At the start of the 2010s, you'd be hard-pressed to find a college radio station or dorm-room playlist that didn't include a Phantogram hit.Sixteen years after the release of their debut record, band leaders Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, who started Phantogram in a town of just a few thousand people, are touring behind their latest full-length, 2024's Memory of a Day. The tour included a sold-out stop at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium—a different sort of barn than the kind they used to perform in back in Greenwich—where PG's John Bohlinger caught up with Carter and Barthel. We had the pleasure of interviewing Atlas Genius over Zoom video!Australian-based brothers, Atlas Genius are thrilled to release their new album End of the Tunnel. The band has put together a special recipe for the new collection of songs. Album ingredients: Lost love, guilt, passion, a dash of social commentary, existential crises, reckless abandon, and honest self-criticism. May contain traces of lust.2024 also marks the 11-year anniversary of the band's debut album When It Was Now, which features top charting songs including the certified platinum “Trojans” which hit #3 on the US Alternative charts and “If So” which peaked at #8.   About Atlas Genius: Their Father was a self made man. He started as a miner, miles below the Australian earth before becoming a successful engineer. But his dreams fell apart following an incapacitating heart attack and a 2 year battle for his life. While their mother tended to their ailing father, the 3 teenage sons, Keith, Steven & Michael grew up quickly having to provide for the family. Eldest Keith's job at KFC wasn't enough, so the Jeffery brothers started playing gigs to pay the family's bills. Even the youngest, 14 year old drummer Michael, had to balance school work and early mornings with their late night cover band shows in the local Adelaide clubs. After a few years and the healing of their father, the band built a recording studio in their home's garage. Out of this home studio came the band's debut album and certified platinum hit single “Trojans.” Over their career, Atlas Genius has traveled the world supporting Weezer, Blink 182, Incubus, Silversun Pickups, The Neighborhood, Passion Pit, Imagine Dragons, The Kooks, and more. Atlas have performed at some of the most iconic and prestigious festivals including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, Bottlerock, Shaky Knees, and Life is Beautiful and has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, James Corden, Conan O'Brien, David Letterman and Jay Leno. We want to hear from you! fWotD Episode 2656: Worlds (Porter Robinson album) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 12 August 2024 is Worlds (Porter Robinson album).Worlds is the debut studio album by the American electronic music producer Porter Robinson, released on August 12, 2014, by Astralwerks. Initially known for his heavier bass-centric production, Robinson became increasingly dissatisfied with the electronic dance music (EDM) genre, believing it limited his artistic expression. In 2012, Robinson released his first song with a greater emphasis on melody, "Language", and decided thereafter to prioritize aesthetic and emotional qualities in his work. He was inspired by media that evoked nostalgia for his childhood, and wrote music integrating elements taken from anime, films, and sounds from 1990s video games.Robinson's primary inspirations for Worlds were Daft Punk's Discovery (2001) and Kanye West's Graduation (2007). Critics described the work as electropop, noting similarities to the styles of M83 and Passion Pit. In late 2013, a bidding war ensued to determine which label was to release the record. The album was preceded by four singles: "Sea of Voices", "Sad Machine", "Lionhearted", and "Flicker", and promoted with a tour in North America and Europe.Worlds was well-received by most critics, who praised it as innovative and forecasted a promising career for Robinson, though others felt the record lacked coherence or was unexciting. Retrospectively, the album was noted for its impact on the EDM scene. It charted in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Netherlands. Following Worlds's positive reception, Robinson felt pressured to write an appropriate follow-up work. As a result, he experienced a period of writer's block and depression, leading to the seven-year gap until his next studio album, Nurture (2021).This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:52 UTC on Monday, 12 August 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Worlds (Porter Robinson album) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Niamh.

He leads the SPSCC Choirs and teaches courses in music theory, popular music, and music appreciation.Dr. Guarente previously served on the faculty at Lakeland University in Wisconsin and the College of Central Florida. In 2020, he wrote the music and lyrics for SPSCC's Alma Mater, "The Waves of South Puget Sound." John has prepared and conducted choirs for groundbreaking recording artists such as Passion Pit and Juanes. In working with adult and collegiate choirs, Dr. Guarente has conducted numerous major works including Handel's Judas Maccabaeus, Saint-Saëns's Oratorio de Noël, Mozart's "Coronation" Mass, Faure's Requiem, and Vivaldi's Gloria. As a baritone soloist, his singing engagements have included such choral-orchestral literature as Orff's Carmina Burana, Handel's Messiah, Dvorak's Te Deum, and Szymanowski's Stabat Mater.John received his doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Miami, and holds a master of music in choral conducting and a bachelor of arts degree in music from Rutgers University. Dallin Applebaum is an alternative songwriter with a knack for melodic piano-driven songs with a dark-humored spirit. Originally based in New York City, she moved to Nashville in early 2022. Dallin has always been drawn to music- she began playing classical piano at a young age and started singing and writing songs as a teenager.  After attending college in New York, Dallin began touring with major pop artists among the likes of Ryan Star & Rachel Platten, in addition to working with recording artists such as Passion Pit, Phil Phillips, Matchbox 20 and many more. Among this success, she also won runner up for Best Folk Song in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2009. . In 2013, Dallin started an electronic rock band called SKYES, who made their way through the Brooklyn indie music scene before she chose to move into writing music on her own. During this time Dallin also wrote and produced pop songs under the alias Alise Indall. Many of Indall's songs can be heard on TV and film, and “I'm That Girl” was featured in the promotion for the  2018 USA Women's Olympic teams.   In the process of building her new album, Grey Matters, Dallin began a songwriting club in New York as a place to get together with other songwriters and share ideas. It was through the club that she was able to create a space where she could work through and finish writing all of the songs for her album.  Grey Matters, due out in January 2023, explores extremes as a means to understanding and appreciating what's between them. Dallin produced and arranged most of the record herself with the help of her husband & a few extremely talented friends.  www.dallinapplebaum.com

Scott Adamson is a touring FOH audio engineer and the founder of The Production Academy, an online school dedicated to helping musicians and sound engineers get the technical knowledge they need to have successful shows. A California native who has been working in the music industry since the late 1990's, Scott moved to Iowa with his family in his early teens, and it was there that he started playing the drums. His musical ambitions led him to play in several bands and he slowly developed an interest in the live sound aspect of the shows as well. He was part-owner of Semaphore Recording studios in Chicago during the 2000s, but the excitement of travel and working in live music production ultimately drew him to focus on touring as a full-time career. During the past 20 years, he's toured with artists like Haim, Passion Pit, St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney, Matt and Kim, Ingrid Michaelson, and The Hold Steady, among many more. Realizing that there was a lack of quality education in the live music industry, and discovering a love for sharing his knowledge with others, Scott gathered his resources and launched www.theproductionacademy.com. In just a few short years he's reached an international audience, and has garnered the support of many of the industry's top engineers. We had the pleasure of interviewing slenderbodies over Zoom video! Having spent the past months building buzz with a string of stellar single releases, LA based indie-pop duo slenderbodies today reveal their stand out new project are we?, a sprawling body of work showcasing the razor sharp musicianship and sky reaching vocals that have seen the duo rack up millions of streams and widescale global press acclaim. The project arrives with a striking video for new single mirror, on which the band state: "mirror is a song about coveting someone, falling in love with them and pursuing friendship even though you want nothing more than to tell them everything you feel about them. this song is painted over the backdrop of them moving away, and how at the last moment everything fades away except the feelings toward them. we wanted to make a song for those who find the time and space to share how they feel, as well as those who carry the feelings with them and aren't able to express them to the person they love."More on slenderbodies…. slenderbodies first emerged in 2016 with sotto voce, a mesmerizing, eight-track EP that took its name from an Italian phrase meaning to speak softly but with emphasis. Recorded remotely with guitarist Benji Cormack living in Santa Cruz and singer/guitarist Max Vehuni residing in Los Angeles (the two had met at college a few years earlier), the collection quickly caught fire on Spotify, where it racked up millions of streams without any label or radio support. The next year, the pair returned with a second EP, ‘fabulist,' which launched their following into the stratosphere as lead single anemone garnered more than 30 million plays across platforms. Though the duo had never planned on performing live, they soon found themselves onstage in front of massive crowds around the world, sharing bills with the likes of Mura Masa, Passion Pit, PVRIS, and Milky Chance. In 2018 and 2019, Vehuni and Cormack released two more EPs (fabulist: extended and soraya, respectively) earning ecstatic reviews on both sides of the pond and landing coveted spots at Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza. The bands 2019 album, komorebi, gave us an intoxicating blend of textures and genres and garnered over 50 Million streams. Applauded by the likes of Clash, Consequence of Sound, Wonderland, Highsnobiety, Entertainment Weekly, Flaunt & more, the album showed the band's remarkable rise from a self-released bedroom project to a touring and streaming powerhouse. We want to hear from you! This week, it’s all about Katya.Quarantine continues on here at rancho trevorio, I’m still making the cello do weird things and taking the random production call. Katya's right on stage with her.As a writer Katya has written jingles for JC Penny and collaborated with acclaimed writers such as Itaal Shur and Stuart Matthewman from Sade.About 6 years ago she formed a musical group with Chris Hierro named Break Out The Crazy with the intention of being a production/songwriter team.
