Anderson is an amateur writer who would much rather write something original and good, than cliché and great. Although his attempts at “Original & Great” have sometimes yielded success. While he wishes he could focus on writing more, (‘focus' being the key word), his day job at a microchip fab provides for such luxuries as food, shelter, a backyard tomato garden, and the ability to have writing as a hobby, even if he's too tired to want to do it most days. He lives in Oregon with two cats (Katie and Bobbie), is considering his alternatives to this, (on states of which to live in, not the cats).More stories by R.C.:BacktalkJourney Into IFCStory Music: "Mesmerizing Galaxy" (and others) by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Theme music: Liberator by Man In SpaceTo comment on this or any episode:Send comments and/or recordings to journeyintopodcat@gmail.comTweet us us TwitterPost a comment on Facebook here
I am watching the Taubman Technique videos. Actually, I am absolutely consuming this material. Friends, it's what you are searching for in giving freedom and new levels to your playing. On those tapes, there is an interesting quote of Dorothy Taubman some of which appears in the publicly available documentary, The Choreography of the Hands. (We have it available on the Golandsky Institute YouTube channel). She says something to the effect that teachers must provide answers and direction to these sincere, talented and earnest people who are studying the piano. It seems that Taubman really wanted to provide answers to students. Like for example, how do you put your finger on the key? Why do you get really tired playing? How do you play scales? How do you move in an arpeggio? The Taubman Approach through the Golandsky Institute and its certified teachers has answers. The Taubman Approach has solutions for jazz pianists. It opens up possibilities never seen before. Today's guest, jazz pianist Adam Klipple, gives us a window into the artistic freedom that this paradigm can give. Listen to the full episode because we talk about a ton of amazing ideas. And - Adam on a fun departure from the conversation, heads to the piano and plays! Wow. “The body is capable of fulfilling all pianistic demands without a violation of its nature if the most efficient ways are used; pain, insecurity, and lack of technical control are symptoms of incoordination rather than a lack of practice, intelligence, or talent."Dorothy TaubmanAdam Klipple is a student of John BloomfieldVisit Adam Klipple's website at: https://adamklipple.com/Adam Klipple, who has been described as "a standout pianist who has gone to school on McCoy Tyner and Cecil Taylor and earned his degree," plays piano, Hammond organ, sampler, and a variety of vintage keyboards. He currently records and performs with Veronica Swift, and is a member of the legendary jazz rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears.Adam has recorded and performed onstage with the likes of Ghostface Killah, Lauryn Hill, Graham Haynes, the Sun Ra Arkestra, Craig Harris, Joe Bowie's Defunkt, Sekou Sundiata, Marc Ribot, John Medeski, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Carla Cook, Dave Fiuczynski, David Gilmore, Josh Roseman, Peter Apfelbaum, Jay Rodriguez, Groove Collective, and Smokey Robinson. He has appeared at renowned venues including the Blue Note, Iridium, the Jazz Standard, Blues Alley, and the Knitting Factory, and at jazz festivals around the world. Also a composer and arranger, Adam has earned grants from Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Arts International, Meet the Composer, and the U.S. Department of State, enabling him to tour and teach master classes in southeast Asia, the Pacific Rim, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. The Golandsky Institute's mission is to provide cutting-edge instruction to pianists based on the groundbreaking work of Dorothy Taubman. This knowledge can help them overcome technical and musical challenges, cure and prevent playing-related injuries, and lead them to achieve their highest level of artistic excellence. Please visit our website at: www.golandskyinstitute.org.

This week's baseball fun fact. Markakis is coming back, thoughts on Joe Kelly's suspension, the new owner of the Royals. I then discuss the Folty DFA with someone who is friends with the man, Mark Hampton and we have a good conversation. I then discuss some of the awful takes from Braves Social Media Hot Takes. I then talk to Josh Roseman about some current baseball cards and which card's are trending and who's falling. Twitter-@High_And_Inside
Kage Gray hasn't been back to Waypoint 5 in 12 cycles as the T'Tin reckon things. He never meant to come back again at all, but he's got a problem that needs to be solved. What's worse, Waypoint 5 has only gotten worse since he left. Now there's an Iniquity operating onboard, and he's going to have to go inside... Afterward, Big and Rish talk about the long and winding road that this story traveled toward its final appearance on the show, and just how patient Mr. Roseman has been in awaiting that day. Special super duper thanks to Justin Charles for producing the story and also to Bria Burton, Tena Kolokowski, Chris White, Gino Moretto, Cameron Howard, Bill Bowman, Leo Godin, and John Higham for lending their voices to this episode.

Wes is tired of being fat. He's tried everything, diet, exercise, medication, even surgery, but he remains morbidly obese. Nothing works, and he's about to find out why... When Greg discovers what appears to be a secret message in his computer (and everybody else's), he has the option of believing it to be from "somewhere else" or just ignoring it like the vast majority would. Which will he choose? Well, the story's title may give you a bit of a hint there. Afterward, Big and Rish talk about the story's ending, and then Rish says a few words about his recent trip to the San Diego Comic-Con. Alright, more than just a few words.Special thanks to A. W. Gifford for producing today's story, also to Jennifer Gifford, Gina Padilla, Joshua Porter, The Tie Dye Flipster, Sgzhanke S. Carlo, and A. W. Gifford for lending their voices to today's episode.
Remel is one of the greatest swordsmen in the land. He definitely would be the greatest, but he has a few challenges that stand in his way...especially today, and with an invading force sacking the city, what will he do?Afterward, Big and Rish say silly things. Most of the really heavy, depressing stuff has been cut out of this episode, so while it might still be offensive, it's sure to be fun.Special thanks to SonnySee for producing today's story, also to Bryan Lincoln, Dan Lynch, DesiaB, Rob Haines, Josh Roseman, Damon Shaw, Wendy Cooper, Scott Pigg, and SonnySee for lending their voices to today's episode.
Is this our Valentine's Day episode, or another anti-Valentine's show? You be the judge. It's the question on everybody's minds, as soon as they hear about fully-functional, human-like robots. And though you wouldn't know it from listening to Rish Outfield, this story was not written by Robert Louis Stevenson. Afterward, very little gets said about robot sex, but there is a little more spoken about human relationships, and a couple of stories about inspiration are swapped. If you're that guy who complained about platitudes, though, you will find nothing of worth here, so move along.Special thanks to Kim Price, Julie Hoverson, Bryan Lincoln, Marshal Latham, Amory Lowe, Joe Zieja, Josh Roseman, Damon Shaw, Amanda Crum, Clay Dugger, and Scott Pigg for lending their voices to today's episode.

There was an error with the original upload of this episode that caused 25 minutes of the show to disappear. This is the corrected upload. The Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine marks one hundred over-long episodes with “The Battle of Leila the Dog” by Rick Kennett. Cy De Gerch is being pestered by the sound of a whining dog…only dogs aren't allowed on the bridge of a fighting space vessel in a war zone. What is going on? Afterward, Big and Rish talk about . . . oh no, not about dogs again. Ghost dogs! “Where the Red Fern Grows!” Corporal Liam Tasker! This can only end badly. And it looks like Rish Outfield has opened his big mouth one time too many. Special thanks R.E. Chambliss, Rich Girardi, and Josh Roseman for lending their voices to today's episode.

However, the employers don't want to give it to him, and just what exactly is his motivation for taking this job anyway? Also, Big and Rish talk about positive Science Fiction, not keeping score, Star Trek and The Next Generation, the Pinewood Derby, Avatar (not in relation to Titanic), and, of course, My Little Pony.Special thanks to Suzanne Earley, Josh Roseman, Julie Hoverson, and Abigail Hilton for lending their voices to today's episode.

Now, he's in a desperate search to discover who is responsible before the authorities find out and throw him in jail. Also, Rish talks about his aversion to Cyberpunk, and Big calls himself a "craphole." Then they argue about James Cameron's Avatar, which they went to together, and Rish rambles semi-offensively for a while. They may mention their worst moviegoing experiences in there somewhere.Special thanks to Liz Mierzejewski, Julie Hoverson and Josh Roseman for lending their voices to this episode.

"Someone arrives in town, and discovers that everyone there is exactly the same." In this episode, we feature three different pieces on the above theme, by three different authors. In "The Return," Kevin Anderson interprets the subject in verse. In "Scriptopia," Michael A. Kechula tells of a visit to a strange place, where everyone is a writer, but Kevin would decidedly not be welcome. In "Chemo: The Town of Golden Woods" by J.M. Perkins, an elite team of trained agents is sent into a little town, in search of the previous team that went in . . . and didn't report back.Special thanks to Josh Roseman, Nicole Suddeth, Liz Mierzejewski, Abbie Hilton, and Marcus Brodeur for lending their voices to today's show.

Ever seen a human soul? I mean the actual ball of light in every person's chest, the essence of their being? Also, Big and Rish talk about April's Broken Mirror Story Event. A special thank you to Josh Roseman for the editing on today's story.
