way. The word ‘tension' itself is reframed from passively having an unpleasant experience to ‘oh, I want to do something about it!' This is the energy that a tension entails. And Holacracy helps us to frame it in a proactive way: tension is experienced when you feel that something is not as it could be and you want it to be different. And the more the distance between the current and desired state of things, the bigger the tension. Experiencing these tensions is a sign of life, actually, that you are alive. If you don't feel the tensions, you probably are dead or in a coma. But that is not a good state for an organization to be in nor is it for you as a human being to be in. You do not want to be walked all over like a doormat. But if you feel a tension, you want to find a way to express that and resolve that. This where Holacracy becomes a driving force behind purposeful action.”– Dennis Wittrock Listen and enjoy!

After Collapse: The End of America and the Rebirth of Her Ideals By: Max Borders Hear it Here - https://bit.ly/AfterCollapseBordersAmerica is in her twilight. Our systems are headed for collapse. So say goodbye to politics as we know it. In this audacious book, Max Borders shows us that American society is breaking down: Our socio-economic models are faulty. Our hierarchies are strained. Our belief in the founding ideals is fading. Our systems of mutual aid are dying. Our collective intelligence is fractured. Our civil discourse is deteriorating. Our government is in debt and disorder. Just one of the above challenges would be bad enough. But seven? These are a consequence of a deep imbalance. Borders argues that when the masculine coercion paradigm and the feminine persuasion paradigm get out of balance, collapse looms. Despite laying out a disquieting case for America's fall, Borders presents a transpartisan vision for a different kind of society. With a futurist's foresight, Borders draws from the world's wisdom traditions to reimagine the American Founding. At the same time, he calls on us all to turn inward, to become better people, and to criticize by creating. This is your guide to the post-collapse era."One of the books I recommend the most, and secretly wish the whole world would read." - Brian Robertson, creator of Holacracy on The Social Singularity. #AaronBastani #AdamSmith #AndrewMcAfee #AndrewStover #Apurimac #ArnoldKling #Bastani #BBCsNicFleming #Bionomics #CarolinaBaums #ChunkaWui #CommunityReinvestmentAct #DanielDennett #DavidSloanWilson #Diamandis #Economics #EconomistThomasSowell #ElinorOstrom #ElonMusk #FredericBastiat #FriedrichHayek #GaryBecker #GeorgeLakoff #HerbertMarcuse #HighMinds #JamesCScott #JamesHanusa #JaredDiamond #JemBendell #JeremyRifkin #JosephStiglitz #KarlMarx #Kennedy #KennedyMusk #LudwigVonMises #MichaelOakeshott #MichaelRothschild #NormanBorlaug #PaulKrugman #SocialistCommonwealth #StevenPinker #Technocracy #Technosocialism #WalterLippmann #WashingtonStiglitz #ZachMortice #RussellNewton #NewtonMG #AfterCollapse #TheBreakdownOfOurMetaphorsAndModels #MaxBorders

Christian talks about how he's successfully navigated these waters and just might share some pro tips about how to get current customers and prospects interested in your pitch! Welcome to the podcast that's designed to fuel your success in selling technology solutions. I'm your host, Josh Lupresto SVP of Sales Engineering at Telarus, and this is Next Level BizTech. Hey, everybody. Welcome back. On this week, we're talking about cloud. We're talking about specifically why licensing and security and infrastructure are also critical for Microsoft. Today, we've got the wonderful Christian O'Brien from Atlas IP. Christian, welcome on, my man. Hey, Josh. How's it going today? Better now that you're here. Let's kick this thing off, man. I think everybody wants to hear about your background. Tell us just a little bit about you. We're going to get to Atlas in a second, but tell us a little bit about your background. How did you get into tech? How did you get into sales? Any crazy winding path, or have you just always set out and fill us in? Yeah, sure. I can go way back. I actually am a big sports fan, so when I was in college, I actually wanted to be a sports broadcaster. Major was mass communications. Realized that's not the road I wanted to go. I did a business minor, realized that sales was for me a little bit loose. Started as a BDR at a small cybersecurity firm in Boston. Then I jumped to Fuse, which was Unified Communications Platform. Ended up in the channel where I met Atlas IP, a bunch of different other partners. Then when the 8x8 purchase of Fuse happened, Atlas IP reached out to me and said, "Hey, Christian, what do you think about becoming a partner?" I worked with these guys forever, know the industry, and thought about it, and then realized, "Hey, these guys bring a lot of value to their customers." Obviously, the commission is you can make as much as you want. There's a lot of freedom in it. You know what? I'm going to take a jump towards it. Here I am a year and a half in, and definitely a good decision. I love it. Now, I got to ask, I heard the accent there. Boston, and you got the sports background. You have a lot of sports options in Boston. What was your favorite? Oh, football for me. Football through high school. Didn't get the opportunity to play in college, but massive Pats fan. If you don't, I probably will say wicked at least twice during this podcast. Just for people who aren't used to it, it's going to happen. It's going to happen. I love it. All right. Now, tell us a little bit about then your role at Atlas, and really who Atlas IP is. Sure. I'm a technology advisor for Atlas IP. There's about 10 of us at the company run by Nick Prosser and Brian Robertson. They're the presidents. They started the company about 10, 12 years ago, I believe. Really focused in at the beginning on moving PBXs to the cloud. Since I've been on here a little bit before I even joined, they've decided to really dive into different technologies. Once you have a client selling UCaaS or CCaaS or something like that, there's a bunch of different opportunities that you can really provide them. For Microsoft, for example, who provides your Microsoft licensing for security? That's a whole other branch of revenue for us and just opportunities to talk to the customer. We've been really trying to be more open with the technologies that we're pitching to our clients and just basically listening for those trigger words into different technologies other than UCaaS but that's still pretty core competency over here. Awesome. I love it. Let's talk about that. You mentioned licensing.

Robin McAuley began his musical career when he started playing drums at the age of nine in his native Ireland. Later in life, after moving to England, he dropped his drum sticks, put a microphone in his hand, and began singing with a local pub band, playing all around London. This eventually led to Robin joining the band Grand Prix, which recorded two albums with Robin as lead vocalist and achieved some chart success. After the band split, Robin helped form a band with Motorhead drummer Phil Taylor, Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson, and bassist Chris Glenn. The band did not last long, but did release one EP entitled War Games. Next he ended up recording with the group Far Corporation who had chart success in England with a remake of Stairway To Heaven. This version of the song caught Rudolf and Michael Schenker's attention, which eventually led to Robin joining forces with Michael Schenker and the McAuley Schenker group was born. They went on to record three studio albums and one Live Unplugged album. Robin would go on to play in Survivor for a while and more recently has released two albums with the band Black Swan as well as two solo albums, the latest of which, entitled Alive, came out on February 17, 2023. Robin joins us to talk about his latest release and we take a listen to one of the killer tracks from Alive!

That included stints in Thin Lizzy, the band Phil led, which we explore this week.Their songs had their own legend, and broke them worldwide, but it was the live shows that sealed their reputation, badass as it was.  Markus and Ray try to detail as much as possible about the formation and evolution of Thin Lizzy, and the varied factors that worked for, and against, the band.Hope you find some good stuff in this one. Is data the new oil? Should you be friends with your clients? Join Ryan to find out these questions and more as he speaks to CEO and founder of VisiQuate Brian Robertson. Brian has been leading the use of advanced analytics to disrupt economics and improve how the healthcare industry operates. Listen in to this episode to discover why the data economy is so expansive, what ‘business health' really means and how Brian has managed to achieve success in this space for over 30 years. KEY TAKEAWAYS Brian is incredibly proud of what his team achieved during the pandemic especially as they were previously very trade-show centric. In the healthcare industry in the US, you have to be known to become successful. One of the ways to become known in this competitive industry is to be highly recommended by existing clients, building credibility alongside reputation. VisiQuate have quite a complex and long sales cycle. They therefore take the time to build relationships with their clients, creating relationship equity and trust. It's really about the power of relationships in their business. We live in a data economy now. Data is often referred to as the ‘new oil', Brian parallels the process of data to the processing of fossil fuels into oil. The stages both have to go through is strikingly similar. Data is hyper-valuable so it can be difficult to gain trust from clients. Brian's goal is to be friends with his clients, he wants to be so trusted by his clients that he is on their Christmas card list. If you're working in enterprise sales, having a strong relationship based on true value and therefore trust, is essential. A great way to create momentum and buy in with a new client is to involve them in the processes as much as possible. One way Ryan's team does this is through their systems training, they guide the client through locating their own issues and problems and then help form the solutions. BEST MOMENTS “Data is the new oil” “Everyone on the team is an expert at what they do” “Are you good at what you do but are you fun to be around and likeable?” “The goal is to have it happen organically and naturally, where the client is coming up with the ideas” Do You Want The Closing Secrets That Helped Close Over $125 Million in New Business for Free?"  Grab them HERE: https://www.whalesellingsystem.com/closingsecrets   Ryan Staley Founder and CEO Whale Boss 312-848-7443 ryan@whalesellingsystem.com www.ryanstaley.io    EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.linkedin.com/in/bcrobertson https://www.visiquate.com/about/leadership/brian-robertson https://thehealthcareinsights.com/visiquate-helping-healthcare-organizations-achieve-peak-business-health-with-advanced-analytics/   ABOUT THE SHOW How do you grow like a VC backed company without taking on investors?
