Opportunity Zone incentives may soon reach new areas, thanks to a proposed extension through 2033. A key House committee has included major Opportunity Zone reforms in a sweeping tax package, aiming to give investors more time and more places to deploy capital gains for powerful tax advantages. The proposal would allow states to nominate a new round of zones—especially in rural communities—with even stronger incentives, while also tightening eligibility and expanding what kinds of income qualify for OZ investment. In this episode, Kathy Fettke breaks down what's in the bill, how it could reshape the Opportunity Zone landscape, and what investors should consider now as Congress debates the future of this high-impact program. "Where do I even stand on this team?" This simple question is what every team member secretly wonders - and yet... 78% of leaders wait until big milestones to provide recognition. In this week's episode, I share why "pouring gas on what's going well" transforms average performers into team champions, how to avoid the ole' "compliment sandwich," and the language to use when giving effective praise that drives real behavior change (without sounding like you're handing out participation awards). Research shows that the more positive feedback we give, the more receptive folks are to the constructive. --WORK WITH LIA:How many times have you thought "I wish this whole managing people thing was a little easier" or better yet - "tell me what to do to be a better manager and I'll do it"?I've got you covered ;) My new book, The New Manager Playbook, your comprehensive guide to managing with confidence and ease is now available!Grab your copy today!https://www.liagarvin.com/newmanagerplaybook/Want some support for yourself or your team, let's chat! Dylan offers his insights on the VIX spike in early August and what it might mean for the broader market. We then shift to the success of bitcoin ETFs and dive into how companies like Metaplanet and MicroStrategy are using financial engineering to increase their bitcoin holdings per share. Hello and welcome to Episode 234 of The People Powered Business Podcast.Today we are answering a question from our listener Virginia who asks: "How do you pass on feedback regularly to let staff know they're doing good (other than saying that… it gets repetitive and seems… contrary?) What are appropriate ways to show your appreciation?”What a great question! To help answer this I am going to zoom up and look at:What are the different types of feedback we should all be giving our teams?Explore the different ways to deliver any feedback;Discuss what we should be giving feedback on;Unpack when is the best time to give feedbackThen we'll delve into the core of Virginia's question and discuss the different ways to show appreciation to your team members; And we'll finish of by discussing what matters to the employee when it comes to getting feedback.Giving feedback is such an important part of a role as a leader within our business, and I loved this question because it focused on positive praise and appreciation rather than dealing with negative performance. If you have a question you'd like me to answer in a future episode, simply email it to hello@peoplepoweredbusiness.com.au or join our Facebook Group – details below. As always, I'd love you to join us inside our free Facebook Group, HR Support for Australian Businesses, so I can learn more about what's working for you and any challenges you might be having.Join Here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/hrsupportaustralia

Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

If a person does a good deed and gets positive feedback for what he did, that gives him the strength to make the effort to do that deed again. The greatest type of deed that a person could do is one that nobody knows about. But if no one knows about it, how is he going to get that positive feedback? The answer is with emunah. We know Hashem is watching and appreciating every effort we make. The fact that we know that it's even more valuable to Hashem that we're doing it in private will give us even more strength to continue. Sometimes Hashem Himself will give a person positive feedback for his good deeds. When that happens, the person gets even more chizuk . A man told me that his son needed extra help in his Gemara learning at school. They had time allotted each day to learn chavruta, and so this man asked Rosh Yeshiva if he could come to the school to learn with his son at that time. The Rosh Yeshiva was very impressed with this man's dedication and happily invited him to come every day during that one hour of chavruta with his son. The man sacrificed, taking away time from his job every single day to learn with his son. He was very dedicated. He prepared the Gemara each day so that he could have it clear when he learned with his son. It worked out so well last year that the man is looking forward to doing it again this upcoming year. A couple of weeks ago, he asked the Rosh Yeshiva which Gemara they would be learning so he could start preparing. The Rosh Yeshiva told him they were learning Masechet Pesachim from the beginning. The man began preparing. The first words in the Mishnah read, אור לארבעה עשר בודיקן את החמץ לאור הנר - On the אור of the 14th of Nisan, we have to check our homes for chametz using the light of a candle. There's a big discussion in the Gemara about what the word אור means. Does it mean the night of the 14th or does it mean the day of the 14th? The Gemara concludes that, in this context, the word אור means night. A couple of days after the man started preparing, he was told by his company that he had a Zoom meeting with a company called Laila, which means night. The meeting went extremely well. The next day, he had a different meeting on Zoom, and at this meeting, the representative he was speaking to was named Ohr. He couldn't believe it. Here, he was just learning about the word Ohr referring to night. And then he gets two meetings at work, one with Laila and one with Ohr, and they were both successful. But it gets better. A few days later, he had another meeting, and the customer introduced himself with the name Nir. The man almost fell off his chair. The Mishnah said we check for chametz with the light of a ner , which means candle. And now this customer's name is Nir. He felt so special, seeing how Hashem was showing him how much he appreciated the efforts he is making to help his son learn Gemara . When a person strengthens his emunah and believes in Hashem's absolute control, many times Hashem will show the person His control, and will give him the positive feedback he wants for the emunah he portrayed. A woman from Israel told me that a few people mentioned to her they heard her nephew was close to getting engaged, and they asked her who the girl was. She replied that she did not know. The other people couldn't believe she didn't know about her own nephew. She said it was extremely embarrassing. She knew that her brother was very private, but she really wanted to call him and find out who the girl is, in case it happened again. She did not want to be embarrassed like that again, but she also didn't want to pry into other people's lives. So she said to herself, "If I'm meant to know this information, Hashem will bring it about that I find out." A few days later, her daughter, who was visiting a different uncle(her mother's other brother) in Florida, called her to say that her uncle had just come home from shul, saying that his friend told him how nice it was that his niece was getting engaged to his nephew in Israel. And he told him the niece's name. He came home and he told this woman's daughter who that girl is. She then called her mother and related the information. This woman didn't tell anyone she was looking for that information. Hashem sent it to her, all the way from Florida. Every deed we do is appreciated by Hashem, but when we see His appreciation, it gives us even more strength.

Tara VanDerveer has more wins than any other coach in NCAA basketball history. But as she says, motivating and leading teams isn't about barking orders. Communication, she says, “It starts, number one, with listening.”For VanDerveer, leadership isn't about a power dynamic, but a collaboration between her and her team. “I can't do it by myself and they can't do it by themselves. But as a team, we can,” she says. From seeking opinions from her assistant coaches to connecting with players about life outside the gym, VanDerveer recognizes that championships are won through communication. “The relationships that you have with your players, the communication that you have with them, will determine your success as a coach,” she says.In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, VanDerveer and host Matt Abrahams explore more communication insights from on and off the court — being clear and concise, giving praise and positive feedback, and letting go of perfectionism.Episode Reference Links:Stanford Cardinal Profile: Website Ep.102 Create Presence: How to Communicate in a Way Others Can Feel Website / YouTube Ep.35 Leading From The Hot Seat: How To Communicate Under Pressure Website / YouTube Connect:Email Questions & Feedback >>> thinkfast@stanford.eduEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn Page, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInStanford GSB >>> LinkedIn & TwitterChapters:(00:00:00) IntroductionHost Matt Abrahams introduces guest Tara VanDerveer, former Stanford University basketball coach.(00:00:59) Building Trust and OpennessFostering an environment where players feel comfortable being challenged and pushing themselves.(00:01:52) Communicating Under PressureStrategies for speaking clearly and concisely during crucial moments in games.(00:05:24) Motivation and FocusMotivating a team during challenging times and keeping them focused after successes.(00:07:26) The Value of RoutineThe value and impact of routines in practice and performance.(00:09:01) Positive Feedback and PraiseBalancing constructive criticism with positive feedback to foster player growth.(00:10:46) Taking RisksInsights on taking risks in career and coaching strategies.(00:12:56) Dual Role of CoachingThe dual role of a coach in ensuring both athletic and personal growth for players.(00:14:11) Handling Turnover and OnboardingManaging player turnover and integrating new team members.(00:16:39) Managing EmotionsTechniques for staying calm and focused during high-emotion situations.(00:17:55) Handling Mistakes and Staying PositiveMethods for helping players move past mistakes and stay focused.(00:19:35) Equity in SportsAddressing and advocating for equity between women's and men's sports.(00:21:21) Final Three QuestionsTara shares how to accept praise, two communicators she admires, and her recipe for successful communication.(00:26:30) ConclusionSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
