Send us Fan MailWe all go a little mad sometimes, but we've gotta cover 1996's Scream. Our parents are gonna be so mad at us, but it's the most iconic horror film of the 90s, and as we told you in our last episode, we'd be right back! Unfortunately, we can't post any quotes from our second film (which we cover first, and for not as long), Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. But we can say, Nic cheated because the only planet where that movie is a punishment is Easilyoffendedia, which astronomers actually declared "not a planet" anymore some time before Pluto.  Justice for Pluto!Music Heard this Episode"Trouble in Woodsboro" -- Marco BeltramiSupport the showIntro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!TwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Entre nostalgia barata, personagens esquecíveis e uma reviravolta digna de ser jogada no lixo, o RdMCast dessa semana mergulha sem freio no ódio para elencar tudo o que deu de errado neste novo capítulo protagonizado por Ghostface. The Film Board by The Next Reel Film Podcasts

Ghostface is back. Sidney Prescott is back. Kevin Williamson — the writer who started it all in 1996 — is back, this time in the director's chair. And The Film Board is here to pick through the wreckage.Pete Wright convenes the panel — Tommy Metz III, Steve Sarmento, and Mandy Kaplan — for a full-spoiler autopsy of Scream 7, the franchise's seventh installment and its most complicated origin story yet. The film arrives trailing the collapse of a whole other movie: Melissa Barrera's firing, Jenna Ortega's departure, two directors exiting before a frame was shot, and Neve Campbell finally getting what she was owed to come back. What ended up on screen bears those scars — and the panel doesn't look away from them. There's plenty to argue about. Tommy arrives as the franchise's longest-tenured Film Board voice and delivers his most critical take yet — the kills are flat, the villain reveal is the weakest in franchise history, and the AI deepfake conceit is nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. Steve, against form, finds himself in the film's corner: the Sidney-Tatum mother-daughter dynamic gives him something real to hold onto, and he'll take that over clever-but-hollow any day. Mandy had a genuinely good time, found Anna Camp's casting as transparent as a freshly-cleaned window, and would very much like Tatum's next chapter to be a musical. Pete sits somewhere in the middle — glad to have Kevin Williamson back, troubled by what he had to work with, and still thinking about the better movie that never got made. They get into the production chaos, the Barrera-shaped hole in the script, the question of whether the AI angle says anything worth saying, the correct use of a panic room, the mystery of a certain line reading, and whether Scream 7 has dethroned Scream 3 at the bottom of the franchise pile.

We start with the critically acclaimed Brazilian thriller The Secret Agent. Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, it stars the brilliant Wagner Moura as a man on the run navigating the heights of Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s. It's a masterclass in tension and atmosphere.Fun Flix Fact: To achieve its stunning, retro look, the film was shot in anamorphic Panavision, the same format used for 1970s classics. The director even included a "two-faced cat" as an omen—a nod to Brazil's own dual reality of the past and the future. The Ghostface mask is back! We're reviewing the latest instalment of the legendary slasher franchise. Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, and this time, the stakes are personal as her daughter becomes the target.Fun Flix Fact: This is the first film in the entire franchise to be directed by Kevin Williamson, the man who actually wrote the original Scream (1996)! After 30 years of producing and writing, he finally stepped behind the camera to bring the Woodsboro story full circle. Finally for our main reviews, we're heading to the 19th-century Caribbean for The Bluff. Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays a woman with a secret past who must protect her family when vicious buccaneers (led by a terrifying Karl Urban) invade her island.Fun Flix Fact: Priyanka Chopra Jonas performed a massive amount of her own stunts for this film. Drawing on her extensive background in Bollywood action cinema, she reportedly surprised the stunt team with her "hard-hitting physicality" during the brutal home-invasion sequences. To tie into the political intrigue of The Secret Agent, we're celebrating 20 years of the film that earned Forest Whitaker his well-deserved Oscar. We revisit the terrifying regime of Idi Amin through the eyes of his personal Scottish doctor (James McAvoy).Fun Flix Fact: Forest Whitaker was so dedicated to the role that he stayed in character as Idi Amin even when the cameras weren't rolling. He learned to play the accordion, mastered the Ugandan accent, and even met with Amin's real-life brother and former cabinet members to perfect the performance. For this week's Hidden Gem, we're recommending the epic historical musical The Testament of Ann Lee. Amanda Seyfried stars as the founding leader of the Shakers in 18th-century Manchester and America.Fun Flix Fact: This is a rare breed—a "historical musical" shot on 70mm film! It features more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns reimagined as rapturous musical numbers. If you loved Amanda in Les Misérables, you absolutely cannot miss her powerhouse vocals here. And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. Press play for the friendliest film discussions this side of Hollywood! Scream Directed by Wes Craven Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich Wes Craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts - but the victims aren't always the ones you'd expect. Scream 2 Wes Craven Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette Sydney (Neve Campbell) and tabloid reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) survived the events of the first Scream, but their nightmare isn't over. When two college students are murdered at a sneak preview of Stab, a movie based on the events from the first film, it's clear a copycat killer is on the loose. Sydney and Gail, as well as fellow survivors Deputy Dewey (David Arquette) and Randy (Jamie Kennedy) have to find out who is behind this new murder spree, before they all end up dead. Scream 3 Directed by Wes Craven Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette The last instalment in the 'Scream' trilogy is set in Hollywood, where 'Stab 3' is being shot, with Gale Weathers and Dwight Riley on set as advisors to Jennifer Jolie. Unfortunately, a killer decides to off the cast in the order of the screenplay and only 'Sid' Prescott, now in hiding until the killer tracks her down, can solve the riddle. Scream 4 Directed by Wes Craven Starring Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Courtney Cox, Neve Campbell It has been many years since the Ghostface Killer cut a deadly path through the town of Woodsboro. In order to get over the trauma of those horrific events, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has written a self-help book. She returns to Woodsboro for her book tour, and reconnects with old friends Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette). However, Sidney's arrival also sparks the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney and everyone she loves in danger. Scream 5 Directed by Tyler Gillett, Matt Bettinelli Olpin Starring Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrara, Jack Quaid, Mikey Madison, Neve Campbell Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past. Scream 6 Directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli Olpin Starring Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrara, Mason Gooding, Courtney Cox Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City. However, they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when a new killer embarks on a bloody rampage. Scream 7 Directed by Kevin Williamson Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Joel McHale When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, she must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.

071 - Scram 7, Dir. Kevin Williamson From 1996 - 2026, Scream is a franchise that has found success for 30 years now.  Ghost Face is as iconic as any killer in the horror / Slasher genres along with his voice on the phone.before his victims die a gruesome death.   2016's Scream 7, while being a mainline entry, could be the weakest installment in the franchise with the reveal of the killer(s)  being the most disappointing as there is no real link to the original Woodsboro murders.  Is it finally time to just let Scream just exist in the pages of film history? 0:00:00 - Introductions and Banter 0:12:30 - Box Office  0:15:50 - Movie Recommendation- Scream, Dir. This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we're slicing into the modern "requel" era of the most self-aware franchise in horror history. With Scream 7 currently on the horizon for 2026, we're looking back at the two films that successfully passed the torch from the Woodsboro legacy to the "Core Four." We're comparing the 25th-anniversary homecoming of Scream (2022) with the big-city brutality of Scream VI (2023). Scream (2022) Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (collectively known as Radio Silence), this fifth installment serves as a "requel"—a movie that functions as both a sequel and a soft reboot. Set 25 years after the original murders, a new Ghostface emerges in Woodsboro, targeting a group of teens with links to the town's bloody past. The film introduces the Carpenter sisters, Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega), while bringing back the "Legacy Trio" (Sidney, Gale, and Dewey) to help them survive. It masterfully skewers the trend of "elevated horror" and toxic fandom, all while delivering some of the most emotional blows in the entire series. Scream VI (2023) Leaving Woodsboro behind for the first time in the main timeline, the survivors of the 2022 massacre move to New York City to start a fresh chapter at college. However, Ghostface follows them to the Big Apple. This entry ups the ante with more aggressive, ruthless chase sequences—including a nail-biting encounter in a bodega and a terrifying subway ride on Halloween night. With a shrine dedicated to every past Ghostface and the return of Scream 4 survivor Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), Scream VI is a fast-paced, urban slasher that challenges the rules of the franchise by proving that even the main characters are no longer safe. Before you see the new Scream 7 this weekend, join u s for this episode as we discuss which film did a better job of balancing nostalgia with new blood? And who is the ultimate modern final girl? Spoilers start around 5:45.

Cast Me To Hell: A Horror Podcast

Ahead of the hotly anticipated Scream 7, we thought we would discuss the last time Kevin Williamson wrote a Scream film. Scream 4 sees Wes Craven's final directorial duties, as Sydney Prescott returns to Woodsboro just in time for another slaughter. Arriving after a slew of torture porn, paranormal films and a bunch of gritty reimagining of classic horror remakes, Scream 4 centres around the idea of remakes and the state of horror in the early 2000s. But how does Scream 4 stack up when compared to the rest of the franchise? Why does it look so weird? Is it a worthwhile instalment or is this one that makes Scream feel dated? This week on Forgotten Cinema: Lead Up, the Mikes continue their road to "Scream 7" with "Scream 4", Wes Craven's return to Woodsboro more than a decade after the original trilogy. Both Mike Butler and Mike Field still enjoy this entry, especially for its strong kills and surprisingly ahead-of-its-time themes about streaming culture, internet fame, and the performance of violence for an audience. The film feels eerily prescient in how it tackles social media obsession before it completely took over the world. That said, there is a lot of unmined potential here. Butler feels the third act drops the ball slightly with a convenient ending and not doing quite enough with the Ghostface killers in the final stretch. Both Mikes also agree that Hayden Panettiere's Kirby could have been positioned as the new Final Girl. With her horror movie expertise and charisma, she could have served as a fascinating long-term foil to Ghostface. The Mikes also dig into the long-standing rumor that "Scream 4" was intended to launch a new trilogy centered on a killer who gets away with it, only to be hunted by new Ghostfaces in future installments. It is an intriguing idea that makes the existing ending feel like a missed opportunity.Still sharp, still brutal, and more relevant than ever, "Scream 4" stands as a bold attempt to reinvent the franchise, even if it stops just short of fully committing to its most interesting ideas. So join the Mikes as the go through each film in the "Scream" saga leading up to the release of "Scream 7".What are your thoughts on this current end of the "Sydney" saga and how it compares to your opinions of 5 and 6? Scream 4 (2011) Full Movie Reaction, Breakdown, Commentary & Spoiler Review! — with hosts Roxy Striar & Tara Erickson diving into Wes Craven's razor-smart return to Woodsboro, a sequel that reboots, reinvents, and viciously satirizes a new generation obsessed with horror, fame, and social media. Directed by Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and written by Kevin Williamson, Scream 4 brings back franchise icons Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell — The Craft, Wild Things), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox — Friends), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette — Eight Legged Freaks) as Ghostface launches a brutal new killing spree in a world shaped by viral videos, internet notoriety, and remake culture. Roxy & Tara break down the film's most memorable moments: the multi-layered fake-out opening kills, the brutal escalation of Ghostface's attacks, the hospital ambush, the “rules of remakes” speech delivered by Randy's legacy, and the shocking final act reveal that reframes obsession, jealousy, and the hunger for relevance in the digital age. They also explore standout performances from Emma Roberts (American Horror Story) as Jill Roberts, Hayden Panettiere (Heroes) as horror-obsessed Kirby Reed, and Rory Culkin (Lords of Chaos) as the unsettling Charlie Walker.
