How many times can you get knocked down when you know you are good enough to make it. Meet master barber Lowell Newsome. Lowell grew up as an only child. He lived two different worlds. He was a responsible student with perfect attendance. His high school counselor continued to visit him in prison because he saw promise in Lowell. Lowell was drawn to the street life out of curiosity and acceptance by the older kids who were living on the wrong side of the law. Lowell goes to college and is still drawn to street life. He eventually received a federal conviction for selling drugs. He shares his story how he learned the trade of cutting hair in prison. When Lowell was released he struggled getting licensed as a barber because he was an ex-felon. Lowell discusses how he eventually became a licensed barber. He now is a successful barber with his own business. Nothing has been easy for Lowell but he finally made it doing what he loves to do...being a master barber. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brent-cassity/support
I have the honor to introduce one of my favorite stylists, Aveda Purefessional, Educator, and this week's guest: Sher Smith. In 2010, Sher graduated from the Aveda Institute in Knoxville, TN where she lived and worked until moving to Los Angeles in 2020, now, 3 years later Sher has returned to Tennessee and works halfway between Knoxville and Nashville at my salon, in Cookeville, TN Loxx Salon and Spa.As I've watched Sher start over in a completely new area, and build her clientele entirely from the ground up I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to share a conversation for all my stylists that are building a clientele for the first time, or starting over somewhere new. In this episode: What's your advice for hairstylists that are considering completely starting over somewhere new? So far, what's been the most challenging part of your transition and how have you changed your approach to meet the challenge? How are you leveraging social media to share your work, find new guests and rebuild your personal brand as a hairstylist?Follow Sher on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/sherflair/ Join me at the Aspiring Stylist Podcast group on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/groups/theaspiringstylistAspire Barber and Beauty Academy:http://aspirebarberandbeauty.com/

My guest on the podcast this week is Miles Wood-Smith, the Creative Director (and Master Barber) at London barber brand, Murdock.I've been visiting Murdock barber shops for the last ten years or so, so it was a real thrill to get to chat to Miles and hear more about the brand from his perspective. Murdock built a range of quality barber shops and then introduced a complementary line of hair, skin, shave and fragrance products. The brand have continued to evolve and introduce new services and have expanded into USA, Australia and other territories. In the episode Miles tells me more about his role as Creative Director, whereby he helps develop new products, runs training and acts as a brand ambassador in the international markets.I loved chatting to Miles this week. He has such a warm and friendly energy and is a brilliant advocate for the Murdock brand. If you get the chance to visit any of their London or New York barber shops you should and you'll get great service and a warm welcome (and I'm sure Miles would particularly want you to visit Covent Garden where he works!)
