¿A quién perjudicaba? The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier
Shoot us a Text.Episode #1208: Today we're joined by guest host Todd Caputo and break down why car buyers are finally pushing back on pricing and how BMW and Audi are muscling into the booming off-road segment.Show Notes with links:American car buyers are finally tapping the brakes. After years of paying whatever it took to get into a new car, stretched consumers are hitting affordability ceilings and forcing both dealers and OEMs to rethink what demand really looks like heading into 2025.Shoppers are shifting downmarket—buying used, taking longer loans, delaying purchases, and gravitating toward lower-priced models like the Chevy Trax.Industry projections for 2025–26 have softened as tariffs, inflation, and tighter labor markets cool big-ticket spending.Rising days' supply is prompting deeper discounting while lower-income borrowers fall behind on payments and overall vehicle spending drops YoY.Retailers report weaker new-vehicle margins, though service traffic is climbing as more owners try to stretch aging vehicles.“People are asking, ‘How can I afford this?'” said dealer Robert Peltier. “There are people who are in debt and living paycheck to paycheck.”The all-terrain SUV segment is heating up fast as BMW and Audi prepare to challenge icons like Wrangler, Bronco, G-Wagen, and Defender—tapping into a growing niche that's suddenly not niche at all.The off-road segment is booming: nine core models totaled 371,495 sales through Q3 2025, on pace for a post-pandemic record. Wrangler and Bronco remain the kings.Audi will build its first true off-roader on the upcoming Scout Terra/Traveler platform in South Carolina, offering both full EV and range-extender options.BMW's G74 aims straight at the G-Wagen and Defender, built on the X5 platform in Greer, SC, with U.S. production helping dodge tariff pressure.Analysts say styling—not specs—will make or break these newcomers; anything too close to G-Wagen territory risks immediate backlash.“Adding a true off-road-capable SUV will attract buyers… but whether that investment pays off is the challenge,” said S&P Global Mobility's Sam Fiorani Bernard.Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/
Episode NotesDr Caputo's path from social psychology to applied security, including intelligence analysis and building a behavioural-science team at MITRE.What MITRE is: a not-for-profit operating six federally funded R&D centres that provide independent, public-interest research alongside government. Why early “indicator” hunting on endpoints often chased the last bad case; shifting to experiments and known-bad/created-bad data to learn patterns of behaviour change. The LinkedIn recruiter field experiment: ethically approved creation of recruiter personas, staged outreach in three messages, and follow-up interviews to understand reporting barriers. What user-activity monitoring can and cannot tell you; the role of human judgement and programme design.Insider-risk is not only “malicious users”: designing programmes for negligent, mistaken or outsmarted behaviours as well.Current lines of work include improving employee recognition and reporting of malicious elicitations and exploring whether insider-risk telemetry offers early signals of suicide risk. Why multidisciplinary teams beat solo efforts in insider-risk operations.About our guest:Dr. Deanna D. In this week's episode of the Awake & Winning Podcast, Kaylor hands the mic to legendary rock frontman Keith Caputo (formerly Mina Caputo), who delivers an unfiltered, soul-baring monologue about his de-transitioning journey, gender dysphoria, and reclaiming masculine identity. After nearly 20 years of living as a trans woman, Keith shares why he walked away from hormone therapy, breast implants, and the illusion that transitioning would heal his deep-rooted trauma. He dives into the psychological, spiritual, and physical costs of medical transition, exposing what the mainstream won't say about gender ideology, identity confusion, and pharmaceutical agendas. Best known as the iconic voice of Life of Agony, Keith holds nothing back as he speaks candidly for most of the episode, dropping truth bombs on trauma, gender politics, the music industry, cancel culture, and why real healing starts from within. This episode is raw, controversial, and requires listening for anyone questioning the dominant narrative around gender identity. Episode Highlights: de-transitioning, gender ideology, trauma healing, magic mushrooms, radical authenticity, music industry truth, cancel culture, spiritual awakening, hormonal side effects, cultural programming, psychedelic therapy, reactive attachment disorder Takeaways: Fearlessness and authenticity attract true collaborators The music industry rewards conformity, not raw talent Trauma often underlies gender dysphoria and identity shifts Psychedelics can help heal deep-rooted emotional wounds The medical system is creating lifelong patients, not healing Cultural trends are driven by profit, not truth True empowerment comes from within, not external surgery If this episode lit a fire under you, don't keep it to yourself. Full transcript Watch this interview on YouTube — "You have to blend innovation with empathy, and effectively combine data-driven insights and creative storytelling," says Lisa Caputo, the Chief Marketing, Communication and Customer Experience Officer at Travelers. "To me, that's a magic combination." And there's one more ingredient missing from the recipe, which Lisa has learned over a career spanning broadcast journalism, the White House, and corporate America: The willingness to stay curious and embrace change. Today on Building Better CMOs, she shares insights on transforming customer experience at Travelers, the four-legged stool of "Big M marketing," and the critical role of leadership in driving organizational change. She and MMA Global CEO Greg Stuart also discuss the value of measurement in demonstrating impact, what she learned from working for Bill & Hillary Clinton, and how to foster an environment of empathy. The practice of growing plants in water rather than soil isn't new, though early examples are difficult to substantiate.
