Imogen's album took her on a musical pilgrimage and delved into the depths of her songwriting, with the album unfolding like a chapter in a deeply personal diary. In this episode, we talk about resilience, overcoming adversity, getting through tough times, and Imogen's high school days. Imogen also performs her new song, "The Art of Getting Through."

New PODCAST RELEASE - INTERVIEW with Australian Singer / Songwriter (and now resident of Nashville) IMOGEN CLARK! Rob and Matt had a great fun conversation with the greatly talented Imogen Clark. We had a ton of laughs (which is always a good thing). Besides bringing up Springsteen, Colin Hay, Sheena Easton and Sheryl Crow we talk about her big move to Nashville, the inspiration behind her newest video for THE NOISE, the time she played a mining town of only men, writing and recording with Colin Hay (Men at Work) and much much more! ******** JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IMOGEN CLARK: From an early age, Imogen's life was steeped in music. From just eight years old, she was trained as an opera singer, the foundation for her roof-raising vocal power and range. By the age of twelve, she had transitioned to the guitar and piano and the start of her songwriting journey. Raised on a cocktail of Bruce Springsteen and Violent Femmes, her musical palette expanded with influences from contemporary artists like HAIM, Maggie Rogers, and the indomitable Taylor Swift. Her father, a former punk rocker and now retired high school teacher, also played a pivotal role in shaping her musical inclinations. His influence, combined with her own experiences, gave birth to a unique and timeless sound, blending pop-rock and indie-pop. Imogen's determination is evidenced by her achievements of the last three years, especially her two acclaimed EPs, 2020's "The Making of Me" and the AIR-nominated 2021's "Bastards". After recording “Bastards” over Zoom amidst the COVID lockdowns in Sydney, Imogen was determined to flip the script completely for her album. After writing over a hundred songs, she embarked on a musical pilgrimage, traveling to cities that have inspired her musically - London, Nashville, and Los Angeles. This journey took her to some of the world's most iconic recording spaces including Peter Frampton's Studio Phenix in Nashville, Abbey Road in London, and East West in Los Angeles, where the legendary "Pet Sounds" was recorded. The forthcoming album “The Art of Getting Through” is proudly genre-agnostic, encapsulating Imogen's range as a songwriter and recording artist. The lyrics are her most bracingly personal and vulnerable, the music more powerful and anthemic than ever. From navigating her identity to touching on the shadows of an eating disorder, each of Imogen's songs unfold like a chapter in a deeply personal diary, capturing moments, memories, and confessions from her journey. It's no wonder collaborators from Alex Lahey to Colin Hay to Steve Poltz to members of Gang of Youths, Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello's Imposters, Dawes, My Morning Jacket and more have lined up to collaborate with an artist whose dynamism, relentless creativity and striving to be the most fully evolved version of herself, both in and out of the studio, shows her as a force to be reckoned with, and one who is just getting started. ************ You can find IMOGEN at imgogenclarkmusic.com.au , Facebook and Instagram (@imogenclarkmusic) Be sure to look for her upcoming 3rd studio album "The Art of Getting Through" on May 31st, 2024! ************ KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts. This episode, we're joined once again by wonderful musician, friend, and certified Ben hater Imogen Clark to discuss The Bachelors Australia episodes 6 and 7 - which featured the usual drama about who's receiving flowers, but also new drama about when flowers are being received. Plus a dangle-date conspiracy, another complicated admission (and subsequent expectation) from Wes, and a Pretty Woman date that gets worse the more you think about it. Please enjoy our expert body language analysis, a bold prediction for Luke's final pick, a moment for a scene-stealing background character, and the most expensive (and most worth it) bit in BoH history. Susannah Walker and Imogen Clark are the two (very excellent) women behind Make Space For Girls, and you may remember Mick had a chat with them a couple of years ago when the charity was just nine months old.Two years on and its campaign to make our parks and public spaces more friendly and accommodating for tween and teenaged girls continues apace, so Mick caught up with Susannah to talk about their recently released Parkwatch report, the fact that most parks have more facilities for dog waste than for teenage girls, and why we're still in the situation where 90% of the facilities provided are about 90% used by the male 50% of the population. It's not all doom, gloom and nowhere to go for girls, though: Susannah also has good news. Praise be!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/standardissuespodcast. Hosted on Acast. Spatial planning can only deliver a safe, healthy and sustainable environment for all if it is sensitive to the needs of all, which means taking into account the different roles women and men have in society and the different expectations and requirements they have from the planning system. Nobody could argue with that principle, but what does it mean in practice? What does planning policy look like when viewed through a gender lens, how do we plan on a gender inclusive basis at a city-wide scale and what does that look like on the ground? This episode has been put together by Sam Stafford (@samuel_stafford) with the help of Women in Planning (@womeninplanning) and the Royal Town Planning Institute to mark International Women's Day. It is comprised of three parts that will tackle those questions by way of three separate conversations. In Part 1 you will hear Shelly Rouse (@rouse_shelly) talk to Karen Horwood (@karenhhorwood) and Natalya Palit (@natpalit) about women in planning, woman and planning and gender mainstreaming. In Part 2 you will hear Phoebe Threlfall and Katie Shoosmith (@KFluzza) talk to Holly Bruce (@cllrhollybruce) about Holly's ambition to make Glasgow a Feminist City. And in Part 3 you will hear Vicky Payne (@Victoria_Payne) talk to Imogen Clark, Helen Fadipe (@hfadipe) and Katie Wray (@kluw) about making space for girls. At the end of that segment you can also look forward to Vicky getting on the 50 Shades soapbox. Some accompanying reading. Imogen Clark, the pullbuoy female swimmer of the year for 2022, occupies a bit of an unusual niche in British Swimming as a world class performer often locked out of the major meets by the focus on Olympic events. In this podcast she reveals the frustration that entails, but also how her focus has changed in response, while we also discuss a year that she feels was the best of her career. It was a season that took Imogen to the Commonwealth Games, the European Championships and the Melbourne World Short course championships, giving her the taste for international competition. And it wasn't without success - with medals in Birmingham and Rome and British records both long and short course for the 50m breaststroke. We also talk about her return to Derventio Excel, the club where she first made her name, and how the ISL kept her swimming. --------------------- Review, subscribe, share on Anchor, Apple, Google, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts --------------------- Connect on social: - Twitter @pullbuoy - Instagram @pullbuoyuk - Facebook @pullbuoyuk - YouTube --------------------- Episode Artwork: ISL/Deepbluemedia

Singer songwriter Imogen Clark joins Rae Leigh in a conversation about co-writing, touring, covid lockdowns in Australia and how her one year gap year turned into a 10 year long music lifestyle. ”Imogen Clark may not have tailored her record to this era but her vibrant, bracing songs –kind of like a dip in a cold September sea – might just be one of the things to carry usthrough it.” - Divya Venkataraman, Sydney Morning Herald “A rock gem from Imogen Clark. Her voice is incredible… I just love how raw that one is.” -Karla Ranby, Triple J Imogen Clark is an AIR Award nominated indie artist from Western Sydney. Her musicranges from intimate to arena-ready, rock anthems with the soul of a confessional singer-songwriter. She is currently halfway through her mammoth 100 Shows in 100 Days tour. An artist who regularly performed 75+ shows in a year, Imogen has barely managed 20 over the last two. Even that number is a testament to her determination to do the only thing that for her makes life worth living – coming together with other people to put her heart on her sleeve and exhaust herself physically and emotionally making music that will move people. “I don't know who I am when I can't do this,” she says. “It's not just a job, it's what makes me feel alive. That connection with an audience of strangers, where you don't know somebody but you know they feel how you feel, and with the people on stage bringing these songs to life with you, my life feels empty without it, so it's time to make up for lost time”. The shows have also allowed Imogen to road test new material, including cathartic belter ‘Nonchalant', which she headed into the studio to record between shows after the song became a standout live favourite. It's been over two years since I started my podcast, Turning Readers Into Writers. When I think about when I first started out, and that very first trailer, that very first episode, and how nervous I was about recording everything, how new it all felt. I was so happy when I found the wonderful Krystal Proffitt, who guided me through everything in lovely easy to follow steps. So what have been some of my Podcast episode highlights? My first author interview was with Elisa Menz, a really brave thing to do as a new author. It was her first podcast. She was doing it in her second language and I was so grateful she put her trust in me.A big turning point for me was interviewing Bethany Tucker, who generously shared her techniques when she's editing her clients' work. Rhonda Douglas was another highlight. She'd written a great blog post on her 4 Folder Method, which I loved and find out more, and so she shared with me her 4 Folder Method.Physical Therapist, Dr. Alexa Harrigan, talked to me about being a pain-free writer. She touched on desk ergonomics, general health and well-being, and how to make activity a part of your daily life without going to the gym. An episode I learned a lot from was with author Sylvia Hubbard, who says you don't need to have everything worked out beforehand. Just having a general idea of where your story is going to go is enough to get started writing. You can iron out the wrinkles later. In terms of crafts, one of my favourite episodes was with September C Fawkes, and she talks about how to use a cliffhanger, and to date, it's still one of my most downloaded episodes. In June of last year, I talked to Nadia Coburn, and we talked about healing trauma through narrative. This has been a very popular episode as we've all experienced trauma at some stage in our life. At the end of last year, I chatted with Nikki Vallance, a debut author. She's also a life coach who uses her skills to help mid-lifers who feel stuck. As she says, she wants to inspire ‘closet novelists'. We talked about the benefits of coaching and both agree that even if the focus of the coaching is on the book, it can impact all areas of your life.I recently interviewed Imogen Clark, the multi-million selling author of contemporary women's fiction. Despite her enormous success, she is incredibly down to earth and pragmatic and epitomises for me the ‘career author'.After raising her family, Imogen took time for herself and explored what it was she wanted in this next stage of her life. She'd always loved writing and so invested in herself by taking a degree course. In March 2022 I interviewed Yuktha Asrani, who really epitomises, for me, the opportunities lockdown has afforded us if we've chosen to take them, and she certainly did!Yuktha is a wonderful example of how, if you have a passion and you decide to follow it through, you can do anything. For those of you who have been with me since the beginning, I want to say a big, big thank you. Thank you for being part of this journey. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/emmadhesi)

This week, we're lucky enough to be joined by singer/songwriter Imogen Clark, to discuss what The Bachelor branded as "Heart-Racing Week" - which included a few all-time great moments, but ironically slowed the character development to a crawl. Imogen Clark is an outstanding Australian singer/songwriter and not to mention, a robust businesswoman. Her mark in the entertainment industry is deep and continues to deepen. Imogen has been writing and performing songs since she was fourteen years old, starting out the way most musicians do - in local pubs. Imogen's inspirations are artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Gang of Youths, and Phoebe Bridgers. Imogen has toured across Europe, the US, the UK, and across Australia. She has collaborated with artists such as Alex Lahey, Clare Bowen, Emma Swift, Anita Lester, Colin Hay, Taylor Goldsmith, Jason Boesel, Tom Petty, Pete Thomas. She has supported Shania Twain and has worked with Mark Lizotte (Johnny Deisel) who also produced her 2018 album Collide. A hard-working and passionate artist, don't look away for even a minute. In the episode we discuss everything from our dogs (sorry), the havoc the pandemic has wreaked on the entertainment industry, her family's response when she told them straight out of Year 12 that she was going to pursue music as a career, living in the Blue Mountains, the sincerity of writing music from the perspective of a third person, her identity as an artist, where to draw inspiration from when you can't travel, the struggle of women in maintaining their relevance in the entertainment industr, using your name as your brand (as a result of this conversation I got the guts to use my own name on this podcast) and yeah basically everything, we covered everything. And I might just go and try a soy latte with honey tomorrow. Find Imogen on socials @imogen__clark Enjoy the show, X JB
Hayley Marsten's sharp pen and open heart led to the creation of her stellar debut, ‘Spectacular Heartbreak' in 2019. The album was crowdfunded, nominated for Alt-Country Album of the Year at the Golden Guitars, Country Work of the Year at the Queensland Music Awards in 2020, and was streamed over half a million times in the first year. Hayley leads with her heart and her humour both on and off stage which won her fans on her 2019 album tour and wowed the crowds of Fanny Lumsden, Troy Cassar Daley, and Imogen Clark. We have an amazing conversation around her spectacular break-up songs and experiences, she's a strong wise woman who is sharing her heart in her music and we go deeper into the life of Hayley and where songwriting injected life into her musical world. It's rare to be simultaneously a decade-plus performance veteran and also still under the age of 30, and yet Imogen Clark happily exists within that Venn diagram. This ain't no child-star operation, either - really, this Blue Mountains native is just getting started. Having toured internationally, supported Shania Twain and even navigated a global pandemic to get her unique blend of country, rock and pop out to the world, Clark is a rare firebrand - and if you're not familiar already, make it a priority to rectify that. Imogen Clark's First Annual Holiday Hootenanny takes place at the Factory Theatre on December 9. "Don't Let People Mess With You" Self empowerment isn’t easy. We tend to think of other people and how they’ll receive us so we try to mold our responses and desires to that expectations. But by doing that, we forget about one thing; ourselves. It’s true. You can go a whole lifetime forgetting that what you feel is important. So, the basic punk rock version of empowerment is this. Don’t let people mess with you. And if they do, mess with them right back. Nobody can mess with Imogen Clark. Not anymore. The Australian singer songwriter has felt that over the course of her career she was carrying out an image of what other people expected of her and the fact is, she got sick of it. Imogen starting playing gigs in bars at 13, so it’s understandable that someone so young could get caught up in catering to what other people thought she could be artistically, but by 25 she’d had enough. Nothing like romantic wreckage, stoning self doubt and artistic frustration to make someone state themselves down and take ownership of what happens next. And that’s what Imogen Clark did. Weathering all those storms, taught Imogen something. She could do it. And if she could do it she could do a nothing. and so she did. Her new EP The Making of Me is an exhilarating rebirth of an artist whose taken command of her career and is burning with confidence. Imogen clark is no longer feeling artistic claustrophobia. She’s staring at the open road and she’s pushing the petal to the floor. And it sounds awesome. In this conversation she talks to Alex about taking command of her life, her love of Gang Of Youths and her friendship with Emma Swift. She also talks about her bold new rebirth, gives a little relationship advice and talks about life during lockdown….
