Since the release of her second EP towards the end of 2018, Gretta Ray has been pretty quiet on the new music front. However, behind the scenes there’s been a lot of work going on. Exploring new collaborations, and growing as a person herself, the now 22yo Melbourne singer has been refining her sound and song writing. With a lot more new music to come in 2021, Gretta premiered her new single ‘Passion’ with Richard Kingsmill, speaking to him about the ground she feels she’s covered on the song, the challenges behind writing it, and what she’s learnt about herself from working with others the last two years. She also touched on her recent single with Japanese Wallpaper, reflecting on how her connection with him dates back to her final year at school when she was on the eve of winning Unearthed High in 2016.

For many guests on , high school is a place to cut your teeth, learn some covers and jam in your friend's garage. Gab Strum - AKA Japanese Wallpaper - is not your average guest. He's not even your average musician. He took to his laptop rather than guitars or drums, and with the first musical project he ever concocted he was lifted to national attention through winning triple j's Unearthed High competition.Bar Bands It's been one thing after another ever since - sold-out national tours, international interest, joining an indie rock band and teaming up with Allday to make the biggest tracks of either's career. While in Sydney supporting UK pop megastar Lily Allen, Gab ducked out of soundcheck to share his own tale of transformation from bedroom-dweller to theatre-filler. Japanese Wallpaper will be opening for Tycho at The Forum in Melbourne on July 23.Buy tickets here: https://www.ticketmaster.com.au/tycho-melbourne-23-07-2019/event/130056897A2816B5 Special thanks to Gab Strum, The Duke Hotel and Adam Buncher. Teenage wunderkind songwriter, producer and artist Japanese Wallpaper and I dig into Tame Imapala's Currents, Kevin Parker's introspective disco gem which just turned one year old. How did Parker construct songs that were equal parts emotionally devastating and danceable banger? What are the key influences that make up the Tame Impala sound? How do you know when to stop when you can control all aspects of your music to the nth degree? What does it sound like when you cut Rihanna's cover of Tame's “New Person Same Old Mistakes” together with the original? and what does ‘Currents' have in common with Carly Slay Jepsen's ‘Emotion' LP?
