What if businesses thought of people first? Justin Jones, a co-founder of Bovaconti and founder of Georgia Street Grind, joins us to share how he put this philosophy into practice. While the Plainfield, IN native was attending Indiana State University for a degree in biomedical technology, he recognized that debt was not worth the degree and decided to move to Rahway, New Jersey for a modeling job. After realizing that he did not fit in the modeling industry, he decided to go home only a few months before 9/11. Six months later, he returned to his side job in New York at a catering business. Justin's experience influenced him to co-found a catering business, which he sold months before the 2008 recession. At only 28-years-old, Justin moved back to Indiana to start a simpler life. He landed a job at the newly opening JW Marriot as a Banquet Captain and moved up quickly. When he reached the level of committing to a life in the industry, he decided to quit and start Georgia Street Grind and eventually, Bovaconti, to execute his values of a people-first business model. Take a sip as we learn how Bovaconti is supporting its staff during the COVID-19 outbreak, how Justin's beliefs are filtered into every facet of his business, and how fate played a role in some of the pivotal moments in his life and career.  Learn about Bovaconti and Georgia Street Grind!    Check out our sponsors for this episode: FullStack PEO - Turnkey HR for Emerging Companieshttps://www.linkedin.com/company/27092746/ https://twitter.com/fullstackpeo https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Consulting-Agency/FullStack-PEO-1107694849373703/ Upland Brewing Co. https://www.uplandbeer.com/ https://www.instagram.com/uplandbrewco/ https://www.facebook.com/UplandBrewingCo Drink Culture Website: https://www.drnkcltr.com Drink Culture Newsletter: https://www.drnkcltr.com/newsletter/ Drink Culture Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/drnkcltr Drink Culture Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drinkculturepodcast/ Drink Culture Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drinkculturepodcast Drink Culture YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvrw7Fqfw4ZORgZMPJKio-A

This was a band that recorded this wonderful album in March of 1964 and yet it was never released until 3 years after Stan Getz' death in 1994. The title track is "Nobody Else But Me", a great standard by Kern and Hammerstein. The reason why it was never issued was because Stan's popular bossa nova albums were selling like hotcakes and the powers that be didn't wish to dilute the market too much. So the session became forgotten and locked in the vaults. It was this particular band's only formal recording and it features all straight-ahead swingers and ballads and no vocals and bossa nova tunes. This same band later appeared in the Fall of 1964 at Isy's Supper Club on Georgia Street in Vancouver and it was a major musical event. The quartet included a very young Gary Burton on vibes, Gene Cherico on bass and the wonderful and unfortunately obscure drummer Joe Hunt. The repertoire is mostly standards plus a beautiful waltz by Stan's friend alto saxophonist Phil Woods and two originals by Gary Burton. A wonderful and fresh sounding band. We're happy this one came out of the vaults!
