Send me a messageAcclaimed mastering engineer Mike Marsh demystifies the final stage of music production in this insightful episode. With a career spanning over three decades, working with artists like Björk, The Chemical Brothers, and Depeche Mode, Mike offers unparalleled expertise on what music mastering is and why it's important. He addresses the common misconception of the "fix it in mastering" mindset, explaining that mastering cannot correct issues that should have been resolved during mixing. This highlights the critical difference between mixing and mastering in music.Mike shares practical music mastering tips for independent artists, emphasising the importance of understanding your listening environment over relying solely on expensive equipment. He notes that some of the best mixes he's received came from modest home studios, underscoring that quality results are achievable without high-end gear. The discussion also covers common mastering mistakes to avoid, such as over-compression and neglecting proper monitoring. Mike weighs in on the debate: Do you need a mastering engineer or can you DIY? He suggests that while self-mastering is possible, a professional's fresh perspective often enhances the final product.Whether you're a seasoned producer or just starting, this episode provides valuable insights to elevate your music's final polish.Links mentioned in this episode:Listen to Half-LifeFollow Mike Marsh Support the showBook your FREE 20 Minute Discovery Call Follow Marc Matthews' Socials:Instagram | YouTube | Synth Music Mastering Thanks for listening!!

Kelly Image Credit: Paul Evangelion 2025 ++ Last Monday, Easter Monday, the 21st of April 2025, we received news that our Pope, Pope Francis, had passed away. Our prayers are with him and we commend his soul to God's heavenly care, with gratitude for his ministry and his love and his message of Christ's gospel of mercy and inclusion. Let's keep the repose of the soul of Pope Francis in our prayers and pray for the Church as it enters this time of discernment, as the Cardinals, inspired by the Holy Spirit, meet to elect a new Pope. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. "Still refuse to sell my spirit to eat..." - Phonte A lot of midtempo business this month, as we combine the remembrance of Biggie Smalls and Phife Dawg with some era-appropriate classics, a few obscurities, and then blend in some brand new material that shows how the true artistry of the culture continues to flourish! I just finished adding all the links into the show notes and then my veteran computer hung...so have tried to replace them all! Besides those, here's my Instagram post on the closing of the Hip Hop Chip Shop, which I mentioned on the episode...it'll be much missed. Mastodon : @airadam@mastodon.me.uk Twitch : @airadam13

On a summer day in 1908, a group of picnickers found an old steamer trunk covered in overgrowth in a ravine in New Jersey. Inside was the partially decomposed body of Solomon Rosenbloom, a merchant from Windber, Pennsylvania, some 240 miles west, who went missing in late 1907. This discovery answered the question of where Rosenbloom went, and also revealed a secret, with Rosenbloom's wife sharing that their youngest son Alex had admitted to killing his father before he himself disappeared. When Roman Luczkowski was married in January 1928, it was likely a surprise to most who knew him, especially considering the 21-year-old was marrying someone nearly 30 years older than him. But the real shock came a little over two months later, when his bride, the former Marie Slade, was found dead and her body crammed into a 3-foot long box. Roman was quickly identified as the culprit, and an avalanche of secrets followed, such as his intimate relationships with other men and the fact that Marie had never divorced her most recent husband before marrying the man young enough to be her son.
