Jenn Champion is out with a new album. It's called 'The Last Night of Sadness.' It's so sad that a friend had told her to put an existential dread warning on the album after hearing the demos. The album has Champion writing about her own struggles with depression, addiction and losing loved ones to drugs and alcohol. In conversation with Emily Fox, Champion breaks down some songs on the album, shares her story of going to rehab and getting sober, and reflects on her move from Seattle to LA. Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/sound/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jenn Champion is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. She is a founding member of the legendary gloomers Carris's Wierd, recorded 4 records under the moniker "S" and now releases material and performs as Jenn Champion. Her newest self produced release, The Last Night of Sadness (out Oct. 13 via Gay Forever) is a rich and confident journey, tinged with heavy synth/pop riffs and hip hop nods, all coated in with a sheen of real life darkness and humor. In this episode, Jenn's shares her life and musical experience "pre-Carrisas Wierd" and how the band's relevance periodically bumbles into her orbit. Jenn and Joe discuss her view on success vs. fame and how the new record went from "small" demos to a much larger pop production. Jenn tells us why the new release feels more like a realized piece of art, how horror soundtracks had an influence on the production and we hear a few tunes. Who Is She? - “Thursday,” a 2023 single from Father/Daughter Records Seattle supergroup Who Is She? — Robin Edwards (aka Lisa Prank), Bree Mckenna (Tacocat), and Julia Shapiro (Chastity Belt) — have become even more super with the addition of Tacocat's Emily Nokes. Their sophomore full-length, Goddess Energy, will be out August 25th via Father/Daughter Records, and was produced by Jenn Champion.  With today's Song of the Day, the quartet add themselves to the list of bands who've written songs about days of the week. “We are big fans of day of the week songs like ‘Manic Monday' and ‘Friday I'm in Love,' and we realized there weren't enough songs about Thursday,” the band shared in a press release. “So we decided to write one!”  Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

sent $$$ this week to Sustainable Economies Law Center’s Coopalooza .theselc.org“Our vision is to redistribute wealth and power and dismantle the oppressive dominant economic system by creating more worker controlled enterprises.Hierarchies keep power and assets in the hands of a privileged few and proliferate organizational and societal injustices, inequities, and disempowered workers. Concentrated power is the bane of democracy. Hierarchies fail to use the creativity and wisdom of workers close to the problems, to deliver fair and equitable solutions and create right relationships. The solution is to democratize every workplace for every worker. Democratic workplaces build community well-being and transform local economies by putting power over decisions and assets into the hands of workers.Sustainable Economies Law Center’s Labor team provides education, advocacy, research, and legal advice to workers democratizing the places where they work. All month, we’re inviting our friends, neighbors, community members, and partners to support our grassroots fundraising campaign. Our goal is to raise $20,000 by the end of September to support our work democratizing workplaces everywhere. All month long we’ll be sharing stories, resources, and new ideas from the members of our Labor team. Inhaler han estrenado un nuevo single extraído de su inminente disco debut It Won't Always Be Like This.
