If I had to give you a list of my favourite bands of all time, it would include at least three in the top ten from Long Island. A place where an abundance of quantity has still resulted in the highest quality, LIHC is the be all end all. John Scanlon, vocalist of Dead Last and long time show promoter from Long Island, joins the show and gives us a quick overview on the progression and influences of the scene. An evolving music scene, we see melodic hardcore turn into heavy riffs and then carve out a new path that is more pop punk influenced. We feature eight important bands in this episode, but it is not exclusive and you can be sure there will be a follow up on the Island. Tracks Played:1. Mind Over Matter - "Too Much"2. Silent Majority - "Amityville Horror"3. Kill Your Idols - "Enjoy The Show"4. Backtrack - "The Roots of Evil"5. Incendiary - "Primitive Rage"6. King Nine - "Free Will"7. Jukai - "Result of Death"8. Stand Still - "There's No Autumn Here"
King Nine is one of the best bands to ever do it. Front man Dan Seely joined the show for a live radio interview on KZAA LP 96.5 FM on 1/19/2023. We talked California, NY Jets, Islanders, Mets and Knicks, the radio, upcoming King Nine music and shows, the infamous Chisel TV, Atlanta hc, LIHC and much more.
We talk PUNCHYOURFACE, Internal Bleeding, Without Remorse, the origin of Karate Moshing, Thug Squad, IDS, Sworn Enemy, Agents of Man, Everybody Gets Hurt, Pain of Truth (again), Amityville Music Hall, Sicks Deep, and more. Next week, I'm having Morty Shootout (NYC Shootout) on the show and we're gonna talk up-and-coming LIHC and Death bands.
STAND STILL is a band coming out of Long Island carrying the torch of the storied LIHC sound in 2022. Front man Gerry Windus hit the radio station phone line for a live interview on KZAA LP 96.5 FM on 2/3/2022. We talked everything Stand Still, Long Island, the history of LIHC, A Practice in Patience EP and much more. The end of this interview features a playlist made by Gerry.
What a delightful dive into the Long Island hardcore scene with (prog-loving) scenester Artie Shepherd. Artie has been part of the LIHC scene since the beginning, playing in Mind Over Matter (and a bunch of other bands), his band Primitive Weapons with past-guest (and co-owner of Saint Vitus, Chris Enriquez). We talked about Artie's musical past, the decision to open a bar and venue, running a live music venue during a pandemic, touring, launching Wreck-Age records, Yes, Rush, and a whole bunch of other shit. Artie has stories for days, and we could probably easily do another 2.5 hours some day...hopefully in person next time. We walk into the Long Island Hardcore Record Store and head straight past all your boring obvious melodic choices to select the rarest and possibly strangest LIHC record of them all. Shrieks, stomps, space-outs and more. Join us as we collect the unique sounds of Scapegrace.
I decided to bring it back to Long Island in the early 90's to talk with former bass player for LIHC band "Disciplinary Action". My guest on Episode 227 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace is Kevin Caputo. We talk about DA, the band that formed after that, "Soul-Sick" and his "Stereo Assassin" project. Not to mention, brawls, a little bit of shit talk and that time he bit a bouncers nipple off. This one isn't for the thin-skinned "woke" type. Strap in and enjoy. Respect.
Become One bassist Mike Musilli formerly in Crime In Stereo, writer for No Echo, LIHC native, joined the show via the phone line for a LIVE radio interview on KZAA LP 96.5 FM. Become One has a new EP coming out Friday 8/6 on New Morality Zine. We talked Become One history, inside look at the new EP and a little more.
Helen Dunlap contrasts policy at HUD in problem-solving and practice in 1993 to today. She feels the layers of complexities have grown exponentially. 25% of HUD's multifamily portfolio when she got to HUD was at risk for forclosure. She was at HUD during the creation of mark-to-market as an innovative solution at the time. She was included in a handful of people who created HUD's Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) which focused on property inspections. She applauds non-profits who exist to provide affordable housing, paying more attention to neighborhoods. She talks about being a voice for poor people as part of the Low-Income Housing Coalition.

Eddie Reyes has been mentioned on various episodes of this podcast and it often seemed that a lot of the bands we discussed had a connection to him in some way. Some highlights include. -Eddie talks about his first shows and introduction to hardcore. -He talks about wanting to beat up George -George and Ed talk about their first band together,MIND OVER MATTER -Ed reminisces about the start of all of his past bands including INSIDE, CLOCKWISE and THE MOVIE LIFE -Starting TAKING BACK SUNDAY -Parting Ways with TBS -Ups and downs of touring -Gaining Sobriety -Starting a New Band -A few tour stories including Bruce Springsteen, Max Weinberg and Slayer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/eddie.reyes.9619 IG https://www.instagram.com/eddiesundaytbs/ Twitter https://twitter.com/EddieBackSunday
