Hi everyone! Doone here - your host and hype girl. Thank you for tuning in to my solo episode this week. Today, I want to dive into the blueprint of what it means to build a truly sustainable brand in 2022. To do this we're learning from 7 guests we've had on the show who are putting the planet first. These are the brands leading the charge into a future where sustainability will be the rule over the exception. It's super relevant for any biz builders out there, because if you're not incorporating the planet into your business model moving forward, you will be left behind. 66% of executives already believe a sustainability strategy to be a necessity in the market today, with 60% of consumers listing it as an important purchase criteria. I'm so sure that these numbers are only going to rise as we continue to feel to the harsh impact of climate change on our beautiful blue planet. While this is so much more than a passing fashion trend, there is no denying that sustainability has become a bit of a buzz word in recent years. It's become so prolific it almost feels we're losing touch with both how serious we should be taking it, and just how difficult it is to properly achieve. I'm proud to have had these women on the show both open my eyes to the reality of the industry, and help us navigate how to go about this the right way. Let's jump straight into it. Here's are 7 key learnings from brands that are truly putting the planet first. We learn from Kester Black founder Anna Ross about how you should incorporate sustainability in your business model from the get-go. From Charlotte Pienaar from Everyday Humans we're reminded about the importance of focusing on the nitty gritty of the supply chain. Renewal Mill's Caroline Cotto highlights the importance of finding your sustainability tribe along this journey. For Chippin' founder Haley Russel it's all about joining forces with your community to bring your product to life. In chatting to Isabel Aagaard from LastObject we're reminded of the importance of true passion in what you're building, whilst Blueland founder Sarah Paiji Yoo puts the greatest emphasis on the power of educating and empowering people to make better lifestyle choices. We round off the solo episode with a learnings from Repurpose founder Lauren Gropper on how to go the long-mile and not give up before you've reached your goals. Let's get straight to it! Isabel Aagaard didn't just create a product, she started a movement. Her business, LastObject, creates eco-friendly, premium, beautiful I-should-have-thought-of-that! alternatives to single-use products. It all started with LastSwab: a reusable 'cotton' swab made with a material that's more like rubber or plastic. Unlike its disposable predecessor, it can be cleaned with soap and water and re-used over and over. Isabel and her cofounders went on to launch LastTissue, LastRound (makeup pads), and more eco-friendly products with equally catchy names. Isabel has a lot to share about how to get clear on your company's purpose, using Kickstarter to validate and shape your product design, testing prototypes, and the importance of pursuing a mission that will keep you working through all of the toughest entrepreneurial challenges. LastObject cofounder Isabel Aagaard joins us to talk about the company's latest product, the LastPad, a reusable menstrual pad made to be washed and reused up to 240 times. Single-use menstrual pads are a huge waste issue, representing a large share of ocean waste and producing billions of loose plastic wrappers, coated paper and the pads themselves every year. The LastPad comes in three sizes, including panty liners and overnight pads and the inner layer is made from bamboo, while the outer is polyester. LastObject launched the LastPad through Kickstarter and more than 46,000 people backed the project. Isabel shares how LastObject uses crowdfunding campaigns to co-design products with the consumers who will use them.

Spirit of 608: Fashion, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability + Tech
Want inspiration for building a design-driven business with sustainable values and rethinking single use daily habits that seem so, well, normal until you realize they've only been common for the last 50 to 100 years? Then you're going to be all ears for this week's guest on the Spirit of 608 podcast, Danish designer and Last Object co-founder Isabel Aagaard. Even at the helm of a fast-growing company (look out for their retail presence in U.S. Anthropologie stores soon) with a baby in a global pandemic, Isabel exudes chillpreneur (credit to Denise DT for the term) vibes, even though you'll hear her say in our conversation that she's not one to shy away from long hours and relentless attention to her business. Speaking of businesses, this isn't her first. Listen to the episode for why that's important (and also an office joke), as well as how this Copenhagen startup debuted its crowd-funding campaign with an email list 40K strong and has spent the last two years adding products like reusable face pads and tissues to its debut cotton swab alternative.
Isabel Aagaard is a co-founder and designer of LastObject. When she and her team discovered the harmful effects of single-use cotton swabs on the environment, they started working on a solution to fix it. Hør mere i vores podcast.
