Though AC/DC are one of the most revered and successful bands in the history of rock n roll, in 1979 they hadn't cracked the Top 100 in the US. The killer riffs laid down by Malcolm Young had gained them a strong following in Europe and their native Australia but they had yet to breach the great big U-S-of-A. So in 1979 they brought in a new producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange to give them an edge. And though they were all skeptical after giving Eddie Kramer a shot, once Mutt showed them he knew how to sing, how to get the most out of Angus's guitar and how to put together songs, they were all on board. However, though this would be their big breakthrough in America with Highway To Hell reaching the Top 20, the celebration wouldn't last as lead singer and primary antagonist Bon Scott would soon die while living that rock n roll life. But before he left he gave us some of his patented sexual innuendo (Walk All Over You, Love Hungry Man, Touch Too Much) and his description of his lifestyle in the title track. Cliff Williams had settled in on the bass after Powerage and the live album If You Want Blood You Got It and Angus Young came of age with the help of Mutt Lange in the studio. The result is some of their greatest riffs (Highway To Hell, If You Want Blood (You've Got It), fan favorites (Girls Got Rhythm, Shot Down In Flames) and controversy (Nightprowler). It marked the end of an era with Bon Scott but the start of working with Mutt Lange who would help their next album become the 2nd biggest selling album of all time. Highway to Hell (Autopista al infierno), es el sexto álbum de estudio de la banda de hard rock australiana AC/DC que salió a la venta en 1979. También es el quinto álbum de estudio internacional de la banda y todas sus canciones fueron escritas por Angus Young, Malcolm Young, y Bon Scott, entre las que se destacan "Highway to Hell", "Touch Too Much", "Walk All Over You", "Shot Down in Flames", "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" y el oscuro blues "Night Prowler". Se consideró el álbum más popular de la banda hasta el momento, y ayudó a incrementar la popularidad de ésta considerablemente, posicionándola para el éxito de su álbum Back In Black el año siguiente. Fue el último álbum grabado con el vocalista Bon Scott antes de que este muriese en febrero de 1980. Highway To Hell fue el primer álbum de AC/DC que no fue producido por Harry Vanda y George Young. In late July of 1979, AC/DC released their 6th studio album and would prove to be the last with Bon Scott. The record is the first to be produced by Mutt Lange, who put the band through their paces with 15 hour a day studio sessions over the course of two months. Árið 1978 var AC/DC búin að gefa út 5 stórar plötur og hljómsveitin búin að túra um Ástralíu og Evrópu aftur og aftur. 1977 fór sveitin í fyrsta sinn til Ameríku og gekk ágætlega þrátt fyrir að hafa ekki fengið neina spilun í útvarpi og platan sem kom 1976; Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap kom ekki einu sinni út í Ameríku. Plötufyrtækið Atlantic hafnaði henni, vildi ekki gefa hana út í Ameríku. Og þegar kom að því að taka upp næstu plötu krafðist plötufyrirtækið þess að hljómsveitin myndi vinna með nýjum upptökustjóra sem gæti hjalpað sveitinni að gera útvarpsvænni músík. Plötufyrirtækið Atlantic vildi koma tónlist AC/DC í útvarpið. Hljómsveitin var langt í frá hrifin af þessari hugmynd vegna þess að allar plötur AC/DC til þessa höfðu þeir strákarnir gert með George Young, eldri bróður þeirra gítraleikaranna í bandinu, Angusar og Malcolms Young, og félaga hans Harry Vanda. Plata þáttarins sem við heyrum amk. þrjú lög af er Highway to Hell, sjötta breiðskífa AC/DC og ein af þeirra bestu. Gestur þáttarins að þessu sinni er enginn, en vinur þáttarins sendir pistil og lag og óskalagasíminn opnar kl. 20.00 - 5687123. Highway to Hell er sjötta breiðskífa AC/DC, kom út 27. Júlí 1979 og er síðasta plata hljómsveitarinnar sem söngvarinn Bon Scott syngur á, en hann lést 19. febrúar 1980 aðeins 33 ára gamall. Hann lést úr afengiseitrun í bíl vinar síns í London. Árið 1978 var AC/DC búin að gefa út 5 stórar plötur og hljómsveitin búin að túra um Ástralíu og Evrópu aftur og aftur. 1977 fór sveitin í fyrsta sinn til Ameríku og gekk ágætlega þrátt fyrir að hafa ekki fengið neina spilun í útvarpi og platan sem kom 1976; Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap kom ekki einu sinni út í Ameríku. Plötufyrtækið Atlantic hafnaði henni, vildi ekki gefa hana út í Ameríku. Og þegar kom að því að taka upp næstu plötu krafðist plötufyrirtækið þess að hljómsveitin myndi vinna með nýjum upptökustjóra sem gæti hjalpað sveitinni að gera útvarpsvænni músík. Plötufyrirtækið Atlantic vildi koma tónlist AC/DC í útvarpið. Hljómsveitin var langt í frá hrifin af þessari hugmynd vegna þess að allar plötur AC/DC til þessa höfðu þeir strákarnir gert með George Young, eldri bróður þeirra gítraleikaranna í bandinu, Angusar og Malcolms Young, og félaga hans Harry Vanda. Þeir tveir áttu stóran þátt í sándi hljómsveitarinnar og þeim bræðrum sérstaklega fannst þeir vera að svíkja stóra bróður sinn og Harry Vanda með því að leita annað eftir upptökustjóra auk þess sem þeir voru meira en sáttir við sándið á plötunum sínum og þeir litu eiginlega á George eins og sjötta meðlim sveitarinnar. Atlantic vildi að Eddie Kramer stjórnaði upptökum á plötunni en hann hafði verið upptökumaður með Jimi Hendrix á sínum tíma og líka tekið upp með Led Zeppelin og Kiss. Kramer hitti bandið í hljóðveri í Miami í Florida en það kom fljótt í ljós að það samstarf myndi ekki ganga ? þeim í hljómsveitinni leist ekkert á hann og fannst hann tala niður til þeirra, en þeir voru samt eitthvað að reyna að taka upp með honum í nokkrar vikur áður en þeir létu hann fjúka.
