This podcast is a follow-up to Bayer's symposium at EHRA 2022 ‘What if? Protecting your patients with AF from stroke, no matter their journey.' In this discussion, Professor John Camm and Professor Keith Fox provide further insight as to why patients with AF undergoing PCI need such close attention when choosing an antithrombotic regimen. They also explore additional considerations for the management of patients with AF undergoing elective PCI. Finally, the experts provide their perspectives on how patients with AF undergoing catheter ablation can be best protected from cardioembolic stroke. The views and opinions expressed throughout this podcast are those of the speakers based on their expertise and do not necessarily reflect those of Bayer. The second installment of this four-part podcast miniseries features Artnet News senior writer Sarah Cascone's interview with art collector and media executive Catherine Levene. Levene's 25-year career runs the breadth of the media space, beginning at the New York Times Company in both the corporate sales realm and later as part of its burgeoning digital strategy. After obtaining her MBA, Levene ventured into media startups, and ultimately started a new company, Artspace, alongside business partner Christopher Vroom in 2011. Artspace was one of the first platforms to introduce e-commerce to the art market, and in 2014 the publishing house Phaidon bought the company, helmed by Keith Fox. In 2020, Levene was announced as the new head of media organization Meredith Corp., becoming the first female executive to lead the magazine conglomerate that includes People, InStyle, Travel + Leisure, and Cooking Light. Born in Binghamton, New York, Levene has kept a pulse on the art world, beginning a collection that she continues to build year after year.

Modifying our genes. Is it playing God? In episode three of our Science and Faith series, we explore different aspects of the often controversial field of genetic modification. We began with Fr Robert Verrill's introduction to the Augustinian prelate Gregor Mendel, known as the Father of Genetics, and the empirical data he obtained of trait inheritance in pea plants. We were then in a position to ask Prof. Keith Fox for a definition of the term ‘genetic modification', which Dr Hilary Yancey followed up by examining some of the reasons why the scientific community is interested in genome manipulation. Lastly, we posed questions about the risks and regulations of genetic engineering. In our theology segment, we addressed whether there is a clear stance on which genetic modifications are morally permissible before moving on to the potential social ramifications of these procedures. This discussion resulted in the acknowledgement of individual gifts, talents, uniqueness and the importance of protecting human life in all its forms. Ultimately, what principles should guide us in determining the appropriate use of genetic modification? A bacterial flagellum acts as the outboard motor on a bacteria. But is the complex arrangement of parts that enable it to do its job a result of design or evolution? Michael Behe first opened the debate on the ‘irreducible complexity’ of biochemical machines in his 1996 book Darwin’s Black Box. Intelligent Design proponent Jonathan McLatchie and theistic evolutionist Keith Fox debate whether Behe’s theory has stood the test of time, the bacterial flagellum and whether ID is a science stopper or theologically helpful. Doug Axe is a molecular biologist who says that his work on molecular systems convinced him that life is designed, rather than a result of unguided evolution. He lays out the evidence in the book ‘Undeniable: How biology confirms our intuition that life is designed’ and why his intelligent design conclusions got him into trouble as a researcher in Cambridge. Keith Fox is Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Southampton, and believes that evolution and Christian faith are complementary. Michael Behe is professor of biochemistry at Lehigh University, Pennsylvania and the founder of the modern Intelligent Design movement. His book "Darwin's Black Box" ignited the controversy 14 years ago when it claimed that certain molecular machines and biological processes are "irreducibly complex" and cannot be explained by Darwinian evolution. His new book "The Edge of Evolution" takes his conclusions further, arguing that the Darwinian processes of random mutation and natural selection are incapable of producing the variation and complexity we see in most of life. So can we conclude that life was intelligently designed by a creator? Keith Fox is Professor of biochemistry at the University of Southampton and chairman of Christians in Science. As a theistic evolutionist he believes that Evolution is the best explanation going for the complexity we see and that ID is a blind scientific alley and theologically unappealing to boot. They debate whether micromachines in the cell such as the "bacterial flagellum" could have evolved by a Darwinian process of evolution. When inference to design is and isn't acceptable in science. Whether random mutation can mathematically stack up to complex life, and whether God is reduced to a divine "tinkerer" by ID.
