This show has been flagged as Clean by the host. TuxJam co-host Kevie follows up on HPR4287 with a bit of a tweak to the Crontab, but still using the ffmpeg command to record. In the previous episode, the example stream url that was given proved to be unpopular with ffmpeg due to the characters that it contained. A quick work around for this was to put it in a url shortener, for this example I'm using TinyURL . Another issue arose when the stream recorded without first removing the audio file, I could see this being an issue when you want to record a show when you will be away over multiple weeks. To overcome this we simply edit the Crontab file (command crontab -e ) and add the following to the end of the file, before the extension: $(date +"%Y_%m_%d") So the template chances from: * * * * * ffmpeg -i https://streamurl -t HH:MM:SS /path/filename.ogg to * * * * * ffmpeg -i https://streamurl -t HH:MM:SS /path/filename$(date +"%Y_%m_%d").ogg I forgot to say in the show that you need to add before % in Cron or it will not behave as expected. The example of recording Dan Lynch's Pic and Mix show on Arrow Radio every Thursday at 7pm would now be: 00 19 * * 4 ffmpeg -i https://tinyurl.com/msm6ya6f -t 02:00:00 ~/Recordings/DanLynchPickMix$(date +"%Y_%m_%d").ogg Provide feedback on this episode.

This show has been flagged as Clean by the host. TuxJam co-host Kevie does a follow up show to episode 4249 with a look at scheduling a stream recording using crontab and the ffmpeg command. The two things that we will need to set this up are the audio stream url and the time of the show. To set this up we need to go setup a new Cron task: crontab -e and navigate to the bottom of the file. The first thing that it will expect you to enter is the timing for this task, this will be written as * * * * * with the information needed being converted into an appropriate number: minute hour day of month month day of week (0-59) (0-23) (1-31) (1-12) (0-7) * * * * * Then we need to enter ffmpeg -i followed by the stream URL. It is important that we include the duration of the recording, so that this doesn't output a huge file. To set the time enter -t HH:MM:SS making sure to replace the HH(hours) MM(minutes) and SS(seconds) with numbers. Almost done. The last thing we need to do is to enter the location for the file to go along with the name /path/filename.ogg. So in short form the command is * * * * * ffmpeg -i https://streamurl -t HH:MM:SS /path/filename.ogg. The example used in the show for Dan Lynch's Mid Week Pick and Mix: 00 19 * * 4 ffmpeg -i https://arrowestream.radioca.st/;?ver=737183.mp3 -t 02:00:00 ~/Recordings/DanLynchPickMix.oggProvide feedback on this episode.

This week hosts Mike Nawrocki and Sarah Humphrey talk with author Troy Schmidt and producer of our podcast Dan Lynch about their new middle reader fiction series, THE SEVEN. The first two books in the series release December 1st - just in time for Christmas with five more books planned over the next two years. THE SEVEN time-travel adventure series follows a group of kids who are given incredible powers (mapping to the gifts of the spirit) which begin day then find each other over the course of the book series. They unite to battle a villain who is trying to disrupt Bible history. In the first book of the series FLOOD, Josh Davidson's dad, Edison, has created a time travel backpack that is stolen by the evil Dr. Bales, who uses it to travel to Noah's day to sink the ark! Josh and his newfound friends, with the help of Big Mike, an operative with a secret, covert organization, follow Dr. Bales to stop him before all of humanity (and nature) is completely destroyed.  In the second book of the series, FIRE, Josh and his friends journey to the Middle East to save their friend Hajj and travel back in time to witness the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. They work to make sure Lot and his family get out in time and uncover Dr. Bales plan to take out Abraham. THE SEVEN carefully follows biblical history and even throws in some archaeology to show the truth behind the Bible. Every book has a secret code adventurers can decipher, testing to see how carefully they are reading. ---------------------------------------------- The BIble for Kids is now a 501c3 non-profit and we'd love to have you join us in our mission of reaching kids with the message of the Bible. In today's podcast, John first discusses the period of insanity of Trey Lance in San Francisco coming to an end as he was dealt from the 49ers to the Cowboys, the Braves and the Dodgers beginning a huge 4-game series in L.A. tonight, and the Angels basically admitting their trade deadline plan spectacularly backfired. Then, SiriusXM Big Ten Today producer Dan Lynch joins the program to walk down memory lane from when he first met John at King's, Mayor's Cup moments, how the NIL has made a huge impact on Division III schools, Skyler Fultz making his head coaching debut at their alma mater this weekend. Then he talks about whether Penn State can finally surpass Ohio State and Michigan in the Big Ten and what Bret Bielema brings to the table at Illinois this season and what should make for a successful season for the Fighting Illini. Then he talks about what makes Caleb Williams so great, the plethora of excellent QB's in the Pac-12, the culture at Utah, games to watch this weekend, if Florida State can still make the playoff even if they lose to LSU on Sunday night, why Utah vs. Florida tonight is intriguing, and whether Sam Hartman can get Notre Dame to the playoff and what Notre Dame should do in the future in response to the unprecedented realignment going on in college football. Doc Searls, Dan Lynch, and Jonathan Bennett talk about what happens when open source companies get too big for the licenses that helped them get there, and how their communities are dealing with that. Red Hat recently changed its source code distribution rules, prompting other vendors like Oracle, SUSE, and CIQ to form the Open Enterprise Linux Association in response. What are the implications of these changes, and do Red Hat's actions violate the GPL? Canonical's tight control over the LXD container management project, pulling it back in-house from the open source community which led to a community fork being created called Incus. Companies like MongoDB and Hashicorp are moving away from open source licenses towards "source available" licenses like the Business Source License (BSL) that restrict commercial use. There are growing concerns around using AI-generated code from tools like GitHub Copilot, and whether copyright and licensing restrictions carry over. Apple reverses its stance on right-to-repair, with Apple throwing its support behind a California right-to-repair bill. iFixit and Public Knowledge have been hit with a DMCA violation for creating a device that interacts with a McDonald's ice cream machine. Episode 2346 - On this Monday's show Vinnie Tortorich and Anna Vocino discuss bad advice from TikTok, advocating for your health, and more. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS You can watch our episodes on Vinnie's Fitness Confidential YOUTUBE  channel Don't forget to subscribe, favorite and share our podcasts there!  BAD ADVICE FROM TIK TOK Vinnie was having a good day spending time with friend Dan Lynch. (3:50) Dan Lynch has an impressive record—he has rowed over 1000 days in a row, 2000 meters a day. He rowed even while going through chemo. Dan challenges himself to streaks with daily rowing no matter what. But then Vinnie opened an email that led to a guy on TikTok who claimed to lose weight while eating McDonald's 100 days in a row. (8:00)  Vinnie plays the video and Vinnie and Anna analyze what they see. (10:35) They explain why they are suspicious of the video as being authentic. There is skirting of details and the guy sounds coached. Looking at his TikTok, the guy appears quite media savvy. They review the bad dietary advice from the TikTok video. (23:30)  The man in the video denies having a relationship with McDonald's. Vinnie adds some thoughts to what he's seen and heard. Anna asks a question regarding calories; CICO can help you lose weight, but it's unsustainable. CUE THE MUSIC Vinnie tries to calm down, and the best way to do that is through Indian music and Villa Cappelli. (30:15) Anna reads an email from Melissa about how NSNG has helped her during menopause. (37:20) Melissa even went vegan at one point but her symptoms got worse. Melissa's email is a positive message, as opposed to the TikTok video, which is like driving an infected monkey to an airport. At least The Today Show gave a disclaimer from a nutritionist verifying that eating only McDonald's is bad advice from TikTok. Vinnie shares some of the concerns he hears from people while having consultations. (42:00) He hears a variety of frustrations, including with their doctors and the “sick care” system. Anna and Vinnie believe there will be a  huge fallout from the weight loss drugs that are popular now. Anna tells the story of a recent doctor's visit with her husband. (45:30)  She discusses his A1C and fasting glucose and other concerns. Anna refers to Loren as "ASAG", "All sugars, all grains"–and it's starting to catch up to him. You have to find a doctor that is willing to work with you and who “gets it”. Vinnie tells the story of Marie's fall, her injuries, and how Vinnie helped handle it. (50:00)  You can't let doctors automatically steamroll you— you need to advocate for yourself! [the_ad id="20253"] PURCHASE BEYOND IMPOSSIBLE (2022) The documentary launched on January 11!
