Amy Schwartz, Chief People Officer at Wiz, joined us on The Modern People Leader. We talked about why HR alone can't create a high-performance culture, why relationships and influence matter more than HR systems, and why "picking up the trash" - a leadership philosophy she picked up working in casinos - has stuck with her ever since.---- Sponsor Links:
"I think a lot of these high performers mistake endurance for strength. And they believe that if they just keep on going, I hear this all the time, "I just got to keep going. " There's restructuring, reorganization, and they just say, "I just need to keep pushing through." And that is endurance, but that's not strength."Burnout isn't always caused by too much work.Sometimes it's caused by becoming someone you were never meant to be.On this season of Personalization Outbreak Podcast, Glenn Llopis shares a thought - conviction isn't a given, it's earned. Earning Conviction kicks off with Dr. Suzan Song—psychiatrist, researcher, and author of Why We Suffer and How We Heal. Dr. Song joins Glenn Llopis to explain:
Most advice about focus sounds simple: give them breaks, reduce distractions, use a timer, etc. But for many kids with ADHD, the real struggle is not "focus" as one big thing. It is the tiny moments inside focus: starting, staying with it, transitioning, managing frustration, and not shutting down halfway through. In this episode of The Soaring Child Podcast, Dana Kay sits down with Dr. Norrine Russell, founder of Russell Coaching for Students and creator of Connected Coaching, to talk about the practical micro-skills behind focus. Dr. Russell explains why telling a child to "just focus" often backfires, and what parents can do instead to support executive functioning in a way that actually helps. Parents will learn how to shrink the starting point, reduce cognitive load, use presence without hovering, support emotional regulation with empathy, and create simple systems like whiteboards and second screens. This conversation is full of practical, doable strategies for helping kids move from stuck and overwhelmed to supported and capable. LINKS MENTIONED IN THE SHOW Russell Coaching: https://russellcoaching.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/russellcoachingllc/ ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety, Breaking Out of the Box podcast Asking the Right Questions Before, During, and After Your Child's ADHD Diagnosis KEY AKEAWAYS [00:00] Most focus advice is too general and misses the specific moments where ADHD kids get stuck. [01:00] Focus is made up of smaller skills, and when one small skill is missing, the whole process can fall apart. [03:07] Dr. Russell explains the executive functioning skills behind focus, including starting, transitioning, sustained attention, impulse control, and emotional regulation. [06:14] Parents can help children begin by shrinking the starting point into one tiny, doable action. [07:59] Support should change with age, moving from direct guidance in younger years to internalized skills in older children. [09:30] Hovering increases stress and does not build self-regulation. [09:59] Parents can support focus by being visible but silent, then gradually moving farther away as the child matures. [12:59] Empathy is often the most helpful tool when a child becomes frustrated or overwhelmed. [16:11] Asking whether a child wants to be heard or helped can prevent over-helping and build problem-solving skills. [17:28] Reducing cognitive load is key, and a large whiteboard can help kids get thoughts, assignments, and goals out of their heads. [20:16] A second screen can reduce working memory demands for students using a laptop. [21:06] Sometimes the missing piece is not another strategy, but more time, support, acceptance, and brain maturation. [23:24] Texting can be a helpful way to communicate with children and teens in a way that gives them space to process and respond. MEMORABLE MOMENTS "Your child isn't struggling with focus sort of in general, they're struggling with very specific moments." "Focus isn't just one skill. It's a series of really small skills stacked together." "The least helpful thing that a parent can do is say something like, just focus, just get started." "Attention is like a muscle." "Shrink the starting point. Shrink the starting point." "Hovering is not helpful. Hovering is not helpful." "So you want to be visible, but silent." "Our number one tool really when our kids are frustrated is empathy." "Right, heard, helped, or hugged." "You can't rush development. You can't rush brain maturation." DANA KAY RESOURCES

Some actors play powerful men. Others understand what power actually costs. On this episode of Still Here Hollywood, Steve Kmetko sits down with legendary actor Eric Braeden, the man behind Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless, a role he's defined for more than four decades. But this conversation goes far beyond daytime television. From growing up in post-war Germany, to arriving in America and confronting its contradictions, to working with icons like Marlon Brando and James Cameron, Eric shares a deeply personal and unfiltered look at the life experiences that shaped both the man and the character. He opens up about the brutal demands of soap operas, the psychology behind Victor Newman, the reality of Hollywood, and why acting, at its core, is about truth, discipline, and survival. This is a powerful, honest conversation about legacy, resilience, and what it really means to endure in this business. THIS IS STILL HERE HOLLYWOOD, I'M STEVE KMETKO. Send us a textWelcome back to Ending Physician Overwhelm! As we head into the last week of August 2025 and prepare for back-to-school season, it's time to think about something we do constantly as physicians: learning. The Evolution of Medical LearningYou've been a professional learner your entire career. Medical school, residency, fellowship, boards, CME requirements - you've mastered the art of absorbing information and passing tests. But here's the question that might change everything: Who are you actually learning from?If you're like most of us who trained in the early 2000s, your medical education came primarily from older white men reading the same traditional journals and following conventional pathways. While this wasn't inherently wrong, it created a narrow lens that may no longer serve you - or your patients.Breaking Out of Traditional Learning BoxesAs medicine evolves, so should your sources of knowledge. Whether you're exploring:Obesity medicine (where traditional training left massive gaps)Menopause care (practically non-existent in most curricula thanks to the WHI study fallout)Lifestyle medicine approachesNew practice models that prioritize patient connectionYou need voices that reflect the reality of modern healthcare delivery, not just academic theory. The Current Medical Learning LandscapeHere's what's happening right now that affects how you learn:Traditional resources are under threat: With political forces dismantling institutions like ACIP and creating uncertainty around CDC guidance, you're losing historically reliable sources of information.AI is changing everything: Your residents and students are using AI tools that you may not fully understand, yet you're expected to guide them safely through this new landscape.Diversity of voices matters: The patients you serve come from all backgrounds - shouldn't your teachers reflect that diversity too?Finding Your New Learning PathAsk yourself these critical questions:Who is doing the work the way you want to do it?Are you open to being challenged and learning new approaches? Can you unlearn outdated information that's no longer serving your patients? How will you vet new sources of information in an era of compromised traditional resources?Practical Steps for Better LearningSeek out practitioners who:Are actively treating patients (not just publishing papers)Offer practical, real-world applicationsDiscuss the full picture including costs, side effects, and patient experienceChallenge traditional approaches with evidence-based alternativesConsider learning formats beyond traditional CME:Podcasts from practicing physiciansCourses from specialists doing the workMentorship from independent practitionersBooks and resources from diverse voices in medicineThe Power Support the showTo learn more about my coaching practice and group offerings, head over to www.healthierforgood.com. Breaking Out of the Herd Are you ready to step out of the herd and be you? In this five-minute quickie, I'm diving into the power of embracing your uniqueness. We all conform at times, but what if living your true self — with kindness, courage, and selfless service — is exactly what the world needs? Inspired by David Goggins' words, this episode is about breaking free from the mould, shaking off imposter syndrome, and showing up as the uncommon person you really are. Because when you do, you don't just change yourself… you inspire others to do the same.
Making the jump from hospital employment to opening your own practice? We've been there, and we know it's terrifying. When we first started talking about leaving our stable salaried hospital jobs to open a ketamine clinic back in 2018, everyone thought we were crazy. And honestly? Some days we wondered if they were right. In this episode, we're sharing the real story behind Reset Ketamine and how Ketamine StartUp came to be. This isn't the polished version you see on LinkedIn - we're talking about the sleepless nights, the family members who didn't understand, the financial fears, and all the messy details that actually go into building something from scratch. We'll walk you through our complete journey: why we left secure hospital positions, how we navigated the skepticism around ketamine therapy when it was still "experimental," the mistakes we made (there were many), and the strategic decisions that actually moved the needle. If you're feeling stuck in traditional employment, curious about what it really takes to open a ketamine practice, or just wondering if entrepreneurship in healthcare is actually possible, this one's for you.Fair warning: we're not holding anything back! What You'll Learn in This Episode:・The Breaking Point: Sam's realization that he was "climbing a ladder against the wrong building" when offered a medical director promotion・The Five Types of Wealth: Why financial wealth alone wasn't enough to justify staying in traditional hospital employment・Social Pressure Paradox: Why colleagues asking "When will you open?" created both motivation and resistance・The Lean Launch Strategy: Starting with only four treatments while maintaining sustainability through minimal overhead・Strategic Risk Management: How they maintained safety nets while taking calculated entrepreneurial risks

Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech TrainingIn this episode, Matt Fanslow reflects on the recent passings of two cultural icons—Ozzy Osbourne and Hulk Hogan—and draws parallels between their careers and the automotive aftermarket industry. Both figures revolutionized their respective fields (music and professional wrestling) through innovation, perseverance, and an unparalleled connection with their audiences. Matt explores what we can learn from their legacies, including the importance of passion, reinvention, and recognizing opportunities outside our comfort zones.Key Discussion Points1. Ozzy Osbourne: The Accidental Pioneer of Heavy MetalOzzy's final performance at the Power Trip festival, where he performed in immense pain, skipping pain meds to stay present. How Black Sabbath (with guitarist Tony Iommi) accidentally created metal by downtuning guitars after a workplace injury. The importance of appreciating contributions even if you're not a die-hard fan.The value of knowing how you've impacted others (like Ozzy hearing tributes before his passing).2. Hulk Hogan: The Man Who Made Wrestling MainstreamHogan's physical sacrifices (spinal damage from his signature leg drop) and how wrestling is a work but not fake. His ability to connect with audiences in ways no wrestler had before—comparable to Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. How Hogan's heel turn (becoming a villain with the NWO) revitalized wrestling during a slump. The role of timing, charisma, and reinvention in long-term success.3. Lessons for the Automotive AftermarketPassion & Perseverance: Like Ozzy and Hogan, success in the aftermarket requires dedication and pushing through challenges.Reinvention: Hogan's shift from hero to villain kept him relevant—how can shops adapt to stay ahead?Breaking Out of Comfort Zones: Both Ozzy and Hogan expanded beyond their core careers (reality TV, movies). How can shops engage in community work, sponsorships, or other visibility-boosting activities?Continuous Improvement: Getting 1% better every day compounds into major growth over time.4. Personal Reflections & Industry ParallelsMatt's admiration for educators like Paul Danner, who revolutionized training accessibility. The importance of finding the right shop culture for growth (just as Hogan thrived under Vince McMahon's WWE expansion). Why awareness of opportunities—both inside and outside the industry—is crucial.Notable Quotes"Ozzy and Hogan didn't just succeed in their fields—they redefined them. That's the kind of impact we should strive for in the aftermarket.""Wrestling isn't fake; it's a performance with real consequences. Same goes for our work—every repair matters.""If you improve by just 0.33% every day, you'll be 100% better in a year. Small steps lead to big changes."While Ozzy and Hogan came from entirely different worlds, their stories remind us that innovation, adaptability, and connection are universal keys to success. In this episode of the Mining Minds Podcast, we sit down with Trampus Cook, Regional Director for RAM Enterprise Inc., whose journey through the mining world is as rich and layered as the ore bodies he's helped uncover. A fourth-generation miner and cowboy at heart, Trampus takes us through his early days jacklegging in narrow veins of California gold mines, running heavy equipment under Lake Erie, and eventually stepping into leadership with RAM. From growing up between the ropes of cowboy life and the rails of underground shafts, to being a single father raising four young kids while chasing production, Trampus shares raw and emotional insights that go far beyond muck and machines. He opens up about defining moments in fatherhood, building trust and culture in the mining community, and how being told “you're not alone” by a five-year-old became a driving force in his life. Whether you're a miner, a parent, or someone navigating life's challenges, Trampus's story is a powerful reminder of the strength found in grit, purpose, and personal growth. What if the most ancient hate in the world is making a stunning comeback—and most people don't even realize it?In this eye-opening episode of Thrive LouD, Lou Diamond sits down with multi-talented performer, activist, and host of the "Being Jewish" podcast, Jonah Platt. Together, they pull back the curtain on the recent explosion of antisemitism, revealing why it's not a new phenomenon or a fleeting internet trend, but part of a centuries-old playbook that has found new fuel in today's social media-driven world.Key Highlights:Jonah's Personal & Professional Journey: Jonah shares his evolution from a Broadway performer and producer to one of the most recognized Jewish voices online, candidly discussing how personal experiences, world events, and even being diagnosed with ADHD shaped his path.October 7 and Its Aftermath: Lou and Jonah dissect how the tragedy in Israel became a catalyst for a global surge in antisemitism, and what makes this wave of hate so coordinated, widespread, and insidious.Left vs. Right—Understanding Modern Antisemitism: The episode explores why anti-Jewish sentiment shows up differently on the political right and left, outlining how exclusion and double standards have quietly pushed Jews out of certain social circles and institutions.Breaking Out of Echo Chambers: Jonah explains his intentional approach to reaching non-Jewish audiences, offering practical strategies for making Jewish history, identity, and reality accessible and compelling for all.Turning Shock Into Action: Both Lou and Jonah discuss why now is the time for every listener—Jewish or not—to get involved, whether through speaking up, supporting education, or taking part in community initiatives.Action Steps for Listeners:Educate Yourself & Others: Use Jonah's and Lou's recommended resources—like the "Being Jewish" podcast or the book Jews Don't Count—to gain a deeper understanding of Jewish identity and anti-Jewish hate.Get Out of Your Algorithm Bubble: Proactively engage with diverse voices online; follow, comment, and share Jewish creators and moderate voices to help humanize complex issues.Support Inclusive Education: If you're an influencer, business leader, or educator, create space for open discussions about Jews and antisemitism, and advocate for Jewish inclusion in DEI initiatives.Show Up Locally: Attend school board and town hall meetings, and encourage representation and support for Jewish groups within your community and at universities.Don't Wait for Others to Act—Start Now: Whether it's having a conversation, supporting Jewish creators, or volunteering behind the scenes, find one actionable step and take it.This isn't just a conversation for the Jewish community—Jonah and Lou make it clear that fighting hatred and building bridges is everyone's responsibility. Tune in, get inspired, and discover how you can be part of moving “the ball up the court” in the fight against bigotry and for a more inclusive future.TIMESTAMPED OVERVIEW00:00 "Exploring Jewish Identity in Media"05:07 From Side Hustle to Influencer08:59 Understanding ADHD and Self-Acceptance12:42 Navigating Antisemitism and Identity14:11 Resurgence of Right-Wing Antisemitism18:11 Foreign Influence Fuels Antisemitism21:39 Inclusive and Educational Show Success23:29 Engage and Invest Strategically28:26 Intentional Podcast Success32:05 Struggling to Fully Delegate33:23 Summer Break for Show Expansion37:03 Inception: A Film-Only Masterpiece40:11 FlyKit: Jet Lag Solution Product43:25 Respect Every Role and Task

“I do feel we have an obligation to speak up,” Alexandra Stein, PhD said on this episode of Cult Conversations: The Influence Continuum, “and it's tough for people to resist these systems when there is total silence, and that's what these systems kind of rely on.” Alexandra exited a ten year stint in a left wing political cult when she was 36 years old. Alexandra is a writer and educator specializing in the social psychology of ideological extremism and other dangerous social relationships. Her latest book, Terror, Love, and Brainwashing: Attachment in Cults and Totalitarian Systems, was released as a second edition in 2021. She is also the author of Inside Out: A Memoir of Entering and Breaking Out of a Minneapolis Political Cult. She presented her statement for the Congressional Record for the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol titled Political Cults and the Use of Cultic Tactics in the Recruitment and Mobilization of Participants in the January 6 Attack on the Capitol. Based in the UK, Stein is one of a growing number of ex cult members who have become academics who wish to share their expertise with others. A Fascinating conversation. In one of my favorite conversations, bestselling author David Epstein joins the podcast to explore how to find your path in life, the problem with 10,000 hours, and why generalists triumph in a specialized world. David and I discuss why sampling different paths before specializing tends to lead to more fulfillment. David explains why feeling "behind" is actually normal for successful people who take non-linear paths, and how "fit looks like grit" when you find something that genuinely connects with your strengths and interests. We then detail how to identify good fits, a practical process for getting good at almost anything, and what helps create a breakthrough moment. About our Guest: David Epstein is a bestselling author, science writer, and investigative reporter known for challenging conventional wisdom about peak performance. His books include Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World and The Sports Gene. You can watch this episode on YouTube.
