The Stockdale varsity Brahma baseball team traveled to La Grange to face off against Tidehaven for the first round of Bi-District playoffs. The Brahmas finished off with a close Bi-District win, 9-8, with junior Mason Almeida earning Player of the Game from Texas High School Baseball. The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs softball team hosted the Stockdale Lady Brahmas April 8 and secured an exciting 5-4 victory. It was a total team effort by the Mustangs, and senior catcher Hailee Houseton had an amazing game, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBIs, and one double. Junior Sadie Walden recorded her first hit of the season. The Lady Mustangs traveled to Luling April 11 for their second matchup of the season with the Lady Eagles. The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs started their week by hosting the Stockdale Brahmas, who were on a four-game losing streak, April 8. However, the Brahmas showed up and shut down the Mustangs with a 14-1 victory. The only run for the Mustangs came from sophomore Nehemiah Alvarez in the fourth inning. The Mustangs then traveled to Luling April 11 for their second matchup of the season, defeating the Eagles, 5-3, in the first game March 25. Poth High School varsity Pirates baseball team hosted the Stockdale Brahmas March 25 and secured an 8-4 win. Game highlights include: •Pirate junior Lucas Trevino collected three hits in three at-bats. Trevino singled in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. •Poth flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-2. Despite the Nixon-Smiley varsity Mustangs' collecting five hits compared to the Stockdale Brahma's three, they still lost 1-4 on March 21 at home. Federico Vazquez led the Mustangs with two hits, while Julian Amaya struck out 10 batters during the game. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and four runs over six innings, walking three batters. Garet Gonzales got Nixon-Smiley on the board in the top of the first inning with a walk.
