Reach out! I'd love to hear from you! What happens when decorating for a women's ministry event turns into a profound spiritual revelation? Join us for a heart-warming exploration of how stained glass becomes the perfect metaphor for our spiritual lives.Joanne Sharp takes us on her journey from Pinterest rabbit holes to divine inspiration, discovering that stained glass—unlike any other art form—requires light to pass through it to achieve its full beauty. This simple fact unlocks a powerful truth: we are like pieces of stained glass, each uniquely shaped and colored by our experiences, yet dependent on God's light shining through us to radiate His glory. The custom-made illuminated cross becomes a centerpiece not just for the event, but for understanding our connection to each other. When one piece of glass cracks or breaks, the surrounding pieces hold it in place. Similarly, even in our darkest moments, our sisters in Christ alongside us provide strength, support, and an unbreakable connection to the source of light. From Genesis where God first created light to Revelation where His radiance eliminates the need for sun or lamps, Joanne guides us through Scripture's consistent message of divine illumination. Jesus declared Himself the light, then called us to be light-bearers too. This gives us reason to sing even in darkness, knowing His unfailing love continually illuminates our path.Whatever shadow you're facing today, remember that God's light transforms brokenness into beauty. Together, we become a living stained glass masterpiece—colorful testimonies to God's redemptive work. Welcome, Warriors, to The Power of God's Whisper Podcast! Have you ever read a passage of Scripture and suddenly, it came alive in a way it never had before? That's not coincidence—it's the Holy Spirit at work, illuminating God's truth. Our springboard for today's discussion is: John 14:26—“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”Jesus made a profound promise before He ascended—the Holy Spirit would come, not just as a comforter, but as a divine teacher. The Bible is not just words on a page; it is a living, breathing message that requires spiritual discernment to fully grasp. Without the Spirit, Scripture can feel dry, like an academic text. But with the Spirit, the Word of God becomes a powerful force, cutting through confusion and speaking directly to our hearts. To truly understand and apply Scripture, we must rely on the Holy Spirit. He brings clarity, conviction, and revelation. He doesn't just remind us of what Jesus said; He personalizes it, making the Word applicable to our daily struggles and victories. When we invite Him into our Bible study, we move beyond mere reading and into divine encounters.Question of the Day: Have you ever had a moment where Scripture suddenly spoke to you in a way that changed everything? How did the Holy Spirit bring it to life?Let's Pray: Lord, we invite Your Holy Spirit to illuminate Your Word in our hearts. Help us not just to read but to understand, not just to know but to live by Your truth. Open our eyes to the deep revelations You have for us. Taking an ambulance to a hospital looked a lot different 70 or 80 years ago. Its job was to get you to the hospital quickly, not as much about medical treatment along the way.A pioneering ambulance service in Southern Minnesota helped improve survival rates and professionalize the job to what it is today: a hospital on wheels.A new exhibit at the History Center of Olmsted County puts the spotlight on Gold Cross Ambulance and its advances, and a panel discussion Thursday night aims to find solutions for the challenges that remain in rural emergency medical services.Wayne Gannaway is the history center's executive director. He spoke with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer about the exhibit.
In this election year, the issue of immigration has become especially contentious. As one of the four states that share a border with Mexico, California has often tried to lead compassionately, especially when it comes to supporting immigrant children who come here alone. So far this year, nearly 10,000 immigrant youth have made new homes in California. Hundreds of them have benefitted from a unique program that provides legal help and guides them as they adjust to life in a new country. Reporter Lauren DeLaunay Miller brings us the story of one high school student whose life was transformed by the program, and tells us why he believes this program needs to stick around for good. Plus, we visit San Francisco's Buena Vista Horace Mann school. By day, it's a Spanish immersion school for students from kindergarten to 8th grade. But by night, it transforms into something completely unique in the city: a homeless shelter for families with children enrolled in the school district. VYS0039 | Try Not To Be A Dick Shall Be The Whole Of The Law - Vayse to Face with Duncan Barford - Show Notes After a 3 month break, Vayse returns for an interview with a person who inspired the podcast before it was even a podcast - writer, podcaster and psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counsellor, Duncan Barford. Duncan's book Occult Experiments in the Home was a major influence on Hine and Buckley's views on magick and mysticism but for this interview they zero in on aspects of his career as a therapist, focusing on mental health and how this can affect and be affected by the occult and occult practices: Why do so many prominent figures in magick seem to have mental health issues or addictions? Where do you draw the line between mystical experience and mental health disorder? How do you maintain a magical practice when your mental health isn't good? Is it safe to have a magical practice at all? and most importantly... what kind of deep-seated psychological damage is preventing Hine from remembering the name of Duncan's new book? (Recorded 12 June 2024). Today, on the eve of the total lunar eclipse of the sun, the media is full of practical guides about how to tilt our heads at this once-in-a-lifetime celestial event. But what about the metaphysical questions about the eclipse? What should it mean to us humans, both in terms of our existence on earth and to our planet's uncertain future? According to cosmological poet Christopher Cokinos, author of the new STILL AS BRIGHT: An Illuminating History of the Moon from Antiquity to Tomorrow, the eclipse should make us humble. It's a sneak preview, Cokinos reminds us, of the inevitable fate of the earth when, in a billion years, the sun will be extinguished. And, he reminds us, it should also be a reminder of our ever-so-small place alongside other species in the vastness of universe. Christopher Cokinos is the author of three books of literary nonfiction: Hope Is the Thing with Feathers: A Personal Chronicle of Vanished Birds (Tarcher/Penguin 2000); The Fallen Sky: An Intimate History of Shooting Stars (Tarcher/Penguin 2009); and Bodies, of the Holocene (Truman 2013). In 2016, the University of Arizona Press published his co-edited anthology (with Eric Magrane) The Sonoran Desert: A Literary Field Guide, which won a Southwest Book of the Year Award. The poet Gabriel Gudding selected his collection The Underneath as winner of a New American Press Poetry Prize, and it appeared in 2019. With Julie Swarstad Johnson, Cokinos co-edited Beyond Earth's Edge: The Poetry of Spaceflight (Arizona, 2020), which was featured on Planetary Radio, PBS's “The Open Mind” and in Scientific American. He's also the author of a poetry chapbook, Held as Earth (Finishing Line). His new nonfiction book, Still as Bright: A Backyard Journey through the Natural and Human History of the Moon, is just out from New York independent Pegasus Books. Get .1 ASHA CEU hereEpisode SummaryEver feel under-equipped to deal with the counseling demands that often pop up in your daily SLP work? You're not alone! So much of what we do as SLP's is “grief work” and many of us find ourselves in over our heads at times with the counseling needs of our clients or students and their families. This week, Kate and Amy capitalize on their “forced friendship” with Beverly Montgomery of Lex Communicate to talk about the power of alliances with mental health professionals in addressing the holistic needs of individuals with communication differences and the caregivers who support them. Beverly discusses how mental health needs touch each case we serve and offers actionable suggestions for how Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Interprofessional Practice (IPP) can help us go beyond due diligence and realize better outcomes for those we serve. Tune in to explore which mental health professionals may be unexpected allies and obtain some simple strategies to help you manage these powerful relationships when scopes of practice overlap. Our clients and students are so complex, you may often feel that you “have a flashlight when you need a flood light” to recognize all of the facets that compose client and family needs. Beverly's approach to interdisciplinary practice Illuminates the complexities of your toughest cases. If you find “other stuff” getting in the way of therapeutic progress for your clients or students, this is the episode for you.Learning OutcomesState the purpose(s) and benefit(s) of interprofessional collaborationDefine Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Interprofessional Practice (IPP)Describe a decision-making process for when and how to make mental health referralsIdentify a variety of collaborative partners both within and outside their organizationReferencesAmerican Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
