In John 11, we walk through one of the most powerful moments in all of Scripture — the death and resurrection of Lazarus. Why did Jesus wait? What does His response teach us about suffering, faith, grief, and the glory of God? And what did Jesus mean when He said, “I am the resurrection and the life”?In this Bible study, we break down the story of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus verse by verse and look at the deep spiritual truths found in this chapter. We also discuss one of the shortest yet most meaningful verses in the Bible: “Jesus wept.”Whether you're walking through a difficult season, wrestling with unanswered prayers, or simply wanting to grow deeper in your understanding of Scripture, John 11 is filled with hope and encouragement.

Send us Fan MailIn this verse-by-verse Bible study of Job 19:23–29, Reasoning Through the Bible reaches one of the most powerful declarations in the entire book of Job. After chapters of pain, confusion, and deep emotional struggle, Job plants his feet firmly and says, “I know that my Redeemer lives.” This session explores why that statement matters so much and how it reveals Job's enduring faith even when everything around him has fallen apart. This study explains the meaning of the kinsman-redeemer, how Job expected a Redeemer to stand on the earth in the latter days, and why this passage points toward Jesus Christ as the one who redeems His people. It also examines Job's belief in bodily resurrection and his confidence that even after death he would see God for himself. The second half of the session highlights Job's warning that final judgment is real and then introduces Zophar's second speech, where Job's friend responds with more legalism, harsher accusations, and deeper insult. The episode becomes a contrast between living hope in God and the failure of graceless theology. Topics in this episode include: Job 19:23–29 explained my Redeemer lives the kinsman-redeemer in the Bible Jesus as Redeemer bodily resurrection in Job faith in suffering final judgment Zophar's legalism why believers must hold on to God Reasoning Through the Bible is a verse-by-verse Bible teaching ministry committed to careful exposition, biblical context, and faithful application.Support the showThank you for listening!! As Christians enter the most solemn stretch of the liturgical year, theologian David Ford — who spent over twenty years writing his commentary on the Gospel of John — makes the case that no other Gospel prepares you for the cross the way John does. "The right question is not so much what happened on the cross, as who happened on the cross. All through the gospel, every chapter, John is saying — who Jesus is is the most important thing." In this episode with Macie Bridge, Ford reflects on why John's Gospel resists rushing past darkness to get to Easter. Together they discuss what the foot washing reveals about power and humble service; how John's prologue frames the entire passion through the mystery of incarnation; Jesus before Pilate and the priority of truth over empire; the horrific interpretive legacy of antisemitism in Luther, Augustine, and centuries of Christian reading; how the Gospel universalizes identity by rooting it in God rather than lineage; the scene at the cross as the seed of the church; and what Ford calls the sheer superabundance of grace — loving "utterly, intimately, vulnerably, mutually." Episode Highlights "The one thing one mustn't do with these days is see the resurrection as just coming down off the cross a few days later. That trivializes the cross." "Jesus is portrayed as being utterly one with God and utterly one with us. He's mortal. He's flesh. He can weep. He suffers." "The right question is not so much what happened on the cross, as who happened on the cross." "We are invited into this extraordinary intensity of the divine glory — but it's a glory that is utterly, utterly realistic about darkness, sin, death, suffering, and evil." "The whole gospel, I think, is an education of desire." About David Ford David F. Some Christians believe that seeking and having money will keep you out of the Kingdom of God. They hold this belief, because in the Bible Jesus told a rich, young ruler to sell all he had and give it to poor, and then he could have eternal life. Based on this Bible passage, many have drawn a negative connection between having money and entering the Kingdom of God. So is this true? Well, in today's message, we examine this concept through the Word of God to make a determination. __________ Mark 10:23 KJV, Mark 10:15–17 KJV, Mark 10:19–22 KJV, Luke 19:2–6 KJV, Luke 19:8–9 KJV, Mark 10:24–25 KJV, Exodus 20:3 KJV, Matthew 6:24 KJV __________ Partner with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/partner Connect with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com Leave a Comment: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/comments __________

What if everything you thought you knew about how Jesus read the Bible was incomplete? In this eye-opening conversation, we sit down with Dr. Bruce Chilton, the Bernard Iddings Bell Professor of Religion at Bard College and the first scholar to write a critical commentary on the Aramaic Isaiah Targum. Dr. Chilton reveals a hidden world that most Christians have never encountered—the Aramaic Targums, the interpretive paraphrases of Scripture that Jesus actually heard and used in first-century synagogues. These weren't word-for-word translations; they were dynamic, expansive interpretations that shaped how Jesus understood and taught about God's kingdom, the suffering servant, and the very nature of Scripture itself. This conversation will completely reframe how you read both the Old Testament and the Gospels. Dr. Chilton walks us through specific examples where Jesus quotes Targumic readings, explains why the religious leaders opposed him so fiercely, and shows how understanding this tradition unlocks passages that have puzzled Christians for centuries. From the vineyard parable to Jesus' Nazareth sermon, from his debates with Pharisees to Paul's bilingual mastery, you'll discover that the Bible Jesus knew was far more dynamic and alive than the static text many of us assume. This is scholarly depth made accessible, and it will change the way you engage with Scripture forever. In this episode you will learn:- What Targums are and why they've remained hidden from most Christians for centuries- How first-century synagogues functioned and what Jesus would have actually heard when Scripture was read- Why Jesus' understanding of "the Kingdom of God" came directly from Targumic theology, not from thin air- How to distinguish between original Hebrew text and interpretive Targumic expansions- Specific examples where Jesus quotes Targumic readings that completely change how we understand Gospel passages- Why the Isaiah Targum interprets the "suffering servant" differently than most Christians expect- How Jesus' debates with Pharisees were actually insider arguments over Targumic interpretations- What's really happening in Jesus' Nazareth sermon when he reads from Isaiah and claims fulfillment- Why Jesus spoke in parables and how the Targum reveals his true motivation- How the vineyard parable in Mark 12 directly connects to the Isaiah Targum's teaching about the templeDr. Bruce Chilton's Books:A Galilean Rabbi and His BibleTargums and Rabbinic Literature (Zondervan)Rabbi Jesus: An Intimate BiographyConnect with The Dig In Podcast:Subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@thejohnnyovaFollow Johnny Ova: https://linktr.ee/johnnyovaGet Johnny's book, The Revelation Reset: https://a.co/d/hiUkW8H
