In Episode 343 of For All You Kids Out There, Jeffrey and Jarrett discuss going viral, midlife crises, Max Scherzer's oblique, and the probably good Mets offense. In the second half of the show we discuss the passing of Roger Angell, probably less eloquently then our favorite baseball writers (whose favorite baseball writer was likely Roger Angell). In the third half of the show we answer more correspondence and preview AEW Double or Nothing.

Ambrose Bierce called exhortation, “Putting the conscience of another upon the spit, and roasting it to nutty brown discomfort.” Today's episode calls for a radical Christ centered Daniel company to arise and live as disciples walking in compassion without compromise. We could also call it, finding the mysterious and rare third path. Am I losing my edge? Hardly. Oliver Stone’s 1995 film Nixon, starring Anthony Hopkins as the haunted, duplicitous 37th U.S. president, marked both a turning point in the filmmaker’s career and a significant shift in public opinion about Richard Nixon. Historian and writer Michael Koncewicz, author of They Said No to Nixon: Republicans Who Stood Up to the President’s Abuses of Power , joins us for a detailed discussion of the film’s complex engagement with the actual history of the Nixon administration. As we consider Nixon alongside Stone’s numerous other historical films (many of which ruminate on the 1960s), we explore a filmography marked by a sometimes exhilarating, often frustrating mix of wild aesthetic experimentation, paranoid conspiracy mongering, and conventional liberal sentimentalism.
In a new segment we call The Internet Couldn’t Tell Us, Marleah and James have the opportunity to sit down with Luke Jenner of The Rapture, out on location at Union Hall. It all started with a burning question Marleah had about parallels between The Rapture’s Killing and LCD Soundsystem’s Losing My Edge. What’s the full story there? The Internet Couldn’t Tell Us. But there’s so much more, including a closer look at Luke’s early years in NYC and time with DFA/James Murphy, discussion on memorable shows, family life, growth and recovery, what he’s working on today…and BASEBALL. Lots of baseball (yep, James leads on that part). This interview is chock full of books to read, artists to hear, documentaries to watch, and hope to have. We hope you enjoy it. Back by something akin to popular demand, the co-hosts of upcoming podcast sensation, How Men Really Think, Peter Koller and John Roby keep the hosts of Losing My Edge very much confined to roles as bit players. Immerse yourself.
DJ Felixx has nothing on Peter Koller and John Roby who completely take over this episode of Losing My Edge. In Ep024, Part 2 of the appearance of this famous comedy duo, we guarantee some really funny stuff. However, Part 1 takes a left turn and becomes a meditation on the lives of middle aged … Continue reading EP023 – The Pete & JR Show (JR asks why is he listed second) →

Managing editor Dana Wollman and host Terrence O'Brien are joined by a new face on this week's episode: social media manager Evan Rodgers. They'll talk about Engadget's Adult Week -- a collection of articles about growing up in the digital age. Sure, we all know that what you say on social media can really come back to bite you in the ass (and possibly cost you a job). But, the internet is both an obstacle that needs to be navigated and a powerful tool that can teach you to be an independent and self sufficient adult. Without it Terrence and Evan would have never learned how to properly invoice companies during their freelancing days. And Dana has turned to the web to learn how to cook. They grow up so fast… sniff. This conversation is with Dan Harris, who most of you know as a co-anchor of “Nightline” and the weekend edition of “Good Morning America” on ABC News -- or 20/20 -- or -- from his New York Times best selling book: 10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress without Losing My Edge and Found Self-Help That Actually Works. Dan has faced the public tension, in a panic attack that happened on live television. In This Episode: -Embracing not taking himself too seriously -Finding love in meditation -The humbling nature of sharing insight with others -The difference between pleasure and happiness -His method for showing gratitude -Surrendering to the process of meditation -Learning from his parents via “show, not tell” -Dealing with not being as smart as his parents and brother -Risk taking integrated in his DNA -The moment before and after his panic attack on live TV -Becoming aware of the triggers for his panic attacks -Having a pre-disposition for anxiety -The emotions around not being nominated for an EMMY this year -External vs. internal rewards -Approaching his newest venture with an open mind -Why being honest with yourself is the easiest thing to do -Inside his meditation practice
After having a nationally televised panic attack on Good Morning America, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. After learning about research that suggests meditation can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain, Harris took a deep dive into the underreported world of CEOs, scientists, and even marines who are now using it for increased calm, focus, and happiness. 10% Happier takes readers on a ride from the outer reaches of neuroscience to the inner sanctum of network news to the bizarre fringes of America's spiritual scene, and leaves them with a takeaway that could actually change their lives.
It’s been 20 years, folks, since the epic Fall 1995 tour. Everything changed for Phish in 1995 (as it did again in ’97, ’99, ’04, ’13 and ’15). But this signaled the beginning of a new era—bigger venues, bigger crowds, bigger expectations. And during this tour, Phish did what they do best. They delivered. Our friends Wade and Josh joined us for this equally epic 3-part episode, where we played and discussed some of the highlights from this Fall 1995 tour. In contrast to the Summer 1995 tour, these jams have an incredible level of focus and clarity. But they’re not jams to be taken lightly. They’re dense, heady. As Wade says, listening to Fall 1995 “is not a spectator sport.” Hope you’re geared up. The details for all 3 parts are below. As always, we ask you to follow us on Twitter and review us on iTunes. We are in the midst of a momentous event in the evolution of human consciousness, but they won't be talking about it in the news tonight. - Eckhart Tolle, self-help guru Open up your mind, in pours the trash. - Meat Puppets, "desert punk" band On todays show we were joined by Emmy award winning correspondent for ABC News and co-anchor for Nightline and the weekend edition of Good Morning America, Dan Harris. We discussed his new book 10% Happier. After having a nationally televised panic attack on Good Morning America, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure, involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head, which had both propelled him through the ranks of a hyper-competitive business and also led him to make the profoundly stupid decisions that provoked his on-air freak-out. We all have a voice in our head. It's what has us losing our temper unnecessarily, checking our email compulsively, eating when we're not hungry, and fixating on the past and the future at the expense of the present. Most of us would assume we're stuck with this voice – that there's nothing we can do to rein it in – but Harris stumbled upon an effective way to do just that. It's a far cry from the miracle cures peddled by the self-help swamis he met; instead, it's something he always assumed to be either impossible or useless: meditation. After learning about research that suggests meditation can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain, Harris took a deep dive into the underreported world of CEOs, scientists, and even marines who are now using it for increased calm, focus, and happiness. To read more about his book click here: 10% Happier To learn more about Dan Harris you can follow him on twitter at: @danbharris You can listen live by going to www.kpft.org and clicking on the HD3 tab.
