Myf's made her road trip north and has all the news from life on the road with Vyv. There's heaps to catch up on too, as Myf and Zan reunite to reflect on the Matildas wins and how they celebrated. There's a lot of talk of legacy too, and the changes being made in women's sport overall. One thing that hasn't changed is inappropriate behaviour at the workplace: Spanish Football Federation boss, we're looking at you. Meanwhile in the AFL, a 4 Corners story on gay players within the league has us thinking about the legacy of that taboo, and why it still exists. Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have announced their divorce, and it's hot girl summer on overload (with the Britney army protecting their queen). And we've warmed to And Just Like That so much we're talking about S03 and our hope for spin offs. In the 1980s and 1990s, Flanders achieved acclaim in his native Australian market; first as a staff songwriter with Warner/Chappell Music, then as a producer for Alternative and Pop acts in Australia. He received ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) recognition for his work with the Australian pop artist Chaise, producing a string of hit singles album that spawned a number one hit song for her, Only Be Me. During this period, he also held a position at Arctic BMG Australia.  Flanders relocated to Nashville in April 2007, opening Pacific International Music and has since completed 50 plus projects in the space of 5 years, producing 19 Hot 30 Country singles, 4 of which made number 1. Flanders' trademark as a producer has been his experimental and hook heavy approach to creating organic-sounding records. He is known for his involvement in a project from conception to finished product. 3 records with artists' Coles Whalen, Jill King and Mitzi Dawn cemented his status in the Americana and Alt Country scene. In 2010, American Idol Siobhan Magnus began a series of writing and recording sessions under the direction of Flanders and his team, resulting in her first album Moonbaby, which was released in 2012. Flanders then finished writing and producing a record for multi-platinum pop star Nikki Webster to be released 2014. Flanders has multiple Film and Television credits, most recently scoring scenes for the indie thriller Magdalena, directed by Sevier Crespo.  He also was composer on Daniel Baldwin film “WISDOM” (To Know The Difference) which won Manhattan/San Antonio/Long Beach/Burbank Film Festival's.  Flanders took out Best Song for the ”WISDOM” title track for film co-written with Siobhan Magnus (American Idol) at Manhattan & Long Beach festivals. Flanders also took home the People Choice Award at the San Antonio Film Festival.  Currently working on scoring 2 upcoming films, “Good Times At Blue-Jay” and “A Teachers Touch”. Flanders has also worked with Heidi NewField, Robyn Lajoya Charles (Ray Charles Daughter), Doug Seegers/Buddy Miller/Jim Lauderdale, Tayla Lynn, Ky-Mani Marley, Natalie Howard, Erin Drew, Jeremy Parsons, Carl Wockner, Shelly Evans, Michael Bryers, Kelly Black, Calvin Lee & Trick Pony, Nellie Donovan, Col Finley, Jon Raven, Doug Seegers, GalFriday, Dozzi, Trevor Finlay and Robert Randolph. Following the fabulous introduction into 2000s Aussie pop divas Vanessa Amorosi and Nikki Webster's careers, this second part of our special celebrates ARIA Award-winning duo Sister2Sister, the talented singer-songwriter Leah Haywood, and vocal powerhouse Joanne.  Sister2Sister, made up of sisters Christine and Sharon Muscat, made a splash in Australia and the UK with their hits 'Sister' and 'What's A Girl To Do' in the early 2000s. They weren't just a pair of incredible vocalists but also super engaging live performers who can slay a Y2K popstar choreography! The sisters' success saw them score an ARIA Award and support Britney Spears and 5ive on tour outside Australia, and feature on the Bring It On soundtrack.  In the past decade or so, Aussie hit songwriter and producer Leah Haywood has been working behind the scenes in LA on some of our fave bops via Selena Gomez, BLACKPINK, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato and more but we're taking it all the way back to her 2000s popstar debut "Leah", which spawned inescapable bops like 'We Think It's Love', 'Takin' Back What's Mine' and 'Summer of Love'. With Leah now thankfully back in the spotlight as an artist after two decades, releasing top-tier material under the pseudonym Haywood, it feels right to go back to her 2000s efforts and celebrate her journey.  The final artist on our two-part 2000s Aussie Pop special is Joanne, a real vocal powerhouse and long-lost Young Diva member, in our humble opinion. Big soul diva vocals with camp, Y2K disco-pop production and dance bangers - everything about Joanne's discography is a maximalist 'girls night out' experience packed with sass and handbags-on-the-floor moments, from the signature late 90s banger 'Jackie' through to 'So Damn Fine', 'I Don't Know' and 'Busted'.  Follow Right Back At Ya! https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/ https://twitter.com/rightbackpod https://www.facebook.com/rightbackpod Check out our Spotify playlists https://open.spotify.com/user/1c3ks5jdh2x4j7jdg1o0aglwg Follow Joel https://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/ https://twitter.com/DR_JoelB Follow David https://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/ https://twitter.com/lovelimmy Email us rightbackpod@gmail.com

Your favourite pop explorers Joel and David are heading Down Under for this special two-part episode celebrating some unforgettable Australian pop icons from the late 90s and early 2000s.  This episode is all about the vocal powerhouse diva Vanessa Amorossi and teen-pop sensation Nikki Webster. Both were absolutely essential to Australian popular culture of the decade and their vibrant pop bops are still adored by millions of millennials to this very day.  Best known for her international dance hit 'Absolutely Everybody', Vanessa Amorosi is unquestionably one of Australia's greatest vocalists of her generation. Joel and David get into her multi platinum-selling debut album "The Power", which also includes hits like 'Shine', 'The Power' and 'Every Time I Close My Eyes'. They also look into Vanessa's more European-facing highlights like 'One Thing Leads to Another' and the French "Ab Fab" theme 'Champagne, Champagne', before toasting to her monumental comeback in 2008 with 'Perfect' and 2009's banger 'This Is Who I Am'.  By his own admission, Nikki Webster has the pop career Joel has always wanted. Straight after her unforgettable role in the 2000 Sydney Olympics Opening and Closing ceremonies, 13-year old Nikki signed a major label deal and turned her newfound profile into a successful pop career that also spawned a clothing line and her own businesses. The savvy dancer and musical theatre star will forever be immortalised for her breakthrough smash 'Strawberry Kisses' but Joel and David are not stopping there. Cue gems like 'Depend on Me', 'The Best Days', 'Something More Beautiful' and the Delta Goodrem-penned 'Let's Dance'! If you're not familiar with these Aussie ladies of pop, we hope you enjoy this introduction and if you do, we hope this nostalgic trip brings you joy.  Stay tuned for Part 2 dropping in a few days, where we get into Sister 2 Sister, Leah Haywood and Joanne! It's the quadrennial event that unites the world in a kaleidoscope of excitement, triumph, and premium advertising opportunities. Here in Australia, we love a gold medal more than anything else (especially one we haven't budgeted for). And we'll never forget that the Sydney 2000 Games were universally declared the "best ever". It was a simpler time: the economy was booming, political leadership was stable, there were fewer Royal Commissions, Roy and HG were on Free-to-Air TV, and there were certainly no defamation lawsuits being levelled by Victoria Cross recipients. But today, the feats of Duncan Armstrong, Cathy Freeman, the Oarsome Foursome, Nikki Webster and Rod McGeoch are a distant memory, with the unconditional adoration for our plucky athletes and administrators making way for nitpickers hell-bent on calculating the precise taxpayer cost for each gold medal. So, is this glorified amateur athletics carnival still relevant in 2021? Or has COVID dulled our enthusiasm for this great global symbol of hope and peace? Are we too wrapped up in our provincial footy codes to consider the soft power diplomacy impact of winning a decathlon bronze? And hang on, has Brisbane seriously lobbed a bid for 2032?Featuring guest appearance by comedian and social commentator Sean Woodland. Audio production from Tim ‘T-Dog' Eldridge. Born in Darwin, Meryl began ballet classes at a young age before heading to The Australian Ballet School. Shortly after being accepted into the company, Meryl took a leave of absence to work as a Principal dancer with the infamous Pina Bausch in Germany. Eventually craving to be artistically challenged even more, Meryl then spent time between Germany and Australia appearing in television series for ABC television before finally returning to Australia to continue her love for choreographing as the Director of the Meryl Tankard Company in Canberra before moving onto the Director of Australian Dance Theatre in Adelaide. Meryl's work is nothing short of varied and colourful; creating Bolero for the Lyon Opera Ballet, commissioned by Tiffany & Co to produce a piece for New York's Museum of National History, she was also responsible for Nikki Webster's debut and the entire Deep Sea Dreaming piece in the Sydney Olympic Games opening ceremony, a piece titled Ocean Dance to welcome the Dalai Lama to Australia, the choreography for Broadway's Tarzan The Musical and finally but not even close to covering it all worked with Sydney Dance Company, The Australian Ballet, Sydney Opera House and Netherlands Dance Theatre. Honestly, what you just heard only scrapes the surface of Meryl Tankard's credits. I haven't even mentioned achievements like a Helpmann Award in 2000 or Officer of the Order of Australia in 2019. I've just chosen a handful to share with you as otherwise this would be a very long episode! I think todays story is a beautiful example of following your gut and that 'chance encounters' often take time and patience... and aren't really 'chance' at all! It was obviously wonderful sitting down for a conversation with Meryl Tankard however it was an honour simply meeting her. Much respect.
