Entre los escombros de uno de los edificios de La Guaira, un vecino consiguió sacar con vida a Mikel Abecia, ingeniero civil, de padres españoles. S'il est difficile d'obtenir des chiffres précis sur le nombre de viols commis en Haïti, le travail des associations haïtiennes ou des organisations internationales permet d'avoir des estimations. Médecins sans frontières a ainsi publié, il y a quelques semaines, un rapport à partir des cas recensés dans une de ses cliniques spécialisées à Port-au-Prince, un centre qu'elle considère comme un baromètre de la situation. « Entre 2022 et 2025, les cas ont triplé, rapporte Diana Manilla Arroyo, cheffe de mission de MSF en Haïti. Se pose aussi la question des grossesses non désirées. Les organisations de défense des droits des femmes manquent de moyens, notamment depuis la fermeture de l'agence de développement américaine, l'Usaid, par Donald Trump l'an dernier (2025). Certaines associations ont dû fermer des centres d'hébergement ou licencier du personnel. Il y a aussi eu une baisse des moyens pour la contraception.
