Insulin resistance is frequently a silent contributor to a number of widespread chronic health conditions, including Alzheimer's, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. In fact, a startling 88% of adults experience some degree of insulin resistance. The condition is both pervasive yet easy to miss, making it that much more critical a topic to address. On today's episode, Cody has invited Dr. Morgan Nolte to discuss why changes to our diet, lifestyle, and mindset are key to reversing the condition, and why the end goal isn't simply weight loss, but rather body recomposition and long-term behavior change.DR. MORGAN NOLTE is a board-certified clinical specialist in geriatric physical therapy. Recognizing a lack of preventative education and care that focused on reversing risk factors instead of just treating symptoms, Dr. Nolte founded Zivli, an online course and coaching program that helps adults reverse insulin resistance for long-term weight loss and disease prevention. Dr. Nolte's content has reached millions of people through her podcast and YouTube channel, which now has over 100,000 subscribers. She's been a guest lecturer for local physical therapy departments, State and National Physical Therapy Organizations, and has been a guest addressing insulin resistance on top-rated wellness podcasts including Everyday Wellness with Cynthia Thurlow, The Ultimate Health Podcast, and the Dhru Purohit Show. If you had to name one of your biggest health fears, would breast cancer be top of your list? Public health campaigns have put this important health issue on our radar and obviously that's a good thing. Because according to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is diagnosed in 1 in 7 women. If you gather a small group of your girlfriends, someone is going to get it. It is real.Yet, when we talk about this concerning disease, the focus is often on detection (think mammograms) and treatment (think mastectomies). And, in my opinion, far too little is said about prevention. What about you? Are you in the know? How clued up are with knowing about the best lifestyle habits to reduce your breast cancer risk?In this episode, Cody shares what science is saying, what she has experienced through working with dozens of women with breast cancer diagnosis, as well as from personal experience through breast cancer scares and from supporting her sister who has been living with a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis for over 20 years. To help prevent breast cancer, it's important to recognize the links between elevated hormones and ill health. This is particularly true for estrogen.Did you learn something new today? Did you know that the birth rate is falling in many countries, and around a third of couples have some kind of trouble conceiving. So what's causing this decline? Is it really down to rogue chemicals wreaking havoc with our hormones? And how worried should we be?Endocrine disrupting chemicals can lead to many different reproductive health and fertility issues, as well as other forms of health issues. As is talked about in this episode, EDCs can contribute to endometriosis, they can worsen symptoms of PCOS, and they absolutely negatively impact male fertility as well.Endocrine disruptors are found in what seems like everything — they are in the plastic bottles we drink from, in our favorite cosmetics, and in the cleaning products that promise a sparkling home. They're more common than we are aware of and what we'd like to believe. In this episode, Cody talks about the top things we all should know about endocrine disruptors and fertility.Did you learn something new today? Immersing ourselves into very cold or nearly freezing water might be the absolute last thing any of us would ever choose to do, but it can be worth it — considering it's a habit that's linked to many health benefits, such as a boost in metabolism and circulation and it can significantly reduce pain and inflammation in the body. Because of the benefits and after many years of implementing it into her own wellness routine, Cody encourages most everyone to take advantage of it. But, as she encourages us to try cold-plunging, she also shares how to make the most of the benefits and how to avoid the disadvantages that affect us as women. There are special considerations to keep in mind for us, because of our unique hormonal cycles and our reproductive health. If we can understand how to integrate cold plunges into our monthly menstrual cycle we can maximize the benefits and avoid potential drawbacks, things like worsened cramps, for example. We all have different sex drives, so what's “normal” for you may not be for your best friend. Sexual desire can change daily, weekly, monthly, or even hourly.Sexual desire is complex, and what turns you on is so individualized. Add stress, sleep disruption, and feeling connected to a partner in the mix, and there's no single predictor of desire for anyone. But one thing is clear: your sex hormones play a huge role in helping—or keeping you from—getting in the mood.Given that sex hormones shift throughout your cycle, it's no wonder there are certain times of the month when you may feel more easily turned on and other times when your libido feels flatlined. On today's episode, Cody shares with us, all we need to know about sexual desire, the menstrual cycle, and how our hormones influence both.Did you learn something new today?
