What happens when a software company building AI tools for HR teams uses those same tools to transform itself? Josh McKenzie, Chief Technology Officer at ELMO Software Group, shares how his team rebuilt their entire software development lifecycle around AI agents and redrew the boundaries of every engineering role. He breaks down how to lead that shift without losing people's trust, why domain expertise is the real SaaS moat, and how the right analytics partner unlocks decisions HR teams have never been able to make before. Key Moments: The SaaS Moat: What AI Can't Erode (06:37): Josh argues SaaS value runs deeper than software. Accountability, compliance, and domain expertise keep purpose-built platforms irreplaceable. How ELMO's AI Journey Started (10:23): ELMO started by mapping every role against AI impact. Turning that lens on their own engineering team set the full transformation in motion. Why ELMO Chose ThoughtSpot Over Building Its Own Analytics (18:42): A homegrown tool requiring too much user expertise led ELMO to look elsewhere. ThoughtSpot Spotter and natural language capabilities closed the gap. Why HR Teams Are the Most Underserved (20:21): Payroll here, benchmarking data there, performance data somewhere else. HR teams have been drowning in spreadsheet hell for years. Josh explains how AI finally closes that gap. From Engineer to CTO: Build a Team of Complements (24:17): Josh reflects on the mindset shift that defined his path to the C-suite. Great leadership means building a team whose strengths cover your blind spots. Key Quotes: “ ThoughtSpot was particularly interesting for us… The big thing for us was the Spotter product. Allowing users to bridge that data analyst gap was really important. So, that product has yielded really, really great results for us.” - Josh McKenzie “I think it's really important that we instill a culture where it's okay to fail, and it's okay to make a mistake. You want to be vocal about your mistakes so others don't repeat the same mistake.” - Josh McKenzie “My belief is you want to focus on your secret sauce. So, what is the thing that makes your business super successful? And for us, that's where we came to look at ThoughtSpot. It has a really nice visual user interface and allows you to create some great dashboards.” - Josh McKenzie Mentions Hiring and Onboarding Taking Longer Despite Widespread AI Adoption, New Australian Research Finds The 5 Levels of AI Coding (Why Most of You Won't Make It Past Level 2) WireGuard: Next Generation Kernel Network Tunnel | Jason A. Donenfeld Guest Bio As the Chief Technology Officer, Josh McKenzie is responsible for both technical strategy and delivery (build, release and operation) of the ELMO product suite. Josh has a proven track record of successfully leading technology teams and implementing transformative strategies that enhance efficiency, drive growth, and elevate overall technological capabilities. Josh has 20 years of experience in technology, primarily in FinTech. Before joining ELMO in 2024, Josh held executive and senior positions at Lendi Group, OFX, ASX and Westpac. Careless Spending Can Erode Income Gains Revisited Episode 385 – If your income goes up over time, it doesn't necessarily mean that you’ll be able to save more. If you're not careful, “lifestyle creep” can make things worse. Here are a few ideas on how to fight back against lifestyle creep. More SML Planning Minute Podcast Episodes Transcript of Podcast Episode 385 Hello this is Bill Rainaldi, with another edition of Security Mutual's SML Planning Minute. In today's episode, we take a look back at one of our favorite previous episodes, careless spending can erode income gains. It may be counterintuitive, but sometimes doing better financially can do more harm than good to your savings. This is due to a phenomenon known as lifestyle creep. Lifestyle creep, sometimes referred to as “lifestyle inflation,” occurs when your spending increases as your income rises, turning yesterday's luxuries into today's necessities. Without realizing it, this slow increase in expenses can make it difficult to save money and reach your financial goals. Increases in online shopping, subscription services and food delivery can all be indicators of lifestyle creep.[1] The result is that, in spite of your improved income, you begin saving and investing less and less. What can you do if you see this happening to you? Here are a few ways to resist the impulse spending that comes with lifestyle creep: Use a “buy list.” Resist the impulse to purchase something by instead creating what's called a “buy list.”[2] Put the thing you want to buy on that list. Then, after a designated period of time, say ten days or so, if you still feel like you want it, go ahead and make the purchase.[3] Set up an automatic investment plan. In other words, pay yourself first. You can get money automatically transferred every month from your checking account to a mutual fund or a savings account. Or your employer might also be able to deposit a portion of your paycheck directly into your savings or investment account, or into a cash value life insurance policy. The idea is to save the money before you have a chance to spend it. Realize that there may be emotional reasons for lifestyle creep. Sometimes it's jealousy or personal insecurity that leads us to spend more.[4] If you see this happening, it may be time to think about the things that influence you and how to change them. For example, you may want to spend more time with people who really appreciate you.[5] Also, social media doesn't help. People tend to want to live like others they see online.[6] Perhaps a social media budget or social media vacation can help. If you don't have a budget, maybe it's time to get one. One of the most basic ways to do this is to simply set some limits. Decide how much to spend on discretionary items and find a way to stick to it. Make sure you carefully track your spending. Numerous online budgeting tools can help. Also, be sure to review the plan regularly to see how you're doing and adjust if needed. Become an educated consumer. There may be cheaper options for expensive stuff or experiences. You just have to look around. Perhaps a used item can give you the same satisfaction as a new one. Think carefully if you get a bonus at work. If you get a bonus, it may be a good idea to put it directly towards your savings, so it's already out of sight and out of mind. Audit your spending. If you take a serious look, you may find some extra things that have sneaked into your spending habits. Are they necessities? If not, it may be time to cut back. Every dollar counts! If your income goes up over time, it doesn't necessarily mean that you’ll have more money in your savings or checking accounts. Very often it does, but if you're not careful, lifestyle creep can kill any progress towards your financial goals or even make things worse. The best way to deal with this is up to you, but careful planning and simply thinking through your spending is a good start. This doesn't mean that you're never going to splurge. There's no need to get too worried about small, infrequent, indulgences.[7] Focus on the bigger picture. On today's episode of The Brian Crombie Hour, we explore two deeply human themes: the future of brain health and the emotional foundations of relationships. Dr. Thomas Verny joins the show to discuss Alzheimer's, dementia, aging, and emerging research into brain function, including new approaches to early detection and cognitive health preservation. In the closing commentary, the conversation shifts to relationships — examining how emotional tone, withdrawal, and loss of warmth can gradually erode connection over time, and what people truly need to feel safe, valued, and connected. A thoughtful episode about memory, identity, and the emotional climate we create in our lives.

Episode 293: This week on TechTime Radio, we begin by confronting the unsettling reality that trusting your senses isn't enough anymore, as deepfakes and AI-generated voices make distinguishing real from fake increasingly difficult. Even families and public figures encounter moments when authenticity is in doubt, fostering the 'liar's dividend' in which dismissing everything as fake becomes common. The discussion considers why traditional code words are now a safeguard for families, executives, and teams who need to verify identities when it matters. From there, we broaden our view to the growing data traces left behind in daily life, where reducing posts can help, yet government demands for user data continue to rise. Cybersecurity expert Nick Espinosa explains what this means for privacy, digital footprints, and how platforms subtly influence what they know about you. We conclude with the future of AI monitoring tools like Junior in workplaces. In China, the chaos was real—hundreds of robotaxis froze on the streets, causing a bizarre, self-created traffic jam that showed even ‘smart' cars can fail spectacularly. Tune in to TechTime Radio—where the future is now, the stories matter, and all with a little whiskey on the side.Full Details: You can't just “trust your eyes and ears” anymore and that changes everything. We start with the uncomfortable reality of deepfakes and AI voice cloning: even family members can hesitate when a voice sounds right, and public figures can get labeled “AI” over a simple lighting glitch. That's the liar's dividend in action, where it's easy to claim something is fake and frustratingly hard to prove it's real. We talk through a surprisingly effective defense that feels like a throwback: shared code words for families, executives, and teams when identity actually matters. Then we zoom out to the data exhaust behind modern life. Posting less on social media can be digital self-preservation, but government requests for user data keep climbing across major platforms. Our guest, cybersecurity expert Nick Espinoza, explains why that trend should change how you think about privacy, digital footprints, and what platforms really know about you. From there, we dig into the IRS using AI tooling built with Palantir to identify “high value” cases, and why opaque risk scoring plus third-party data creates real concerns about profiling, audit targeting, and accountability. Finally, we hit the workplace and the weird future of “always-on” monitoring. Tools like Junior act like a virtual colleague that sits in your Slack and Zoom, watches deadlines, and escalates issues to management. Add in reports of AI agents that deceive, bypass safeguards, or game constraints, plus real-world robotaxi failures, and the central question becomes urgent: how do we keep human systems fair when automation is faster than oversight? Subscribe to Tech Time Radio, share this with a friend who worries about AI privacy, and leave us a review with the biggest AI trust issue you want us to tackle next.Support the show

Dr. Ryan McGeough is back! We're unpacking what happens when plans don't go as planned—and how that slowly erodes trust in ourselves, our follow-through, and even other people. Here's what we're covering: Why broken micro-commitments chip away at self-trust The difference between self-confidence (broad) and self-efficacy (skill-specific) Attribution theory: Do you blame yourself or circumstances when goals fail? How the US became a low-trust culture ("stranger danger" anyone?) Hannah Arendt on forgiveness (breaking the past) and promises (building the future) Ryan's morning hack: Headspace before scrolling My Instagram/Facebook sabbatical experiment The trust erosion cycle: You make plans → things don't go as planned → you stop trusting that planning matters → you break commitments to yourself → self-trust crumbles. The key insight: Some people fail at goals and think "bad goal, bad circumstances." Others internalize it: "I'm a piece of crap." Attribution theory explains why—and how to change the pattern. Ryan's trust lesson: That 6am lake running goal? Bad goal. Not because he can't accomplish things—because it didn't fit his reality. Now he knows which goals are longer shots and builds more structure around those. The Valentine's Day truth: Annual goal-setting together builds trust beyond reliability. When your partner actively supports what matters to you, it creates space to take risks and pursue things that excite you—even if they don't match your 10-year-old plans.

How do you lead when your team is waiting, and your silence is doing damage? In this episode of the Don't Waste the Chaos Podcast, Kerri M. Roberts unpacks why indecision is a decision, how stalled leadership quietly erodes trust, and why leadership infrastructure depends on clear boundaries, accountable authority, and timely action. This is for founders, CEOs, COOs, and executive leaders navigating people complexity and organizational transformation who need sharper executive decision support - not more meetings, more consensus-seeking, or more delay. You'll learn what decision avoidance signals to your team, how culture “fills the vacuum” when leaders won't hold the line, and what it looks like to choose decisiveness anchored in integrity, even when the decision isn't fully baked.Key TakeawaysIndecision is not neutral—it's a signal. Your delay communicates “I'm unwilling to use my authority here,” and people adjust their trust accordingly.Trust, authority, and boundaries operate as a triangle. Boundaries require decisions, authority requires clarity, and trust forms when people believe you'll act.Consensus can become a hiding place. When everything requires buy-in from everyone, progress stalls and “patience” becomes the only rewarded behavior.Culture fills the vacuum when leaders won't confront reality. Avoided conflict turns into tolerated poor behavior, optional accountability, and quiet resentment.Decisiveness anchored in integrity matters more than perfection. Send us a textIn part 2 with Alexa Silva, we discuss how love doesn't clock out when the tones drop. We sat down to unpack what really happens when a first responder's world of shift work, hypervigilance, and on-call stress collides with the everyday demands of family life—and why even strong couples can drift into silence, scorekeeping, and resentment without clear structure and care.Across a candid, fast-moving conversation, we dig into how intimacy has to evolve over time, especially when schedules are brutal and sleep is scarce. We talk about the danger of tallying sex and affection, the quiet slide into emotional affairs powered by loneliness and praise, and the small, steady actions that rebuild safety: consistent compliments, micro-moments of touch, and explicit “ask for what you need” scripts. You'll hear practical frameworks for decompression after shifts, deciding whether you want listening or solutions, and using shared calendars to lower friction when overtime or call-outs derail plans. We also get honest about money, overtime, and the resentment loop that forms when one partner feels like both parents while the other chases a bigger paycheck. There's a path out: monthly “state of us” check-ins, clear rules for spending, and tradeoffs made in daylight instead of assumptions made in anger. We cover role clarity—your spouse can be your partner, not your therapist—plus the kind of self-care that actually restores a nervous system hammered by trauma exposure. Whether you're a cop, firefighter, medic, dispatcher, or the person holding down the fort at home, these tools meet the reality of your life.If you're ready to replace mind reading with honest asks and turn resentment into repair, hit play.

Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is blaming the government shutdown for the delay, even though he previously expedited the swearing-in of multiple Republicans who won their special elections before election results were even in. It's more likely, say supporters, that Grijalva is being held up to prevent what she has pledged will be her first act in Congress: adding her name to and thus triggering a vote on California Congressmember Ro Khanna's bill for the public release of files related to the federal investigation of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. “She needs to get sworn in today,” says Khanna, adding that every day Grijalva is not seated in the House “is breaking precedent and depriving people of who they voted for.” Grijalva says, “This is an incredibly scary precedent to set. If you don't agree with the politics of the speaker, then they can keep you out of your duly elected office.” Khanna and Grijalva also discuss the legacy of Grijalva's late father, the longtime Arizona Congressmember Raúl Grijalva; the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration; right-wing attacks on freedom of the press; and more.AP Newsapnews.com/article/house-…Speaker Johnson keeps the House away as he fights to end the government shutdownHouse members' absence during the government shutdown is creating a political dilemma for Republican Speaker Mike Johnson and is testing his leadership.Chicago Tribunechicagotribune.com/2025/10/10/mik…Speaker Mike Johnson keeps the House away as he fights to end ...Mike Johnson is the speaker of a House that is no longer in session.POLITICOpolitico.com/news/2025/10/0…Mike Johnson sticks to no-show shutdown strategy as ... - Politico“There is absolutely no reason for the House to be out of session,” GOP Rep. When executives lose influence, it rarely happens in one dramatic crash—it fades away slowly, almost invisibly. In this episode of Stepping Into The Arena, Karen Gombault reveals the four most common ways senior leaders leak power in the first six months of a new role. These aren't obvious failures; they're subtle habits that silently drain your credibility, clarity, and presence. Learn how to plug these leaks so you can lead with stronger influence, more confidence, and measurable impact from day one.Whether you're navigating a promotion, expanded scope, or a brand-new role, this episode is your wake-up call to take back your power—before it slips away.5 KEY TAKEAWAYS:Old habits don't serve new roles. Operating from your previous identity keeps you stuck in the weeds—and undermines your strategic presence.Saying yes to everything weakens your authority. Over-accommodating others' expectations may feel productive but signals a lack of boundaries.Avoiding discomfort erodes leadership. Postponing hard conversations or difficult decisions chips away at your credibility and decisiveness.Focusing on what you can't control drains energy. Redirect attention to what's in your lane to reclaim influence and protect your well-being.Power leaks aren't fixed with big moves. Small, conscious decisions restore authority—one shift at a time.“Every time you close a leak, you reclaim a piece of your authority. You're going to walk into the room taller, your words are going to carry more weight, and you'll start to feel completely aligned with your job.” — Karen GombaultPlugging power leaks isn't about being perfect. Tt's about becoming aware and choosing differently. Start by identifying one area where your influence is slipping and commit to a single action this week. Over time, those micro-adjustments compound into massive leadership credibility.RESOURCES & NEXT STEPS:

Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
About this Episode Words have power. They can heal, but they can also harm when we wield them without fully understanding their meaning. In today's world, the language of therapy is everywhere, filtering from clinicians' offices into viral social media posts, heated arguments, and everyday conversations. But with this widespread use comes a hidden problem. When words like “narcissist,” “gaslighting,” or “toxic” are misused or weaponized in our relationships, they not only muddy honest communication—they erode trust, block growth, and can even do real damage to our connections with others. In this episode, listeners are invited to take a nuanced look at how “therapy speak” has crept into our relationship vocabulary and why this isn't always a good thing. Through real-world examples and professional insight, you'll learn where the line lies between helpful self-expression and language that shuts down vulnerability, repair, and intimacy. By unpacking the ways therapeutic labels can become conversational weapons, this discussion offers practical guidance to help you communicate more consciously, challenge your own assumptions, and foster deeper, more authentic connection—with yourself and with the people you care about most. Isabelle Morley, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist and an EFT-certified couples therapist (emotionally focused therapy).

Jen Psaki breaks down Donald Trump's unprecedented assault on the judicial branch of government, explaining how the administration's defiant attitude toward the court breaks with that of former presidents who were dealt tough rulings in the past. Representative Jamie Raskin joins to discuss the implications of their defiance, and the danger the administration poses to due process under the law. Next, Jen is joined by the chair of the Progressive Caucus in the House, Representative Greg Casar, who was with Bernie Sanders and AOC on their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. They discuss the massive turnout at these rallies and how hearing from angry voters directly could shake up the party. Jen also reflects on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's handling of the GOP's government funding bill, and the implications for Democrats if they don't find a strategy moving forward. New York Times correspondents Annie Karni and Luke Broadwater later join Jen to talk about their new book “Mad House” and the evolution of Congressional dysfunction, as well their thoughts on what's happening in Democratic leadership. Finally Jen discusses Elon Musk's growing Tesla problem, and the scuttled plan to brief him on U.S. plan in case of war with China.Check out our social pages below:https://twitter.com/InsideWithPsakihttps://www.instagram.com/InsideWithPsaki/https://www.tiktok.com/@insidewithpsakihttps://www.msnbc.com/jen-psakihttps://bsky.app/profile/insidewithpsaki.msnbc.com
