The letter highlights the lack of support and compassion from Nationwide Platforms post-tragedy, along with frustrations with the police and judicial processes. Despite some updates from the HSE, the families remain deeply let down. This heartfelt message underscores the emotional and bureaucratic struggles faced by families of workplace accident victims.

From https://www.therealmackaymansion.com/Built in 1859 by George Hearst, the Mackay Mansion allows people to step back in time into an authentic Victorian era mansion. It is one of the few remaining original structures that survived both the major fires. It also is one of the few building with original furniture, carpet, wall paper, chandeliers, and much more! George Hearst gained his family fortune from the corresponding mine & sold the property in 1871 to John Mackay, an Irish immigrant. Shortly after, John Mackay hit the Bonanza Strike, one of the largest silver strikes in world history. Mackay split the profits with his three partners: James Fair, James Flood, and William O'Brien. They became known as "The Big Four" or "The Silver Kings" of Virginia City. John Mackay, James Fair, James Flood, and William O'Brien, conducted all their mining business inside the Mackay Mansion mining office, while Mr. Mackay lived with his family in the rest of the building. This historic mansion is also a well known haunted location. The Mackay Mansion has been featured on the Ghost Adventures and the Dead Files. Famous actor Johnny Depp also had his first paranormal experience at the mansion. Do upright fossilized trees demolish the idea of an old earth? Eric Hovind's Creation Today show welcomes Australian creationist John Mackay to discuss the so-called polystrate trees or polystrate fossils.I am personally completely swayed by anything said in an Australian accent. Doesn't matter if it's Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Keith Urban, Iggy Azalea, Michelle Jenneke or even Ken Ham.While Eric Hovind gawks, John Mackay argues that these polystrate trees are evidence that the world cannot be millions (or billions) of years old. How did these fossils end up standing upright through multiple strata of the earth?Or was this mystery solved in Joggins, Nova Scotia back in 1868?All clips are copyright the original copyright holders and owners. Dr John started to focus on the scientific principles of extraction and testing of cannabis in 2012, when few regulations and fewer standard operating procedures existed. Learning about the power of cannabis on seizures and epilepsy motivated him to take his studies further, as his sister lived with and died due to seizures. John's curiosity took root, and he became determined to bring science to this process. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The three part series of comparing and contrasting confessional Protestant churches in the U.S. comes to a close with Presbyterians this time. Younger listeners may have a hard time understanding that during the two decades after World War II, Presbyterianism was in the sweet spot of American identity. Of course, that did not extend to conservative communions like the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. But with POTUSes and movie stars lining up to commune in mainline Presbyterian congregations, you could readily find books like John A. Mackay's The Presbyterian Way of Life, which received this assessment from Kirkus Reviews: Having been steeped in the Presbyterian tradition of his native Scotland, Dr. Mackay knows and loves the Presbyterian Church. In this book he deals with the background of the Presbyterian Church in the life and work of Calvin and in the Westminster Confession. He characterizes Presbyterians as a ""theological- concerned people"", and illustrates this characterization by reference to the Presbyterian doctrines dealing with God, man and the church. He describes the organization of the Presbyterian Church, the features of its worship and its relation to the world order. While a staunch Presbyterian, Dr. Mackay is not a narrow one and in his closing chapter he outlines the part that Presbyterians have played and are playing in the ecumenical movement. Those who have had experience in interdenominational enterprises know that Presbyterians can always be counted upon for cooperation. One reason for this is that the denomination has raised up many men of the liberal and progressive spirit of John Mackay. Has Presbyterianism lost its way? Do Anglicans and Lutherans pay attention to Presbyterians? If so, as partners, a threat, or as whackos? All this and more in this recording. Introductions to the pudcast and the interlocutors are available here.
“If you insulted Mackay you could expect to get in a fistfight.” My good friend and author Greg Crouch comes back on the Paleo Treats podcast to discuss the story of John Mackay, one of the four Bonanza Kings who ran the massive profitable Con. Virginia mine on the Comstock Lode. Greg talks about how the digital age has transformed writing about historical events, about how writing a book actually happens, and how he developed his writing style. “I signed the contract for the book in summer of 2014, and it was published in 2018. With 3 months to go on the contract due date and after 3 years of work, I was thinking, I don't know if I can do this!” Greg is a West Point grad, was a Ranger during the invasion of Panama, a climber putting up first ascents in Patagonia, and an incredibly well read and thoughtful human. He's one of my go to sources when I want to understand the world because he has an uncanny memory that is the result of years and years of reading and the big W word: Work. Within the first page of reading The Bonanza King you'll see just how much of that work Greg puts in a book. The facts, the background, the perspective, and the connections across a wide swath of that history show the depth and breadth of sheer study he puts in to writing a book. From Mark Twain's connection to John Mackay all the way to how the Civil War was affected by gold mining in Nevada, and from the development of San Francisco to the laying down of our modern lines of communications, Greg paints an incredible picture of an absolutely remarkable story. Whether you like rags to riches, stories of hard work, engineering ingenuity, or just reading about a rippingly interesting slice of history, The Bonanza King is as good as you'll get, and with the background of this podcast, that much more enjoyable. Sit back and dig in to the show! Cheers, Nik @ PT
John Mackay's life began humbly, immigrating as a child from an impoverished Irish household to New York City where he worked selling newspapers in the streets. Within four decades, he was a stakeholder in one of the wealthiest precious metal strikes in the history of the American West, and by the end of his life was one of the wealthiest men in the United States. Gregory Crouch tells Mackay's fascinating story in The Bonanza King: John Mackay and the Battle Over the Greatest Riches in the American West (Scribner, 2018). Crouch's book is about more than Mackay's rags to riches tale, however. The Bonanza King is also a portrait of Virginia City, Nevada, as it grew from dusty mining camp to mountain boomtown before falling again into relative obscurity. Mackay and Virginia City together encapsulate how the mineral economy of the Great Basin could create and destroy seemingly on a whim, and The Bonanza King is a rollicking retelling of how the man and the place were inseparably linked during the heady days of the Gilded Age West.
